Sometimes you don't realize the character of a business until there's adversity. I had always wanted to visit RASA for the food of course though not gonna lie also for the decor too!!! Colorful interior? Swing chairs? Blue door??? Yes, photo ops!!! While all of that exists, my first experience didn't include any of that. It was via delivery during the COVID-19 pandemic. My sister and I enjoyed their Home Cooking bowls, Chai Masala cookies, and samosas. All so good, I couldn't even snap a photo of everything but trust my word...amazing!! Going back to the beginning of my review, what I've been so impressed by is RASA's response to it all. Like everyone in the restaurant industry, these times are really the toughest ever yet I've felt nothing but good vibes since I began following them on Instagram and have appreciated their support of healthcare workers and grocery workers, who are some of many on the direct frontline. Thinking of the community and their staff and customers, that's worthy of all the love. Best build your own bowl place in DC. It lets you pile on almost as much as you can without charging extra. RASA is a fast Indian restaurant where you go through a line. Has lots of options to choose from. The food smells so good too. I had one of the bowls. It's about $10 with your choice of protein. The proteins include beef, chicken, and tofu. It's garnished with toppings of your choice. There's noodles and rice. It has all kinds of hot and sweet sauces to pour on. There's a lot of different vegetables. It's easy to get carried away with all your choices. The bowl can fill up way fast. Luckily it won't charge you for each topping, or this would be very expensive. The drinks are good too. It has various flavored lemonades and iced teas, and you'll need a drink if you get a spicy sauce. Thankfully these also seem to be unlimited refills because no one's ever said they aren't but please don't quote me on that. It also has some side items. The loaded up bowl is more than enough for me so I haven't gotten the stuff like samosas. It seems like a much better version of CAVA. It's for sure better than Chipotle. Indian version of Cava - load up your bowl to the brim with veggies, meats, toppings, and sauces! Love the hip and vibrant ambiance with hanging wicker basket chairs. If you go the DIY route and craft your own bowl, it's a bit overwhelming. There's a lot to choose from with base, protein, sauces, veggies, toppings, chutneys and dressing. It's tempting to try everything, but be warned - the flavors will get diluted and lost. My bowl had over 20 ingredients and overwhelmed with toppings, it was just too much and drawing a blank on the taste. Some of the toppings are quite spicy like the chick peas and aloo tikki. I was stuffed before I could make a dent half way. Recommend ordering a signature bowl from the menu rather than crafting your own. Although there are less ingredients, the flavors are balanced out. Next time! The soft fluffy Garlic Naan made in the dome oven pairs well with the spicy bowl and worth the extra couple of bucks. The service is super nice, Rob an African-American server, kindly gave me a complementary Garlic Naan and nice cloth Tote bag. I called and thanked him and the manager as I was touched by the kind gesture! I have always overlooked this place when looking at places to grab a quick healthy bite. That was my mistake. I was very impressed with the service, quality of the food and selection! (Hence my 5 star review.) I am of South Indian decent and my parents immigrated from south India. They would cook authentic Indian food when I was growing up. I usually stay away from Indian places because it's not really authentic or healthy. Rasa was legit! Tasted almost like my mom makes. That is a huge compliment. The food: lots of variety for based, protein, toppings, and dressings. I love that you can throw as many toppings as you want. Overall it seems pretty healthy. And lots of options for plant based/vegan/vegetarian options. (India is very vegetarian friendly.) The location: close to metro and Nats stadium and the water. Prices are a bit strange, ie $11.82, but it's still fair for DC. We had the tikka chance on me and I decided to build my own bowl. I was really impressed with all the flavors and chutneys. I don't think you could go wrong with anything here to be honest. I couldn't decide between the tofu and cauliflower and sweet potato as my main but I was told to get the tofu and cauliflower. The tamarind chili chutney was awesome but in general, there are so many flavors and spices. They do an awesome job with the grab and go concept but also make it feel like a relaxing sit down restaurant with the decoration and swings. I'd love to come back when I'm in the area again. My friend introduced me to RASA when I was visiting DC, and I think her explanation of it is pretty fitting - think of the Chipotle of Indian food with fresher ingredients. We were looking for something quick, not greasy, and filling, and RASA more than