More like three and a half stars. I usually round down because Yelp is overly generous and I try to counteract that. This is basically kind of like a Chipotle style where you put all your toppings and rice and whatnot. What I don't like about this setup is all the flavors tend to get thrown together and I'm not sure that quite works well with Indian food. Some of the toppings are pretty unique and I've never heard of them myself. I did like the noodles that were cut up kind of like rice grains. Parking is hard to find in this area and it would be better to come after hours when it's free. Services good. It's all on the counter. The inside is very clean so is the bathroom inner decor is nice. If I'm in the area might come here again but I would probably try to eat at some other newer establishments just for the novelty of it read more

Can we say creative?! Love the huge blue door when you enter (definitely insta-worthy). And upon walking in, there are beautiful colorful paintings paired with a certain moods, and staggered shelves on the wall with some cool books. Anddddd their egg swings (I call the oval swings that haha) are so cute - and again, boomerang worthy Food is chipotle-style with some set bowls but you can certainly create your own. The names are adorable! I went with "Tikka A Chance On Me" cuz Abba + CTM (chicken tikka masala) are life! I found it to be quite good but perhaps with a little too much going on. I think when it comes to bowls, sometimes less is more, but I'm sure there are others who feel otherwise. It was overall quiet and a quick, casual spot. I am SUCH a fan of RASA. Hands down the best fast- casual spot we've been to in the city. The food was fresh, diverse and flavorful. RASA also had a really fun happy hour with some funky (and tasty) cocktail options. I stuck with a veggie bowl because the options looked so darn good-- sweet potato and tofu cauliflower and topped it with a bunch of awesome looking (and tasting) veggies. Amazing is an understatement! Everything about Rasa is on point - the decor, the vibes, the drinks, and most importantly, the FOOD. I came here for a Yelp event and had one of the best dining experiences ever. Co-owners Rahul and Sahil shared their inspiring story of how Rasa came about. I love how they incorporated so many family and cultural elements into this establishment and the food. The drinks spanned from regular chai tea and mango lassi to tamarind margarita, masala gin + tonic, spiked lassis, and more!! I opted for the mango spiked lassi which is a yogurt mango flavored drink with rum - AMAZING. For the food, I had the pleasure of trying their perfectly seasoned samosas and and built my own Indian-style "chipotle" bowl. Let me tell you, the jackfruit is unreal. The texture is potato-like and added a good heartiness to my bowl. What elevated my bowl was the COCONUT GINGER sauce. Omg I want to bathe in it, that's how good it is. Definitely get this! You can't really go wrong with any of the toppings here, I heard great reviews on all of them!! I finished off with the Masala chai cookies stuffed with kulfi ice cream. RASA looks like it hits all the fast casual points - it's branding is colorful and fun, the restaurant interior is bright and hip, the specialty bowls have the punniest names (such as "tikka chance on me" and "aloo need is love"), but unfortunately, the food completely misses the mark. I ordered the Open Sesame with the tamarind chili sauce instead of the peanut sauce (I was feeling something spicy over creamy). Even though my bowl was covered in sauces, is was highly lacking in flavor. I don't know if it was the cucumbers that drowned out everything and made the entire bowl just taste bland and watery, or if nothing was flavorful in the first place. The eggplant looked beautifully charred but again, didn't taste like much. Another HUGE miss for me was the fact that my bowl was lukewarm. And it wasn't like we took our order to-go, went home, and ate. We walked 100 feet to the outdoor seating and sat down to eat our food. My friend also commented about how cold his bowl was too. The one saving grace was the lamb meatballs. They were probably the only thing in the bowl that was very well seasoned. I will say, the staff was pretty friendly and a bonus is, they provide really nice reusable bags. Overall, I was pretty disappointed with my experience at RASA. I definitely expected more from a place with such high ratings here on Yelp. This wasn't my first time at RASA either, I tried it once before a couple of years ago and wasn't too impressed then. Ok, so I've been to Spice 6 in Chinatown and now RASA in Navy Yard. RASA is better! I love the ambiance. When you