Oakdale-This is a tiny auto shop packed with lots of mechanics and lots of cars! It was recommended by American Smog, to get my ripped hose fixed here, so I could get my smog certificate. I called and spoke to John. He ordered my part immediately, and my car was done the next morning. Talk about service!!! Reasonably priced and guess what??? John took my car over to American Smog and took care of the certificate for me. That is customer service that you just absolutely do not find anywhere anymore. Since I wanted to get my DMV tags quickly, I headed straight back over to American Smog, paid my fees and got my tags right away. A couple of days later, my check engine light came on (this had nothing to do with the first fix) and I called John immediately. He said bring it back in and let's see what the problem is. He figured it out right away and I'm taking it back in this morning. It was a simple fix, and I will be back on the road in no time. John was an absolute delight, and I appreciate his honesty and his integrity. I have already told four people about how awesome these guys are at Performance Brake and Muffler. So, my headlight was out and it was before 8 a.m. on a foggy day and I had to get it fixed and back to work. The few places I checked with in town would not help me as they said they were too booked up for the day. I called Performance Brake as they were open early enough and asked if he could just look at my light. Without hesitation he said "Come on in and I will take a look at it." I knew he had other clients but he took the time to at least look at my headlight to tell me what I needed. Sure enough, needed a new headlight. Went to Napa behind his business and bought it and the gentlemen kindly put the light in for me with no charge. He not only took the time to at least look at it first thing in the morning but he also fixed it! I got to work with my headlights working fine, thanks to him. if i could rate this place a 0 star i would the older caucasian man had a HORRIBLE attitude i was very respectful to him and he just couldn't match my energy. i told him what i notice that wasn't working on my car (a.c) he called me later that day after i dropped my car off that it was ready i got my car and the problem wasn't fixed. my car felt more hot. i called him and i said my car is still having the same issue he then tells me well there's a leak. I PAID YOU $116 to do what? i could've paid him more but he seemed like he didn't want to work on my car. so he works on my car again that day and calls me 30 mins later to tell me he recharged my a.c and i asked him is every side cold he said "you didn't mention that before" AS A MECHANIC ARENT YOU SUPPOSE TO CHECK? i will never go back and will be telling people i know to not go this place. thank you for giving my money back but you shouldn't be running a business like this. plain and simple. read more

First off I'd like to start with how unimpressed I am at the complete lack of respect I have gotten from this shop after having issues with my vehicle after leaving their care. When a customer pays to have work done and theirs a issue, they should be reprimanded & blamed for accusing them of not doing the work when that's not what I had implied at all. I was respectful in letting them know that I was having the same issues as before while providing information that I thought might help solve the issue. But from the get go I was skeptical due to the simple fact I was being rudely accused of insinuating work wasn't done. Which to me throws a red flag because a shop that knows they did the proper work and procedures to get the job done doesn't need to argue about anything and would more than willingly help to figure out the issue and help me get on my way. Took my Truck their to have the lifters replaced and the DOD/ AFM deleted out of the system which includes replacing the cam shaft, plugging the oil ports, replacing all lifters including mechanical & non-mechanical lifters since it would be a good time to do them all and lastly re-programming the ECU so that the active fuel management/ DOD is 100% deleted out of the truck for no further issues. Well long story short it took over a month for them to get the truck in & worked on. I was surprised with random other issues concerning my fuel tank, then not even a week after getting the truck back I get the check engine light back on and it was throwing the same misfire codes which Chevy confirmed to be the lifter issue. They had me re-tow the truck back to the shop & upon waiting another week told me the truck was ready for pickup. I picked the truck up and my impression upon pickup was that something had still not been totally right. Well within a month/ less than 1,600 miles around town the truck through the same exact misfire codes as it did initially upon bringing it to Johnny. Calling them to make them aware I was quickly blown off & rudely spoken to as if I were wrong for making them aware or being concerned if any work had been done at all. They had been very defensive and completely uncooperative with any assistance on getting the truck towed back their for a 3rd time. At the time I had a extra vehicle so it wasn't super high on my priority list to get dicked around more by a shop I paid over $3,000 to do what seemed to be nothing. I mistakenly