    Tikka Chance On Me
    Shernell H.

So, I stumbled on Rasa randomly as I was trying to decide on what my taste buds desired as I walked from the Wharf to the Navy Yard. While walking past and eventually into Rasa, I immediately noticed that they were a cute, casual spot, that served Indian food. Needless to say I was sold. Rasa gives Chipotle/CAVA/Bindaas vibes (affordable food with decently healthy options). Additionally, the workers here were patient with honest recommendations, which I greatly appreciated. Prior to making such a hard decision lol, I sampled the chicken to help solidify my choice. The chicken by itself was flavored very well, which led me to get the Tikka Chance on Me Bowl. The bowl itself was great, portion wise, however there were some sauces and ingredients within the bowl that reduced the impact-fulness of that wonderfully flavored chicken. Due that, the bowl was just average to me. Overall, I had a good experience and will be open to trying something different at Rasa that amplifies the flavors of their chicken.

Listen I love me some Rasa! Ever since I was first introduced to them thru Yelp. Now I am working on a 6 week project at Navy Yard. Ask me how many times I have had them in a 2 week span :-) lol. Today marks number 5. Today we were greeted by Dejuan who not only made recommendations but also supplied us with top customer service. I got a bowl with arugula, chicken, chickpeas, yellow rice, cucumbers, corn and to top it all off the chickpea noodles! The quality of food here is what makes me keep coming back. I try something new each time, whether it is the lamb, or a topping or a sauce.

would've given it five stars if one of the employees was a bit kinder in her approach. the food was good for fast food indian and i love that they had a vegan masala chai soft serve option. i did not love that i wasn't told there would be an up charge. the way they rang up a customized bowl felt like an up charge. instead of informing me kindly the woman was kind of like so be it. didn't love that and felt a bit petty. ordered a bowl with lamb and cauliflower and potatoes with the fixings. it was pretty good and filling. we had some garlic naan on the side and i ordered a couple scoops of the soft serve with their chai cookies as well. again, a chai lover here. love the flavor! appreciated the education around the owners and all the nods to indian culture around the restaurant.

Summary: solid meal. We ordered for pickup, so not too much to be said about service, but it's kind of like Indian food meets CAVA/Chipotle. The portion size in my case was a bit underwhelming and they were a bit stingy with the sauce for my entree. Otherwise, the flavor was good and the shrimp was cooked very well. It's a great meal for a reasonable price and they have a good selection of drinks too.

I'm late to the Rasa train but I'm glad I'm on it now! Rasa is hella good and very reasonable for the quality of food. The decor is super cute and colorful with swing chairs included. It is very spacious for DC and more like a Chipotle style line when you enter. The menu has a great variety of bowls, drinks (nonalcoholic and alcoholic) and desserts. I've had their butter chicken bowls, mango lassi frozen yogurt and hot masala chai. All 5 stars! I'll have to try new items next time I go but I like sticking to my regular order lol.

Rasa is fabulous and I wouldn't be surprised if it keeps growing like Cava did. Like others have said, it's kind of like "Chipotle but Indian"--except there are dishes you can actually order without choosing each ingredient, they have more options for sides (the samosas are my favorite!), they have alcoholic beverages (including local beers!), they have much cuter decor (very colorful and hip), and they have an adorable origin story. In that sense, it's better than Chipotle and shouldn't be compared! Service was excellent, and I loved everything I ate. Unsurprisingly for Indian cuisine, there were plenty of options for me as a vegetarian. I highly recommend Rasa!

We checked out Rasa for the first time for a quick, casual dinner after a comedy show in Navy Yard. I love Cava / fast casual bowls and Indian food, so I was excited for Rasa! The flavors were delicious. I made my own bowl, but I think next time I would try one of their curated creations. The samosa chaat was underwhelming unfortunately! I loooove samosas so I was looking forward to that side dish - but the samosas were super dry. The ambiance inside the restaurant is super cute and cozy. I will be visiting the downtown location for lunch soon!

I ordered Rasa for delivery while in my hotel in DC and I was so glad to have tried it! Really fresh flavors, good portions, and a good price. I ordered a Greens+ Grains bowl. You can build your own bowl. I ordered mine with tofu, cauliflower, rice, greens, chickpeas, tomato, avocado + chutneys. Also ordered garlic naan, samosa chaat, and masala chai cookies. The food was really delicious! Great flavors. Only downfall was I didn't get any tofu despite ordering some in the bowl and the chai cookies weren't very the best/fresh. The naan was yummy though and complimented all the flavors in the bowl well. Definitely a great option for delivery or to even dine in as it looked like a nice spot!

