Tried for the first time today because I was looking for a quick bite before heading to work. They have so many options but decided to try out the Egyptian Wrap. It was really good. Wrap had falafel and a ton of veggies mixed in with this great sauce. Generous portion size and service was also great-- all the employees were really friendly! Location is a little cramped-- or so I thought. Turns out there is a second level which is cozy and actually overlooks the cooking area. This is an amazing hidden jewel of a place. It looks like a typical hole in the wall, but when you walk in, the color and warmth hit you hard. It's clean, decorated, and has great great service. The main problem is that the place is small, so staircase and 2nd floor are cramped. But if you're willing to overlook that, you'll admit this place is well kept. Now I didn't want to give five stars too early, but after taking a bite, I'm rest assured. The grass-fed beef here is fantastic! A small, cute Mediterranean shop with few indoor and outdoor seating selling Mexican and Mediterranean food. I've been here twice, and always opted for Mediterranean food, which I thoroughly enjoyed and would definitely come back for! Both times, I got the Mediterranean Plate, which comes with some chickpeas topped on hummus, tabouleh, salad, rice+lentil, pita, and 1 falafel. Having only one falafel in this dish was a bit disappointing because it's so delicious and I would've expected to have more. However, it's a pretty filling, hearty, and fresh dish, perfect if you're opting for a lighter meal. Razan's is a good and quick hole-in-the-wall joint for Mediterranean food in Berkeley. I had a shawarma craving and came in here on Friday night. My Chicken Shawarma came out just about right - a wrap filled with grilled chicken meat, hummus, and veggies. The kitchen and counter area are very busy, which adds to the bustling atmosphere in there. They have tons of other options on the menu which I'll explore next time I'm back. Best organic, healthy, nutritious food in all of Berkeley! Wholesome foods and fresh veggies. I love this little cafe off of Kittredge St. and right near CAL! I wholeheartedly support this establishment. They have a nice upstairs seating area, always fresh food and ingredients. I highly reccomend their Burritos and Combo Plates! Always delicious food! This place is a such a hidden gem of Berkeley. The food quality is top notch. Everything is organic, made with love, & labor. Places like this are rare. It's not always easy to find a healthy food place that is priced well. The tall gentleman behind the counter who makes the orders has always been so polite and very inviting to customers. This is a small, local operation, and I appreciate it so much! Quality food with quality ingredients. I grew up eating Mediterranean food and this tastes pretty close to home. Always been a fan of Razan's. I wish it was just slightly cheaper, but for the quality, I'd keep coming :D The plates are generous and the staff are so friendly. They're open to recommending you various options. The chicken hummus plate is super delicious (and they were kind enough to give me more pita bread as they saw I ran out during my meal) - they overload you on hummus, which I'd probably ask to reduce the amount next time because your girl can only tolerate so much hummus as once! This is a jewel of a place in downtown Berkeley. 100% organic lunch. I ordered the steamed greens burrito which came on a whole wheat tortilla stuffed, gently, with brown rice, steamed greens and salsa. There is a salsa bar where I added fresh onions, cilantro and more salsa and gobbled that baby up. So good. There was very little oil used and didn't fall apart like some burritos I've eaten. Clean healthy food to fuel my temple. The staff is over the top nice and I had the pleasure of watching the owner unload all of his fresh organic veggies while I was eating. I came here today so excited to freshly prepared healthy organic food! Unfortunately, I had a Terrible experience. The customer service was the worst I have experienced. Rude, unhelpful and lack of information regarding menu. I ordered a wild salmon wrap, which was decent, but the experience alone makes me not want to try this place ever again. I dined here today and the food was so delicious that I literally forgot my purse in the restaurant! I was so excited to gather my left overs and extra sauces that I left it right there at the table, and didn't even think about it or realize I had left it until after I got all the way home to San Leandro! We called in after, and the super kind staff had already found it and set it aside for us to come back and pick up. After we retrieved it, my purse and all of it's contents remained untouched (including my wallet and phone). I was having sort of a rough day, and that act of genuine kindness really warmed my heart and made me smile. (Thank you guys!) The dudes behind the counter were gruff, barely grunting a word to me as I ordered and asked questions about the menu. It was a really weird vibe. Goes to show that service can really change your experience of a place. I came here because of the *Organic* menu & free range meats and fish. I ordered the Mediterranean plate (Lentils, Rice, Hummus, Falafel, Tabouleh, Pita Bread and Tahini - 11.95). They let me substitute baba ganoush for the rice. I watched them make everything, and it all looked really fresh, down to the grated carrot garnish. Quality & taste-wise, all was good. You probably want to order to-go, as the place is tiny with about 5 tables + the weird vibe inside. Grab some of their red & green sauces before you head out. Awesome that they offer 100% organic grub, now they just need to add some organic love & smiles from their staff to make it a real winner! read more

