I can't believe I've never reviewed this store. Ready to Run has been my go to for 13 years. The service has always been great. Love that they don't overwhelm with show selections and keep it simple. Having led a run group at one time, RTR was very supportive and even offered to hold shoeminars on site. I feel that compared to other stores, RTR's price points are very comparable, often beating the competition. The staff are all helpful and very knowledgeable when it comes to fittings and recommendations. I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I walked in after having bought shoes 10 years earlier in a box. I was poorly educated about athletic footwear. I received individual attention as soon as I came in. She sized my foot. Imagine that!  It was a good thing, too, because my size is different now that I'm older. We discussed what I needed, different shoes were brought to me, and I tested them out.  I learned "the runner's tie" to secure my shoes better, which helped narrow down my choice. I had no idea that shoes could fit so well! The woman helping me didn't show irritation with me with any wavering I had, or questions I asked.  I didn't feel like I didn't belong as an average person needing shoes, rather than as an athlete.  The only thing I will note: the price point on the shoes here is high. Don't walk in expecting department store box shoe prices.  That said, the cost truly belies the quality you get. read more

Rory and his staff are dedicated, upbeat, energized and committed to assisting you to find the perfect shoe for your foot. They have shown me that they aren't looking to just make a sale and willing to accommodate if you have issues to satisfy the customer. They take time to listen to your concerns and needs and then evaluate your foot your walk before making suggestions. I have never been to a dedicated shoe store where they actually watch you run and help you pick a shoe based on your gait. I recently found out my left foot is pronated and while talking to Rachel, I withheld that info to see if she would notice and she picked up on it right away! After all these years, I also never knew that when you run, your feet swell and for that reason the recommendation is to buy your shoes 1/2-1 whole size larger than you normally wear. After trying on several shoes and actually being able to run in them, I left feeling very confident with my new shoes. Rachel was a wealth of information and I really appreciated her help. read more

I was greeted right when I walked in. I'm a little overweight so sometimes when I walk into running stores this doesn't always happen because most people don't think I will buy something but I knew I needed help. They fitted me for a pair of shoes and I paid $175 for them. Four months later, after only waking in them daily, they had a hole in them. When I brought them in to ask for a refund or a replacement they told me it was normal wear. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I hate writing a negative review since everyone at the store was incredibly nice but they recommended the wrong shoe. I went there because I was having ankle and knee pain. They recommended Altra shoes. A couple of weeks later, I went back because the pain was worse and they recommended insoles which didn't help at all. I went elsewhere and the correctly recommended a max cushion Hokas which was obviously what I needed and the pain is gone. These guys are awesome! When I came in, I told them that I was having some issues with shin splints. Right away, he measured my feet, had me walk back and forth across a mat to assess my gait and run back and forth across a mat to take a look at the arch of my foot, and just like that, he knew what shoes I needed. I found out a lot of valuable information (like the fact that somehow, I've been wearing a size and a half too small!) and let me know some different things I could do to prevent shin splints. I took in my old pair of sneaks, and the gentleman who helped me looked at how they wore. It turns out I was wearing the wrong type of shoe, and the wrong size! As a running newbie, I had zero clue about what I need and what types of shoes are best for my feet. I ended up with a pair of New Balance 860's, two pairs of DryMax socks, and a Ready to Run tshirt. What an awesome team! They are patient and consultative - making sure you get the right gear for you and your goals! I'm trying to get moving again. Have a fair amount of knee pain & want to start slowly. Had done some research prior to going to Ready to Run to buy a pair of Saucony Guides. Something very odd with my foot. Can never find arch support that strikes in the correct place, especially my right foot. I liked the Guide. Good padding rear and front. Stable platform. But arch support was too far back. Team at Ready to Run did a great job spending time diagnosing the issue. Tried a few different inserts with a few different "neutral shoes" (their term) - ended up getting size medium CUR-REX RunPro inserts and size 9 New Balance M880A shoes. We'll see how it goes from here, but they felt GREAT in the store. Cannot thank the team at Ready to Run enough for their work today. After three tries of buying running shoes on my own and three times choosing shoes that made my feet bleed, I gave in to the reality that I don't know how to pick the right shoes on my own. Because of all the great reviews, I drove from South Austin to this store. An older gentleman in his 70s helped me and he acted like he had all the time in the world. He patiently measured my feet and brought out 8 different pairs of shoes for me to try, then watched me walk in them. It turned out I had no idea what my foot size really was, nor did I know how to tie my shoelaces correctly for my narrow heels. He was awesome and the price I paid for the shoes was well worth it. I've worn them through the first six weeks of a training program and this are the best running shoes I've ever had. Oh, and he also taught me how to choose better socks. We stopped into Ready to Run this afternoon and Ryan and David spent over a half an hour with my wife and I consulting on running sneakers and working with us to find the best type of shoe. They carefully studied our gait and focused on a type of Brooks sneaker that would be perfect (we both pronate, meaning we land on the outer beck edge of our heal). My wife is slowly progressing into greater levels of activity after her pregnancy with our baby, and they were thoughtful about what type of shoe would best fit her needs moving forward. Their attention to details was impressive! The store space is clean and inviting, with easy access off Mopac by Far West Blvd. There was plenty of parking. They had a number of other fitness related apparel and items on site as well. We stocked up on socks, and some additional gear. The prices were very fair. For us, footwear isn't the place you want to cut corners. For anyone in the market for a new pair of running sneakers this is the perfect place to go. All their gear is of premium quality. You're investing in a well made product built to last. Again, knowledgeable, friendly staff, great prices, supporting a local business. Win, win, win. Not sure why this place has such great reviews. I was shocked by how rude the staff were, in fact I was so frustrated that I left and purchased my shoes elsewhere in protest. I was referred by my doctor who gave me a signed prescription using Ready to Run's form. The form states that with a doctor's signature the purchase will be tax free and a discount will be applied. My first visit was fine. I was helped by a friendly woman who seemed competent and helped me find the right pair of shoes. I end up ordering a pair (my size wasn't available), which were delivered about a week later. When I returned a week later to pickup the ordered pair, I was helped by a woman who was courteous but not at all friendly. She refused to honor the tax free promise on the form. I was happy to pay full price with tax, but was a little confused as on my previous visit I was told it would be tax free. And so I *exceedingly politely* asked why. She then called for her colleague, Charles, to come over and started immediately and extremely rudely lecturing me on how it's not tax free unless there's a doctors prescription and tried to condescendingly explain to me what a prescription is. The thing is I had a prescription, signed by a doctor, using the store's very own prescription form! And the form explicitly stated that if signed by a doctor the purchase would be tax free. I then *exceedingly politely* asked whether there might be another form my doctor should use, perhaps we should clear up the misunderstanding. Charles then stormed off, and muttering "I don't have time for this shit." I have never been treated so rudely without any provocation. I am more confused than angry. The whole incident was just truly weird. In short, Charles is hostile and unprofessional. And apparently the store refuses to honor their promises or recognize their own prescription forms. What? Glad other people have had positive experiences, but I sure as hell won't be returning. read more

