1 Star Review (if I could leave zero, I would): I took my daughter's MacBook Pro here for a repair. It needed a battery replacement and we had a very negative experience. I was led to believe the replacement part would be OEM, but later learned the parts come through Amazon, not Apple. After the repair, the trackpad no longer worked, even though it worked before. When I asked about it, I didn't receive a clear explanation or solution. Just B.S. and blaming it on us. In my opinion, this business is not equipped to handle Apple repairs, and I would not recommend bringing a MacBook or anything Apple here. We ended up making an appointment to take the computer to Apple directly to resolve the issue, which we wish we had done in the first place. The issue was getting an appointment for repair before I left town. Which is the case now, but it's handled. In law enforcement we have a saying for people like this; "If their lips are moving, they're lying." read more

Competitors were booked out 2-4 days. Sparky told me to bring the computer in and he would look at it. Brought it in, he ordered the necessary part and I had it back the next day! Reasonably priced, as well. He charged me the flat rate that he quoted. I will definitely use him the next time I have computer problems. read more

I thought Sparky was really helpful and genuine. We will see long-term if the devices we purchased are the good value, but the price was more than fair and he is as congenial as possible. Far more than most tech guys. He is also willing to fix things rather than force you to buy an upgrade. In the end we got a new tower he built. My teen son loves it. He uses it for gaming. We also got a refurbished MacBook Pro that has upgraded RAM and SSD. So far, so good! We plan to go back and get some newer items after the kids save up a little more. The only bummer is that his location is upstairs and he has stinky smoke shop neighbors on the first floor. But that has nothing to do with his service, nor products. read more

I took my laptop in for a battery replacement because it wasn't charging. He claimed it was fixed the same day, but when I got it home, the issue persisted. Instead of taking responsibility, he blamed others--citing a missing critical clip from the original repair--and, after three long months, claimed a new motherboard was needed. I immediately halted further repairs and disputed the charges. He then tried to keep my laptop and even told lies to the police, claiming I'd abandoned it. L and he sold it. I had to take him to small claims court, where the judge ordered my laptop returned (because it magically reappeared) and I had to pay a $50 diagnostic fee). When I picked up my laptop, his true colors were evident as he acted as if he'd won, boasting about that fee following me out of his business bragging and yelling God is....good justice was served flashing the $50 dollars. His immaturity is clear as day. Watch the video for proof. In the end, the court's decision confirmed what should have happened from the start. I believe that truth and accountability always win, and I pray that he finds the strength to grow into a person of genuine integrity. STAY AWAY BECAUSE HE WILL ROB YOU AMD NIT FIX YOUR ISSUE. I used to work for this person and I can tell you that he cares more for money than he does for quality. Never paying me a fair wage and offering me coupons for overtime vs. hourly pay. I've seen a number of his cover ups for mistakes he's made, often asking me to lie for him. This is no story of recovery but rather a mistake that has been allowed to propagate. He may do some good but his "I only pay myself $500 per week" shit falls short. Claim NA all you want you POS. I still remember you. And I know where you live-and everyone else will too. read more

In addition, he supports our charitable efforts providing or repairing computers for those in need, as well as playing 'Santa', delivering our Christmas Trees of Hope. All in all, I find Dave to be honest, capable and a great computer tech in both the Mac and PC worlds. Understanding the 'realities' of computers and networks; their inner and outer impacts or relationships is not easy. Not every computer problem CAN be fixed..... but for those that can.. I gotta tell you that I am shocked having gone in to give a rave review to find that there are several people that have had a poor experience with Sparky. I found that he offered great service at a fair price. I had shopped around at other shops and found that he was quite affordable as compared to others. After dropping off the desktop I received a text shortly after detailing what it was that was going to be done and then received another text the following day that the service had been completed. Don't know that you can ask for better communication. When I picked the computer up I found him to be genuine and friendly. He spoke about some other things that I could do to the computer to help keep it healthy and working fast. I would with out reservation recommend his shop for computer repairs. read more

I was very disappointed in the service I received. He's a nice guy, but all I wanted was a way to archive my emails so I would have more room. He told me that I could download a copy of his MS Office for $50 and not have to worry about MS Office subscription or about space on their servers. I said yes, but after 2 hours of trying to get it to work, with him googling the answer for numerous steps, he still could not get it to work. He said, it must be the computer (It's 1 month old - Brand new). I took it to a Dell certified dealer and they stated that it was fine, not problems. At the end, what he stated would be $50, was $100. I would have gladly paid the $100 for his time if he knew what to do and fixed it, but he did not. In my business, if I say I can do something and don't perform, I don't charge. If I start by saying I'll try but I'm not sure what I'm doing, then I'll charge half. If you go here, get an agreement up front. No fix, no $$. Consulting would be up to you. read more

