Thought I would try this. Re-finance my 2015 truck to a lower interest rate. Currently 15% and they said they could lower to 8%. Gave all the info to them (be prepared they want everything) along with a hard credit check. They said I was approved. SURE.... then it goes from them to typically a sub-prime lender. That's the catch. I waited over 3 weeks. The lender wanted references, pay stubs, insurance rider in their name, proof of insurance with specific details. They called everyone including my boss. In the end, didn't get the loan. BEWARE Only good if you have a credit score of AT LEAST 690 or more. However if you have great credit you wouldn't need to refinance your vehicle as your interest rate would be low already. Like so many DEALS online. If it's too good to be true it probably is. WASTE OF TIME. read more

Rate Genius required more information than my mortgage loan! I provided it all and they kept coming back with ridiculousness, first I had to get a notary - done, second had to send them every important document I had, still not enough, we had recently purchased a new home and they wouldn't accept the proof of residence for myself as I wasn't on the bill despite us being married for over a decade! I provided the gas address verification in my name which also has the building number for their meter guys so that wasn't acceptable. The entire experience went on this way. Their reps let me know they were busy, so their responses took forever, but they would ironically tell me that I was running out of time. A HUGE waste of time, energy, and money as I ended up canceling our application request and went with a local credit union, which had a comparable rate and half the price in gap insurance. I definitely do NOT recommend RateGenius. read more

The individual assigned to my loan reached out to me only to tell me we had to communicate via phone and not e mail. I have tried multiple times to set up a phone conference and have been getting no response. This is so frustrating considering they did a hard credit pull. I'm only giving them 1 star because 0 is not an option. We recently sent in all of our information to this lender and we're all set up to refinance our truck. After everything was sent, we received no more information about our vehicle. Dennis Ortiz did all of our paperwork, and we never heard from him again. Over a month of trying to get ahold of him, or anymore and no one returned our calls. Absolutely the WORST customer service and company I have ever dealt with. If you're looking for a place with no help, no way to get in contact with anyone, and a complete waste of your time, this is the place. If you're trying to save money... Short Story: I lost money (~$800) and time. Long Story: Honestly, this one is on my own head. Should have trusted my homework. I got a letter from RateGenius offering to save me money by refinancing my car. I thought I would reach out and see if they really could. I talked with one of their folks and she straight up told me that it wasn't worth refinancing my car because I wouldn't save any money doing it. I thanked her for my honesty and went on with my life. Fast forward a few months, RateGenius calls me back. They say that the first girl I talked to was new and had no idea what she was talking about. The new guy promises they can save me thousands of dollars by refinancing. I told him that the math I had done confirmed the first girl's story. He responded by saying I wasn't taking into consideration the loan type, blah blah blah, he would save me loads of Benjamins. The first gal was honest with me and RateGenius had really good reviews so I trusted him. (Note to self: if something sounds too good to be true, it is) Went through the process of refinancing (it was relatively easy to do, I guess), had to get a bunch of documents notarized, and, ultimately, it cost me almost $800 to refinance. That was unexpected and extremely irritating but, hey, they were going to save me oodles of money, right? Well, it's been a few months and I'm (almost) caught up to where I was when I originally refinanced (please note that I am paying a higher monthly rate than I was before refinancing else I would still be about $150 behind where I started). Turns out, the first girl was right. I didn't save anything by switching. In fact, I LOST MONEY in the deal. Another annoying tidbit: the new loan holder, Matadors, is more difficult to work with than my original loan holder, Honda Financial. Can't blame that completely on RateGenius but it definitely made the process less pleasant. Overall, very disappointing experience but a valuable life lesson. read more

So frustrated right now. I was told I was approved for my refinancing of my auto, give all of my personal information and some, select which rate and months I want to go with, only to be told that I have to pay another $1000 on my current car loan to bring it down before Apple Valley will approve the loan. This has me so inquiry because a hard inquiry went onto my credit report causing it to drop and I end up having to wait for the loan for another 3 months. What is the point of trying to refinance if you have to pay $1000 on a current loan. Very misleading and now I am nervous my personal information is out there! read more

DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. My father got a pre-approval offer from rateGenius (through Credit Karma) to refinance his auto loan. We moved forward without providing my father's social security number (this was optional part of the application and we were looking to only see the rates without doing a hard pull). However, my father is a busy guy, and wasn't able to return this company's phone calls as well as all the daily text messages. They kept bugging my father for several days. In the meantime, my father was already able to get a loan from his own bank with a great rate. What we figured next was that these people pulled a hard copy of my father's Equifax credit report WITHOUT his permission and after SEVERAL DAYS!!!! NEVER EVER AGAIN WE WILL APPLY FOR ANY SORT OF LOAN/CREDIT THROUGH ANY OF THE COMPANIES POPING UP ON CREDIT KARMA!!!! read more

