We enjoyed working with Bogman Design & Construction on our backyard cottage. Adrain designed the cottage and had many innovative ideas throughout to keep our project as green as possible, and to keep costs down. Adrian is wrapping an epic basement remodel for us. As part of this work, he completed the following: * Demo'd previous basement (incl removing furnace, water heater, ducts, knob-and-tube electrical) * Dug out slab and ~18" of dirt underneath (gaining ~8" of ceiling height in the end) * Lay crushed rock, level with vibration plate * Lay water barrier membrane and insulation * Tie in rebar to the footing and lay rebar for the slab * Install PEX for hydronic heating in floor * New sewer line added, old sewer line terminated * New concrete floor poured * Walls furred out * Insulation in outer walls * Soy-based blow-in (?) insulation in upper half of outer walls * Cut out stem wall in 2 places for new windows * 4 new windows added total * Storage under the stairs added w/custom door * Stairwell trim * New electrical throughout * New plumbing throughout * New PEX for hyrdonic heating in ceiling * water supply lines for laundry and bathroom * New LED-based lighting throughout * In-wall speakers installed * Media center, ethernet, and coax wiring * New gas line and exhaust for the mechanical room * new gas, water supply lines to the second floor for future project * Custom L-shaped corner bench in main room * 2 doors installed for bathroom and office * Custom bookshelf/door to mechanical closet in office * Custom hardwood trim, baseboards throughout This has been a project of epic proportions. It all started out as a simple water-proofing endeavor, as our old, partially finished basement was allowing in rainwater in multiple locations. After interviewing several contractors, we chose Adrian because he recommended the best solution to our problem, not (just) the cheapest. We employed for two starter projects: installing a new external french drain and replacing our foundation (also reviewed on this site). Once these projects completed successfully, we immediately hired Adrian to do a full basement remodel, which is just now wrapping up. We are extremely pleased with the end result. We're actually not quite finished with the project; we still need to install a couple thermostats, which may depend on a future project we have with Adrian. But minor touch-ups aside, the finished project is breathtaking to behold, especially considering what we started with. To call this a remodel is a bit of an understatement. The entire basement was gutted, including removing the 2" slab and digging down ~12-18". We removed the water heater, the furnace, all the old knob-and-tube electrical, and the forced-air ducting. It was replaced with updated plumbing, brand new electrical, and a custom hyrdonic heating solution in the poured concrete floor and also in the basement ceiling, providing radiant heating to the main floor. The basement itself was partitioned into 3 rooms: a main room, an office, and a new bathroom (the bathroom itself will be reviewed separately, but suffice it to say it turned out wonderfully). Beyond the "typical" furring out of the walls, new insulation, new windows, new lighting, etc, he built us a custom L-shaped bench in the corner that also doubles as a storage area, currently holding the kids' toys. I know, right? The other half of the main room is the entertainment space, which now features in-wall speakers, jacks for the subwoofer and coax, and a custom-built shelf with built-in electrical outlets. The office also doubles as a guest room, which includes a closet and a custom built book-shelf which is also a hidden door to the mechanical closet. It's truly a wonder to behold. The trim work throughout is exquisite, and matches the style of our craftsman-style home to a T. If you have an eye for detail, you'll see many ingenious little solutions throughout (e.g., specially-ordered hinges to keep the custom-made door flush to the wall). Adrian was a font of creativity from beginning to end, and the end product shows no small amount of his personality and class. Suffice it to say, the final product is indeed water-proof. It's been ~18 months since Adrian began on the basement, and in that time not one drop of outside water has breached the new walls and floors. read more

Adrian is SUCH a nice guy. We needed to repair an outlet and past electricians told us that it was a challenging fix that would require cutting the wall and cost $$$. I called Adrian and he found time to come over the next day. He fixed it in 2 minutes for so cheap, basically free! And he didn't make me feel stupid for calling about something I could have fixed myself. As others have mentioned, Bogman is my new best friend and we'll go to them for any future home repair/remodeling. read more