LIAR & THIEF!! TAKES MONEY FROM CHILDREN AND SCREWS THEM OVER WITHOUT BATTING AN EYE! My 11 year old son took his laptop in due to a hot loud fan and shutting down after 30-40 minutes. A laptop that Sparky worked on a couple years prior, which sat for 2 yrs barely used due to Sparky telling me it needed a new fan and kept shutting down. My son gets laptop back after paying $230 that took him 3 yrs to save up and the fan is STILL loud and STILL shuts down! Husband took son back 4 times!! Each time being told it's fixed. Sparky always has some new excuse or reason as to why it's not working properly and then even blamed my son! I finally took my son in myself to speak w/Sparky and he proceeded to say my son must be doing something to it or changing the settings. My son told him he doesn't even know how to do that! All he does is log into his Roblox game online and try to play but the computer get loud and shuts down after 30 minutes of playing. I explained to Sparky it's still doing the same thing we brought it in for but he got angry and proceeded to throw me out of his store, yelling at me in front of my son (yes I yelled back) then he hands the laptop to my son, who's now crying, telling him to come back with his dad that he refuses to speak to me. I told him he should give my son his money back! IN FRONT OF MY SON he agreed and said he'd give my son his money back but he was taking the new battery and fan out that he supposedly installed. We said Great!! I get home and he's on the phone with my husband who he tells he's NOT giving my son his money back! Now saying IF he gives anything back it'll only be maybe $100 because he still has to charge for his labor! Can you believe this?! He's a CROOK!! NO Shame in taking money from a child! I bring my new Lenovo desktop to him with some wifi connection issue, the second day when I come back for it, the computer cannot even get started, I have a lot important file on it. I don't even know what he has done to it. What's worse he said it's my fault to upgrade it to win 10. It's a new desktop for god sake!!!!!!!!What's worse, when I say I want my computer back, he tear the contract up in front of me. I have to say this guy have no good knowledge of computer reparing, everybody can change part for you, but when you run a reparing store, u need to know how to fix other stuff. Wasted $25 on diagnostic fee to get my developmentally disabled sister's PC fixed after ransomware was put on it by a hacker. I could have fixed the PC myself if I had come to Mesa from the East Coast with my own PC, cd roms and/ or USBs. So I'm not a newbie when it comes to PCs. Sparky tried to pull the wool over my eyes and, when I caught him at it, he backpedaled saying, "No, forget I said that. What we did was this...". Then when I caught him in a lie there, he backpedaled again. I decided the only thing he might be capable of doing is formatting the HDD and re-installing Windows. When I asked him to do that, he quoted me a price that did not take into account the diagnostic fee I had already paid - this is contrary to what he had told me the previous day. Classic bait and switch. He claimed to have done a number of bios and OS changes to the PC but, when I told him I was done with him and coming to pick up the PC in just a few minutes, he assured me the PC was just I had left it - software and all. So glad I did not have him touch it any further. I brought it to ABC Computers Plus, just down the road in Tempe. Their attitude, professionalism, and skills were exactly the opposite of Sparky's. Look, if you don't know much about PCs, you can take it to Sparky and you'll never know the difference whether he hoodwinked you or not. So go for it. But if you do know a bit about PCs, save yourself some aggravation and time and take it elsewhere. read more

thieves!!!thieves!!!!thieves!!!!!! i brought in 1 damaged xbox 360 and 1 perfectly working xbox 360. i got back my damaged xbox 360 with a swapped out drive, they stole my working drive and put it in someone elses console and put a broken one in mine!!!! they took apart my working xbox 360 and more than 2 weeks later, no call or update and i gave them 24 hour notice i was going to pickup, showed up to find my xbox 360 in literal pieces!!! not one thing was put together, the only thing that they have back to me from the console that went with the console was the case with the serial number!!!!!!! for the love of god avoid these thieves!!!!!! if i could give these people anything less than a star it would be some handcuffs!!!!!! read more

This is my one stop shop for all my computer needs. Any time I have an issue I call and see what he recommends, he walks me thru the process slowly and checks to make sure I have it figured out. I have had every problem on 2 laptops... I ended up buying a refurbished 1 and have used it with out a problem for 3 years. My husbands was running very slow and not opening some programs. Sparky explained to me that he would have to replace the hard drive for optimum results, and that all of my files would be stored on the new hard drive in a specific folder. He walked me thru the whole set up when he was finished. I live about 50 miles away from the shop but his low prices and time spent with me Is totally worth the drive~! I am so excited I just purchased a slim and a refurbished laptop with all the bells and whistles for Christmas gifts! So much better then the hi prices and jerks at best buy~! read more