exceeded expectations. I was really appreciative that there were pre-made bowls because I'm really indecisive. When you present me with unlimited options, I love it, but I can get overwhelmed. I ordered the home cooking bowl, and WOAH. All the ingredients melded so well together and were so fresh. I especially loved the Indian rice noodles. I typically pick rice, but the noodles were a nice touch. I also liked that RASA was laid back and had plenty of seating options. Even though there were a lot of people at the restaurant, there was still plenty of seating. All of the seating was super comfy too. I tasted Rasa at a Yelp event. I was happy to see the restaurant sign after watching a ballgame at Nat's stadium. It is conveniently half a block away from the ballpark & close to metro. The restaurant is creatively decorated and has interesting artwork. There are funny sayings in the bathroom. Rasa has a similar concept to Roti. You "design" your ordered items and everything is ala carte. I had a bowl. The turmeric rice was good. The wanted chunks of tofu, instead of a small amount of tofu mixed in with peppers, onions and cauliflower. I couldn't really taste the tofu. The Brussels sprouts were just okay (1st place goes to The Hamilton. 2nd place goes to Capital Grille). The mango added a sweet flavor (it looks like corn). The coconut ginger sauce was wonderful. I first learned about RASA through a Yelp Event, and vowed to visit again after tasting their delicious Indian cuisine! The food is comforting and authentic. It's fast-casual (think Chipotle-style). I typically get the Home Cooking which is a bowl of rice noodles, turmeric ginger shrimp, tamarind chili sauce, tossed green beans, mango salsa, tamarind coconut powder, lentil crisp, tamarind ginger chutney, and mango coconut yogurt. This may sound like a lot going on, but the dish is so filling and every ingredient just goes so well with each other. There's a sweet-tanginess from the tamarind, and just enough bite from the green beans and mango salsa. It's one of my new loves. Let's also mention that RASA offers cocktails; their tamarind margarita is very tasty - although, I wish the tamarind flavor was a little stronger. From the décor, to the customer service, and the always fresh food, RASA is truly a welcomed addition to the District! The flavors were amazing and the servings are big so you can definitely split it into 2 meals. They let me try the coconut ginger sauce later and it was so delicious. I had garlic naan on the side and it was super light and crispy. To top it all off, I tried their mango lassi which was done super well. I'm obsessed with RASA. I love the concept, the decor, the food, everything. Well, except maybe the location because it's far for me and parking isn't great. But other than that, I'm a fan, and it's definitely one of the best fast casual Indian options in the area. I always make my own bowl with chicken tikka or tofu and cauliflower, tamarind chili, eggplant, green beans, and a variety of toppings, including microgreens and lentil crisps. I tried the naan once and it wasn't very flavorful, so I'd skip that. I do want to try the samosas. Staff is friendly, though they usually don't speak clearly or loudly enough, because I'm always asking them to repeat what they said. I appreciate the reusable bag with every order. As many other reviewers have mentioned, RASA is a delightfully designed fast casual Indian eatery in the style of Chipotle or Cava. The interior is beautiful, modern, and colorful. It was a pleasure to dine in while visiting DC. If you get a chance, visit their website and see how and why the restaurant was created. It's a really cute story. I'm pretty confident we saw both of the owners there the day we visited, which I love. Service was friendly and polite and provided good topping recommendations. One of the workers had her youngish child there while she was working. He was cute and caused absolutely no problems and didn't impede her much even when business picked up a little bit. I really respect businesses willing to work with their employees like that. We both had bowls with chicken tikka; my boyfriend had the full-fledged Tikka Chance on Me, whereas I just had the chicken, tomato sauce, and toasted cumin yogurt drizzle (as I'm less adventurous). I added roasted brussels sprouts to mine, and they were yummy! The chicken in both dishes was flavorful and moist. Portion sizes were generous and we were full after our meals. We also got an order of samosas and garlic naan. The naan was fresh and pillowy. I didn't like samosas very much; they were slightly burnt and not warm enough or flavorful enough. I also had a mango lassi; it was very thick and decadent. While I'm not sure RASA can quite compare to a sit-down Indian dining experience in terms of taste, it's fast, great for beginners/the less adventurous, and a lovely place to sit and eat. read more

