    Injera Nachos
    Matt L.

Injera crisps make for a great substitute to tortilla chips. They're crispy, hold their structure, and are the carriers of some hefty vegan ingredients on top. Don't really miss the meat or cheese at all in this dish. The vegan substitutes give you the full nacho experience you still expect: crunchy, saucy, and creamy. Texturally marvelous. It's labeled as a starter but I think the dish (though deceptively small on first impression) is enough to serve as a meal. I'd suggest getting two platters to split between two people so you get a little bit of everything.

What a fabulous restaurant! My friend and I had high top window seats and we ordered drinks and several dishes, all of which were wonderful. Excellent service and a very pretty place, much bigger than it looks when you first walk in. We are looking forward to returning to this amazing VEGAN Ethiopian restaurant!

Excellent Ethiopian vegan restaurant in Greenwich Village. I had the lions mane mushroom burger with skinny fries. The sandwich was served on a decadent brioche bun. Delicious. Appetizer was vegan Mac and cheese. Dessert was tiramisu , their version was a mix of a mousse like texture and ice cream , simply divine. Highly recommend 10/10.

I love a vegan dish and couldn't wait to try this spot. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked into a really nicely decorated place. I was sat, and Noah was my server, and he was super nice. I ordered the following: Fig Fig Bang Bang drink Ras Breakfast combo French Toast Spice Mac and Cheese Breakfast Borrito All the food was actually really good! My favorite being the Ras Breakfast combo! I also liked their cocktails. I really had a good experience!

A menu disappointment elsewhere led me here happily, after singing nearby. This is hands down the best Ethiopian food I've had in a while AND the best vegan food I've had in a while! I beg for an intro to the chef so he can teach me how to make lentils taste like this!!!! Connect me please so I can cook lentils better. These were the most perfectly flavorful lentils and veggies! The combination platter options were hard to decide between but I felt the need for beet cleansing so I decided upon the pictured platter and could eat these nearly every day of the week. The server was helpful and kind. The venue is stunning and culturally infused so well. They have an area in the back that could likely be used for a private event and I love that the restaurant is Ethiopian owned! Yuuuummmm - eat well - from your fegan (fake vegan) elite friend. Go, enjoy!!!!!!

OMG, how have I waited so long to review this place??? Maybe I am always in an amazing food coma when I leave? I LOVE Ethiopian and will go out of my way to hit up a recommended place, will always stop in DC. and surprisingly found good Ethiopian in Iceland. I can confidently say, this is, by far, my FAVORITE Ethiopian place anywhere. Both locations (one is in Brooklyn) are equally amazing. Where to start.... The food! Fresh, light, perfectly seasoned.... I could go on and on but then I will just make myself hungry :) The atmosphere? Chill, nice tunes, super friendly staff. The owners are around a lot. You won't know who they are most likely cause they roll up their sleeves and dive in and do a little bit of everything to ensure diners are happy. If you've read this far, you get the idea. GO! I just hope I don't regret writing this and can't get a reservation ;)

Came here on a Tuesday evening (with a res) and got seated immediately! The ambiance is fantastic and the service is great as well. I am vegetarian so when I heard Ras was opening a location in WV I was so excited! Their menu had a lot of items I wouldn't normally get to try because they are meat based so that was cool! Here's what we ordered (shared between 2 people): Tomato Fitfit - one of my favorite dishes here and a must order at all ethiopian restaurants! the acidic and vinegary tomato and injera "salad" make a great compliment to the food. This is definitely on the very acidic side but I didn't mind it at all! Mama's Tofu - this was a super unique item and I loved it! I've never had tofu spiced with berbere before, it was really good! would recommend Mercato Platter - This was the only let down of the meal which was the main dish. My friend and I shared this platter and thought everything was a little lackluster. The missir and shiro specifically were not very good - missir was very gingery with no other flavor and the shiro was really tart for some reason. The vegetable items were better but still didn't totally hit the mark. Overall, this restaurant is great for vegan/vegetarians looking to try some ethiopian food! I wouldn't expect very authentic flavors but it definitely satisfies the craving.

I grew up eating Eritrean/Ethiopian food so was super excited to try vegan version of my favorite dishes. While Ethiopian food always has plenty of vegan options, Ras took it to the next level by crafting vegan versions of traditional meat dishes. I also notice that there's a few people/groups that have a chokehold on the vegan restaurant industry in the city, so it's nice to see a smaller business breakthrough. The ambiance in here is amazing, it's dimly lit with beautiful art across the walls and stunning cutlery. I loved the vibe and think it's a great spot for a date or dinner with a small group of friends. It's always interesting to see a modern take on Ethiopian food, the injera here is ripped into pieces when served instead of the traditional circle which was... interesting. We got a couple of cocktails that were fine, none that particularly aligned with my taste. For food, we tried the seitan tibs and the mercato plate, both were delicious. I truly loved every item on the plate and just wished there was more of it, the portions could benefit from being a bit larger. Our server was on top of it throughout -- she was at our table what felt like every 5 minutes checking in. I'd definitely come again and am really curious to try the brunch menu, excited that Ras made their way to Manhattan!

