I was locked out and I called 411 thru AT&T emergency, they gave me a 24/7 mobile locksmith service. A guy came to my apt and said he's going to blow the deadbolt lock at $200. Oh my, that's a total rip-off !!! Of course we couldn't make a deal and later I found my lock is glued and damaged. Oh my......that xxxx locksmith at AT&T 411 (btw, his # is 206-325-3845), take my word - don't call them near the seattle downtown area. Out of desperation, I found Howard's info on Yelp. He told me my lock was picked and glued as I suspected. Luckily Howard fixed it in 20 mins and charge me reasonably for his great service. I agree with all the comments - Howard is awesome and very helpful, he even taught me the trick in case I ever run into a lockout or lost my key. Howard is not only a fantastic locksmith, but quite a gentleman. My husband and I brought an old lock to him for repair after I messed up the pins trying to fix it myself and ended up getting a brand new Schlage lock for less than it would cost to fix the original. Howard took the time to explain exactly how to install (it's always easier taking things apart than putting them back together) and made sure I was aware of the common mistakes in installing new locks I might encounter, stopping to draw a picture out of the assembly. He also made sure to educate us to scam locksmiths, including one that lists their business with the same name as his, but plural. So caveat emptor, y'all. I wanted to put a high security deadbolt (Mul-T-Lock) on my door, so I looked on Yelp, avoiding locksmiths with generic names and fake local addresses. I looked for locksmiths with more than a few 4 and 5 star reviews, written by yelpers who have written a reasonable number of reviews. I found Ravenna because I widened my search area to Seattle, not just Ballard (enter "Seattle", instead of a more location specific ZIP code). I called Howard to ask how much he charged for installing a lock. His price was a little less than what I have heard and he did not gouge the price when I told him that it was a high security lock. At least two locksmiths that I called added $15 to $20 to the labor cost after they heard the lock was high security. The installation is the same, but perhaps they infer that you could afford a higher price. Howard did the job quickly. I recommend him highly because he does a good job, charges a bit less, and he doesn't change the price after arriving or after doing the work. Howard told me that he is a mobile locksmith who can service a pretty geographically wide radius of customers. You can always call to ask if he can come to your location even if you are some distance away from Seattle. read more

Howard's great. I snapped a key off in my deadbolt and in tinkering to see if I could extract it ended up with springs and metal slugs flying out like an exploding cigar. Went to Howard on a Saturday morning and he let me watch him replace all the bits and reassemble the lock so I understood how it all worked. He also gave me sage advice on how to reinstall the bolt into my mortise lock. $20, including a new key. You need to patronize this guy. He's great. read more

I contacted a large number of locksmiths to have copies of our new high-security mailbox keys made after learning the job was too difficult for Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace Hardware, and other hardware stores to handle. The mailbox manufacturer refused to provide the actual part number of their key blanks so that they could monopolize blank sales. Howard was the only locksmith I contacted who went to the trouble to track down the part number of the considerably cheaper standard key blanks that my mailbox manufacturer had knocked off. Once I arrived with the originals and he could look at them in person, he discovered my mailbox manufacturer had shortened their blank design by 2 mm (again, to monopolize blank sales). I came to him in order to save on the service fee, so he wasn't able to test the keys. As he had warned me might be possible, the copies didn't work at first because of the 2 mm discrepancy, so I brought them back, and he trimmed the tips of the keys for free.
