The soup was amazing and the wings in the mango habanero sauce were some of the best I have had. We have eaten here several times, and always found the food to be good. Tonight, we decided to try a dessert based on one of the menu descriptions. The description said the dessert was a molten cake which is something my wife and I really enjoy. It was nothing like a molten cake. Molten cakes are supposed to be served hot with lots of chocolate fudge and other items. We were served cold chocolate cake that was just pulled out of the refrigerator with watery chocolate sauce and whipped cream. There was nothing hot on the plate. Had but been there is awhile. It was a local gathering place, pub/sports bar food. Nothing special but was good but not great. Heard they had redone the restaurant and hired a chef. Went back at lunch to check it out. They've removed the pool tables and added mire tables, changed the menu and added daily fresh specials. Food was excellent and the server was very knowledgeable. Wake Forest desperately needs some quality restaurants. This is one of them. Kudos to the owners for making this change. It hurts my soul to give this only 3 stars... Food was 4*s The service was 1* It may be the best French onion soup in the area. The burnt ends were also a yummy table treat. One single ala carte order of burnt ends was a generous 4 slices. The hubs ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich, which he stated was moist and delicious but no spice (a bit bland for what you expect. The service was horrible. We were sat immediately on a Sunday evening which was moderately busy. (About half tables occupied) We waited about 7 minutes before our beverage order was taken. We soon received the beverages by another server, we didn't see our waitress for another 14 minutes. She took our order accurately but didn't fill our drinks. Our food was delivered still no refills or silverware. 5 minutes later she came by, for the third time I asked for a water, we also asked for napkins and silverware. We're got water and napkins but gave up on silverware. After finishing food, we waited 14 minutes and finally I hunted down our server to pay so we could leave. If it weren't for the delicious food I would not return. I will say all serving staff had masks and seemed to sanitize between and were super nice, just not attentive to tables. They didn't even appear short staffed just not very effective or efficient. read more

Just a short jaunt up to Wake Forest, The Real McCoy's is not to be missed. They have a TON of local craft beer and good cocktails- you're certain to find a drink that suits your needs. They have ample parking in front & tons of seating... & they even have a side room that's great for large groups or parties. Their pint night is $1 off all pints, and there are 52 beers (draft & bottle) to choose from- including many local brews. All of their food was homemade with a southern flair. The buffalo chicken dip was great but their boneless wings were even better! They served up a ton of homemade pork rinds w/ BBQ sauce. I really enjoyed the pulled pork too... and the banana pudding was just icing on the cake. Thanks to the owner, Nikki, and her husband for opening their arms & establishment to our hungry bellies... they're great to talk to and take pride in what they do. I went to dine at Real McCoy's in Wake Forest for lunch with a friend. For our appetizer, we ordered the soft pretzel bites. They were really good! For our entrees, I ordered the chicken tender platter. My friend ordered the fish and chips with asparagus. As far as the food goes, it was decent. The reason I rate this 3 stars is because the lack of coverage within the restaurant. For 30 minutes, our waitress did not attend to our table. She was busy occupying the bar area and to go orders, alone! I do not fault her. That's a management issue. And yes, I would have loved to directly talk to the manager, however, due for limited time, we were unable to, which is why I am addressing this here. Our cups went dry, we were out of napkins and these are a few things to name a few that were frowned upon. There's a lady who sits at the table near the front door. She would literally walk near our table but never ask us ANYTHING or see what could be done. When we finally asked about getting a refill, she looked and said she'd tell our waitress whenever she came around. My question is how hard is it to grab a refill for paying customers when you are clearly not doing anything but sitting at a table ?! Horrible attitude at that. After 35 minutes, we finally got a refill. The waitress was unapologetic. It's to be expected, she is fairly young. I like the food. But this management needs some serious work ! Good thing was tables in the back were open so we were seated right away. I had the McCoy Sampler Entree with pulled pork, smoked sausage and duck. All were good. So tonight I got the Hatfields platter....OMG....au jus came out cold, 1/8 inch cut brisket and the BBQ came out with it soaked in water... Never in 20 something years have I gotten 1/8 inch cut brisket.....it always is cut to pencil width. The fries was the best part of the platter. My wife got the Philly cheese steak sandwich and the meat was way over cooked to where there was no moisture in it at all. The fresh chips she got was not cooked all the way and the middle was chewy....bartender and the service was great but the food sucked....best part of our meal tonight was the pretzels and cheese. read more

