I had major car issues on I-74 and was so relieved to see that Ray Skillman Chevy was just a couple miles away. My car got towed there and had an easy after-hours drop off. The location of Ray Skillman Chevy 20 min from Indy but in a rural area is perfect for folks located on the SE side of Indianapolis. Ray Skillman opens at 7:30am. When I called them exactly at that time, Greg from the service dept had my keys in his hand and was already getting on it. I appreciated the promptness, especially considering this was an emergency situation where I had no prior appointment. Dealerships are known for being pricier than an independent shop but often with more perks and customer service. At Ray Skillman, customer service is certainly the name of the game. When you pull in, they have folks stationed out in the parking lot to answer questions to provide directions. My checkout was quick, and the service dept provided a good explanation of the work performed. I walked in with fast food trash in my hand, and someone immediately pulled a trash can from behind their desk for me. They want to pull your car out front for you and go the extra mile to open the door for you. The service department gave me an initial price quote for 3 main repairs, ended up doing more work than planned, and still kept the price very close to the initial quote. The service dept had good communication and accurate timelines for completion, which was less than 2 days for me. They didn't do a typical car dealer thing of quoting me for 5 additional things that I might need. They simply quoted me for my oil leaks and belt repair which were the immediate issues. I made an additional request to get my spark plugs changed since I was past the recommended mileage, and they completed that request easily. read more

Multiple issues at their service center. The last straw came when I setup an appointment for an oil change that was supposed to take 40 minutes at most and they took an hour longer than they should have plus tried to high pressure me into getting new tires out of the blue when I didn't need them. They refused to make any amends for what happened as I confirmed that they knowingly dragged things out (which also made me late to work) and that new tires weren't needed. Needless to say they lost my business after that and have no plans on giving them another chance unless they finally make serious amends over what happened. read more

I purchased a use Suburban in May. In December while on trip to Minnesota the transmission failed. When the mechanic in Illinois pulled the dip stick he told me it had clear fluid not and not a red fluid which is what the vehicle requires. When I called Ray Skillman I was told they don't check fluids on used cars and told me it didn't have a dip stick. I could have gotten better pre sell service at a fly by night used car dealer. Sales and finance was great. Brent, Ryan, and Chris in finance were all great. As soon as I signed the paperwork everything went down hill. The service department is garbage. Had them send to ziebart for spray in bed liner and paint protection. Truck came back with overspray all over it from rust protection. Sent it back and still had overspray on bottom of doors. Had Skillman tint the windows to match the rears. Ripples all through the center of driver side. I did get a full refund for tint because I was sick of bringing my truck back and forth. Communication is terrible in service I won't be back for any service there that's for sure. No one checks or inspects your vehicle before they call you to come pick it up. Your dedication to customer satisfaction would improve if someone/anyone would inspect the vehicle before handing it back to a customer who then has to bring their vehicle back up there for something that should have been done right the first time. read more

I have been a Ray Skillman customer since 2010 when I purchased my first 2011 Kia Soul at Ray Skillman Westside. It had a manual transmission. After having that almost 5 years I traded it for another Kia Soul this time a 2016 automatic transmission. I happen to be flipping channels and stopped on The Price is Right of all things. The prize at this moment in the show was a 2018 Chevy Trax. I hadn't even heard of a Chevy Trax. The Trax concept came out in 2012 but only in a few countries. It wasn't till 2015 when it came out in the US. I like the AWD and the Premiere is loaded with frankly too much stuff but I wanted the AWD with 18in Wheels so had to go Premiere. My Dad retired from GM after over 30 years so I knew I got the employee discount. Ray Skillman Chevy gave me a great price on my 16 Soul and with the employee discount and rebates my monthly payment went up very little. Kevin Lortz and Dakota Whitmer were very easy to work with. They had to find the Trax I wanted at another dealer and trade something they had on their lot for it. My Trax was driven from a dealer not far from Chicago. They installed my cargo kit and followed my instructions not to put dealer stickers on the car. So far very good experience. I had a bad experience with taking my truck to ray Skillman. I thought my emergency brake was stuck. So took it to RaySkillman, because I thought they were reliable and honest. But my second guess was wrong. I waited 2 hours for an answer and the answer I got was my tires are worn and my brakes are warped which is not true because my brakes were done correctly. All four of them to be exact. My tires are brand new too. I was irritated. I inspected my whole truck and it's wasn't even the e brake. It's was a leaf spring bracket throwing the brakes in a bind. My advice with this company is watch was they say because they could be ripping you of. Update: I already spoke with ray skillman and they act clueless and act like they didn't do anything wrong. I inquired about a 2022 ZL1 and while attentive, the Sales Manager tried to say that the only upcoming day a ZL1 can be ordered happened to be the day I inquired about it. We could not reach a deal on my two trade-ins, with the dealership offering 4k less than my minimum - at the time of this writing, used car prices and demand for them are through the roof and my ask definitely put some instant equity in their pocket. After considering ordering a ZL1 that day because another dealer offered me my price on my two trade-ins, this dealership told me that I had to put down $10,000 (an incredibly egregious deposit) and there was a "market adjustment" on the car, adding $5,000 to the MSRP. I had another dealership price the car out, which ended up right at MSRP, there was no specific date it had to be ordered, and the deposit ended up being $500. I only give two stars because the Sales Manager was attentive and did try to earn my business, but it was at the expense of me losing 4k in trade and 5k in purchase. A very one-sided deal. read more