I have never been to a beach party in Goa, but I would love to go someday. I imagine that visiting Rasa gives a little bit of what that might be like, in the best possible way. One of their menu items mentions Goa and I have been thinking of it ever since. Service was smiling, warm, friendly, attentive and casual. I felt like I could ask anything that I needed to as a novice with Indian cuisine. We ordered the lamb bowl. It was a large amount of food/a good value... rich with complex layers of flavor. I finished mine before I could take a photo. Oops! The desserts were two varieties of "creamy crack" in that they were good enough to become addictive. I ate both and left The Date to fend for himself. :#) I'm sorry to post photos of empty dishes but the food was gone by the time that I gathered my wits. I'm sure to be back very soon and will try to get a photo.

We typically do take out/pick up using the online ordering. This time we did order ahead and set a time for our food to be ready. When we got to the restaurant it was packed and ready to go when we requested for it to be ready. I've never dined in but we do like the decor of the restaurant. There are lots of color usage but not over the top and I really do like the hanging egg shaped basket chairs. They're fun looking. Our food was good. I ordered a Tikka chance on me. Chickens good and enjoy the sauces veggies and other toppings. One customization I do is half basmati rice and half noodles, I like the variety. There are a lot of options to build your own if you want to be creative or have a particular craving. Will be back for more bowls and garlic naan!

Jab's version ($10) is the best dupe I've ever had! I ordered it as a carryout item, and I was wary that it wouldn't hold up to the transport and would be soggy. Jab packaged it thoughtfully - all of the sauces were served on the side - and the flash-fried spinach stayed perfectly crispy and wasn't greasy at all! Serving the sauces on the side is actually even better because then I was able to customize the sauce levels and flavors. I would definitely come back and order this again. I also ordered the Chicken Makhani ($20) because I'm basic like that. It comes with rice. You can customize the spice levels, and yes, I ordered mild (...I SAID I was basic). The butter chicken was good but doesn't crack the list of my favorites. The chicken was a little dry and they use a grilled/barbecued chicken which gave it a smoky flavor. The mild was quite mild, I actually think I could handle a slightly spicier level here. I'm happy I tried this place - will come back to try more.

Two decades later, it remains an absolute powerhouse and a masterclass in culinary consistency. The Accolades Rasika's trophy case is legendary. Chef Vikram Sunderam secured a prestigious James Beard Award for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic, and the restaurant has consistently retained a top-tier spot on The Washington Post's 100 Very Best Restaurants list. It's the kind of place that effortlessly balances critical acclaim with a fiercely loyal local following, famously serving as a birthday hotspot for President Obama and a staple for D.C.'s culinary elite. The Menu While the iconic Palak Chaat gets plenty of well-deserved press, the true depth of the kitchen shines brightest in their classic entrees and customizable heat profiles. The Lamb Shank: A definitive triumph of slow-cooked execution. The meat is spectacularly tender, effortlessly falling away from the bone at the mere suggestion of a fork. Infused with a rich, aromatic blend of saffron and roasted coconut, the sauce achieves a profound depth of flavor that is both deeply comforting and complex. Saag Paneer (Malai Palak): Rasika's take on this classic elevates standard creamed spinach to an art form. The spinach retains a vibrant, fresh green character, expertly laced with garlic, onions, and green chilies. The paneer cubes are beautifully delicate, acting as the perfect velvety vehicle for the impeccably spiced greens. The House-Made Hot Sauce: For those who appreciate true heat, Rasika offers an exceptional house-made hot sauce that is cooked to order. We made a lunch reservation on OpenTable and made our way to the highly anticipated Chai Pani. Once we were seated, the waitress greeted us and asked if we had dined at Chai Pani before. Since it was our first time, she gave us an overview and explained that the dishes are great for sharing. They also had some specials - the magic masala tomato chaat and grilled swordfish were being featured. We started with the kale pakora chaat ($15) and SPDP ($13). We loved the kale pakora chaat! My standard for a kale chaat is Rasika's signature palak chaat. Chai Pani's kale chaat holds their own. This chaat is more frittery than loose kale pieces, which made it easier to serve and share with the group. The flavor and texture were on point. The addition of the grapes and melon seeds gave the dish more sweetness, freshness, and great presentation. I would definitely order this again. The SPDP (puffed puris) were yogurt-laden, which made them less appealing. When they were brought to the table, the waiter instructed us that they are meant to be eaten in one bite. I appreciate the instruction, but the puris are a little big (it would be easier to eat in two bites). I didn't really taste the other ingredients other than the puri shell overloaded with yogurt. For the entrees, we ordered the butter chicken ($22) and lamb kala masala ($34). Both came with a small bowl of jeera rice. The lamb shank was excellent! I've had the lamb shank at the Michelin-rated Rania, and Chai Pani's lamb shank is better! The meat was tender and moist. It fell off the bone - always a sign of great cooking. The butter chicken was solid but was not a standout dish. This curry definitely had some heat to it, but the portion felt small for the price. It had a smoky flavor to it and used white breast meat, so it was on the dry side. We also got a side of naan which was pretty standard but great for sopping up the curry. Service was kind and bubbly. It started out strong, but it waned as the meal went on. We were checked on when the starters came out, but not necessarily checked on when the mains came out. She was knowledgeable of the menu and did check if we wanted to order any more drinks. The table was set with a water carafe, so we were able to take care of our own water cup refills. Bottom line - I would come back here again. I think the chaats and street food dishes are where Chai Pani really shines, and the lively, upbeat ambiance adds to the enjoyment. Chai Pani is a lovely addition to the Union Market neighborhood - definitely check it out!