He said the battery was completelly dead on my tablet and that was one of the reasons it wouldn't turn on. After receiving a second opinion turns out the battery was fine. Sparky fixed my 3 year old dell and did an amazing job! My 4 year old managed to download an FBI virus which locked me out of my computer. Sparky had the laptop for a little over a day and had everything in perfect working order. I am so pleased with the work done by Sparky - Recovering Computers. I had issues with poor TV picture quality when I contacted COX support they told me it was my PC. That the PC on the wireless network had viruses, which made sense so I allowed a Cox technician from India access to my lap top. I couldn't understand what the technician was saying to me and when he told me I needed to pay $399.00 which they would discount today for me today .... I hung up. That left my computer locked in safe mode with all the services turned off and dead in the water. I called Best Buy and they would do a free 15 minute assessment but it would cost $199.00 to become a member of their technical service support team before work could start. I thought $199.00 was too high. For years I had driven past the Recovering PC Banner on Country Club and decided to take a chance. Recovering Computers said for $25.00 they would look at my PC and if they couldn't fix it they would apply that $25.00 to the total cost of repairs. $125.00 later I have my lap top back with free virus scanning from Microsoft (another thing Best Buy neglected to mention when I purchased the laptop). McAfee was removed and the performance is terrific. I feel like I have a trusted partner that I can turn to in the future if I need assistance. Karen P. read more

Wow I really should have read the reviews first before coming here but a friend recommended it and I trust her. I came in because my screen was blinking repeatedly and the power would turn off. Sparky looked at it and then fixed some settings stating thats why it was turning off. I asked when it would be repaired and he gave me an estimate of a week. I had to follow up - answer, we really busy at the shop. So I waited another week. Still not ready. The third week I called again and then I was finally told it couldn't be fix it because the power would not come on (guess it wasn't as simple as those settings eh?). Sparky also said said some of the screws were missing. At the time I explained I was injured (currently need a walker) and couldn't retrieve the computer right away. However, I did try to call several times when I was available and the phone said voicemail full and one day the shop was closed early. So 6 weeks later I get my laptop back and it's in pieces. The main bottom component isn't screwed back in, the cd/dvd housing unit isn't screwed in and there is some blue rubber piece that I have no idea where it goes. I guess this is what happens when you don't want their extra services of downloading your hard drive or buying a second hand lap top from them. Do not waste your time. read more

Worst experience of my life! I took my computer in to Sparky's and told them that it was running slow, could they make it run faster. Sparky's took everything off my computer and moved everything to one file on a backup hard drive without asking me or telling me. They uninstalled all my programs, including Outlook and Quickbooks. This was a huge nightmare since I run my business on Quickbooks. When I called to asked how to reinstall or get the info back to my computer they were rude and wouldn't help me. I was astounded by their attitude since they gave me back a computer that I couldn't use. It has taken me months to try and get my computer back to where it was before I took it in to Sparky's. read more

