Evil company! Scum of earth -- lowest of the low. RCs Towing Illegally snatched my car from Borekas Restaurant at 15030 Ventura Blvd. --while I was eating. I had been there not even 30 minutes and that lot allows for one hour. The ding-a-ling parking attendant Carlos sent RCs Towing a camera phone snap of 2 identical Teslas -- one of which belonged to me. No doubt -- I believe there is definitely a kick back scheme going on here. When I showed up to get my car without paying because I had done nothing wrong, I quickly learned that was not going to happen. One of the employees tried to slam my arm in the window as I blocked him from shutting it. I yelled so loud my head started pounding and I thought I was having a stroke. After that, I left to get cash and file a police report at the nearby Van Nuys station. When I went to pay, the woman said cash, or charge. When getting my car towed by the RC company was the worst ever traumatizing experience I have ever had with a tow company. I was moving furniture to my car which my mom was watching my car but had to come and open the door so I can get out with the furniture to put in my car . And we came back. The car was gone no less than three minutes they took my car meaning they were sitting by the door. They knew we was by the car putting furniture in there were no other way for me to park. I don't live at the apartment complex my mother she didn't have any parking spots for me but instead of asking us to move the car they just stood there and waited till she left to open the door for me and watch so when we arrived at the towing company . We arrived there before them when we called on the phone, the lady said my car wasn't even in the towing yard yet. So when we got there, they were puting my car in the tow yard and the guy told me that the price was $453 dollars and my car. Haven't even been there no less than 15 minutes when I told them they could've just took my car off truck they told me no they wanted to charge me a ridiculous amount. The guy who was handling. This was very nonchalant coldhearted talking in a very condescending and sarcastic demeanor and couldn't explain why they were charging me that much. He was not helpful at all , and when my mom tried to see my car and asked the man why couldn't we just get our things out of the car? He then proceeded to push and shove my mom which made her very angry and then when they wanted to say that she had assaulted the man when he opened the gate and let us and when the police ask for the footage they claim the there cameras was down When my mom was in the tow yard she then decided to stay in the car because she did not trust these people said that they would charge us every hour and I knew it was illegal. We called the police three times. The police didn't answer and then he laughed and said that the police wouldn't get here fast enough and we were gonna end up paying more money they had my mom stuck in the tow yard because they said that I couldn't pay with her card. I had to get my card I didn't have my card so they made me drive all the way back home to get my card when it didn't make sense because that's our family car, but it belong to me and they have my mom locked in the tow yard cause she wasn't leaving. SCAMMER SCOUTING VAN NUYS. RC towed my car illegally today from a shopping center after parked only 45mins as a paying customer at 2 different stores. VANOWEN & SEPULVEDA. The signs indicate no overnight parking. I was there 11am-11:45am RC Towing works with a company that has scouts on patrol who call them to point out cars to tow. I committed no violation, called and arrived within the hour with TIME STAMPED RECEIPTS to prove it. I called the stores on speaker with the managers to confirm I was there, shopped, paid & they did not request the tow. (Thank you O'Reilly!) The security officer on duty told me he did not call to request it. Security informed me a woman has the specific job and told him bragging she was targeting me. I called the police department to request assistance to release my car but only got voicemail. I went to the police department in person. They confirmed I had a case but need to spend money to take RC to claims court for the crime. Since I am not wealthy enough to loss more work and time away from my children, I am not able to pursue this legally. After doing the math, they agreed my quoted fee of $380 was actually $210 based on the time stamps of the tow and my arrival, but it wasn't without a conversation and over an hour of time wasted. Please be careful of scouts on patrol when you park in Van Nuys. This scam is not new, they need the money as much as I do, but partners to failing businesses are ruthless. read more

I want to preface by saying I was so nervous, especially because I've never been towed before. Like so many, I made a mistake, misread a sign, and when that happens, you pay the price. And also, let's get real, no one wants to go to a tow/impound lot. That being said, I hope this is helpful for a newbie like me who runs into this problem. I found out through my car app that my alarm went off, and I went to find my car. Had I not gotten that notification, I would not have acted as fast as I did once I realized my car is missing, and that is key. Act fast. 1. Call them immediately. I found out I was towed on a Friday night. Call didn't go through because the business hours were not in operation. I checked online and saw they were closed on weekends but weekday hours started at 8am. So I called 8am on Saturday anyway and someone did pick up the phone so ALWAYS CALL. The longer the car is in the lot the more it will cost. They told me exactly what to bring (photo ID) and that I can swing by. 2. Have your ID ready and ask for the total on the phone. Have the cash ready, but get a bit more than what you think you need. If you need to pay with card, keep in mind that the card you use has to be the same that is listed on the registration with the car. For that reason alone, I'd prefer to just be make the extra trip for cash. 3. ASK FOR AN ITEMIZED BILL BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR PAYMENT. I asked for an itemized bill for detail of the services I paid for, and they didn't budge at first. Be persistent. They looked visibly annoyed, but I didn't care, it's my car and I want to know what I'm paying for before I give my money. All people are entitled to this. When they said they didn't want to do that I replied, "I understand you need to see my ID anyway, please let me see an itemized bill so I can have some clarity for the services I'm paying for." With that they checked my ID, and came back with a detailed summary before I gave them my cash. That is very important! 