However, by the time we left they were packed, and everyone there enjoyed the bright atmosphere, attentive waitstaff, and delicious food. We tried several dishes--we got the fried chili buff momos. I will definitely get. Them again, but steamed. Honestly, I think that I could make an entire meal of momos. We got veggie samosas--standard--crisp, plump, a little salty, and good. We also got a creamy chicken dish and an okra (bhindi) dish. Both were very good. The service was exemplary--there was a team of four or five dedicated staff who rotated through with dishes and takeaways. Oh! I almost forgot the garlic naan--some of the best I have had. Definitely stop in and give this place some love!!

They tried to tone down some of the dishes as the hubster is a non-spicy person. The stuff still spicy , he stayed away from. We ordered a meal set for two to try a little bit of everything. We aren't experts in this type of cuisine, but there wasn't anything we didn't like. With the meal for 2 plus a side order of naan, we ended up making 2 lunch take out plates for us. I wasn't super hungry so that probably resulted in us taking more home. It was great, quiet and we'd come here again!

Dining with my friend on Lebanese cuisine was a delightful culinary adventure filled with surprises…read moreand delights. Moussaka: A classic Lebanese dish. Eggplant and hummus were simmered until soft and flavorful, with a subtle smoky aroma. The addition of mint leaves enhanced the flavor. Bone Marrow: Beef tartare with bone marrow and pomegranate seeds--how interesting! The first two provided a rich, fatty texture and intense aroma, while the latter burst in your mouth occasionally, juicy, tangy, and refreshing. Brussels Sprouts: Brussels sprouts with grapes, walnuts, fig jam, and mint yogurt--a whimsical yet magical combination... The Brussels sprouts offered a fresh, vegetal aroma and a slightly roasted aroma; the walnuts provided a nutty richness and crunch; the fruit provided a fresh sweet and sour taste and plenty of juice; and the yogurt acted as a binder between the flavors while adding a touch of minty coolness. Duck Shawarma: My friend and I thought: ...Peking duck? The skin was soft, the meat tender, not gamey, with a subtle smoky flavor; the fig and lemon sauce was sweet and refreshing; the small pita pillows held the meat securely, better than the lettuce what might have been too cold. Lamb Stuffed Grape Leaves: Black rice was wrapped in grape leaves and simmered with minced lamb. The rice absorbed the fragrance of the grape leaves, similar to lotus leaves (my friend and I thought: lamb version of sticky rice chicken糯米雞...?). The lamb, however, was served separately at the bottom of the pot and didn't absorb much flavor; overall, it was intensely sour. In short, this dish was a bit oddly designed, and it was the only one we didn't finish because the sourness was unbearable. Pita Bread: The bread was thin yet chewy, with a rough, slightly powdery surface, making it substantial and satisfying. I especially loved the "everything wrapped in a big pancake" style! This restaurant is located on the wharf near the Potomac River and boasts beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows. The spring sunlight streamed in softly.

Upon arriving at the restaurant there was no waiting we were taken to our table. The waiter was very helpful and attentive regarding the menu and specials not on the menu. We ordered a mixture of hot and cold mezza plates to share at the table. I initially ordered a mocktail that was good then we ordered wine. My friend ordered a glass of the red table wine however in my case my palate was off last night because every wine before settling on the chardonnay was clashing with the food. For the meal we ordered the mixed meat plate with suppose to be roasted veggies. The veggies were odd they seemed pickled and not roasted. The meat with the warm bread and dirty rice were good. We didnt order any dessert. I gave 4 because of the veggies and wine selections.