My girlfriend was looking for vegetarian/vegan friendly places and this place came up on our radar. I love a good deal and saw that they offered a Party Pack for 2 so I was definitely in. The Party Pack comes with two bowls, mini samosas, a naan, 2 drinks and masala chai cookies. We ordered the Tikka Chance On Me and Aloo Need is Love bowls, a regular mini samosa, garlic naan, and two Mango Lassis. The food traveled really well, minus the naan but that could be the traffic I was in. The samosas were filled with the classic potatoes and peas, went well with the chutneys (mint and tamarind). The Tikka Chance on Me bowl had a lot of toppings/flavors going on and was super filling. The chicken tikka was super flavorful and there was a generous serving of it as well. My girlfriend's Aloo Need is Love bowl also had a lot of toppings and was very large. We're not huge eggplant fans but it was still good and she was able to turn it into 2 meals. The cookies definitely had a strong chai flavor and was good despite it not exactly being the chewiest cookie. The mango lassi was pretty standard but a great compliment to the huge meal. RASA!!! Sooo happy to be working a block away from here. This may be my new go to spot. I'm always craving Indian but don't feel like spending $18 for butter chicken for lunch; that's outrageous. But RASAAAA!!! Okay so I get anxious making my own bowl at new places so I got the Tikka Chance on Me and it was delicious!!! Perfect level of spice, extremely flavorful, and a good amount of food! So, walking down the street, there were just so many freaking options on this street. I was having a hard time to choose what to go to, but I finally settled on RASA as it was something I've never heard before and also it was Indian food. It was a different experience as RASA followed the business model of Chipotle, except it was Indian food. To be honest, I have no idea what combination of toppings I got. But I do remember that the amount of combinations was endless. So for me to even say that, you can imagine if there's something you like or not like, that's completely up to. If you're too lazy or too indecisive to pick then you might enjoy that they had pre-made combinations. Your choices are purely up to you, but I don't think there could be any wrong combination. I mean, don't take my word for it, but I think if you have a good idea of what would go well together then I don't think it can go wrong. RASA is a quick in and out. Inside I have to say it's a bit on the gentrification side where it's geared towards more younger generation, with the hanging seats and all of that. You can dine in of course, but also you can take your meal with you which I saw plenty of people do. 4.5 stars for me, Rasa is a solid option among the row of fast casual restaurants. It could be described as an Indian chipotle - you can order a la carte or select from one of their pre-optioned bowls. We tried a few, but the easy favorite was the chicken tikka bowl. Great flavors, the palak was my favorite ingredient out of everything, and all of the ingredients/flavors worked together. It's like getting a family style Indian meal where you have a bit of everything, except in a bowl format for one with the price being super reasonable (around $9-10 per bowl). Also tried the lamb bowl, and the beef but preferred chicken overall. The mango lassi is a decent size and pretty good (could have more mango flavor) but still hit the spot. Samosas were ok and the masala chocolate chip cookies were interesting too. Would definitely come back, but secretly hoping that they expand into NW DC. read more

Sahil, the owner, took our order and was extremely friendly and helpful with introducing the menu to us. You have the option to choose one of their already crafted bowls ("We got you" section of the menu), or you can choose to build your own bowl ("You got this" section of the menu). We ended up ordering the mango lassi and gin&tonic, but were fresh, flavorful, and refreshing. This is a great restaurant for anyone looking for Indian cuisine, a quick bite, or a vegan meal. Had a very weird experience here. Couldn't remember where to order, so I asked an employee. They directed me where to go. I ordered. Another employee started making me a Caul Me Maybe bowl. (Which is a decent pre-selected bowl at a fair price. Hence two stars. Would've recommend that bowl for your weeknight takeout rotation...) Anyway. I went over to the cash register, trusting the other employee to make my bowl while I paid. But the person working the cash register kept telling me I to go stand near the employee making my food. There was no one else in line, mind you. So I kept kinda venturing to the cash register to hint that I'd like to pay and get home sooner on this chilly evening. But they kept telling me where to stand. Like a lot. Very creeped out, I left because this employee kept treating me like an idiot. Which - the jury is still out on that one - but they don't know that! Kind of a bummer - ended up with no food. I've tried ordering online before, but found I ended up waiting longer than in-person.