allowed a couple months to pass before gathering up the time and energy to pull the intake/ valve train assembly off myself.. I wasn't shocked by what I had found. Gummed up parts such as the valves & old push rods which claimed to have been replaced on the work order. Untouched bolts on the entire right side of the V8 block as if they didn't even bother opening up the valve cover muchless replace the heads & everything they had claimed to have replaced. When I called the shop to question what the deal was and who had worked on the truck his son was quick to brush off my questions with blanket statements that "if it's on the work order and we charged you, we did it" along with "bring it back down and we can take a look at it.." I took photos/ videos of what I had pulled apart along with had another friend to help who was a previous automative repair shop owner just to verify my presumptions and findings were correct. After having the truck towed their for the 3rd time it has sat their for over a month.. Honestly i don't care what happened in the past with what did or didn't get done. All I care about is what is happening now. The truck is still under their 3,000 mile guaranteed work order, sounding worse than ever before with the lifter ticking/ motor wigging out due to codes/ misfires and yet it's sitting their not being worked on obviously because who wants to work on something someone already paid you to do the work on when you didn't do it? Called this morning and disappointingly enough yet not surprised, truck still sitting and no promises that will change even in the next week. More than likely will have it towed to another shop & report them to the B.A.R - Bureau of Automotive Repair. read more

They claimed they ordered a part for my truck early in the week and it would be in by noon on Friday 11/8. I had made arrangements to be picked up by a co worker first thing am before they opened. I left my contact info with the keys. I showed at 2:30pm as scheduled and they claimed the part didn't show up. They didn't bother calling to inform me. I came back at 4pm..at which time they then claimed it was a speciality part...? They wasted my time and my co-workers time and gas! Very unprofessional. STAY AWAY FROM PERFORMANCE MUFFLER in Oakdale. This is my first EVER Review on Yelp but I'm doing this so these guys don't do to others what they did to us. If I could give a ZERO or lower I would! Be very careful going here, This place will sell USED parts as NEW!!!. My Wifes clutch went out on her car in January 2016. We took the vehicle in to have the clutch looked at and get a quote. Instead they did the work without giving us a written quote to sign saying we agree to the work they would do. Needless to say when we got the car back the clutch still was not working right and the Clutch master cylinder (CMC) WAS NOT NEW!! Yet when I confronted them they had the audacity to say they stood behind their work and that they ordered a new CMC and the bolt pattern didn't match so they rebuilt my CMC with the parts from the new CMC but changed me for a new one and didn't tell me that it was effectively a rebuild CMC. Why not send it back and get the right part??? They also changed (and threw away) an OEM piece on the air intake between the air filter and the manifold with a part they made themselves and charged us for and we didn't know that this part was not a state approved smoggable part or we wouldn't have payed them for the work! well now it won't smog, and 6 months later we still are having a hard time trying to get this fixed to get it smogged. Well this last weekend 7/29/2016 (6 months from original repair) the clutch is out again. This is not a car we drive everywhere, and don't dare to drive it much anyway because we don't have tags! When I called them to say the vehicle wouldn't smog they wouldn't fix it and just said they threw my original part away, what they did do was say we should have told them that it needed to be smogged and they would have told us where to go so it would pass. First off most if not all cars in California get smogged every two years, so they tried to sell me something they knew they could "hide" from us until it needed to be smogged. Second, they threw our parts away before we could tell them we wanted they to put our original parts back on. Third, what if I wanted to sell my car, now I have tell the new buyer that they can only get the car smogged at this place because our mechanic modified the car in an illegal manner?? are you kidding me who in their right mind would ever buy a vehicle with those conditions attached. Ask yourself do you really want to trust a place that tells you "you should have told us it needed to be smogged and we would tell you where to go..."? BS these guys are looking for any way to get money out of your pocket, legally or illegally. read more