We've come to Rania probably half a dozen times since it opened, but last night was the first time…read morewe tried the full chef's tasting menu. Holy. Smokes. Certainly the best meal I've had in DC in years, which includes meals at Jont and P&P in the past several months. Unquestionably the best Indian meal I've had on Earth. The parade of dishes does not have a low point, which is incredible given the range of "mains" from chicken, to sable fish, to lamb taco, to pork cheek. Each dish shows clear French influence - we had most of the five sauces at least once - but with clear, vibrant warmth from Indian spices. Even at places like Eleven Madison and Le Bernardin, there's usually a miss or two. Not last night. Which brings me to the question: why not two Stars? Three? I think some of the answer comes back to ambiance and service. The chef's tasting does not have a dedicated space, flow, or timing. The rhythm of it can be somewhat offbeat with the constant arrival of over-the-top cocktails at the tables around you. And also, it has honestly felt like many of the waitstaff were "in training" on each of our recent visits. I know staff turnover is real and constant, and the staff last night were all perfectly kind, but I think there's a level of consistent experience - "worth a detour" - that has to elevate even perfect food beyond itself to garner the higher levels. Anyway, never mind that. And don't change a thing about the food or presentations. World class.

The low light really brings a intimate and exclusive mood to your experience here. Service: Before being sat, being greeted and being sat was slow, there was only us and another group and the venue was not packed or busy. We waited quite a while to be greeted at our table as well aftwr being seated. However, during the experience, service was exceptional. From serve staff taking explaining the dishes to us to the staff wiping up our table between courses. Their attention to detail and promptness was lovely. At one point I had to leave the table for a long period of time so I missed the 5th course. They took it away because it was cold and brought me a fresh hot dish. They were extremely kind and thoughtful of my 9 year old. Misc notes before food review: This is not a kid friendly venue, especially if you have a picky eater or a child that doesn't like to venture out or expand their palate. There are options that kids could like but very limited. They do get to choose a la carte from the regular 4 course meal menu. There is a parking garage across the road that closes at 10. Worst parking and customer service experience of my life. Please dont pay to park here if you can help it. There's if some free or pay to park street parking. They have a 4 course regular menu for $90pp and a 7 course chef tasting menu for $175pp. The chef tasting menu is said to be limited time but looking at the other reviews, it seems like the chef tasting is pretty much the same and one or two courses vary. We were able to do the 7 course experience for $125 due to a promotion going on. Everyone had to do the same experience. Portions are quite small and you may leave not fully satiated. But the experience is lovely. I would say it is a little over priced, but again we pay for the ambience, presentation and experience. Drinks: I really enjoyed the drinks I was able to try. They are an experience when you receive them. The presentation is so lovely. See pictures. I got to try the lychee bomb which was excellent, and my favorite of the drinks I tried. Love the flavor pairings, sweet with some savory hints. Hocus pocus was a bourbon lovers dream. Great pairing of the berry puree and bitters with bourbon. The this is not lassi was really nice with lassi flavors with blackberry hints. And thick as well. The blush and bashful was tart and really unique. I tried it without the foam. And lastly the spring awakening, this was my least favorite. The alcohol pairing with the kiwi cucumber flavors didnt really fit to me. All the drinks definitely could tell had alcohol. Food: We did the non-vegetarian tasting with 7 courses. They do have a vegetarian tasting as well. The presentation of all the food was pretty lovely and I quite enjoyed that aspect. The sabudana vada and chana masala panisse was lovely, super flavorful and I would say my #2 for the night. Perfect start. First course - The tuna tartar pani puri was really nice and unique. I would never have thought to pair tuna with pani puri but it really worked. My #4 for the night. Second course - Hokkaido scallop... it was perfect. The hollandaise was so flavorful but did not over power the jumbo scallops natural taste. And the scallop wasnt over cooked. This is a scallop lovers dream. My #1 for the night. Third course - quail egg kaftan, this was a dense kofta, which i appreciated. Fourth course - black cod. It initially appeared undercooked and thought it would have a fishy smell and taste. Pleasantly surprised with the delicate way it was prepared yet no fishy taste or smell. Fifth course - lamb seekh kabob - this was a hand held one, which I enjoyed. All the flavors in one bite really brought thr flavors out. However this was probably my least favorite of the dishes. Sixth - pork cheeks vindaloo was really nice. Very tender and moist and rhe sauce was quite nice. Pre dessert was exquisite. It was so refreshing, cleansing, cool, and tart. It made my mouth water for dessert. Dessert we had the chocolate tart which was nice but nothing special that I noted. The chocolate and the crunch went nicely together. However if I had to choose I would go with the kesari mango dessert. My 9 year old waa able to do a la cart from the 4 course meal choices. The beef short rib was amazing! So tender, so we'll cooked, so flavorful I throughly enjoyed it. My #3 for the night. Garlic naan was soft and not to burnt. And her dessert, the kesari mango was super delicious especially the sesame brittle. Id love to try this one again. I probably wouldn't come here again unless someone specifically requested to come here. But overall my experience was a nice one. It was nice to try this once.
