I want to preface by saying I was so nervous, especially because I've never been towed before. Like so many, I made a mistake, misread a sign, and when that happens, you pay the price. And also, let's get real, no one wants to go to a tow/impound lot. That being said, I hope this is helpful for a newbie like me who runs into this problem. I found out through my car app that my alarm went off, and I went to find my car. Had I not gotten that notification, I would not have acted as fast as I did once I realized my car is missing, and that is key. Act fast. 1. Call them immediately. I found out I was towed on a Friday night. Call didn't go through because the business hours were not in operation. I checked online and saw they were closed on weekends but weekday hours started at 8am. So I called 8am on Saturday anyway and someone did pick up the phone so ALWAYS CALL. The longer the car is in the lot the more it will cost. They told me exactly what to bring (photo ID) and that I can swing by. 2. Have your ID ready and ask for the total on the phone. Have the cash ready, but get a bit more than what you think you need. If you need to pay with card, keep in mind that the card you use has to be the same that is listed on the registration with the car. For that reason alone, I'd prefer to just be make the extra trip for cash. 3. ASK FOR AN ITEMIZED BILL BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR PAYMENT. I asked for an itemized bill for detail of the services I paid for, and they didn't budge at first. Be persistent. They looked visibly annoyed, but I didn't care, it's my car and I want to know what I'm paying for before I give my money. All people are entitled to this. When they said they didn't want to do that I replied, "I understand you need to see my ID anyway, please let me see an itemized bill so I can have some clarity for the services I'm paying for." With that they checked my ID, and came back with a detailed summary before I gave them my cash. That is very important! 3. There is nothing wrong with asking details about your vehicle being towed. I asked how they were able to tow my car. They said they couldn't give me an answer. Eh, big deal. But sometimes it's good to ask to find out if they needed written authorization or if it was a drive-by pickup. Because written notice is the difference between unlawful and lawful towing. 4. Inspect your vehicle throughly before you leave. In this case, I had no damages, no marks, and no scratches on my car! So in that case, all was well! All in all, I thought it was going to be a lot worse based on previous reviews, but in my case, it wasn't. They could have been annoyed, but no one was rude to me, my car was in good shape, and everyone was safe, so that's good in my book. No one likes being in this situation. But if this happens, show up fast, prepared, and don't be afraid to be thorough with your car! I hope this helps. read more

SCAMMER SCOUTING VAN NUYS. RC towed my car illegally today from a shopping center after parked only 45mins as a paying customer at 2 different stores. VANOWEN & SEPULVEDA. The signs indicate no overnight parking. I was there 11am-11:45am RC Towing works with a company that has scouts on patrol who call them to point out cars to tow. I committed no violation, called and arrived within the hour with TIME STAMPED RECEIPTS to prove it. I called the stores on speaker with the managers to confirm I was there, shopped, paid & they did not request the tow. (Thank you O'Reilly!) The security officer on duty told me he did not call to request it. Security informed me a woman has the specific job and told him bragging she was targeting me. I called the police department to request assistance to release my car but only got voicemail. I went to the police department in person. They confirmed I had a case but need to spend money to take RC to claims court for the crime. Since I am not wealthy enough to loss more work and time away from my children, I am not able to pursue this legally. After doing the math, they agreed my quoted fee of $380 was actually $210 based on the time stamps of the tow and my arrival, but it wasn't without a conversation and over an hour of time wasted. Please be careful of scouts on patrol when you park in Van Nuys. This scam is not new, they need the money as much as I do, but partners to failing businesses are ruthless. read more

My truck was towed this morning for being parked in a "fire lane". It was not parked in a fire lane, there was no signage posted, no red curb and no fire hydrant anywhere in the vicinity. I was given a piece of paper with a list of police stations I could call to complain at, one of which was no longer in service and another where they had no idea why I was given their number to complain to. They illegally towed my car and made me fight them for nearly 20 days to get my money back. That's not the only illegal practice they engage in. They require exact change if you pay cash to pick up your vehicle. California Law requires that they keep cash on hand to make change if people don't have exact change. My car recently got impounded while it was parked in my own apartment complex as a result of an incompetent security guard. I say this because I've been a resident since 2000 and have had a permit on my car since they began distributing them for residents and yet I STILL got towed... Needless to say, I would find it surprising if anyone had anything good to say about a towing company. But to be fair, the receptionist (more like the only person even working IN the office) was pretty nice to me despite the circumstances. *** PLEASE NOTE *** If you are not the registered owner of the car that was impounded then you MUST pay in cash! If you were unfortunate like me, the closest ATM is a Western Bagel off Sepulveda Blvd, maybe a 2 min walk at most. If you are, you can choose to pay via credit card but there is a $2 transaction fee. * Fees * The fees for impounded cars vary based on how long they've been there and at what time you chose to pick it up. The signage says it's a $223.50 fee for the first hour it's kept but since realistically they're not going to charge you for having your car towed at, say, 3AM, If for example you're like any sensible worker who gets up to drive to work around 8AM, they wouldn't charge you over $1000 for the inconvenience. * Just my thoughts on the situation... * I'm still trying to understand why my car was impounded for the reason that I didn't have a permit when my permit was VERY CLEARLY HANGING ON MY REAR VIEW MIRROR LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE! UNBELIEVABLY HORRIBLE BUSINESS!!! They illegally towed our car right after we lost both of my husband's parents to covid in 2021. In less than an hour of parking at my deceased in-laws apartment building, our car was wisked away while we were cleaning out their apartment and helping their cat, just days after they passed. We even left a note on the car and were just inside the building. Roni Corado didn't show up to any of the Small Claims Court dates or even the appeal that he initiated (which turned out to be denied by the court because it was filed too late.) According to information I acquired, they are being sued constantly (and go before the same judge at the Van Nuys Courthouse over and over) and I have yet to speak to anyone who has been paid when the are ordered by the Superior Court to pay damages. Including us. Yet he is still has a permit to do business and sanctioned by the LAPD Police Commission. They have a "F" rating on BBB and have harmed so many people on Yelp as well. The are so predatory and unethical that they even ignored a letter we had an attorney draft. Their MO is to wait you out, thinking that you will just give up.