Okay, let's talk about *Ras* in Manhattan--because WOW. First of all, Andrew? Absolutely amazing. The service was top-tier! And let's get into these happy hour deals because they did *not* disappoint. We kicked things off with espresso martinis, and let me tell you... *chef's kiss* perfection. Then came the chick'n sandwich and the mercato--both were 10/10, no notes! If you haven't been to Ras yet, consider this your sign. You'll thank me later!

The space is super cute as soon as you enter great lighting, very clean got sat right away! The waiter was very attentive and informative. The mashed avocado was really good. Just wish the portion was a little bit more other than that it was tasty. The Mercato platter was cool.. I probably should've eaten it right away cause by the time I started eating it it was cold to me, but I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be served that way lol...either way I'll try it again ! The chkn' sandwich made with lion's mane mushroom was delicious. I will definitely come back for that sandwich.

Shashamane Bowl, Ethiopian Scrambled Eggs and Mac 'N Cheese
    Elisa M.

The best food. My husband had the ETHIOPIAN SCRAMBLED EGGS and a side of Mac 'n cheese (I thought he was basic for picking that as a side, but they were very good). I had the SHASHAMANE BOWL - WOOOOOOW! This was an amazing experience. Everything was tasty. The decor was very colorful and interesting, adding to a very cool ambiance. We were served by a very friendly woman, and the owner checked in on us (we figured it was him because of the art across the restaurant that was so similar to his likeness). Highly recommend. Cannot wait to go back!

We've been to Ras Plant Based in Crown Heights a few times and decided to try the West Village location for brunch. While the space was cute and the staff was friendly upon greeting us, the overall experience was frustrating and poorly handled. We ordered from both the brunch and all-day menus. I selected the Spiced Mac & Cheese ($25) from the brunch menu, while my partner ordered the Chicken Sandwich and we shared the Avocado with Chips as a starter. Drinks and appetizers arrived as expected, but when our main dishes came, my partner received his chicken sandwich and fries, while I was given a side of mac & cheese--something listed for $8-$9 on their menu, not the entrée I had ordered. When I pointed this out, the server claimed there was no $25 mac & cheese dish on the menu. I asked to see the menu, and when he brought it over and saw it clearly listed, he simply said, "Well, we don't have that." Instead of addressing the mistake properly, they just stared at me and made no effort to resolve the issue. Eventually, they offered to bring me something else, which was fine, but they took away the side of mac & cheese as if they were going to either put it back in the pot or throw it out. I had to stop them and ask for it back because wasting food at a restaurant should be the last thing happening. The new dish came quickly, and the food itself was good--but the way the situation was handled was bizarre and unprofessional. To make matters worse, when the bill arrived, they charged us for the side of mac & cheese that they had planned to throw out or re serve . At the very least, they should have comped my entrée (which I had to wait for) rather than the avocado appetizer which was $13 and the side of Mac was $11 basically breaking us even the cost is not the issue but the inconvenience and lack of concern is. Additionally, the checkout process was a mess. It took forever to get anyone's attention. My partner eventually went to the bar and asked for a small box to pack up leftovers. The bartender acknowledged the request but then just stood behind the bar doing nothing despite the boxes being right in front of him. When the waiter finally returned, he handed us a large box without asking what we needed. Since we were running errands all day and had limited space, this was inconvenient--and to top it off, the large box leaked inside my partner's backpack, ruining his gym clothes. Overall, the food was good, but the lack of organization, poor service, and questionable handling of orders make it hard to justify a return visit. With so many great restaurants in NYC, there's no reason to deal with an operation that can't get the basics right. Until they improve their service and management, I wouldn't recommend dining here--especially at the West Village location.

Came here for a cocktail and I was thoroughly impressed. I didn't eat but the menu looked amazing and I can't wait to go and try the food to update my review.

We shared everything and tried both the Meat and Vegetarian combinations. Each vegetarian combo came with three veggie dishes. For the meats, we got Ye Siga Alicha Wot (stewed beef with sauce) and Doro Wot (chicken legs with berbere). Personally, I preferred the beef--it was very flavorful and tender. For the veggie choices, we had: Fasolia: Sautéed string beans and carrots Shiro Wot: Chickpea sauce Yemisir Wot: Red lentil stew--one of my favorites Ater Kik Alicha: Cooked split peas, very tasty Yatakilt Alicha: Cabbage, carrots, and potatoes Key Sir: Red beets, carrots, and potatoes--another favorite The portions were really generous, and everything came with injera, their spongy sourdough flatbread made from teff flour. The bread was a nice balance and paired perfectly with all the food. The service was great--friendly and attentive without rushing us out, so you can relax and hang out after your meal. It was also really fun to eat with my hands, which added to the authentic experience. The food tasted so good and genuine. Bonus points: the restaurant is close to public transport, and they accept both cash and card. Overall, I give this place a 10/10. Highly recommended!
