    Sweet plantains

LOVE this place! what a great discover finding this amazing place. In love of Nigerian food now, I'm Venezuelan and I was so surprised how our flavors are similar but the spicy part witch was a plus! So good! so fresh! love it Also as a note: We went today to pick up 16 bowls for our team at work for an event, and we schedule last minute, they were so nice helping and at the same time taking orders for customers, I was really impressed by them, and with smile and kind! love it!

Party bowl with peppered chicken, plantains, jollof rice and moi moi.

I got the standard Party Bowl which came with pepper chicken, plantains, moi moi, jollof rice, and greens. I really liked the peppered chicken, moinmoin, rice, plantains and the spicy sauce. The moinmoin was flavorful and something I'd never tried before. I admire the concept and think it's a great way to introduce more people to Nigerian food! Next time I'd like to try the goat stew because it looked . What kept it from being 5 stars: The good greens are a cabbage slaw that lacked flavor or seasoning so next time I would make my own bowl and try one of the other sides. The plantains are diced up, not a generous portion. Also worth noting there is no seating, so this is truly a grab-and-go lunch spot.

I walked in was greeted by very friendly staff. They walked me through the menu and recommended I try the chicken party bowl for my first time. The best part of the bowl was the jollofrice. It was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. I felt the chicken could have used a little bit more seasoning. The plantains were a little hard and could have also used some additional seasoning. I wasn't sure how I felt about the Moin-Moin. Good for getting something quick and the food portions are bigger than they look online. Limited seating inside, better for takeout.

The diversity in cuisine Midtown needs but doesn't deserve... I've been to Dundu 3 times now, and it's criminally underrated. Sure there could be more options, but I always order the Party Bowl and walk away satisfied. Yes plantains, yes chicken, yes greens, yes moinmoin, yes joloff!! I do need more than just one sauce though.

Goat Stew with Brown Rice, Greens, and MoinMoin ($22)

Try: Goat Stew. Why: I ordered the Goat Stew with Brown Rice, Greens, and MoinMoin. I think they gave me some extra goat meat and brown rice since they were out of Jollofrice. Goat meat was cut in cubes and was juicy and flavorful. The MoinMoin was soft and also flavorful - my first ever trying steamed bean cake with eggs and fish! Reminded me of an egg soufflé texture. They forgot the Sweet Onion Dressing so I mixed the greens with rice and meat, since, which added some crunch texture to each bite. I was hoping for more Efo Riro because I only saw kale and couldn't see smoked turkey or honeycomb tripe. Overall, I had a delightful first Nigerian meal experience. Notes: I came at 6pm on a Wednesday and there was no one in front of me. Seemed like all the hot food was taken to the back since there was no hot food in front, only greens on display. Perhaps, because they were slow and heading towards closing time. There was only one worker in the back cutting veggies until someone came out to help take my order. They were helpful in walking me through the options since it was my first time. Service was a bit slow and I was in a hurry for a quick dinner bite before my last virtual meeting for my team on West Coast. A good Nigerian cuisine addition conveniently located in Midtown.

I didn't know how to order from this place so I had to ask the staff. She explained that I could do a custom-made bowl or a pre made bowl. I went with a pre made bowl, which has a protein peppered grilled chicken, jollafrice, good greens, plantains, and sweet onion vinaigrette. I didn't particularly enjoy it too much due to the mild bland taste. I would rather have something with a little spice to it. I suggest not getting the vinaigrette. There wasn't a line when I went to get the food. Even if there was a line, it would probably go fast as there aren't that many options.

Goat stew bowl. Maybe 2 bites of goat stew if that.

I really hate to give the first less than positive review for a new small business, but my experience here was notably subpar. I'd never had the chance to try Nigerian food before but have heard a lot of great things from Nigerian friends, so I thought I'd check out this new spot for lunch. I opted for the goat stew ($16), and completed the bowl with jollof rice, honey beans, moin moin, and efo riro. The first sign of trouble was when the server opened the steam tray with the goat stew - there was just a small amount left covering maybe 1/4 of the very bottom of the 8" diameter cylindrical container. This was a bit odd since it was 11:30am on a Monday and I was the only one there so it seemed likely to be reheated leftovers. The server scooped a tiny spoonful of the stew onto my bowl. Cue the Ice Cube quote from 22 Jump Street - "Y'all rationing around here??" I swear I never do this but I asked the server out loud if that was the entire meat portion and she responded with a mildly abashed yes. I don't want to harp on it too much so I'll just leave the photo here. For $18 after tax I am hoping for an actual lunch and not a snack sized portion where I can individually count the number of fingertip-sized meat nubs. The server also put the (admittedly tasty) cup of hot sauce into the liquid honey beans. This is not a good idea for obvious reasons, I hope it's not standard operating procedure. I enjoyed the taste of the food, and would love to try more Nigerian food in the future, but Midtown is crowded on every block with various lunch-bowl concepts where you can get a protein portion more substantial than garnish.

Akara, Moin Moin and sweet plantains.
    Rajeev L.

Fast African, what a concept! First, the lady here is very helpful in explaining their menu and how things come together! There's a good variety to choose from and you can think of this like a Chipotle or a Naya except for African food. There are two meals you can choose from or build your own. I went with salad as a base and had the Akara fritters as my protein. You get 2 sides, and I chose the Moin Moin and sweet plantains. Top it all off with your choice of dressing. I didn't know what to get and went with her suggestion, which was great. The food is tasty and heavier than you would think. The portions are also fairly large, so it is a good value.

Vegan bowl with the stew greens poured over it to make it edible.

No crowds, if there is a small line, it moves incredibly fast. Ordered the Box Combo, and the chicken was piping hot, crispy, and perfectly breaded. And obviously, the Cane's Sauce is always a bonus. The Texas toast was buttery and thick, just the way it should be. The staff here deserves a raise; they manage the Midtown chaos with total grace and keep the seating area surprisingly clean for how high-volume it is. The breading on these chicken fingers was nothing special and again, so so small. Service was fast at least, but the place itself was dirty and virtually every table needed a wipe down. I know, I know, it's Penn Station, it's supposed to be a little grimy. Honestly, if these chicken fingers weren't so tiny and my fries were properly cooked I could deal with a little grime. But you order at the front, pick up your own food, box it yourself when you are done, and discard your own trash. I was the server today. That should be noted upfront because the website does not exactly make that clear. That said, the food was good. I got a stir fry dish with beef, fries, tomatoes and platanos. Mama bear got a Spanish chaufa which is basically the Peruvian version of fried rice. She seemed to enjoy it. I also got a side of squash soup which was pretty good. We washed it all down with Jarritos, the Mexican soda. Solid choice. Now the restroom situation. Chirp does not have a public restroom. My mom was bothered by that and I could see her starting to make it a thing. I had to nip that in the bud. I get it, I understand, but that is not the hill I die on. No restroom, no worries. It is what it is. The cashier was nice. The food got me full quick. I brought some home for wifey since she is a fan of Spanish food too. Overall Chirp is fine for what it is. The setup inside this dimly lit restaurant had a bunch of steam tables offering various beef and chicken dishes, a handful of rice options, and a bunch of salads/fruits. Having no idea what we were looking at, we asked the friendly owner for some advice.