The falafel still gets 5 stars, but the 3 star price is disappointing especially in a college town with so many Mediterranean options. I was driving to pick up food from another location. I wanted a little, inexpensive snack to hold me over, so I drove to Razan's. My falafel took a tad longer than expected, but I was ok with waiting. I ordered three falafel. The service was still just ok, 3 stars. The falafel price was almost $6. Hmm...you mean to tell me that wraps with falafel are only $2-3 dollars more??! I realize times are tough, and I want to support local, but $2/ball is a bit expensive. Will I return, perhaps if I want to splurge on falafel and hummus , or to try the Egyptian wrap. read more

I'll get this out of the way: The avocado add-on is a ripoff. Don't order it. It's expensive, and although it's organic, it's really not worth it. And because most menu items are already so flavorful, you won't need it. The Jerusalem Wrap is one of the best things I've ever tasted. Ever.* It's so good. I can't wait to try the Lebanon Wrap; but I also wish I could just eat the Jerusalem Wrap for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a midnight snack. With a side order of French fries. And potato puffs from Gregoire. The menu is pretty extensive, and although the food's not cheap, the prices really aren't that bad. With the clear exception of the avocado, the organic ingredients are worth paying for. They're so fresh. You will have to wait a little while for your wrap because they're preparing everything to order, but it's a happy, purposeful wait. And while you're waiting, you can peruse the awesome maps on the wall or check out which non-meat items you can get all your daily recommended nutrients from. (There's a hand-drawn-looking table between the maps and the cooler.) It's a cramped little space, and I always order takeout, so I've never been upstairs. The workers could be friendlier, but they're not actually rude, either, and they are very efficient and work well as a team. This is the kind of political, hippy-dippy place you would expect Berkeley to be crawling with, but sadly, they're too few and far between. And they're often crammed into these little out-of-the-way storefronts on streets like Kittredge. *Although I'm prone to hyperbole, it's usually of the obvious-exaggeration sort. So, for example, I might tell you, "It's 2.7 million degrees in here," but you'll know that it's not really 2.7 million degrees. UPDATE: 7/7/13 ============= I'm knocking Razan's down a star because the bathrooms are on the impossible-for-wheelchairs-to-reach second floor, meaning the restaurant is wheelchair inaccessible. Boo to that, but a wholehearted and continuing yea to the Jerusalem Wrap. Yes, it's the best thing on the menu, but 90 percent of the menu is still stellar. Put another way, you could do much much worse than Razan's. read more

I went to Razan's earlier this week before work to get a burrito. While waiting for my order, I was incredibly disturbed by the extremely homophobic conversation the employees were having behind the counter. It started with a general discussion of whether "being gay is a choice" and evolved into statements comparing the lgbt community to pedophiles and assertions that people are gay because they are sexually abused as children. It went on for awhile, largely in Spanish, and I assume they thought I couldn't understand them because I'm white and don't appear Spanish-speaking. As it turns out, I both speak and understand Spanish perfectly well. By the time my burrito was ready, I was really infuriated and told the staff members that I thought their homophobia was seriously awful and would never come back. So, don't go to Razan's and get any homophobic burritos. read more

Razan's was excellent and I highly recommend supporting this local business! We ordered vegetarian platters for our kids' birthday party through their catering site and all our guests loved the food and came back for more. Everything was really tasty, I especially loved the babaghanoush, and the portions were generous too. The order was ready on time and the food came in sturdy compostable containers and was clearly labelled including whether it was vegan or gluten free. Although I have been to Razan's many times during my city of Berkeley work life I haven't written a review till now. This is one of vegan Mr Rinky's favorite places to eat. They offer healthy, mostly organic Middle Eastern food including platters, wraps,burritos, sandwiches, salads,soups and more. Drinks include juices, smoothes and San Pelligrino sodas. I had the falafel wrap which was very tasty. Mr R had the veggie wrap. Yummy! Their food is a bit pricey but the quality of their food is very high. The space is very small, You order at the counter. There are about 6-8 tables for two on the main floor. They have a 2nd floor with more seating that I've never seen because of my difficulty in maneuvering stairs. The staff is very friendly. Your food nay take awhile to prepare since it is made to order. They have a loyal following and have been around for many years and will probably be here for many years to come. read more

Even as someone who never specifically looks for organic and/or vegetarian food, this is a really great spot for quick and tasty lunch (which happens to also be healthy). My favorite by far is the Egyptian wrap, which has falafel, hummus, tomatoes, lettuce, and tahini. They always ask me if I want hot sauce in it (the answer is always yes), but I wish they'd put more. The amount they add is enough to give it a little kick, but I usually grab more hot sauce on the side to make the whole thing more spicy. I feel like a lot places do falafel wrong by making them dry and flavorless, but Razan's falafel is great. Crispy on the outside, but moist and super flavorful on the inside. Combined with everything else in the wrap, it's amazing! Seating is pretty limited, so I'd say it's best for a quick lunch or for takeout. read more