I brought my truck in for a speed issue truck would not go over 30mph My truck sat for 3/4 weeks being worked on from replacing the gas peddle to calling in a shop foreman to fix mistakes a shop tech had made to them claiming they had to flash my truck with a satellite . After going around and around with ray skillman with what was actually wrong with my truck they said a tech had cut a whole bunch of wires and they were splicing them back and again my software needed update which took another 2-3 days I picked my truck up drove home 1.2 miles from rayskillman . Went out of town for work 7 days . when I came back I started my truck up my lights did not work . I scheduled appointment to get truck looked on a day I didn't have work because last time my truck sat WEEKS at RAY no compensation no discount nothin . I came in today , a day I did not work just for them to turn me down and say they won't fix my truck due to the electric issues i had and all they did was replace two wires (took them 3 weeks for two wires a gas pedal new wiring harance anything they cud part replace to charge me extra I never had any electric issues until they worked on my truck I have all receipts and a lawyer ready to work my case All I wanted AND WANT IS my truck fixed . After not calling with a service total and doing work to my vehicle that did not fix the issue I took it in for I was late on a payment. I made arrangements to pay that upcoming Friday and at 1am on Wednesday by car was towed. I owed $80! Drew threatened to put a tracking devise in my car (over $80)! i had been in constant communication with them, and my car was in my driveway with the keys in it. The loan payoff was only $2000 so paid the loan off to never deal with them again. picked my car up and there was damage to the rear bumper And The INSIDE of my car! I immediately went inside and let Drew Skillman know my car was damaged and he said I couldn't prove it. He then says that he is not responsible for the tow company causing damage. i asked multiple times for the tow company used and he refused to give me any information. I received a phone call 24 hours after talking to a salesman about a vehicle I was interested in that had a deposit on after the deal fell through. I live 75 miles away after asking if it was good if I drove over. He assured me they would be there til 7 and could make a deal if I wanted the vehicle. After I was on my way he called to tell me that there is a 7k demand increase on the vehicle I was purchasing on top of the msrp price. I told him my husband said absolutely not, I'm not paying more for a vehicle then it's worth. Also assured me they accept the gm employee discount which is 10% off msrp. Drove all the way there for them to tell me they will only do 5% off employee discount and they are giving me 7k less on my trade in then it's worth. No dealing with me or trying to meet in the middle. So I walked out very unhappy and lied to! I recommend not doing business with these people if at all possible, they are crooks! read more

