We wanted something quick and saw this place had okay reviews, so we gave it a shot. We ordered the chicken teriyaki, pork soup dumplings, and spring rolls. The pork soup dumplings arrived literally spilling pink/red liquid that looked like blood. My mother had never tried soup dumplings before, so we were hoping for a fun experience, but she immediately spit it out. I brought it back and showed the staff the uncooked pork and the blood/red liquid on the napkin. They simply re-steamed them and brought them back except now there was no soup left inside the dumplings at all. The chicken teriyaki was tough and chewy, almost like jerky, as if it had been overcooked on an extremely hot grill or deep fried too long. The spring rolls were mediocre at best, with vegetables inside that had a mushy, paste-like texture. Very disappointing. Honestly, the best part of the meal was the rice. On the way to a basketball game at MSG, my husband and I realized - we need food! Didn't have a plan in mind, but Emperor Dumpling caught our eye as we walked by (looked clean, smelled good, and it wasn't crowded so hopefully we could get in and out quickly). I was happy to see certain items on the menu were designated as vegetarian. If I lived in town I would come back and try all their veggie friendly options. The small order of veg dumplings was a very reasonable price and portion. I thought they were well stuffed with veggies. I was a little disappointed with the dumpling wrapper- i prefer a lighter softer wrapper. But overall I still ate it all, and it was a quick nice snack. I recently tried emperor dumpling thanks to the Too Good To Go app and the amount of food you get for the price is amazing! Today I decided to order again and tried their lunch special of chicken teriyaki with white rice and their miso soup. Tried this place after getting a good discount. I was surprised by the food. It was pretty good. The best thing I could say about this place is that it's good Chinese food. It's a little more pricey than the standard Chinese takeout place. Still, it's worth checking out and I'll likely be back. As for the food I got, the fried chicken was delicious but not fresh or crispy. The white rice was about as good as you could hope for. The beef was thin, tender, and tasty. First off, I will be returning again. I wasnt feeling dumplings even tho thats what the place is known for so this review in a way isnt as accurate as it could have been. I needed to grab with my hands to pull. Thats pretty unacceptable to me with meat if any-sort. the noodles were alright, it was chewy like its suppose to be. The soup... way too salty, almost if it was made from concentrated or msg based... so salty i couldnt drink it... portion size is fair. Ambiance- not much to say, its well lit, decors are simple and matches the theme of a dumpling place. It looks and feels clean. Service- service was excellent, the cashier was either the owner or someone in charge. Definitely see him get off the register to bring me my food even though it was supposedly a counter pick fast-food style spot. The pan-fried versions are leathery-skinned atrocities that may well have been deep-fried - no crispy bottom/chewy upper skins but rather an arid mealy mess. Avoid, avoid, AVOID. On my second visit, I was extremly disappointed by Emperor Dumpling. The "crystal shrimp" (har koow) was not as tastey as it was on my first visit. The shrimp, which had been pink and tasty, was pale and lifeless. What made it edible however, was the soy sauce, which may have been blended with vinegar. Finished every drop. The "SesameBall," however, was completely inedible. The outer crust was over fried and tge inner dough was tough. It tasted really-heated, but maybe it was freezer burned. The person who made it asked me to explain this to the person who had taken the order. I showed them a half eated ball and returned the others untouched. They did not offer a refund.
