David is detail oriented, thorough, and the best locksmith in the Seattle region that I've worked with. We reached out to him because we had a stuck double door and three tricky, full frame double door locks that needed to be rekeyed (and we didn't have the key for them, either). We'd had another locksmith out to work on them a few years ago and he gave up - said they were really difficult to work on and that we should replace the hardware instead (!!). David and I talked about the doors and the rekeying; I sent some photos; he said "oh, that shouldn't be a problem" and he was able to rekey all three of them - much to our delight! And not only that, but he did it quickly and cleanly. And he unstuck the door, and he fixed another issue where the full-frame lock was coming off the door - so, above and beyond work. While he was here, we talked about replacing some locks in the house with smart locks, and he made some recommendations. On the way out he noted that our handset on the front door had broken (he was correct). He mentioned that Baldwin - the manufacturer - had a lifetime warranty and so I should be able to get it replaced for free. And once again, he was completely right. I ordered the locks and the warranty replacement for the handset. He came out again and installed the locks, rekeyed them to match the house, and replaced the handset. He was very transparent about cost and pricing; he probably doesn't charge enough for his excellent work (it was less than the other locksmith who couldn't actually do the job!). We had a 25-year-old front door lock that was not working well. I asked David if he could replace it with a fancy keypad/bluetooth lock. He responded with a detailed email (and internet reference) to suggest why I might not want to go that direction. (It almost certainly wouldn't have lasted for the next 25 years!) I was impressed enough with David's honesty and patient explanations that I wanted him to visit us and see what could be done with the lock. We might need to spend $500 for a total repair. David very methodically investigated multiple possible solutions until he found the cause of the problem. The lock had been jury-rigged for its whole life! He disassembled the whole mechanism, modified a problematic part, and then addressed a sticky door jam that we thought we would just have to live with. Total cost: $100. I had two sticky locks at a clients'. First David tried to troubleshoot over the phone - for free! But I had spent a couple of hours on this and needed it done, so when the phone call didn't work, he did a house call. It must've been a 45 min drive for him. He fixed both doors, including having to drill a lock out and replace parts from his "vintage" stock. He spent an hour and honestly, I've paid more for a tank of gas. The customer was delighted and so am I. I only wish I had more use for his services, because this guy deserves all of the work he can get. I've had a busted-up door off the garage since I bought this house. Works fine, but somebody tried to kick it in at some point, and the previous owner did a DIY patch job on the frame. This past weekend, the lock assembly just fell right out of the door knob, so it was time to stop ignoring the issue. David diagnosed everything and bid the job from photos I emailed him. I accidentally locked myself out again this February, and made the mistake of hiring another locksmith, instead of Dave, out of urgency. Not only was the other locksmith 75 minutes late, but he overcharged me $185 from the quoted $80, just because he could. I replaced the old sliding glass door and all my dated windows using a company called Penguin Windows. To my dismay, they went out of business in 2011. Fast forward 2023 and the lock on the sliding glass door stopped turning! I went to the web, called "David the Locksmith," and could not have had a more pleasant experience! With Penguin out of business, David wanted to save me money and suggested that I first see if the life-time warranty Penguin promised was being serviced by another company. I called the law firm that settled their bankruptcy. They confirmed that Penguin took off without passing that to a servicing partner. I called David back.