3. There is nothing wrong with asking details about your vehicle being towed. I asked how they were able to tow my car. They said they couldn't give me an answer. Eh, big deal. But sometimes it's good to ask to find out if they needed written authorization or if it was a drive-by pickup. Because written notice is the difference between unlawful and lawful towing. 4. Inspect your vehicle throughly before you leave. In this case, I had no damages, no marks, and no scratches on my car! So in that case, all was well! All in all, I thought it was going to be a lot worse based on previous reviews, but in my case, it wasn't. They could have been annoyed, but no one was rude to me, my car was in good shape, and everyone was safe, so that's good in my book. No one likes being in this situation. But if this happens, show up fast, prepared, and don't be afraid to be thorough with your car! I hope this helps. read more

Oof. I really don't like leaving bad reviews, but I can definitely see how this place is 1. An unclaimed business (meaning they don't care at all for reputation and their service quality) and 2. Only has bad reviews with the exception of the one Karen's 5 stars. Only a dusty Karen would give this place a good review. Though I'm absolutely certain that they are effective in picking up cars, I have serious doubts about what kind of business they run here. I made a mistake in parking and I got my car towed so I ended up at the lot to find that the rules were strange- if you pay in cash, they just need your ID but if you pay with a card, they ask for proof of registration and insurance, which makes zero sense aside from the fact that they just want cash transactions. However, they don't offer any change and I didn't see an ATM on site anywhere. So, they'll happily take your money but don't have change so you can only give them more of your money. They are not open on the weekends- except for Saturday by appointment only and there's a higher charge for getting your car out on Saturday. If you need your car on Sunday, you're screwed. The whole business seems to be designed to be as unhelpful as possible. The place itself is a dump. The building looks beat up and dirty. The carpet on the place looks like it's never been changed and everything about the place looks like a front for a shady operation. Busted cars parked outside the office entryway, busted cars in the parking area and the presence of the cops at my arrival only add to the distinct air of crooked business that this place has on it. The person at the window was nice enough and said he had just started working there. Which I found interesting because he's probably the only new "thing" this place has seen for a long time. Overall, I'm glad my experience with them was short and to the point, but I'm not at all surprised by the allegations made against this place. They have every sign of being shady and I personally hope to never have to pick up my car from this shady spot in the future. My truck was towed this morning for being parked in a "fire lane". It was not parked in a fire lane, there was no signage posted, no red curb and no fire hydrant anywhere in the vicinity. I was given a piece of paper with a list of police stations I could call to complain at, one of which was no longer in service and another where they had no idea why I was given their number to complain to. I finally reached the police commission and filed a complaint and will be doing so with the BBB as well. I took pictures of all of the signs in the area and cannot find a thing. A neighbor called to have my vehicle towed from a guest parking spot in the apartment complex. They didn't check to make sure that the person calling for the tow was authorized. They illegally towed my car and made me fight them for nearly 20 days to get my money back. That's not the only illegal practice they engage in. They require exact change if you pay cash to pick up your vehicle. California Law requires that they keep cash on hand to make change if people don't have exact change. My car recently got impounded while it was parked in my own apartment complex as a result of an incompetent security guard. I say this because I've been a resident since 2000 and have had a permit on my car since they began distributing them for residents and yet I STILL got towed... Needless to say, I would find it surprising if anyone had anything good to say about a towing company. But to be fair, the receptionist (more like the only person even working IN the office) was pretty nice to me despite the circumstances. *** PLEASE NOTE *** If you are not the registered owner of the car that was impounded then you MUST pay in cash! If you were unfortunate like me, the closest ATM is a Western Bagel off Sepulveda Blvd, maybe a 2 min walk at most. If you are, you can choose to pay via credit card but there is a $2 transaction fee. * Fees * The fees for impounded cars vary based on how long they've been there and at what time you chose to pick it up. The signage says it's a $223.50 fee for the first hour it's kept but since realistically they're not going to charge you for having your car towed at, say, 3AM, If for example you're like any sensible worker who gets up to drive to work around 8AM, they wouldn't charge you over $1000 for the inconvenience. * Just my thoughts on the situation... * I'm still trying to understand why my car was impounded for the reason that I didn't have a permit when my permit was VERY CLEARLY HANGING ON MY REAR VIEW MIRROR LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE! But I guess I can't blame RC due to it being "part of their job" and I suppose they wouldn't know what a permit from my apartment would look like... even though the hang tag says the apartment complex name on it... and they know the apartments that they work for...
