In gm dealership in grants pass Oregon stripped the holy heck out of the fill plug on my pickups transfer case I didn't know till I tried to change the fluid and obviously could not.. I called local dealerships here in Modesto differential shops. I drove by the rear end shop coming home from from yet another dealership saying they couldn't do it keeping my truck for two days and charging me 115 dollars. Anyways I called rear end shop the owner was super cool fit me in the next and was finished with it within hours. I would recommend that place to anyone with a four wheel drive that needs work and tired of getting the run around. Didn't charge charge me very much. The only negative thing I would say is that I was overcharged by about 10 bucks a quart for the amsoil after I bought separately no big deal. Went to this shop with a problem on my 2005 Dodge Ram's rear end. I did service at a particular Jiffy Lube in Turlock 5,000 miles ago and they under filled my rear differential. So story short my rear end heated up and destroyed my clutch for the posy. This shop was very cool and Willy the owner got me in right away and fixed the problem. I decided to upgrade from the OEM rear and upgrade to an Eaton Truetrac and they had it installed in one full day. I went to pick it up the next day by 4 pm and they even fine tuned the linkage for my transfer case which I also bought. I will definitely be coming back here. One Friday on the way into town the U-Joint on the drive shaft snapped like a Pringle™ The timing of all this happening wasn't going to put me at the shop in business hours. But, these guys stayed late (ON A FRIDAY) Helped me unload the truck and got me squared away with a smile. I had an appointment scheduled 2 weeks out to bring my vehicle in. When I arrived, I came early in the morning so the mechanics would have all day to work on it. I had specified that I had my appointment day and the following day off, but I needed it by the end of the second day for work. I was reassured that the vehicle would be finished before that time. The day I was supposed to get the vehicle (2nd day), I received no phone or anything. I called the next morning (mind you I had to use a sick day because my vehicle wasn't ready) and asked was my vehicle ready and why didn't I receive a phone call? They segwayed their way into telling me that they had to order the part and it would be there shortly after noon of that day. So, they never answsered my question. They close at 5 pm, and I was still not receiving a call to let me know if the vehicle had been completed or not. I showed up to the place at 4:45 pm. and the mechanic just grabs my invoice and tells me how much the total was. He didn't go over any specifics, warranty or anything. I could go on for days, but I DON'T RECOMMEND this place to anyone. They are far from courteous and in my observation, they are very UNPROFESSIONAL!!! Lastly, if your vehicle is or isn't finished and it stays overnight, there are no garages to protect your vehicle, nor are there any fences to safeguard your property. Took my jeep in with new in box install in and ring and pinion. Paid 850 for labor. Picked up jeep drove it and rear end screaming. Took back was told by short tweaker girl the install kit I brought was cheap and I need buy their bearings and redo it. Ok so paid 750 this time picked it up was screaming bout half as bad. Went back she said oh the ring and pinion has a bad wear from bad bearings nothing we can do. Can't even talk to the woman she so spun out bouncing off the walls. I wasn't aware of Yelp when I had my awful experience with the "Rear End" shop. But that is one of the cool things about Yelp... Justice I paid them to put a new rear end in my classic 442... Not only was the price outrageous but the rear end broke on my drive home from the shop and I had to be towed back to the shop. They made every excuse in the book and NEVER got the rear end working properly. I wouldn't trust them at all. Good luck to you if you take a chance on them. read more

The rear end shop replaced one my wheel bearings and didn't notice the axle had been damaged by the bad bearing. The old bearing had gotten so bad it spun on the original axle and damaged the factory axle beyond reliability. The bad bearing to be replaced had spun its inner race against the axle and cut a gouge in the original axle. The new bearing they installed therefore could not grip the the axle properly because the pressed on tolerance between the new bearing race and the damaged axle was too loose. The new bearing they installed spun on the old damaged axle immediately when drove it home. Not enough combined experience at that shop to spot out the ordinary part conditions . Not enough attention to details. Wasted $600 plus dollars there on bogus repair. Not responsive to resolve their error. Had a more experienced shop in modesto fix properly. The better shop found me an great condition junk yard used axle located in Tennessee, and repaired property. read more

well it was time to upgrade on my gears. Running on 410 and it has been a struggle going up hills to Tahoe or any uphill freeways. With more body armor and bigger tires it was time to upgrade. Being in a jeep group and seeing what will work best for my set up I decided to go with 488. They had my jeep for a few days and since I work in the Bay Area one of the guys was willing to meet me on Saturday morning so I can pick up my rig ( big plus ++) since they are only open M-F. So going from 410 to 488 gears I notice a big power difference however the bad news is I was given instruction form on what not to do and the correct way to break in your gears so you can avoid problems. Make sure you do this guys as other shops will also recommend this or will have something similar for break in period. After my 500 mile break in period I had no problem taking it in for a gear oil change. I also notice a small minor leak during my break in period and pointed this out which all was taken care of. They don't rush to get your car in and out so the job is done right. I'm very happy of the work done, communication and the friendly hard working staff. read more

No longer a good place to go. I took my Jeep there a few years ago for some differential repairs and they did great work. I went back recently for some upgrades; spent a lot of money and got REALLY shotty work. ABS cables were spliced with wire nuts, junkyard brackets that did NOT suit my application were installed...to make a long story short, before I even got the vehicle home, I had already made an appointment with my regular mechanic. Had this shop recently do a re-gear on my JK wrangler. They turned this around in a little over a day which I thought was fast. Megan and the guys in the shop (Jason and Willie) really know their stuff. A short period after the install I noticed a wheel seal leaking. Called them and they said "bring it in and we'll take care of it". Couple hrs and that was taken care of. After changing my break in oil I noticed some rather large chunks of metal on magnetic drain plug. Sent some pics into them and they immediately tell me to bring in so they can inspect. Inspection proved it may have been missed when they cleaned out pumpkin during re-gear as everything looked good... bottom line these guys are honest, thorough and will make things right. I am so pleased the with work they did on my "95 Dodge Ram 3500. My truck had been having some kind of problem for several months which got so bad that when I backed up slowly it felt like all 4 tires were flat. I had taken the truck to several other places and no one was able to identify the problem. The mechanic at The Rear End Shop drove it for just a few minutes and knew there was something seriously wrong. When he took it apart, he was surprised to see a lot less wrong than what it had seemed like. He replaced only the parts that needed to be replaced and the bill was much less than I had expected. Went in to have a car looked at that needed the fluid on the differential changed. They told me they needed to take it for a test drive to see if they can hear any damage that could have been done. Well I stopped here first before i went to get a new set of tires because the ones on we're very worn and had flat spots. So when you drive it and sounded like you had a flat. I told them that before they took the car out. They came back and insisted that I didn't know what I was talking about and the noise being heard was broken gears and that it would cost me $650. Lol went to my usual mechanic in oakdale and had him look at it. Fine just could just the fluid changed like I thought. Long story short, don't go here. Plus, the lady I talked to while I was there ran circles around my questions and would not actually answer them. I am not a trained mechanic but I have taken classes and worked on my and others cars.
