Avoid Ray Skillman Mazda West Like the Plague I bought a car from Ray Skillman Mazda West in February 2024, and just last week, on 8/12/2024, the oil light came on. I'm not the best at keeping up with car maintenance, but this car was practically brand new to me, so I called my local auto shop right away. The second the technician looked at it, he said it wasn't an oil problem--it was a lifter issue with the engine. And get this: he said problems like this don't just pop up overnight; they've been brewing for months, which means this was an issue long before I ever drove the car off the lot. I went to multiple other technicians, and every single one of them confirmed the same thing. They also told me that Ray Skillman Mazda West had to have known about this problem before they sold me the car. When I called the dealership to address it, I got the runaround--redirected to wrong departments, passed from one person to the next. Finally, I spoke to my sales rep, who couldn't have cared less. No empathy, no responsibility, nothing. They basically shrugged and said, "Not our problem," all because I signed a "sold as is" paper. If you're thinking about buying from Ray Skillman Mazda West, do yourself a favor and don't. They'll sell you a car with serious issues and then wash their hands of it. This place has been a joke since I walked in to get a car, I came in told them exactly how much I wanted to spend. The sales man ran my credit 9 hard inquiry's and for vehicles $4,000 over what I told them I wanted to spend, not to mention I received things in the mail were they ran it for cars I never knew about or gave permission. They added an extended warranty I knew nothing about until I was getting ready to leave, now 2 mths later it saying timing belt is not right I called the dealership and first got told I didn't have a warranty then transferred Barry confirmed I had warranty they scheduled me I'm here at 8am, now being told they can't work on Volkswagen cars, and to take it to Volkswagen and pay out of pocket!! This place is a mess, no communication between workers.now have appt for next week at Volkswagen ****update- Vince - at dealership is covering cost of diagnostic test at Volkswagen shop, ty Left ray Skillman lot got to work and the car started getting real loud oil pressure light is on, called Vince -I believe center manager, he asked me to bring it back and we went to drive it he then took mechanic w/him they cane back and are keeping it also giving me a loaner and they are taking my car Tuesday to Volkswagen for me. My wife bought her car from Ray Skillman West and that was a pleasant hassle free experience overall. However, the service experience has been horrible. First of all, the technician forgot to properly replace the oil drain plug after a routine scheduled oil change. Thankfully no major damage was done as I noticed the large puddle of oil on my garage floor and called my wife to return promptly with the car. They car was towed to the dealership and the problem rectified. The second event happened after the car started making a crackling sound at start up. The dealership diagnosed a faulty driver's speaker and the car was taken inonce the part was ordered. My wife picked up the car and the sound was still there on start up. This is not a subtle sound and is very prominent when the car is started so I wonder it it ever tested. She promptly took the car back in and they rechecked the car and found that the tweeter needed replacement. An oh by the way, they also blow out the factory radio amplifier in the process. So we are now waiting for new speakers and an amplifier. Thank goodness the car is under 1 year old and still under warranty. I think these over sights are unacceptable for any car shop and worse so for a dealershi and I question the integrity and expertise of this dealership's service department read more

I've bought my last five cars from Ray Skillman West. I also always get my car serviced there. I went in for an oil change and they fixed my bumper which I knocked out of place about an inch. They put my bumper back into place without being asked and didn't charge me a dime. They are all very friendly and get me in quick. I highly recommend buying and servicing there. read more

With the cold weather, the air pressure was low on all my tires. After going to a couple gas stations and finding their air pumps not working, I decided to go to Ray Skillman Mazda (where I leased my car) on the chance they could help with my situation. I pulled into the service bay and asked if they had an air hose that I could use to fill up my tires. A very nice young woman said she'd take care of it for me. She proceeded to check and fill all four tires to the proper level. When I asked what I owed, she said "nothing at all, sir". I even tried to give her a tip, but she wouldn't take it. What a refreshing experience! This person made my day by her friendliness and enthusiasm. I've dealt with this dealership for many cars over the years and they proved why I'm such a loyal customer. I came here for a recall on my Mazda, I originally scheduled the appointment online and requested a courtesy car since it say it could take up to 2 hours online. However, when I arrived, I was told that it would only take 45-hour so I waited instead. While I was waiting, I noticed that the dealership was very well maintained and I was offered coffee/water by several of the staff. During my wait, a team member also let me know that another recall was available and offered to go ahead and fix it so I really appreciated that since that meant I wouldn't have to come back another time. I ended up getting both recall issues fixed in 2 hours. read more