I had a really pleasant experience here. The woman who helped me was clearly a runner herself and really knowledgable about not just how different running shoes fit but also asked me the right questions to guide me towards a few pairs to try on. She even knew the exact model of my old shoes based on my really vague, crappy description. I tried four pairs with different qualities - ran in two pairs and left with a pair that felt really natural and made for me. The associate (I wish I had asked her name so I wouldn't have to call her "the associate") was super friendly and since I'm not from here, gave me a bunch of recommendations for trails both near where I'm staying and where I'm working. I feel so lucky to live in a place that supports stores such as Ready to Run. I've been buying multiple pairs of running shoes at a time off Zappos, trying them all on at home, and never quite being completely satisfied with how they fit and made me feel during runs. After reading all the positive reviews of this shop and assuming all the reviews were over-exaggerations I had to check it out. I walked in and within 3 minutes the gentleman helping me (I didn't catch his name but he was wonderful) knew exactly which shoes were the ones for me. He had me try on a few other pairs but his original suggestion was spot on. Yes, you are going to pay slightly more when you shop here, but you are supporting a local and rare gem. Their prices are not outrageous and completely worth it given the amount of time and dedication they spend making sure you find a shoe that fits. Every year or so, I decide that this will be the year I start to run. With that, I need proper shoes. I knew I needed to go somewhere where they would look at how I run, hear any issues I have, and determine which shoes are best for me. I read the reviews and stopped by Ready to Run earlier this year for some shoes. Ended up with a pair that I loved. Started to run(ish). A couple months later, one of the shoes was wearing funny and I took them back. Since I was out of the refund period, they couldn't take them back (which I totally understood), but they looked at the shoes and felt like it was a defect and not natural wear and tear. They printed out a copy of my receipt, gave me the information to contact the manufacturer, and told me that they could also order in new shoes for me and hold them, but I should contact the manufacturer first. They also apologized for the experience, though it was not necessary and not their fault at all. I contacted the manufacturer and it was determined the shoes were defective, so they sent me a new pair. Ready to Run still had the other pair of shoes on hold for me, but when I called them and told them I was getting a replacement pair from the manufacturer, they were really happy that the issue was being taken care of and put the shoes back out on the sales floor. Most places would have said "Sorry, you're SOL" to me when I walked in with defective shoes, but they went above and beyond and offered me a couple of different choices on how to handle the situation. When I need to buy my next pair of shoes, it will be here. read more

Summary: Took two visits to get it right- but we got it right! And it was a really easy process. Details: I started doing OrangeTheory in January after years of not working out since I last played sports in college. I obviously had to update my gear- and originally went to NordstromRack for running shoes. They worked initially as I was only working out 2 times a week, but once I upped my workouts to 3 times a week I felt like I needed to really invest in some good, supportive running shoes. Also part of my issue was the shoes I had were too soft for the workout portion of OrangeTheory. I asked around and researched and learned there were stores that specifically fitted one for shoes and figured that was the best route to go. Ready to Run was one of the closest options and seemed to fit my needs. I went in- explained my current issues and what I was looking for and was happy the woman was familiar with OrangeTheory and what kind of workout it requires. She watched me run, and she pulled 3 pairs of shoes- the first very sturdy- which perfectly fit what I requested since I complained about my shoes being too soft. The other two were- very, very strange shoes, so the first seemed like a perfect fit and I was checked out within minutes of entering the store. Plus I grabbed a pair of sunnies which was on my shopping list- and those have been great! I never quite felt right in the shoes when running on the treadmill. I thought maybe I just needed to break them in- but after the 6th class my foot was in serious pain which required rest and ice... not what one hopes with new shoes! I was nervous about going back to the store because everything she provided was based off my request, and I didn't know if the could accommodate me. I went anyways because the shoes weren't cheap, and I figured I had to try. I went with a friend who was also getting shoes, and waited until the guy working with her was finished. He heard me out and was quick to get started trying some other options- which was nice since I was worried I'd get shrugged off since I had already put the shoes to use. I also explained I felt like I didn't run how I normally run when I first visited because of the space- and he brought me outside to test out the shoes and watched. This gave me more space to really run how I run- and I ended up with a great pair of comfortable shoes. I'm not in love with the colors/ design, but it's all that was available and clearly it's not the looks that matter- it's being able to workout without being in pain!