Ordered 2 Fried Haddock for take-away. They were the worst fried fish we ever remember having. They were both a soggy mess. This is a photo after I picked out the fish inside the soggy breading ( and I am usually an empty-plate-guy). The tarter sauce was more like mayonnaise and really needed some relish mixed in. The only positives were the coleslaw, and the French Fries were good. I picked it up on time; and only had a two minute drive...so it really should have been crispy. I am so disappointed. This my favorite local bar of choice. Pretty darn good food too! Honey barbecue shrimp and sweet & spicy Thai wings are really good. Beer and wine selection is great with more than 20 beers on tap including lots of craft. 3 pool tables, shuffle board and Golden Tee. To start my family are new to the area so I dont usually look at ratings before I try it as we may enjoy the restaurant. However, after my first experience at Real McCoys I dont know that I will go back. To preface my order was togo: Ordered: 1 half rack of ribs Buffalo chicken sandwich Blackened chicken alfredo And 12 wings (garlic parmesan) Once I get home I notice there are only 3 boxes in my bag... they forgot my sandwich. I call up and chase/chance and he apologized and said it would be corrected by the time I got back up to the restaurant. As o go to leave my father checks his ribs and they are so hard and dry I cant get a fork in between the bones... We take these back up to the restaurant and pick up the new sandwich and they replace the ribs. Get back to my house and the new ribs are very well sauced but when cutting them open they are once again so dry that the meat is tearing instead of dally of the bone... pretty disappointing as they are known for the ribs Buffalo sandwich was Ehh at best and nothing spectacular. Chicken in the pasta was ok but after traveling back and forth it was so dry that I couldnt eat it but I'm bit holding that against them.. Overall for a 51 dollar price tag I'd say the only redeeming quality was the staff. read more

I've been here somewhat frequently and it's always been good. We went in two weeks in a row and I was impressed that the bartender remembered my drink. He's a very personable guy, wish I remembered his name to give him props. The atmosphere is good and food hasn't let me down although I was there once and ordered a philly cheesesteak and fries and the plate couldn't be any smaller. After eating at the Real McCoy's I realized that the stars of the menu are anything that was smoked. Seriously, the smell alone is intoxicating and the smoky, wood flavor makes all the difference in the dishes. I ordered the Fig & Pig, which is a flatbread topped with pulled pork, homemade fig preserves, goat cheese, mozzarella and poached apples. The smell of the pulled pork, even thru a thick blanket of mozzarella, was wonderful and the flavor was fantastic. Overall- the flatbread fell flat. It absolutely did not need the mozzarella- just a bit more fig and goat cheese and it would be spot on. The Philly was served on this style of hoagie roll that we love and my husband enjoyed it. Next time we'll order dishes made with smoked meats, like the pulled pork and smoked chicken. Other pluses, there's a huge, comfortable bar and the staff provides great service. read more

The waitress at 6pm should know the soup of the day. The manager should attempt to speak to people AFTER they have ordered instead of hovering around a bar with 10 people or less. The French onion soup has almost no onions and is like a vat of beef broth with a sponge and salt shaker. The tuna tastes like cardboard and does not come with wasabi or ginger yet they make wasabi mashed potatoes. One should ask how given that they do not have wasabi even upon request. If a waitress doesn't ask why everyone still has over half their food, I have to believe she knows it's because it's terrible. I'm sad to see this establishment go so far downhill. If your new chef created a menu that he cannot deliver, he either needs more schooling or another career. I will not be back. If you feel forced to go stick to cheese fries and beer... can't mess those up. read more