Wish there was a minus 100% No points or stars for them This place is a shady...we took our truck in to get fixed..was told no problem it's just glow plugs..give it a couple days and it would be ready..weeks went by called over and over they said they were buy hadn't got to it. Finally after call after call ..they had a answer they said motor blown up it would cost way to much to replace it not worth it.so we sold our truck to them. Today get a call from a friend they were buying our old truck for 7000.00 he bought the truck from us for 3500.00 wouldn't go higher sue to the time to replace motor and looking for a new one. Our friend said the only thing wrong with it was the glow plugs ..the rest of the truck is great. Wrong!!.we replaced the glow plugs already and new starter but still wouldn't start. We were told not a problem easy fix..we got screwed. .and now all they did was replace glow plugs flush the system and it runs great. For a small town words travel fast. I am filing a BBB complaint and what ever else I can..we were lied to cheated fir our money, false info giving to us,false claims to what was wrong,falsely gave wrong info,and created us out of our family hunting truck with many memories we have with it. This was my first visit to Performance and I couldn't be happier with the service. I purchased a set of headers on line and took them there to be installed. When they opened the box to install the headers they found that one of the gaskets was damaged and had to be replaced. Instead of calling me and telling me I had to contact the manufacturer to get a new gasket, they called and got it ordered. My jeep needed a catalytic converter ended up having my exhaust done from front to back looked factory done at a very fair price and quickly I was very impressed how fast and clean it turned out I felt I got more than I paid for. HONEST!!!! I brought in my Range rover to have the brakes replaced after another place told me they were really bad and was quoted nearly $1000. Performance Brake and Muffler ordered the brakes and gave me a MUCH lower price. I got a call from them a few hours later after I was expecting them to install, and they had me come and look at my old brakes- they had plenty of meat left on them. I was told that my brakes were just fine and that it was a waste of money to replace them. What??!! They could have installed them and I would have been no the wiser. I was not charged a dime, even after insisting, and was asked to come here for future work. Um, done! Instead of taking advantage of a mechanically ignorant female customer, they earned a LIFETIME customer. I will never go to anyone else but these guys, even for my British SUV. My car was hit by a rock in the a/c compressor. I went to numerous shops which quoted me anywhere from $1500k to $600. When I went to the folks at this shop they told me they could probably weld it shut. However, after making an effort they were not able. Certainly, not due to their lack of skill but due to the extent of damage on the compressor. So they offered to put in a new compressor for free since they were not able to fix it by welding all I had to pay for was the part. Mark was very polite and professional. As a female it is quite easy to get intimidated at car repair shops however, I did not feel that way here. My overall repair cost me under $300 which was half of what the cheapest shop quoted me. I am very happy and they certainly have my business in the future. read more

I took a new truck I had bought here because it's my first diesel and I see many diesel s in their parking lot on a regular basis. I asked if they could just look over the whole truck and see what may all need to be done because it was used. They said no problem. After inspection they called to let me know all it needed was new track bar bushings and an oil change. I told them to go ahead and fix them. As I was pulling out of the parking lot the first problem I had a mechanic noticed I had a tail light out, I was irritated they missed it in the inspection but the mechanic fixed it right then and there and was really friendly about it. Three days later I headed to the bay area and on my way home was almost thrown off the road from a death wobble! After $300 in stabilizer parts my boyfriend put on for me I took it to be aligned hoping it would hopefully finally remedy the wobble. Only to find out THEY COULDN'T ALIGN IT UNTIL THE TRACK BAR BUSHINGS WERE REPLACED!!!! I still had the reciept from a month earlier showing performance had supposedly changed them! We went in and told the owner that nothing had been done that I'd been charged for because I'd just let go the fact my oil hadn't even been changed it was so thick when I got it home I thought it needed another one so I got the stuff at Walmart and did it at home. The owner Johnny looked me right in the face and practically called me a liar!!! He said he fixed both of the things himself and he remembered the truck. He was so rude, I was just dumbfounded I wasn't loud or rude or anything I just wanted done what I'd paid for. I will never go here again and I've been trying to let all my friends and family know what a crook this guy is. His mistake almost killed me on the freeway doing 70mph and his response was I was a liar. Don't go here find a place in modesto. The owner of this place is extremely rude. He misdiagnosed the issue with my car which caused me to fail a smog test twice. When I requested that he refund me for the part he charged me for that I did not even need, he became angry and started cussing due to his own mistake. They wasted two full days of my time because they didn't do a thorough job the first time around. Had it not been for the owner's low class behavior, the mistake would have been excusable.