enter RASA, you go through a beautiful blue door, and that's when you know you're in for something special. If Shophouse and Cava had an Indian baby, it would be RASA. It's another fast casual-type place with the "build your own bowl" / greens, grains, greens+grains, etc. format. If you dine in, they serve your dish in a fancy bowl for a more upscale feel. I ordered mine to go and even got hooked up with a cute reusable RASA bag! I almost went with the Chef's "Tikka Chance on Me" bowl but decided that I wanted a little more customization, so I opted for the DIY/Design Your Own bowl. Both options are $9.32, which comes out to $10.25 with tax. Some proteins, such as the lamb and shrimp, cost extra (naturally). All of the ingredients are clearly labeled as you go down the line to build your bowl. I chose the lemon tumeric basmati for my base. They also have regular basmati, rice noodles, and greens for base choices. I went with the chicken tikka for my protein and tomato garlic for my sauce. The chicken was tender and the sauce was flavorful. They have so many good veggies to choose from (spinach, eggplant, brussel sprouts, green beans); I went with the sauteed spinach and am so glad I did! The sauteed spinach was delicious. The only thing missing was paneer. You can get unlimited toppings, such as cucumber, cilantro, mango salsa, microgreens - all of which are cool and refreshing. They also have some crunchy finishes - I loved the addition of sunflower seeds and the lentil crisp for texture. I wasn't sure which chutneys to get, so I ended up getting the mint cilantro chutney, toasted cumin yogurt, and tamarind ginger chutney on the side. Kudos to the server who let me take my time to decide and made sure that I got everything that I wanted in my bowl. The mint cilantro chutney mixed with the toasted cumin yogurt is a winning combination. The bowl was a big enough serving for me to have two lunches, and everything was just as tasty the next day. This restaurant is the Indian version on Chipotle. LOTS of flavors. You're probably wondering why I gave them a 4 star. I gave them a 4 star because it's EXPENSIVE. It's one of those places considered "fast" food but expensive for what it is. Getting extra meat is a whole $2 something. I mean, all their options are displayed in Le Creuset pots. You can see why it's expensive. Otherwise, the food is super tasty and their Naan is to die for ! I always go back to get the Naan. Their staff is super friendly. It's a great place to grab dinner before a night out with friends. The decor is also really nice and they give you reusable bags ! Even though it's expensive, it's worth the experience. We found out about RASA through TikTok and decided to give it a shot. The experience begins when you enter the restaurant. They have the transitional style (chairs and tables), but they also offer the Egg-Pod style swing chairs by the window - the windows were open which made the experience that much better - I guess a breeze is a must to truly enjoy it. It's build-your-own-bowl style - very much like Chipotle or CAVA, but their ingredients are different which is where the magic happens. You get to pick from Indian style noodles or rice, with several choices of sauces to pick from. You have several base options available - rice, noodles, greens, etc. - plenty of vegetarians and non-vegetarians options available - you will not be disappointed with their choices. Plenty of toppings to choose from once the bowl is ready, as well as the sauces (chutneys) - it could be said too many choices can make it difficult to choose, but more to pick for your next visit. You can mix and match several different options which is always neat. The employees were pleasant and sought feedback at the end. They wanted to make sure we were happy with the service and the food and that we didn't leave unsatisfied. Cost is comparable to what you'd pay at other similar restaurants. We loved their food so much that we had them cater a graduation party. We worked with Mark and he was nothing short of phenomenal. From the time we first spoke on the phone until the day of the delivery, he was prompt, professional and courteous. He made sure we had more than plenty for the party. Food was delivered hot and fresh and came with proper utensils and trays. All we had to do was setup and serve to our guests. There were approximately 145 people invited to the party (about 35 families) and most of them took food with them at the end party. I highly recommend visiting them and allow Mark to cater your next event. Also, check out the owners' journey and how they ended up creating RASA. This is probably my favorite Indian fusion place in DC. I was