Mark is an amazing contractor and person. He truly treats your house project as if it is his home. Mark is honest and will make sure you know all of your options. We had a basement remodel for our 1950s home that required many different moving parts (demo, electrical, plumbing, shower addition, oil to gas furnace replacement, framing out new walls, etc.). Mark talked us through everything and was very upfront about possibilities when you start opening up this old of a home. He worked with us on purchasing of materials to help us get exactly what we wanted and to save money. Mark did a great job with our master bath remodel. This was not an easy project - the entire space was re-configured, the original plumbing was in worse shape than we thought and had to be replaced, and we wound up also remodeling a guest bathroom to leverage the plumbing work. I have worked with Mark on 2 separate projects - both of them bathroom-related. Mark took time to understand up-front what we were looking of. He made recommendations but will also worked hard to incorporate specific requirements we had - however awkward we were! Mark assembled a great contract team and the final results were of high-to-outstanding quality. Our first project had a number of gotchas that Mark took in his stride. Like the other customer references, I can commend Mark's great communication and his efforts to keep us in the picture at all stages of the project. Our second project hit an issue that resulted in a leak, discovered a 7pm at night. One call to Mark and he had given me instructions on how to isolate the leak immediately, within 2 hours he'd got hold of his team of plumber, tiler and dry wall specialist and had co-ordinated them to be on site to resolve first thing the next morning. By the time I got home from work, you'd never have known there had ever been a problem! I can thoroughly recommend Mark. He has a great work ethic, cares about delivering a quality result. I needed a small job done on our 1970's era rambler Seattle rental property, just a flat deck out in the back yard. The one that was there was pretty low to the ground and had been rotting quickly over the last few years. I had called around a bit and didn't like the quotes I was getting and the time frame was a little far out time wise. Anyway, to make a long story short, Mark did a great quality job and within quoted budget. There was no mess afterward and it was done quickly as well. My only complaint, if you want to call it that, is that the job wasn't a big payout for him. Still, just the fact that the small jobs are done with as much care and respect as the big ones, make it worth while to me. I will definitely be hiring Lion Construction again as soon as I need to! read more

Knowledgeable, thorough, honest, great communicator. Solid construction and great craftmanship. Clean job site. We needed to expand the kids bedroom by removing the wall between their room and a large under-eave storage room in our 1929 tudor. Of all the contractors that gave estimates, Mark was the ONLY one that said that the only way to know if it was a supporting wall is to get into the wall and ceiling to see. I told him I was trying to be budget-conscious and that I'd do some of the demo before the job would start. In the most tactful way he told me he can work with that, but it makes him nervous because sometimes homeowners don't get the demo done in time for the scheduled job start. In that one conversation, I knew that they were the company I wanted to work with! He didn't swear up and down that is was or wasn't a supporting wall, he said the only thing that could make sense - that we just didn't have enough info to know yet. As well, it was clear that when he makes a schedule he does his best to stick to it and that we'd be working in partnership. As my kids would have to move out of the room for that kind of construction, Mark came up with a plan to get the work done as fast as possible. He was spot on with the rough estimate for both cost and duration of the job. As well, the job site and the pathway thought the house for materials was clean - EVERY DAY. He was meticulous about the the work and about making it as easy as possible to live in the house while the project was underway. As the project unfolded, Mark did a great job keeping me informed of any issues they were working through, what was completed each day, and what would would be tackled next. From our earlier conversations he had a good sense of our drivers - safety, speed, cost, and finished project. Whenever there were decisions to be made, he would review with us the pros and cons of the options, with special focus on what was important to us. My kids LOVE their new space that actually fits both their beds, and I love knowing that it was solidly built and looks beautiful! read more

I live in Portland but have a rental home in the Ballard neighborhood in Seattle. The house is a three bedroom craftsman that needed a lot of updating and repairs. Ultimately, I wanted to remodel the master bath by getting rid of the tub and having a custom glassed in shower put in it's place. I also needed numerous hardwoods refinished, new moldings and trim, doors replaced, and tile for the bathroom and kitchen. In addition, there was a lot of rot on the outside under the siding and the whole outside needed paint. I made some calls to contractors in Seattle but didn't feel comfortable with any of them until I talked with Mark from Lion Construction. He was extremely personable and knowledgeable and didn't come off like a salesman, unlike some of the other contractors I'd called. We made plans for me to come down on a weekend and go over the entire project. Mark had some great money saving ideas as well as creative ideas on how to get the maximum use out of space. He presented the bid within two weeks and I signed the contract. Not living in Seattle, I had to put a lot of trust into Mark and his subcontractors. He knew I was nervous and sent me daily updates, including photos of his progress. When I returned to see the end product, I was thrilled with the quality of the work and the obvious care that was taken to make everything perfect. Mark and his crew did a total gut job on my upstairs bathroom. Given that I live in a 4 story condo (with no elevator), the job was a challenge, to say the least. Quite frankly, I have a masters degree in English but, still cannot find the superlatives to rave about Mark's leadership, integrity, work ethic and dedication to excellence. Mark is, in a word, a perfectionist. Long after other contractors would have called the job "finished", Mark was here touching up, adjusting, perfecting. The team Mark assembled was equally talented from the designer, drywallers, electrician and plumber. All were completely reliable, honest, respectful and, most of all, talented. Mark was a pleasure to work with as he always went above and beyond to work with us to limit the disruption of the project to our day-to-day life while also getting the work done. Mark checked in with us every day at least once to let us know how work was progressing, show us the work completed that day, and ask if we had any questions or concerns. He is friendly and easy to work with, even going out of his way to help keep our children happy and safe when he needed to talk to us or show us the progress that was being made. We trusted that he was always looking out for us and wanted the best results for the project. We first contacted Lion Construction in November of 2014 with regard to a bathroom and laundry room remodel and broke ground on construction April 2015. Work was complete by the middle of May (~6 weeks). Over the course of these 5 months leading up to when we started work, we met with Mark and his subcontractors several times to define the scope of the project. Mark and his experienced team of subcontractors helped us take our general vision for the project, refine it and fill in the details, and ultimately make our vision a reality. Throughout the project we found the advice from Mark and his team to be valuable to help drive our decisions on specific materials, colors, and adherence to a loose theme that helped the end results turn out fantastic. Mark's team was able to help put us in contact with helpful other groups to work through particular details on such things as plumbing design and finishes, paint colors, tile, and fixtures for the room. As challenges were encountered along the way, Mark and his team helped work through them. They were knowledgeable with current building codes, allowing us to bring our plumbing and electrical installations up to code and pass inspection in order to properly permit the work being done. The bid included the costs for the entire project except for tile, plumbing fixtures, cabinets, vanity/sink, mirror, hardware, windows, the shower door, and paint. At the end of the project, the change orders amounted to 14% of the total cost of the project from start to finish including the materials we purchased. The unforeseen elements which increased the total cost of the project were incorrect existing wiring and plumbing, electrical troubleshooting and permitting of our existing electrical panel. Overall, we are thrilled with the results of our bathroom remodel! We appreciate all of their hard work to see it through to the end. Mark stands by his work completely and has taken good care of us at every turn. The positive impact to our day-to-day life at home as a result of our fantastic bathroom and laundry room cannot be understated and we're glad to have had Mark work with us to make it a reality! read more
