Andy was fast, friendly, and offered a fair price for the service. He was at my place within 15 minutes and changed the locks quickly in his truck. He also gave me some great tips on keeping my apartment more secure. I got the impression he truly cared about my safety. My experience with Andy: I had to change my locks last May in the middle of the night after a pretty horrible break up. I called another locksmith company (Maple Leaf) who came and changed my locks. A few months later, I found myself short one housekey. Not sure where it went, I decided it would be in my best interest to change the locks again. The day after researching locksmiths, I received a call from the guy at Maple Leaf, asking about my lock plate, or something along those lines, because my neighbor wanted one like it. While I had planned on going back to him, this phone call really weirded me out because he never worked on my lock plate and none of my neighbors should know about it because they haven't been to my apartment (that I know of). I called Andy at Advantage Locksmith. He showed up quickly, changed my lock, made my keys and gave me some tips to better secure my home. I asked him if he knew the guy at Maple Leaf. He said yes and I told him what happened. He was really sweet and called the other locksmith to figure out exactly what was going on. When the other locksmith told Andy he hadn't called me, Andy verified the number from my phone to make sure it was the other locksmith (Bjorn) when all of a sudden he remembered calling me and had just gotten the customers confused. It was very kind and I could tell that his concern for me and my discomfort was genuine. I also appreciate that Andy explained he won't have my receipts after the end of the fiscal quarter, so he would have no way to contact me, as they go to his accountant. We recently bought a house and I got paranoid about our lock situation. After doing some research on yelp, I narrowed down the field to three people. Andy was the last person I called and he had the best price outright (the other guy was willing to match price, so it was a real toss-up who we went with in the end, but I just picked Andy because he already was the best price). I called him on a weekday while we were at home waiting on some deliveries. I was waffling on admitting just WHEN I wanted him to come over (like, now). So finally he asks me when I wanted him over. I said: Now. He said: Okay. He shows up SEVEN MINUTES later. Seven!! I checked my call history when he knocked on our door. We caught each other at a great time, he didn't have an appointment until later in the day and I wanted someone now. :) I showed him the doors and explained what we wanted. Then I kind of followed him around, chatting about locks and whatnot. He noticed some things about our place and locks, which was very useful and important! I had to leave to juggle a few other delivery people, and left Andy to his business. Whenever he came up against something (like he noticed a plastic screw instead of a real metal one), he would tell us about it. He noticed that none of the keys we had opened a pair of locks, so we were truly bummed..but then he went to his van for a while and found a key that worked and was able to fix the lock that way. He also found a replacement metal screw for the wimpy plastic one and just fit that right in. He was here about 2hrs, gave us a bunch of great info, was a nice guy, and extremely helpful. Funny thing is, one of our delivery guys recognized Andy when he helped his friend. Small world! Got locked out of bedroom door - tried paper clips/tweezers/plastic slider could not get it open. Called about 7 local locksmiths, on a Saturday around 12:30pm, only Andy answered his own phone and was available within 2 hours. Such a relief. Came over, very reasonable price to unlock door, very calm nice guy. He picked the lock. Highly recommended as the first locksmith you should call in any key emergency! Update: I have used 2 other locksmiths to open the same locks since then, only when Andy wasn't immediately available, and while they got the job done, they cost 2-3 times as much and just weren't as cool as Andy. Thanks again, Yelp! When looking to rekey my new home, I searched online and called several of the top reviewed companies. Andy's estimate over the phone was on par with others' estimates, but I chose him because of his friendly demeanor and the other reviews about how knowledgeable and professional he was on here. Andy completely met and exceeded my expectations. He showed genuine interest in my house and was very personable. He took his time (several hours) and rekeyed all the doors I needed rekeyed. He also installed a new deadbolt in one door and, just when I was about to sign the bill, I remembered that I wanted him to rekey our 82 year-old garage door's lock that likely hasn't worked in years. He was kind and took extra time and care with that particular challenging job. Andy's work was excellent and he was quick to explain what he was doing to a know-nothing like me. He pointed out previous work that had been done in a likely rushed or unknowledgeable way and I was confident that he was doing an excellent job, getting things done the right way. He also shared a few pointers about our home and security that I completely appreciated! My final bill was higher than the estimate, but not because of any shady locksmith scammy business like you read about - just because I had initially forgotten to include the garage work and one doorknob was broken and needed to be replaced that I hadn't realized. It still wasn't sky high, and I believe his rates to be competitive with anyone else in the area. Andy is super nice and accommodating. Turns out the 5 exterior doors on my new house and studio each had a deadbolt plus door lock, all with different keys. Yes, that is 10 different keys to access the whole house. WHUT?? Andy used his creativity and knowledge to rekey all of the locks, and whittle the number of keys needed from 10 to 4. He was inexpensive, as far as I could tell. This whole process took almost 5 hours, and cost less that $600 including a couple new deadbolts, rekeying all locks, and several sets of keys. He does business in a way that hearkens back to the days when service and honesty were core values in any business -- and Andy absolutely exudes a spirit of service, honesty and care for his customer. While I was pretty upset over the stolen financial/banking papers I had in the car, I was even more upset that they took a spare car key I had hidden just in case I ever needed one. My son called me from a SODO business where he had his keys and cell phone stolen from his car, and he was run down by the assailant. After talking with the paramedics