a bit skeptical at first with some of the flavor pairings, but everything seems to pull together at the end no matter what you choose to add to your bowl. Of the pre-made bowls, I recommend trying Home Cooking. All the bowls are delish, but Home Cooking is definitely my favorite. It has a South Indian flair to it, and is filling yet doesn't feel heavy. I also tried the kulfi and masala chai. The kulfi is probably the most authentic kulfi I've tried so far. Bit overpriced for the amount you get, but totally worth it! Besides the great food, the interior and ambience of this place is great. With contemporary yet homey vibes, this place is perfect to catch up with friends or go on a casual date. You pick your base grains, your protein, your vegetable sides, and your toppings/dressings. I especially like their shrimp, and the noodles or lentils make a good base. They also have a pretty good tamarind chutney. Service is fast and everything seems pretty clean. The food is also vegetarian friendly, if that matters to you. This was, hands down, the best meal I've had in a while. It doesn't taste like authentic Indian cuisine (its a fusion, its not supposed to!), but its perfect in its own way as is. Don't be afraid to go crazy mixing various flavors - they all pull together very well. I made my own bowl with a mix of supergains and rice noodles. (Definitely get the rice noodles - they add the best texture to the bowl!!) As a base, I did half cauliflower/tofu, half jackfruit. The jackfruit is the way to go. The cauliflower was good but tofu a little bland. The spinach was amazing as a veggie, and then I had all the toppings. My brother recommended the Turmeric Ginger Shrimp, but I didn't feel comfortable designing my own-with Indian food flavors, they need to marry well; I thought I would play it safe by ordering from the We Got You part of the menu lol. I was torn between the Home Cooking and Open Sesame (both have good reviews), but I went with Home Cooking because of my brother's recommendation. I was definitely pleased (I like shrimp so I asked for a portion and a half so I would get more than 6 shrimp). It is a little spicy but it was really flavorful. I'll have to try Open Sesame next time. Also, the Mint Cardamom Limeade was tasty-a nice light refreshing drink. My I only complaint is that the food doesn't hold heat. I cannot recommend RASA highly enough if you're looking for fast-casual in the Navy Yard area. Skip Chipotle, Cava, any of the burger joints, etc., and come to RASA instead. I've eaten it several times and have never had a bad meal. On top of the bowls, the samosas and masala chai cookies are great. I've had the Tikka Chance On Me, Home Cooking, and Goa Your Own Way multiple times, and each one tastes great, has a good mix of protein, vegetables, and starch, and the sauces and chutneys/yogurts taste great. Here's why: -They always have fresh ingredients every time I come in. Other places sometimes have ingredients that look like they've been sitting under a heat lamp since the year 2000. -All the staff are super friendly. I would go so far as to say they even exude the feeling that they enjoy their job, which is awesome. -There are a lot of different protein options, and not all of them are meat, so it's easy to create a bowl of good stuff. -The sauces. Rasa was a very fun experience. It is so colorful and welcoming when you walk in! I came in with the intention of getting the shrimp bowl that I saw a photo of on yelp, and I got it, but it was nothing like that photo. To be honest I didn't really like it, but everyone I was with loved their food. I just got the wrong dish, which is not the restaurants fault. I would not recommend the naan, but I would definitely recommend the mango smoothie. Rasa is also in a cute area of dc, and has these cute little swings overlooking the city. It's really great to have an option for lunch that involves interesting flavors and spices and smells but is still in the category of casual take out. This place is big and has a seating area but most people seem to grab it and go. The time I went I planned to leave but was attracted to the nice interior decoration and decided to hang out. There's artwork on the wall and a central seating area it's much nicer than typical café style chairs and tables. We actually went to Mt Vernon Triangle location and loved it. We absolutely loved the Spicy Chili Chicken bowl so much that we ate there 2 days in a row. Amazing! We thought it was something special. We live in PA and there isn't a ton of good Indian. My husband, however, grew up in Sydney, Aus where Indian is quite popular and he loved it. If we lived in the area, we'd frequent it. read more
