Chicken Tikka Masala
Erika S.

Listen I love me some Rasa! Ever since I was first introduced to them thru Yelp. Now I am working on a 6 week project at Navy Yard. Ask me how many times I have had them in a 2 week span :-) lol. Today marks number 5. Today we were greeted by Dejuan who not only made recommendations but also supplied us with top customer service. I got a bowl with arugula, chicken, chickpeas, yellow rice, cucumbers, corn and to top it all off the chickpea noodles! The quality of food here is what makes me keep coming back. I try something new each time, whether it is the lamb, or a topping or a sauce.

Came here the night after July 4th... happened that the Nat's game just finished and also a bunch of kids were firing fireworks at cars and the crowd. Massive police activity as a result. The food was very salty! The portions also feel a little smaller than previously. We ordered online and was able to customize. By the time we arrived though, there was only one person working, so we still had to wait until he was done servicing in store customers. But he was a very very nice server.

So, I stumbled on Rasa randomly as I was trying to decide on what my taste buds desired as I walked from the Wharf to the Navy Yard. While walking past and eventually into Rasa, I immediately noticed that they were a cute, casual spot, that served Indian food. Needless to say I was sold. Rasa gives Chipotle/CAVA/Bindaas vibes (affordable food with decently healthy options). Additionally, the workers here were patient with honest recommendations, which I greatly appreciated. Prior to making such a hard decision lol, I sampled the chicken to help solidify my choice. The chicken by itself was flavored very well, which led me to get the Tikka Chance on Me Bowl. The bowl itself was great, portion wise, however there were some sauces and ingredients within the bowl that reduced the impact-fulness of that wonderfully flavored chicken. Due that, the bowl was just average to me. Overall, I had a good experience and will be open to trying something different at Rasa that amplifies the flavors of their chicken.

Summary: solid meal. We ordered for pickup, so not too much to be said about service, but it's kind of like Indian food meets CAVA/Chipotle. The portion size in my case was a bit underwhelming and they were a bit stingy with the sauce for my entree. Otherwise, the flavor was good and the shrimp was cooked very well. It's a great meal for a reasonable price and they have a good selection of drinks too.

I'm late to the Rasa train but I'm glad I'm on it now! Rasa is hella good and very reasonable for the quality of food. The decor is super cute and colorful with swing chairs included. It is very spacious for DC and more like a Chipotle style line when you enter. The menu has a great variety of bowls, drinks (nonalcoholic and alcoholic) and desserts. I've had their butter chicken bowls, mango lassi frozen yogurt and hot masala chai. All 5 stars! I'll have to try new items next time I go but I like sticking to my regular order lol.

Rasa is fabulous and I wouldn't be surprised if it keeps growing like Cava did. Like others have said, it's kind of like "Chipotle but Indian"--except there are dishes you can actually order without choosing each ingredient, they have more options for sides (the samosas are my favorite!), they have alcoholic beverages (including local beers!), they have much cuter decor (very colorful and hip), and they have an adorable origin story. In that sense, it's better than Chipotle and shouldn't be compared! Service was excellent, and I loved everything I ate. Unsurprisingly for Indian cuisine, there were plenty of options for me as a vegetarian. I highly recommend Rasa!

This is my 3rd time here. Love the food. It's fresh and healthy I think. $5 first bowl

We checked out Rasa for the first time for a quick, casual dinner after a comedy show in Navy Yard. I love Cava / fast casual bowls and Indian food, so I was excited for Rasa! The flavors were delicious. I made my own bowl, but I think next time I would try one of their curated creations. The samosa chaat was underwhelming unfortunately! I loooove samosas so I was looking forward to that side dish - but the samosas were super dry. The ambiance inside the restaurant is super cute and cozy. I will be visiting the downtown location for lunch soon!

I ordered Rasa for delivery while in my hotel in DC and I was so glad to have tried it! Really fresh flavors, good portions, and a good price. I ordered a Greens+ Grains bowl. You can build your own bowl. I ordered mine with tofu, cauliflower, rice, greens, chickpeas, tomato, avocado + chutneys. Also ordered garlic naan, samosa chaat, and masala chai cookies. The food was really delicious! Great flavors. Only downfall was I didn't get any tofu despite ordering some in the bowl and the chai cookies weren't very the best/fresh. The naan was yummy though and complimented all the flavors in the bowl well. Definitely a great option for delivery or to even dine in as it looked like a nice spot!

I have never been to a beach party in Goa, but I would love to go someday. I imagine that visiting Rasa gives a little bit of what that might be like, in the best possible way. One of their menu items mentions Goa and I have been thinking of it ever since. Service was smiling, warm, friendly, attentive and casual. I felt like I could ask anything that I needed to as a novice with Indian cuisine. We ordered the lamb bowl. It was a large amount of food/a good value... rich with complex layers of flavor. I finished mine before I could take a photo. Oops! The desserts were two varieties of "creamy crack" in that they were good enough to become addictive. I ate both and left The Date to fend for himself. :#) I'm sorry to post photos of empty dishes but the food was gone by the time that I gathered my wits. I'm sure to be back very soon and will try to get a photo.

