I love sushi, and I was looking forward to this place cause the reviews say it's good but let me tell you, it's not. I wish I could have taken a better picture but I forgot. The edamame in sea salt was bad, it was cooked in or sprayed in some kind of oily condiment, and it tasted weird. It would have been better just steamed like they do at every other place I've been, and the spider roll had way too much unagi sauce and I didn't feel like it had enough soft shell crab to call it a spider roll, the only decent thing I had this night was the miso soup. Honestly next time I'll just go to Tokyo Garden down the road, that place legit has good food. I came here for my birthday lunch. We were sat quickly, which was nice. We came for the happy hour, seeing as regular prices are pretty steep and it was our first time. Start with the basics seemed like a great idea, right? WRONG. The ambiance gave the illusion that the food would match the prices. We were brought out the sloppiest looking rolls we've ever had. Some pieces much bigger than others, falling apart, and overall just not great quality. For the prices they charge normally, I'm glad we only had the happy hour menu. The service was also just okay. We weren't really checked on until plates were ready to be taken away. Meanwhile we watched other tables get prompt consistent attention. Perhaps it was the fact we were 2 of the only POC? The only other POC were sat directly behind us and actually spoke up about their food. Wish we had, we also work in the industry and understand it can always just be an off day. However, it seems it was a consistent issue. We were just visiting Redding for the weekend, and so excited to try this place out,as it came highly recommended through social media. Food was fantastic! We ordered tempura, a bowl with rice and raw fish, sea bass poached in a delicious broth. All were delicious and tasted very fresh. The tempura batter was so light--best tempura I've had and the brothy sea bass made me yearn for the next time I would order this! Finally made it in here! And sure enough the hype is real, Dinner was great. Decided to have date night here with my girlfriend and got to watch the first half of the finals while enjoying amazing food. We were seated in a nice round booth seat near the bar. Inside is welcoming with good lighting as well as plants throughout the restaurant. Our waitress was nice and attentive and was able to get in our drink orders and appetizer order in right before happy hour ended so that was perfect! The nigiri sampler was great to try all the different types of fish by themselves. The Raw roll was my choice and it was amazing. My better half ordered the dragonfly roll which was also great, but a little too much cream cheese for my liking. We got 3 rolls, nigiri platter, 2 beers and a cocktail. All for $100 before tip. I feel like that's a decent price for the amount of food you get (the rolls are huge) as well as the experience and food quality. I would come again but maybe ask for a booth instead of near the busy sushi bar. The loud music was a bit much. The happy hour menu was really great. The maguro nigiri especially good and a great value. The sake very good but I thought they missed an opportunity to have sake cocktails instead of just the standard bar fare. From the Sushi menu the Golden Monkey was terrific (love that citrus finish) but the Tsunami roll had too much sauce to taste the tuna and shrimp. The squid salad was new to me and delicious. All-in-all, I enjoyed my meal and hope to come back again soon to try more rolls. read more

I have been waiting to go and I finally went last night. I was surprised to how big it was inside. The food I ordered was nothing spectacular and our waiter was sub par by just checking on us as he delivered our food. The restaurant itself did give night club vibes and I wasn't the biggest fan. The menus seemed dirty and it just didn't seem as "luxurious" as it is advertised. The worst part of the whole experience was my boyfriend throwing up for 10 hours straight due to food poisoning. The only thing we did not share was a shrimp tempura roll, which is what I am guessing was the culprit. Luckily, I didn't eat any of the sushi but I don't think I'll be returning anytime soon. Suggestions would be: order more staff that make the restaurant look better & professional. Clean better (several times a day). I've heard similar things about Rose, another restaurant by the same owner & I think I will continue to eat other places. I love the owners vision but it just needs to be executed better. read more

Went a couple weeks ago on a Saturday evening and the wait was about 45 minutes which is totally understandable so we sat at the bar. We knew service wouldn't be 100% because it's the bar area but never expected it to be as bad as it was. Every single employee in the bar area was more focused on their drunk employees off the clock and friends and decided to completely turn off the lights in the bar area to the point I couldn't even see what I was eating and it was only 8:30pm. I ordered the same thing as the drunk guy sitting a few seats down from me but ordered mine without something and the drunk guy got my food so had to wait for a replacement which by time I got my food my fiancé was done eating is meal. Not only did they not give any discount for the mistake we were charged twice on our bill for it luckily I caught it. We were really excited to try this place and by time we left we were talking about how we would never go again it was really disappointing. I went there on Friday July 12th with my wife (Date night). We got menus and drinks right away. 2 bottles of Stella, pretty easy. My wife wanted sushi so she order a hand roll. I ordered the barbecued chicken noodle stir fry. after a half hour or so the waiter came by to say sorry for the delay. The delay had to do with the noodles ??? Did we want the hand roll since it was ready and waiting in the window already. Okay give us the roll. Another half hour later we got the stir fry. The sauce on the chicken stir fry was beef based. (better than bullion?) nothing better than chicken that tastes like a cow. We might have had a nice conversation while we waited but the place is very noisy. worse than a pizza parlor full of middle schoolers. over 2 hours in this place. The last 45 min or so trying to get the check. The waiter was very good but he was helpless. We went home and made some food. WE should have driven through in N out on the way home. read more

Both times they seemed understaffed, and yet I see employees walking around empty handed, not making eye contact and not friendly. We had to flag down people for things we wanted , and maybe saw our waiter four times. No check back on us, had to ask for a napkin. Waited forever for a beer. Food came up at several different times, one sushi roll when we were actually done. Not sure what was going on. So enjoy the food because it is exceptional, but be prepared for lousy service.