and police my son called me, quite upset as you can imagine. He wasn't sure what to do. I did a search on Bing for an affordable mobile locksmith in Seattle and tried the first one on the list, boy did I get lucky. I then checked Yelp for the reviews, almost too good to believe, but I am here to tell you there really are honest business people around these days and Andy is one of them. Andy puts a little bit of small town back into Seattle. My boyfriend had a very overpriced lockout a while ago so I did some research before choosing. Though I received recommendation through yelp and not word of mouth, I trusted the other users and am glad I did. He was great! Andy gave me a very reasonable quote for a vehicle lockout over the phone. My timeframe was flexible so we agreed to meet at a certain time in the evening. He called before arriving to confirm, and then showed promptly. The process is obviously quick and easy, and he used a method that did not damage the tint on my windows or cause any scratches (like previous jobs done with other companies). I had a great experience with Andy. I came home one day and my lock was just busted -- the key just revolved around and around. Fortunately, after jiggling with it for a bit, I got into my unit. I called Andy and he came over within 20 minutes to take a look. After checking it out, he came to the conclusion that I needed to completely replace the entire lock. Knowing that I needed to ensure the lock was the same, or somewhat the same, for uniformity in my condominium, Andy went to the warehouse to research the model that I had and found an updated model. I wasn't in a hurry so I told him to take his time. He came back 2 days later after purchasing the new lock to install the new lock as well as fix a minor issue I've had with my bathroom door for years. He didn't charge me until all of these services had been completed--and the final bill was exactly as he had quoted me. RAVE ON! My wife locked herself out while smoking - one more reason to hate cigarettes, but I digress. I'm 3000 miles away. She called me from the neighbors to see if I could help. I did the expedient thing, and called the first name that popped on Google, with an appealing sounding $19+labor. The answering service said the local tech would call me in 5 minutes with an estimate on timing. Right. After 8 minutes with no call back, I thought - what the hell? Why didn't I Yelp it?! So, I canceled the other service, since they still hadn't called me back, and called Andy. Advantage has terrific reviews and I see why. Andy answered himself, was pleasant instead of impersonal, said he'd be over in 30 minutes and arrived on our porch in 29 minutes, completed the job in a very reasonable amount of time, and charged a very reasonable amount of money. A note on that, btw -- yes, it was more money than the misleading $19, of course, but he told me what he thought it would cost based on my description, and that's what he charged, which was a fair price for the skilled labor involved. What would we have been charged by the $19+labor people? Who knows. This really IS woohoo-as-good-as-it-gets. Very highly recommended. It was reassuring how professional he was, especially considering the horror stories I now know about locksmiths! Despite saying that he would be here in 20 minutes, the locksmith got here an hour late. While he did duplicate my car key without a hitch, which I appreciate even though he came later than he promised, the copy worked for a few days and subsequently ruined my car's ignition, which obviously had to be fixed. I looked more closely at the key and compared it to the original one I had. The cutting on the new key was clearly sub par compared to the original. You could easily see that they were different without looking at them very closely. I'm not surprised that such a shoddy key would have messed up my ignition. Lesson: maybe you will have better luck, but I was hoping that such high reviews on Yelp would have meant high quality work. read more

The locksmith whom I initially used to re-key my new place was unprofessional - he asked me if I was single and had any kids and at the end, he offered to fix my car lock for a discount if I cooked him food. He actually put it in writing, the discount and his phone number. I was too busy to figure out what I should do about it but in the meantime, I found that I needed a new mailbox key, so I called Andy, a referral from a friend. He came out and did the mailbox, and fixed my car lock (no charge on that), and I felt very comfortable with him. When I mentioned my experience with the first locksmith, he was genuinely concerned about the incident and personally followed up with the owner of the other company (whom he knows). He offered to re-key my place for free! Even though it wasn't his responsibility, I was so blown away. He came out today, 4th of July, to re-key my place, gave me a better lock, and gave me multiple copies of the key... all free. I don't think I've come across any business that would go to that extent for customer service that comes with genuine care and authenticity. It's really rare nowadays. I had a silly problem with my mailbox, but Andy was prompt and patient. I called because I thought there was something wrong with my mailbox key. He came within 20 minutes to help me out. It turned out I had to push my key VERY hard because there was mail overflow pushing the door, and stiffening the lock pins. I needed a same-day, late-night (!) rekeying for a house I was closing on. When Ballard Lock and Key (recommended to me by a friend) couldn't do it, they in turn recommended Andy. I'm so glad they did - he's fantastic! Andy showed up a bit earlier than scheduled, and was very accommodating while we waited about 20 minutes for the previous owner to finish vacating. He rekeyed all of the locks as requested and was able to do it so that all the doors use the same key now. He also adjusted a door latch that was out of alignment and gave me advice for how to fix a three point shoot bolt that mis-aligned. Full disclosure: I've never actually spoken to Andy or actually used his locksmith services. That said, I was blown away by how incredibly helpful he was to a total stranger and non-customer. Long story short(er), I got locked out of my new condo the night I moved in, and it seemed like the only locksmiths who would answer their phones were somehow out of state. An equally kind gentleman from Ballard Lock & Key called Andy to ask for a favor, and Andy couldn't make it over. Rather than just declining his friend and going on with his Friday night, Andy took it upon himself to call other locksmiths he trusted in the area until he found someone available and passed along my information.
