Some highlights I'd call out are they have great subcontractors and technicians. The tiling, paint job, electrical... everything was fantastic, and everyone was super easy to work with. We've always had communications / language barriers when working with workers in the past, so it was nice to be able to answer questions or give feedback directly onsite without having to wait for Umid to jump in. I also found Cotfort trustworthy and reasonable. For one, I decided to try an online-only tile company which led to terrible delays to the project (my fault there), and they were patient with reschedules though I know it caused them headaches. They also stepped in to make things right, without hesitation, when their countertop fabricator accidentally installed the wrong floor curb on the shower. Another sign of trustworthiness: I asked them to come back after the work was done to change out one of the accessories in the bathroom... they really had no obligation to but they did anyway. There were definitely some hiccups, like in all projects, but it helped a lot that they were responsive, flexible, and communicative. I never felt like they were trying to nickel and dime us or recommend something outside of our interests.

They installed the cabinets that I sourced from another company (although they also manufacture their own cabinets in-house), and everything was installed to spec with the trim pieces cut perfectly to match. For the countertops, I sourced my own quartzite slabs, and F&L handled the rest. They picked up the slabs, created the templates based on my cabinets, fabricated everything, and completed the installation. The templating team also went above and beyond to make sure my expensive slabs were used as efficiently as possible with virtually nothing wasted. They took the time to help me plan the layout so the veining flowed naturally across the countertops and backsplash, which made a huge difference in the final result. We had a very frustrating experience with this company and unfortunately cannot recommend them…read more What should have been a simple one-day door installation turned into a 13-day project filled with delays, poor communication, workmanship issues, and even a safety concern that left us uncomfortable in our own home and unable to use our infant son's nursery during that time. Timeline of events: Mon 2/16: Workers were scheduled for 9:30am but didn't arrive until after 1pm. They re-measured the frame, left to pick up doors (which we were told would already be ordered), and returned saying they were too large and needed shaving, pushing work to the next day. Tue 2/17: The worker arrived on time, but after installation we noticed cracks in the frame and a large gap between the doors where they barely latched. We reported it immediately and were told Alberto would come Thursday. Thu 2/19: Alberto worked all day and said there were finishing touches for Friday. We weren't thrilled with the result but were willing to move forward just to get our son's nursery functional again. Fri 2/20: Alberto admitted the installation had been done incorrectly and the damaged frame needed to be completely redone because the doors wouldn't work long term. While we appreciated the honesty, this reset the project timeline again. He said he'd return Saturday morning. Sat 2/21: At around 8:50am the appointment was rescheduled to Monday. Mon 2/23: We texted at 8:40am to confirm timing. Our message was read but not answered until 10:30am, and he didn't arrive until around 2pm due to another appointment. Tue 2/24: More frame work and putty were applied with instructions to allow a day to dry. Thu 2/26: Painters arrived as scheduled, but Alberto said he couldn't come until Friday and gave no clear arrival window. Fri 2/27: We asked for an ETA so we could plan around our 4-month-old's nap schedule. We were told 2pm, but the worker showed up at 1:15pm, waking the baby. He also didn't have proper tools and spent about five hours chiseling wood out of the door by hand just to get the bolts to fit. That same day we also experienced a serious safety concern. One worker used a metal circular saw indoors, sending sparks flying inside our home. When we raised concerns, the foreman dismissed it and incorrectly claimed sparks from cutting metal cannot start a fire. This got me mad and I did raise my voice. Instead of accountability, the conversation became defensive, including comments that they were "doing us a favor" fixing work we never requested- work that was only necessary because of the original installation mistakes. Our attempt to speak with Benny, the GC, was also frustrating. He repeatedly talked over us while saying he wanted to ensure we were happy, which felt disingenuous given the lack of listening or accountability. Sun 3/1: Alberto returned but left again for another three-hour stretch before finally coming back to complete the job. Nearly two weeks later, the doors were finally operational. Afterward we were told they were losing money because the project took longer and required redoing work. That is not the customer's responsibility. From day one we simply wanted the job done correctly. Throughout the process there were missed arrival windows, last-minute schedule changes, safety concerns, and little respect for our time or the disruption to our household. We also had to closely monitor workmanship due to frame damage and installation defects. I'm sure the company will respond, but everything described here is accurate and documented. This experience was exhausting and unnecessarily drawn out. If you value clear communication, punctuality, professionalism, and safe work practices done right the first time, I would strongly caution against using this company.

The project was a success from start to finish. I appreciated the customer service and communication from start to finish. Jenny, the protect manager, is excellent at what she does. She also provided honest recommendations and advice when asked. What I also liked is they are a family business and everything was done within their company without dealing with subcontractors. Since I was pleased what how everything went with the kitchen remodel, I used their service for a complete bathroom remodel a few months later. Jenny was very informative and responsive. She answered our questions, both those that related directly to the bathroom but also those relating more generally to remodeling strategies that arose from our inexperience. What do you think of this material? What do you think about this type of sink in this space? What kind of shower design is best for this concern of mine. Etc. I can't recall an instance where Jenny did not immediately and helpfully respond to email or text. Jenny also proactively made good suggestions. The remodel went well. We really liked the result. We were delayed a bit by the city and permits. But Jenny and her team were always patient and committed. In one instance, the city inspector came back with some surprising feedback. But Jenny and her team with due dedication and versatility adeptly executed on the feedback and made the inspector happy. Anyway, it's been about a year after the remodel. A few small issues came up recently. I contacted Jenny and she sent her team to handle without hesitation. The follow through was very impressive. Jenny will be the first person we call when we're ready to remodel the other bathroom.

Good handyman services, but I wouldn't use them again for remodeling…read more I have an older home in San Jose's Rose Garden area, and with all old homes, things from time to time need repair. I have used Case as a handyman for years and the results have generally been quite good. But a few years back I used them for an interior bathroom remodel. The bathroom looked good when it was done, but a few years later when I did a kitchen remodel with a different contractor, they had to do some work on the adjoining bathroom to accommodate new plumbing and electrical for the kitchen. That process uncovered all of the corners that were cut by Case in the bathroom remodel. Plumbing was not routed correctly (which explained why sometimes the shower drain would inexplicably back up), the electrical was not properly grounded, and there were a ton of sloppy fit and finish issues. So again I'd use Case for small things, but for an actual remodel, there are better options out there.
