I also really liked that the people at 1st Ave weren't pushy like at they were at some of the other companies. They came though with all they promised to do - called me when they were on the way to the job site, installed everything so all cabinets and drawers lined up and worked flawlessly, cut the quartz offsite and came back to install countertops, and cleaned up after themselves. I have been recommending them to friends and neighbours, and I would most definitely use them again.

I go into their store, select the slab I want, give them the specs, and pay for my stone countertop. I'm told that they will try to get it done for me by the end of the week. They use the word "try" because it's a short week (being the July 4th weekend.) I do understand when they tell me they're too busy that week, but they'll get it for me as quickly the following week as possible. When the following week arrives, I'm then told that it won't be ready until Friday. I very patiently explain that I live out on the Hood Canal, and that Friday is the worst possible day to navigate back and forth from the Hood Canal. I then leave two or three messages for Casey (the point guy as far as preparing my order is concerned.) Naturally, I am wanting to move things up a day or two, but Casey does not return any of my calls. I'm then told once again that my order is scheduled to be done on Friday. I tell the fellow on the phone that I will be in either Monday or Tuesday to collect it, as Friday is a nightmare for Seattle/Hood Canal traffic. When I arrive on Tuesday, I am greeted by a gentleman who immediately complains that everyone wants to pick up their order on the same day and at the same time. He then informs me that I was supposed to pick it up on Friday, as that was what I said I was going to do. As I really wasn't looking for an argument, I simply told this fellow that his version of the story wasn't really accurate. He then argues with me before helping me load the material into my SUV. Please note that it was only a 27" x 25" piece, and no special material handling equipment was necessary. He simply had to pick it up off a table and slide it into my vehicle. Took about two minutes (if that.) Now, why he had to carry on about me not picking it up when I supposedly said I would, (which of course wasn't the case,) and trying to make me feel bad is anyone's guess. What he succeeded in doing was making me feel bad that I picked Stone World to deal with. For my part, I simply told him "All's well that ends well." I didn't come into his store with a chip on my shoulder demanding why he didn't have it ready for me in a timely manner, or asking for an apology that nobody called me back. What was the point in telling me I was a bad customer. If he was trying to convince me never to shop for stone at Stone World anymore, then that's exactly what he accomplished. By the by, never even got a thank you on that day for my business.

My kitchen will quite frankly never be the same and sadly I do not have the money to make it right and they certainly never will. I was told their management would get back to me, and they never bothered responding. I paid to have my old counter top removed. They broke my cabinets; they obviously did not care about that at all. Then they ran into a problem and said we had two choices, return the granite to the store, or shim the granite. Since we were moving in, in two days, my husband, thinking of a small shim, said let us shim it. I don't know about the rest of the world, but I don't think of a shim as something that would be required ALL THEY WAY AROUND EVERY SINGLE Cabinet in the entire kitchen, almost 1 inch tall. So what we ended up with, was raw wood under my granite that was highly visible and did not match the wood of my cabinets. And of course in places, broken cabinet tops showing. I said I would like things fixed, please, gave them every chance, but nope, they moved on and just considered my "project" done to them, and me now stuck with a crappy granite install that looks horrible. I even offered, if you could just come by and put in some trim to match my cabinets, that would at least help and they said, nope we are going to charge you 700.00 to do that. So much for their customer service. They will tell you they value their 5-star reviews, but the reality is, they don't care at all, they are there to make a buck at your expense. I paid more for their services thinking that I would get better service, don't be fooled. As I was having a lot done to my house at the time, another contractor came in and literally gasped and said WTF. Yeah, not pretty.

William and Wayne were absolutely delightful to work with every step of the way. We appreciated that they both had a sense of humor and that they balance each other well, both with respect to personality and taste. Seems like a small thing, but when you and your husband are squabbling about whether you want a 29" sink or a 31" sink, it's nice to have others in the room who can offer more objective pros and cons for whatever options you're torn between. Because they've worked with so many different clients and because they have such different personal tastes, they were great at respecting my husband and I's taste, and helping us to find "exactly what we wanted but didn't know how to look for." I never felt like we were being pushed away from our personal aesthetic, but they were excellent at steering us towards options that would look good with the rest of the design and with the existing character of our house. They also excelled at "crisis management," which was much needed given my worry-wart personality. When something was going "wrong" at the house, or when I decided for the sixth time that the backsplash we'd chosen just really wasn't what I wanted, William and Wayne were great at talking me through the situation and making sure I was feeling comfortable and in control again (or, if not in control, then at least back to a place of calm). Not an easy task! William & Wayne were really helpful in walking us through the stages of the remodel: which decisions need to be made in what order, how long do we have to make certain decisions before we need to place an order in order to stay on schedule, etc. We got a lot of value for the small design fee we paid - their business is set up so that they make money on the cabinet and countertop purchase, not the design fee. That made me feel good that they were never trying to up-sell us on the fixtures, accents, or extras, and that we weren't going to be charged for changing our mind. Our William & Wayne remodel was not "cheap" - our finished product definitely looks, feels, and was priced like quality. That being said, they were transparent about prices and made sure to help us stay on budget when we were choosing our tile, backsplash, and fixtures; and they have good industry connections that offered us a cost savings on those purchases as well. Though I absolutely love the cabinets we got, their showroom is too small to show you all the different available options and what they look like in person; and the Wood Mode website is hard to use to figure out what your options are. Definitely take the time to talk through your needs and budget so you can be sure you're getting the best corner cabinet for you, etc. They would likely choose really great options even without that, but I'm not the type to feel comfortable placing an order for cabinets without asking a lot of questions about "what's in every drawer", so to speak. We also recommend double checking decisions/plans/purchase lists regularly along the way. I'm a detail oriented list maker, and there were times when we'd find newly added details missing on the revised set of plans. That's not a big deal if you know to check for it, but if you're hiring a designer so "you don't have to" you might want to go with a more Type A personality that will double and triple check everything for you.