My wife, son and I recently bought a funky house on Queen Anne. The home was built in 1917 and through the years modified with what appears as DIY work. I contacted Bogman Company to do a thorough inspection of the wiring and fix and replace where needed. Thankfully most of the wiring was safe and correct but there were a few hazards that needed addressing. I really appreciate the attention to detail in their work. I also appreciated the concern to not preform unnecessary work. I like that Bogman Company does plumbing and is a general contractor. As we examined the electrical we talked about other upgrades and repairs that could be done in areas outside of electrical, as well as great design ideas and Green alternatives. I never felt pressured and I was always asked before any task was preformed. We love our new home and we look forward to Bogman Company working with us toward home appreciation. read more

I recently used the services of the company, owned by Adrian Popescu, to replace defective Kitec pipes in my townhome after some of them burst, flooding the ground floor of the unit. The job was a major one in that it entailed removing and replacing pipes to several heaters on all 4 floors of the unit, including removing and replacing some of the dry wall, repainting the walls several places at the end of the job, etc. Adrian and thhis team did an excellent job, leaving the place looking better than was the case when they started, keeping dust and noise to a minimum and working at times of days and days when we were out of the unit. He and his workers were all very courteous and respectful, and enabled us to continue to live in the unit with minimal disruption during the work, which all told took over a week to complete. In fact, they all went way beyond the call of duty, repairing a defective leaky water supply pipe they found in the refrigerator (when they had to disconnect it as part of the bigger job) and a leaky water spigot in the water heater room. There were no big financial surprises at the end of the job, with the exception of of the fact that taxes on materials and labor were not explicitly included in the original contract estimate--a point that we each had different assumptions around. In the end, I paid the taxes, as it was clear to me this was not a deliberate misrepresentation on the part of Adrian, but an ambiguity that he will correct in future contracts by explicitly stating that the cost estimate does NOT include taxes. I would definitely use Adrian and his company again, and highly recommend them as not only very professional and competent, but quite personable as well. read more

Due to the downturn in the economy, I decided to update my house rather than risk a sale and purchase of a new home. So, I did some research about the best renovations to revitalize an older home and finally decided that a kitchen remodel would be the best thing to do. I wanted to go all out and gut the kitchen, put in a sky light, convert from electric to gas and replace all the appliances. Basically, I wanted to remove everything down to the bare walls. I decided I wanted a neoclassical style kitchen with stainless steel appliances, cherry cabinets, granite counters and dark hardwood floors. I shopped around several different contractors in the area trying to find a good price for the work that I wanted to have done. I was shocked at the 6-figure budgets that some of them came up with and no guarantees about costs and no real design advice provided at all. Then I got a referral from a friend to Adrian and called his company. I got a call back almost immediately and we scheduled an in-home consultation for that same weekend. Adrian came with a small, but professional portfolio of a few other kitchen remodels he had performed in the past. I looked through the portfolio while Adrian looked around. He then asked if I'd like some design suggestions and then gave me some fantastic ideas that I implemented--one of them was truly brilliant (entirely inverting the kitchen and moving a wall to get rid of a little-used closet and increase the kitchen size). When I finally selected Adrian as the contractor of choice, he worked with me closely on every detail, ranging from selection of materials and offering suggestions about which appliances to purchase and why and where to purchase them to get the best deals. His experience with kitchen remodeling was evident based on the recommendations and suggestions that he made--he really understood the look I was going for and knew how to make it come out the way I wanted it and offered suggestions and recommendations about ways to improve the ideas I had--most of which I implemented. The work took a little over a month to complete from start to finish and Adrian and his crew were excellent about working around my schedule and ensuring as little disruption of my normal life as possible--always polite and always on time. I got regular understandable invoices so that I always understood where I was in terms of cost and amazingly the project came in a little under budget. The greatest compliment that I have for Adrian was when I went to refinance my home. The appraiser commented many times during the walk though about the quality of the kitchen and how much it would likely add to the appraisal. Then I got the appraisal and realized that the appraiser was not just blowing smoke--the appraisal came in 30k over what I had expected and had extensive comments about the recent kitchen remodel and photographs. Needless to say the refinance went through without a hitch and now my mortgage payments are lower than they were before and I have brand new first class kitchen. When I decide to remodel the bathrooms, there will be only one choice for me and I'm not going to look any further than Bogman Design and Construction. read more

I was very impressed as to the timely response to my initial phone call and even more impressed how fast he came out to look the job over to give me an estimate.