I clicked on a link at Credit Karma because they said they could save me $70+ a month on my car payment. Submitted my info and was contacted by a guy named Kevin. Apparently the stuff they post on Credit Karma may or may not still be right, and yes, they can save me money per month, but that's if you extend the life of the loan. Turns out the big savings wasn't so big after all. So I asked him to cancel the application. What he did instead was show me as declined, even though I had been approved. Seriously? So I emailed their customer service and threatened to get the Better Business Bureau involved if they don't report this correctly. But I'm also considering sending an email to the AG in Texas to see if their business practices are even legal, because this feels like some solid bait and switch. Jerks. read more

Horrible experience! I haven't had a more difficult time trying to refinance my auto loan. I applied and got approved but when it came to the paperwork they continually kept asking for more documentation. I would send them the information and they would come back and ask for more documentation again and again. All the while I pushed back my current car payment under the assumption it would be paid in a timely manner, well it wasn't. I now have a late payment to my current lender and still don't know when or if the loan will be paid off. The communication is atrocious and the whole process is a disaster. Process took almost 2 weeks during which I had to call numerous times to see what was going on. They didn't provide a loan and lowered my credit score in the process. Really bad experience. Do not purchase their gap insurance. They charge almost twice as much as a credit union, and they do not offer any refund after 60 days.

Your not a direct lender and will charge expensive interest rate that people do not need. People will do their homework on getting the best deals and your company will not do that. I strongly suggest for others to google search rategenius and see all the other reviews. I am not the only one that has voiced bad reviews on this company. read more

From beginning to end, (our loan officer) was great. Very informative, professional, and patient with any and every question thrown at him. I'm pretty thorough in my research, so it did take some time for me to agree to the rate they received our approvals for, but all in all - I have no complaints. What can I say?? I'm a stickler for attention to detail and full disclosure. There was a minor hiccup with some paperwork not being completely filled in. That's just a personal pet peeve (I won't sign anything blank), to which our loan officer was quick to accommodate - honoring my request at a printout versus e-sign. I'm amazed at how smooth and quick the refinance process went on both vehicles (we refi'd two at once)!! I think a lot of the time, your experience has to do with not only the person helping you, but your understanding of the process. If that line of communication breaks down at any time, it spells disaster. In our case, it was heaven sent! Remember, once the paperwork is sent to you for signatures, the ball is in your court. My advice to anyone in any transaction, make sure you have all of your ducks in a row BEFORE starting the process - no room for surprises! ;) I'll surely recommend our contact at anytime - even without the need to get paid! After all was done, RateGenius reached out to me once again to see if we'd be interested in having our insurance policies reviewed for any possible savings. I applied late at night on a Tuesday. I talked with Ann on Wednesday and signed the paperwork she emailed me. I sent an email on Thursday morning to make sure I hadn't missed anything. I then went to UPS to send it back. I received an email on Friday to let me know that the paperwork had been received. Ann emailed me Saturday saying the loan was approved. How easy could it be? First of all, i saw these rate genius auto finance company one of my favorite youtube channel called COMMON CENTS MIKE. He said, this could be the best refinance company so far. then after few days, on my credit karma app, rate genius poped up saying it can be low as 3% according to my credit score. so i thought i should give them a try. i applied and waited 1 full week. then i had to call them. the customer agent who picked the phone up said rate genius and got silence. i can feel she is one of the person who hate thier job. so asked her i applied for refinance and didnt get call or email from you guys. she looked up my account said, you are not approved. i said what was the reason. she said i do not know but i hope they already send you on the mail. next time when you apply for refinance your loan, make sure you have good credit score have a good day and hung up. so only thing i got from rategenius is they got my application and working hard to get me the best rate and here is your app number. i never ever late on any of my payment. i had strong 731 score before i applied rategenius. now is 704. good job rategenius. well done and well played with my time and my credit score. do not trust guys on youtube and credit karma app read more

Our return to Rate Genius was after my husband had a fantastic experience using them for buying out his lease. So when it was my turn.....I gave it a shot....However, My lease buyout was a complete disaster. Representative Steven Madigan is a total nincompoop. This inexperienced kid had NO grasp on what he was doing.....couldnt organize his thoughts....couldnt get his side of the program to work....sent me overnight documents 3 times with incorrect information and even managed to change my insurance over to a lender I hadnt even signed with. This clown hit my credit for hard inquiries 4 times and then....when I called him out on his blunders, he sends me an adverse advisement of my credit. (751 is bad in what world?) What a complete MORON. After the 2nd set of wrong overnight documents, I called and returned texts stating I DID NOT WANT TO COMPLETE PROCESS WITH RATE GENIUS due to his incompetence and so he closed the file with an adverse action. Then I call to file a complaint with a manager and well....that return call never came. RUN SCREAMING from RATE GENIUS....Lets see if the letter to corporate gets anywhere....