Absolutely love the food here, so fresh, and so full of flavor ! We got the custom made bowl witch chicken, rice , spinach and tomato garlic sauce !

Dining with my friend on Lebanese cuisine was a delightful culinary adventure filled with surprises…read moreand delights. Moussaka: A classic Lebanese dish. Eggplant and hummus were simmered until soft and flavorful, with a subtle smoky aroma. The addition of mint leaves enhanced the flavor. Bone Marrow: Beef tartare with bone marrow and pomegranate seeds--how interesting! The first two provided a rich, fatty texture and intense aroma, while the latter burst in your mouth occasionally, juicy, tangy, and refreshing. Brussels Sprouts: Brussels sprouts with grapes, walnuts, fig jam, and mint yogurt--a whimsical yet magical combination... The Brussels sprouts offered a fresh, vegetal aroma and a slightly roasted aroma; the walnuts provided a nutty richness and crunch; the fruit provided a fresh sweet and sour taste and plenty of juice; and the yogurt acted as a binder between the flavors while adding a touch of minty coolness. Duck Shawarma: My friend and I thought: ...Peking duck? The skin was soft, the meat tender, not gamey, with a subtle smoky flavor; the fig and lemon sauce was sweet and refreshing; the small pita pillows held the meat securely, better than the lettuce what might have been too cold. Lamb Stuffed Grape Leaves: Black rice was wrapped in grape leaves and simmered with minced lamb. The rice absorbed the fragrance of the grape leaves, similar to lotus leaves (my friend and I thought: lamb version of sticky rice chicken糯米雞...?). The lamb, however, was served separately at the bottom of the pot and didn't absorb much flavor; overall, it was intensely sour. In short, this dish was a bit oddly designed, and it was the only one we didn't finish because the sourness was unbearable. Pita Bread: The bread was thin yet chewy, with a rough, slightly powdery surface, making it substantial and satisfying. I especially loved the "everything wrapped in a big pancake" style! This restaurant is located on the wharf near the Potomac River and boasts beautiful floor-to-ceiling windows. The spring sunlight streamed in softly.

But I went with a friend for dinner and didn't love it, and given the price, it should have been excellent. I loved the vibe and service was friendly. It's pretty inside. I ordered the Keraz Carciofi Negroni, pointing to the mocktail version. I didn't even realize there was a cocktail version and that's what they gave me. Why you would a have cocktail and mocktail with the same name is beyond me. I got lightheaded and dizzy almost immediately, but I couldn't taste alcohol, so I thought it was because I hadn't eaten, especially as I felt fine once I started eating. So this also tells me that the cocktail version is poorly made. I was definitely charged for the cocktail version. We ordered the Lebanese Journey tasting menu. Nothing really wowed, except for the bread, baba ghanoush, and mouhamara. The mouhamara surprised me because it is usually not my favorite but this version was delicious. Lamb was tasty but not good enough that I'd return for it. For a tasting menu to just have two mezeh standouts, on top of an improperly made mocktail, I'd not return to ilili.

That is really cool--and great for people who don't drink much, like me! There's also a quite large menu of mocktails, which look very intriguing, but tonight I opted for a lassi drink because I needed to get some nutrients in after a very sweaty hot yoga workout... I tried the following: - Mango lassi - thick, sweet, and very refreshing after a sweaty workout! It was my first time to try a lassi, and I thought it was great. The texture was very thick and creamy and smooth, and you can definitely taste the mango. - Veggie samosa - texture was perfect, very crispy. The sauces were outstanding and very flavorful. Possibly the best veggie samosas I've had! - Butter chicken - not the best butter chicken I've had but still a solid dish. The sauce seemed to be less creamy and less sweet than other places, yet a bit more flavorful. My partner was a bit disappointed in this dish, but I still thought it was good (I'm more about flavors, while my partner is more about creaminess). I did find the chicken meat to be a tad dry though. - Lamb & spinach - lamb meat was excellent and very tender. While the butter chicken (see above) might've been a bit dry, this lamb was cooked perfectly. And it was packed with tonsssss of flavors. - Garlic naan - texture was not as thick/soft as I would've liked, but the flavor was veryyyy garlicky, which I liked. Heads-up: It takes a while for the food to get ready. The place seems to make everything from scratch. So, order some appetizers if you're hungry while you wait for the main dishes!

I asked for the hot honey on the side but it was liquid instead of thick. It was delicious but not as spicy as I had expected. The biscuits were superb! So thick and flaky, freshly baked. I wish I had some jam on the side. The fried chicken was solid but thin so a little dry. My spouse had the burger and he said it was amazing. The fries are great but some were a little too salty. What was mind blowing and the reason we came in the first place were the Ted's Tarts. I absolutely love pop tarts from child hood but no longer eat them because I know better but these were the tarts of my adulthood dreams. We ordered one of each flavor because we were flying back to CA later that evening and also, why not? The fillings were rich and ultra flavorful. The pastry was flaky and delicate. Just WOW!