It was coincidentally just out of warranty when I bought it & I thought being certified pre owned it would have mattered. Guess not. The day of the test drive and sale, May 24th, the check engine light was on.  They service department diagnosed it with an issue with the turbo.  They said that it was under warranty.  I had already spent 4 hours at the dealership, so they scheduled me to bring the car in on June 4th. They had told me that they would have a loaner for me on that day.  So, i showed up at service that morning at 7:30, before work, only to find out there was no loaner available.  The service guy said that if I came back on the following Tuesday he guaranteed that they would have a loaner.  So, I go back that Tuesday at 7:30 a.m. and again they had no loaner.  But not only that, they didn't even have me on the schedule for service.  I was very upset and spoke with Tyler on the phone that day who said that the manager he spoke with told him to tell me that as soon as they got a loaner in , they would bring it to me and take the car for the service. The next day (June 9th) at 4 pm at my place of employment I tried to start the car and it wouldn't start.  I called the dealership and they happened to have a loaner in at that time and they promised it to me.  But never offered to bring it to me as they had previously.  It was "if you can try to get someone to jumpstart it" then take it to them. Which meant that I had to leave work early and ask a co-worker to jumpstart it.  They had the car for an entire week.  I had tried on that Saturday and again on the following Monday to talk to someone in service to at least get an update and had to leave messages which no one returned.  Finally on Wednesday I was calling again and they told me that my car was ready and I picked it up after work. Now, the sales person Rick, on the day that I bought the car promised me floor mats and he said that I should have them when I got my car back and that was stated a couple of times during my contact with him regarding getting my car serviced in the first place.  But I still don't have them.  He has not bothered to reach out to me to follow up on his word. Now, the finance guy, Daniel...on the day that I did the paperwork, he told me that with this finance company, Prestige Financial, it was required to get on a biweekly payment schedule which would have to come directly out of my account.  He also stated that in 2 weeks they would be taking out a full payment so that I would be ahead one payment.  I told him that, that was kind of a surprise that I wasn't counting on, basically 2 payments within a 30 day period was too much.  So, he set it for June 11th.  During the week before that payment was going to be due, i received a call from Prestige Financial to finish up with the documentation.  They told me that my payment was not due until June 24 and that they did not require the extra payment nor the biweekly direct payment from my account.  They also needed my insurance information, stating that the finance department at Ray Skillman had not provided it, along with some other personal info that I had already provided to Daniel. So, on 6/11 I see that $547 was pending to come out of my account, and I was very confused and upset.  I called the finance company and they told me that the Autopay Plus was a third part payment company and that it was not required to go through them for my loan.  So, still upset, I called Daniel and told him to cancel that Autopay Plus because there is no sense in paying processing fees to a third party.  They were just making extra money off of me.  That weekend i got an email from Autopay Plus stating that they needed my loan account number in order to start making the biweekly payments.  On Monday I called Autopay Plus and found out that it had not yet been cancelled and I had to cancel it myself.  And during that phone call they advised me about this $300 membership or some such, whatever they call it, which angered me because that was just robbery for something that I didn't even want. I was outraged that that was never even told to me.  And mind you, initially when I called Daniel to discuss this with him and cancel it.  He said that he had told me that they were a 3rd party, which he may have but. he told me that it was REQUIRED which he tried to deny. So, to wrap this up, I have been extremely upset and stressed throughout this whole process.  The previous vehicle that I had, I had bought from a Ray Skillman on the West side and I did not have problem one with them or the vehicle.  I had expected the same from this location.  The service department offered me 2 free oil changes for my inconvenience, which I will absolutely use.  But I have not gotten the floor mats. read more

