We worked with J&M on a bathroom remodel. Bathroom is 5x6 feet and quote was for 6 weeks work and…read more50k. We ended project at 18 weeks and 60k. During our project, the sub-contractors damaged the wall while installing our toilet by drilling through the wall and failing to hook up the toilet correctly so that water was pouring straight into our basement. The sub-contractor did pay for these damages. We had no supply chain issues with our project as we had purchased all the materials ourselves before hand. Our primary issues with working with J&M was that due to the amount of projects they had going on, it felt that unless we were actively saying we were unhappy with progress and calling J&M frequently, there would only be work at our home 1 or 2 days a week. When asking for estimates for components J&M were unable to provide accurate estimates. For example, it was estimated that tiling our shower would take 1 week with 2 people due to the complex design. It ended up taking 3 weeks. This is our only bathroom, so we lived with my parents for several weeks, but I would hesitate to recommend J&M to anyone who doesn't have a flexible timeline. In addition, J&M failed to notify of us of change orders that resulted in an increase of price. These were supposed to be agreed upon mutually before the work was completed, but instead J&M released them after the work was done and were forced to eat the cost. J&M did not provide any options to mitigate this cost even though this was in direct breach of our contract. Ultimately, we are reasonably happy with the final outcome of our bathroom, but extremely unhappy with path to get there. We ended up not asking for several fixes as we were so fed up with the inaccurate timelines and constantly changing estimates. Fixes include 1) bleeding paint on ceiling, 2) missed paint spot, 3) grout on window and tile, 4) miss-cut vanity counter-top, and 5) dip in floor tiling causing one spot to not drain. All in all, J&M has good general contractors, but seem extremely mismanaged in the back of office. If you do work with them, double check all billing multiple times as we found several inaccuracies. Hold J&M to prices and push back on change order process.

Basement remodel that exceeded expectations…read more We are truly amazed at the results, and were thrilled with the entire process, end to end. Tony and his crew were a pleasure to have around and you could tell they were having fun working together. We came into the project with our own ideas, and Tony, his designer and the crew worked with us every step of the way, listening to what was important to us, and suggesting and recommending options, but never in a pushy way. The final result looks identical to the design, if not better. Tony's communication was exceptional, whenever decisions had to be made, or we needed to change or replace materials, it was easy to send texts or to call each other, and we appreciated the attention to detail and level of communication. We would recommend Evergreen Home Remodel and Design to anyone looking to undertake a project. We are using them for an outdoor project and will go to them for everything we need.

I had Scott provide an estimate for a $100k full kitchen remodel. I worked with my own structural…read moreengineer and architect to acquire a permit for removing a load-bearing wall (as Scott said he couldn't manage that portion of the project: "We don't have time right now to do the drawings for the permit. You will need to get someone else to sort that out."), and once I had the permit, Scott sent over a contract. The contract included a clause stating "all claims and disputes between the parties arising out of or related to this Agreement shall be resolved by binding arbitration" which I didn't feel comfortable with. I suggested removing that clause, and Scott insisted on it remaining in the contract as written. I accepted and asked Scott if he would like me to sign electronically or on paper. At that point I didn't hear from him for one week despite multiple emails and phone calls. After a week, he emailed me saying the negotiation (despite my accepting the original contract in the end) was a "big red flag from me and I don't think we can do the job for you." Overall I found this interaction to be incredibly unprofessional, especially since we had been in communication for multiple months and intended to start contraction in just a few weeks.

When our house was smashed by a tree in the 2007 windstorm, we knew who to call to get the repairs done right. With contractors, you definitely get what you pay for, but if you care about work being done really well, on time, and in a period appropriate manner, call Prestige. They are professional, courteous, smart, and treat your property with care. That's right- no one will chain smoke, trail mud through your house, or leave trash all over your yard! I recently had GeRoy Construction do some wood repair work on the fascia board of my house. I…read moreinitially thought the entire board would need to be replaced, but Joe and Rex determined that the wood rot wasn't as prevalent as I had thought, and they recommended repairing, sealing, and giving the wood a good thick paint cover (a considerably less expensive job!). I really appreciated their honesty and found their pricing to be very comparable. They were speedy, very friendly, and cleaned up so that I never knew they were there - except of course for my clean new fascia board. Additionally, I am a real estate agent and have hired GeRoy Construction to handle several handy-man type projects for my clients (again - very thorough, honest, and price competitive.) Have also recommended them to clients/friends to handle bigger remodel projects. Have heard nothing but good things!

They were able to help me drywall my kitchen ceiling and match it to the remainder of the condo; they installed base boards and new door frames for the entire condo; and they removed the mantle and TV area above the fireplace and re-framed it with studs so I could upgrade the TV. Super excited. Their price was super reasonable and they very efficient and clean...I highly recommend them for any home improvement project.

I am writing this update because Jason Lear sent a message to myself and husband, Tom Schabarum…read morestating that we had been maligning him for two years. This is one of his many misrepresentations. I wrote one honest review posted here, on Yelp, and on Angie's List. And now this update. Jason says that his firm repeatedly told us that they told us our ideas were too expensive. That is an out and out lie. We still have the interview questions in which we specifically stated our budget and in which Jason Lear responded in writing that his firm could accomplish doing what we wanted within that budget. We did make suggestions about what we wanted in our house. We also make it clear that we did not know how much items cost and we were depending on experts to let us know that. Well, they let us know after they designed the house. Then expected us to pay again to redesign the house. Jason Lear's firm designed a house that included a green roof and triple pane windows. We had never heard of triple pane windows or a green roof before meeting them so we did not request those expensive items. When we asked to have them removed, we were told that that would be more design cost. Jason Lear's own project manager came to the house two months into the project and asked why we weren't tearing it down because it was too expensive to fix. We learned a very expensive lesson dealing with Batt & Lear.

He was very knowledgeable about the design period of the house, and I liked that he took my concerns about lead and asbestos seriously and carefully explained their process for abatement. The design meetings with Jason, Jan and Holly were fun and they took our feedback constructively. I felt like they really listened to how we used the space. When it came time for the remodel to begin, working with Greg and Wayne and the rest of the construction team was awesome. There was fantastic communication - they answered all questions promptly, provided updates on the schedule, and held weekly meetings with me to cover details and get feedback. They were very considerate about being in the house, cleaning up, asking permission to move things, etc., and they even offered to work around our toddler's nap schedule! I also really appreciated that the whole team hustled to get the project done and finished right on schedule, because I was very pregnant and had a baby due within a week of completing the project. Initially, we had wanted to remodel both our kitchen and bathroom, but it became clear pretty early on that we couldn't afford to do both. Jason was upfront about what both projects would cost, and so we decided just to focus on the kitchen remodel. As other reviews have noted, they are not cheap, but you get what you pay for and the end product was absolutely worth it. The design and construction quality are incredible, and I appreciated that they paid a living wage and worked hard to donate a fair amount of our old kitchen to other homes, as well as make sure elements of our new kitchen were sustainably sourced. Ultimately, we love our new kitchen and wouldn't change a thing. The design fits in perfectly with the rest of the house and we have received endless compliments on it. We would definitely hire Batt + Lear again.