I had my mazda towed here, I admit it was in bad shape. After they fixed it, I told my rep the very same day I picked it up that it was stuttering. She told me that it had to have time to catch up with itself. I returned the next morning as my oil change light was still on, no sticker indicating one was done and the tire button was not reset after getting new tires. I mentioned the stuttering again and was told the same thing. Fast forward 10 days it is happening, but worse. I spoke with Jayla, my rep, and was told there was no openings until next week after she consulted with her manager. I asked if they could squeeze me in as it seems the spark plugs are causing it, which were replaced by them and I spent over 3900 dollars on everything I was told I needed. Customer service is not what it used to be, highly disappointed that someone couldn't just check to see if the spark plugs were in correctly. I appreciate all the work they did, but, I paid for it. When it comes to cars I know mine has four wheels, is an automatic, 4 cylinder and gets roughly 32 mpg. But that is about the extent of my knowledge. I looked at my service manual and noted, though that it was time for a tune up and some maintenance. The team at Mazda was friendly and very helpful over the phone- setting me up for an appointment the very next day. I arrived they showed me to coffee, cookies and a large and comfortable waiting area- with wifi (if amazes me that some service centers don't have it). Seriously this is the only car dealer I would recommend after we have visited just about every single dealer in the area looking for a new car to lease. The people there seem very trustworthy and will even suggest other locations than theirs if they think a different car will suit you better. We ended up leasing out new Mazda3 from them, it literally had 5 miles on it. We got an amazing deal, they really pushed themselves to accomodate our budget and desires! They even let us take it home overnight and think about it before we bought it. We worked with another dealership that was also Ray Skillman, and the salesperson there brought us over here when we described the price and style we wanted... so I think any of the Ray Skillman people seem to be pretty good to work with. Our salesperson was named Harrison Brown, and if you can work with him I really recommend it. This review is only targeted towards the service/parts department as I have dealt with them only and didn't have the chance to deal with the sales department. I first visited this Mazda service department in 2010 and dealt with the amazing James Stephens, he always took care of all my concerns regarding my Mazda 6, the car came out amazing, he explained in detail regarding my repairs and answered thoroughly all my questions. Very polite and pleasant person. I sold my Mazda 6 many years ago, so I didn't need to visit the service department again, until I recently bought another Mazda 6. I went there asking about the car's transmission service and the underbody guard that goes under the engine. I met Jeff Hodge and despite that I didn't bring the car, I asked him about the underbody guard and the transmission, lo and behold, he was super helpful in answering all my questions, he took me to the parts department to search for the plastic underbody guard, he explained in detailed the flushing process of the transmission, answered all my questions and concerned. The service department has the utmost customer service for many years and the best prices too. I highly recommend them and I will continue to visit them for my car's needs despite that I live all the way in Noblesville. read more

I brought my Mitsubishi Outlander to this location for brake replacements last week. After the inspection I was told it also needed new transmission fluid-- okay, no problem. I pick it up on Monday and by Monday evening am having serious transmission issues. Up until my work with them, I had never experienced any kind of transmission issue. They're telling me I won't have my car back until sometime next week because one of their techs is out sick. They also refuse to provide me with a rental in the meantime. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this auto mall surely has someone else that can work on my car in the meantime. This is seriously poor customer service. If I wasn't required to keep my car there to be fixed due to their negligence, I would absolutely have it towed elsewhere. read more

Shout out to the great, caring staff at Ray Skillman Mazda West. Bought a used car with my daughter who lives in Chicago on Wed. afternoon and they treated her super. That night a challenge happened with the rear brake and we had to get it fixed on Friday. Let the dealership know. They cared and they had her come in on Saturday for them to go over the car before she went back to Chicago. They went above and beyond, replaced normal wear and tear items, and did a 30K service program at no cost to her. We could not have been happier with how they took care of everything. I would never buy a vehicle from this dealer. We were interested in a used vehicle they have with pictures on line that showed no damage to the vehicle at least on 3 sides they showed . It was very deceiving only showing the sides , front, drivers side and back that had been cleaned up and prepped for this 3 sided photo shoot . The Vehicle report from dealer , not a Carfax , stated car had never been in an accident. We drove 1 hour to look at it. The car had side damage on entire passenger side front to back. It Looked like it had been side swiped. When we showed zero interest in this car the salesman said he had others in this price range and my husband said to take us back to the car and my husband told him he wouldn't deal with them now . We bought cars from Ray Skillman twice.. the second time we bought a "Certified" pre-owned Mazda5. However, it turns out they didn't actually Certify it completely. Now, less than 12,000 miles and less than 1 year into owning it, over a thousand dollars in repairs and items on the certification list were totally missed (i.e. matching tires... pretty elementary stuff). Also Our salesman told us first 12 years 12k miles was bumper to bumper-- apparently that was a lie though, we now find out. Worse, they won't do anything to make it right. read more