This by far has to be the worst place for customer service. I bought a 2017 Suburban from here. I had it 2 weeks and the check engine light came on. Took it in for diagnosis and was told the transmission was coming apart. I did buy it as is and even if I had purchased an extended warranty I was told I could not have used it because I had not had the vehicle for 30 days. So now having the car for only 2 weeks I was told I would have to replace the transmission at my expense. This was going to cost me $3900.00. They told me they were giving me a break on the price. They were breaking me alright. I had no choice here. I had paid for the vehicle and if I didn't fix it I was going to be sitting on the side of the road. All of this after only having possession of the vehicle for 2 weeks. I deal with customer service everyday and everyone at this dealership could use some training in it. This should have been covered. The most I should have had to pay for is the labor. You are a large company and if you can't take care of something like this you have problems. This wasn't the first car I had bought from Ray Skillman. Although I am pretty sure it will be the last. A response to this post would be nice with some results. If not, this is just Part 1. I will name names of the people I have dealt with here that won't stand behind their sale in the next post. I will also share this review and any others with as many social media outlets as possible. Rick Fort was your sales person, Dexter Haynes was the manager that worked with lowering the service bill from $5,000 to $3,900. Nick Smith was the service advisor and Jonathan Skillman spoke to your wife and Ok'd us to refund the shop supplies, fluids and materials back to you. The suburban you purchased was out of the mileage constraints we have for our certified used cars. Due to the high mileage on the vehicle that car was marked wholesale and slated to go to the auction. We do sell auction cars at auction prices but have many forms to be fully transparent about those vehicles. You had reached out to Rick Fort through the internet about purchasing the Suburban, came to our location, inspected the vehicle, and drove it. You then proceeded to sign four different forms stating that the vehicle had not been inspected by us and that will need repairs and was being sold AS IS. Two of the forms are on brightly colored paper, neon blue and bright red.They're this color so we can avoid issues such as these. You were then offered an extended warranty in our finance office which was declined and you signed a warranty decline sheet that was time stamped and dated. I understand that you only had the car for two weeks and 2,000 miles, and while that's not a situation we would be happy with. That is why we discounted your service bill 20% and didn't charge for supplies or fluids. But doing the work for free would not make sense. Why would we have all those forms signed explaining the car is AS IS and needs repairs and then turn around and fix it for free labor? Those bright forms cannot be upheld for some customers and not to others. We are sorry that you are unhappy with our customer service; we strive to do our best and work on it every day. Ray Skillman Chevrolet Wow!! You guys are really good at writing you own negative reviews. First thing is Rick Fort never once mentioned that this car was going to auction. In fact he pressured us to get in there as soon as possible because several people were looking at this vehicle. This is the first I ever heard of it going to auction . What a way to come up with more excuses. Furthermore I could care less what color the paper was this car should not have broke down in less than 2 weeks. I will never do business with the Skillman family again. Ryan Carvor (team lead) and Jonathan Skillman approved me on a new car with 1000 down and a trade in on my lease. A month later they tell me I'm no longer approved for my loan. They wanted the car back. Brought the car back to the dealership and sat there for 30 minutes without any help talked to someone at the front desk they told me someone would be with me soon. I waited another 15 mins and walked out. I made them come pick up the car from my work. Asked Ryan Carvor when I would get my 1000 dollars I put down on the car back and he told me "I don't think you put money down on the car" I contacted Jonathan Skillman and told me I wasn't getting my money back because I was over my mileage on my truck I leased. I want offered a payment plan. I was told my Jonathan Skillman that he couldn't take a loss because "I have employees to pay" so now I'm out a car and 1000 dollars. And as of next Friday I will no longer have a job because I have to find something closer to my house. It would cost me 50 dollars a day to Uber round trip to work each day and I can't afford that. So Ray Skillman Chevrolet screwed me out of a car and my job!!!! The lack of communication is pathetic. I also had damage under the hood when I got the car a day later then I was supposed to because they had to do their own inspection. If they inspected the car you would think they would have popped the hood and have seen that. I've talked to Heith in financing who ran me around in circles, Ryan Carver who is a snake in the grass and Jonathan Skillman who doesn't seem too have any idea what's going on with his branch but that's what happens when your just given a job because you're daddy's name is on the sign. Took my wife's Equinox in to Ray Skillman Chevrolet get the rear window defogger fixed. Car is under GM warranty. Service said it was not covered and it would be xxxx dollars to fix it. I told them to kiss my ass and took it to Sam Pierce Chevrolet. They fixed it without issue under warranty. Also, had a co worker take his Silverado in there to get an alignment and they told him it would be $2000 to repair the ball joints before they could align it. If I could give this a No Star rating I would. First, let me start by saying that my wife and I are from TN. If we were to walk onto a lot in TN and begin looking at $50-60k brand new trucks, we would be accosted IMMEDIATELY by folks looking to help us without hesitation. We decided to go to Skillman Chevy as it's less than 5 mi from our house. My wife and I are both looking for new vehicles, and were getting excited about shopping. It was a pretty Saturday afternoon, about 3:30pm, and warm and sunny. We parked right up near the front doors, so there was no mistaking anyone inside that we were there. We walked up and down the ENTIRE line of Silverados, then perused the Tahoes. I know a good deal about car manufacturers, so I know that these two specific types of vehicles are exactly where the PROFIT is in Chevy, much like Ford and Ram. My wife and I should have had someone on our butt the moment we walked onto the lot. If I would have visited the lot alone, maybe a few more minutes to have someone come out just to see if I should be taken seriously, but even then, come ON. We may not be your typical customers, my wife and I are both in our early 30s, and both of us look young, but we were going to pay for our vehicle IN CASH. We absolutely HATE it when we go somewhere and get profiled for looking young. Don't assume to know our financial state until you send out a salesman to speak with us. Also worth noting, we know good and well there were plenty of salesmen there, we also know that plenty of people saw us walking around the lot, but not a sole ever came near. We saw plenty of people being assisted in the USED car section, but not the couple that was there looking at their NEW vehicles. There was an overweight salesman hanging out in a golf car by the front doors, staring at us the whole time, but never did he bother to come over or send someone else to even say hi to us. This is a horrible, horrible excuse for a dealership, and we can never recommend anyone to shop here. Take your business elsewhere. We drove across town to the Hubler locations (both Ford and Chevy) on Hwy 31 and were IMMEDIATELY assisted in both locations by very nice people who actually showed an interest in wanting to GAIN OUR BUSINESS. read more

As always great customer service we were in the market for a newer impala Corey in sales found us one we liked it and unfortunately we didn't buy it because it didn't have all the options we were looking for we still had a great experience here and they got us at the numbers we wanted to be at. Spent $1500 on an oil change, front and rear brakes and rotors. Less than a month later, brakes are squeaking so bad. Save your money and go elsewhere. They charge top dollar and use crappy parts. read more

So I drove my car in for service under warranty, they tell me 3 days, they had my car for almost 2 weeks, no one ever called me to keep me informed on what was going on (they put used parts on my car after waiting 2 weeks) , after picking my vehicle up, they have to jump it, tell me to drive it & it should start, the next morning I have to get a jump, they tell me I can pay $180 for a new battery & they will install for free. Yes I have music in my car which has been in for months, they say they didn't do ANYTHING with or to the battery, I go to my trunk where the battery is placed & my trunk isn't even put together correctly where they have taking the spare tire out to get to the battery.