While I would like to Give Dave Harrington, Owner of RCBS a couple of stars, I'm afraid I cannot. I've know Dave for a little over a year and he has a nasty habit of being petty, disrespectful and unkind when he does not get what he wants. My experience with Dave Harrington is that everything I have read in the 1 star reviews is true, and that Dave in fact is the one guilty of the disrespectful behaviors he repeatedly accuses others of. Dave's reputation within the recovery community is that unless you have a simple software installation Dave can't handle it. I just built a new system and was having a difficult time installing windows OS, so I took it to Dave the self proclaimed Windows Pro. After three days I had to leave on a business trip. Dave stated he would call when he had an update. I left Dave alone for the entire week, only contacting him the night before I returned. Two days later I walked into RCBS with the tablet I bought for the business trip which had died on the third day eating all my research, to drop it off to be repaired. Dave's greeting was the usual rude "why are you here, I'm really busy, I said it would be ready tomorrow." I informed Dave that I was dropping off the tablet and attempted to leave three times while Dave kept showing me things or having me show him how to select the optional bio's for the motherboard or the CMOS reset button on the IOS panel, while he had taken most of my tower apart to pull the CMOS battery to reset the Bio's. All the while he stated three or four times that it would be ready tomorrow, he was busy and wants me to leave. Dave complained that he should charge me all the time it took the Windows Pro to figure out that he needed to install windows 10 on the hard drive, and that somehow it was my fault. Dave installed the version of 10 he wanted without asking me. Now Dave's idea of being "really" busy is building secondhand laptops, while he incessantly huffs form his massive vapor tank and consuming ridiculous amounts of energy drinks, becoming agitated and aggressive. Later that night I texted Dave asking him what time tomorrow he wanted me to pick up the computer, knowing he would be "busy" and I did not want to suffer showing up unannounced. This was Dave's response, after telling me some four times it would be ready tomorrow. "I will call you when its done, ok? Do you understand that I will call you real soon, ok, so please let met call you when its done, no more questions. You will be the first to know when its done,ok?" This is the nicest he's been. It has become painfully obvious that Dave makes poor scheduling decisions, then when he corners himself comes out rude disrespectful and unkind, blaming the customers for asking him questions. Sparky claims he studied a B.S. in Business Management, yet cannot figure out that he's in the question answering business, LOFL. Hello Dave, try ignoring them. I was told it was ready one full day later. When I arrived to pick it up Dave was gone, his helper showed me where it was with a bill three times what Dave had quoted. Now this is where I've heard repeated complaints, at least 8 different people, that Dave Harrington does not call and explain that it will cost more or seek approval for parts or additional time. Moreover after an entire week goes by with no promised update from Dave, the customer calls to receive an ear full of how you're bothering him, in my case Dave states "It took me 4 fours to figure it out." He needed an entire week for those 4 hours, boy that really rough. Here is the shitty part. After returning home with my computer, hooking it up, I turned it on, and spent the next 3 hours fixing everything he screwed up pulling the CMOS battery, while the reset button was ear marked in the instillation manual I provided Dave. I had to reinstall the Quad channel ram; he put in the wrong slots, fix the bio's setup, and install the drivers for the graphic cards. All the while, the computer STUNK of perfumed nicotine for hours; I hope you're not sensitive to it like I am, Asthma!! Here is the most important part of this review, while in the program registry logs; the computer shows that Dave did ABSOLUTELY nothing to the computer after that rude response. Apparently Dave sat on the finished computer out of spite. As payment I had earlier traded Dave an entire gaming computer valued at over 500.00, as referenced on ebay, for 250.00 in the attempt to do a brother a solid, and yet Dave tried to say that was for the tablet I bought. Dave is selling these for 150.00, which on Ebay are valued at $80.00 Dave Harrington will show absolutely no respect for you or your property. Windows was finally installed and Dave made a smokin deal, literally. Next you will see a 5 star review from one of Dave's buddies attempting manipulate his approval rating. read more

We went to this business and asked them to do a back up of our computer as well as cleaning up in general & install Microsoft version 7. They did everything except the most important--backing up our files. We lost 12 years of data, including pictures of deceased relatives, business records, history of a pending lawsuit just to name a few of the important files we no longer have. Repeated attempts to them left us with nothing, no files just the word "sorry" and "our contract states we are not responsible for lost data". We look at this as a breach of contract as our paperwork clearly stated they were to do a back up of files. We would never use their services and urge anyone else considering them to look elsewhere. Even calls from the BBB weren't returned. They are very irresponsible & unprofessional. read more

I went to this place to get my laptop repaired. The technician said that the video cable needed cleaning and reinstalling. The fee quoted was $50.00. I was told that I would be informed once the laptop was done. I had to call to see if it was ready because I received no phone calls from them. I was told that it was ready to pick up. When I arrived, the computer did the same "blinking" that was doing before. The guy said that it was the settings and that he would correct it. I took the computer home after paying with my credit card. I got home and the screen went off again. I took it back and I was told that I needed to replace the whole screen! I asked for the price and asked if he would give me a credit for the repair. He quoted the price, but I was told that there would be no credit. I told him that it was unfair and he told me that he didn't warranty the repair and that if I wanted to move forward, I needed to order the screen. I tried to argue about the money that he charged me just the prior night and he told me to get the &:&@#" out. That his shop was private property and that he had recorded the whole conversation about the warranty the prior night. I asked him to show me WHERE in the conversation he said his repairs had no warranty and he told me to get out and came around the counter to get me out. I called the police about the matter and I was told that this was a civil issue on a transaction. That I needed to take him to court if I wanted to get my money back. This was my experience in this shop. I went to Best Buy and they performed the same repair of the cable again. It worked just fine after I got my Toshiba back. I would not recommend not go back again to this shop. read more
