I've been on a bit of a kick checking out fast casual "like Chipotle, but ___ genre of food" in NYC. Kati Shop definitely fits that mold. The ordering experience was quick and easy. They don't have too many choices, which I appreciate. The prices were quite good. Under $15 for an entree. The food was good, but not great. It had limited ingredients. I had a pan-fried tofu protein, rice, curry sauce, and a couple of sides. The best part were the sides -- I enjoyed the mushroom larb (great flavor), and a cucumber salad (fresh produce). It was a reasonable choice for a quick and relatively inexpensive meal. I'll probably do it again. read more

I'm happy to revisit Kati Shop. I'm not nearby enough to come more. I ordered: half riceberry half cabbage, lemongrass chicken, panang curry on the side, larb mushroom, mashed potatoes Quality is just as good as the first time I went. I can't tell if their recipe changed or my palette changed because it seems less spicy this time. Panang curry is the more typical orange curry that I'd find in Malaysian places. I have massaman again this time from the mashed potatoes and it seems sweeter than I expected. It was a nice pairing with the hearty mashed potatoes. Larb mushrooms was the spiciest item of the meal. I still like it with the umami from fish sauce and those white mushrooms. Lemongrass chicken is high quality chicken as before. It doesn't have hard edges like last time but the insides are still not as juicy as they can be. It still tasted very good don't get me wrong. Their Thai teas are now bottled up which is very convenient for people to drink on the go or save for later. The cap situation isn't the best though since leftover liquid around the top of the bottle will slide down when you screw on the cap. I like how there's no ice in there by default. It won't dilute the tea. It doesn't feel overly sweet even without the ice, so idk what other shops are selling where they insist on needing the ice. This isn't my top top top Thai tea place nor can I say it tastes particularly unique but I like the overall balance. I even bought another bottle to bring home. I sat down to eat this time and I was happy to see a nonstop flow of customers whether it's delivery or order on the spot. There are a couple of flies buzzing around. Tolerable but better if they weren't there. I just realized today that their kitchen is across the hallway from their serving counter. The half glass is a nice touch to let customers see what's going on inside. My mouth was a bit dry after eating this but I think it's reasonable. Even if they don't add msg separately, all the fish sauce they use has msg already. read more

We finally made it here after trying for the last couple of years (timing just never worked out). The meals are very good and staff I excellent. It was a nice lunch and a chance to get my Thai food fix. I got the chicken with Massaman curry and the cucumber salad with the sweet potatoes. My husband got the coriander steak and green curry with the mashed potatoes and sweet potato. Both were great. I wish I had done the red curry but I was not in the mood for spicy but the sample was good. The massaman curry was on the sweet side but not bad. Ordered the Salmon platter with Green Curry with Jasmine rice + cucumber salad and kale salad as my two sides. Salmon: nice size portion guys! Also, how impressive to cook salmon perfectly in a fast casual restaurant. That's really hard to do. It was moist, flakey and so tender. Green curry: I was so happy to taste the SPICE! I'm always disappointed in curry not being spicy enough because I love a lot of heat. This was packed with flavor, a gorgeous green color and deliciously spicy. Nailed it! Jasmine rice: again, perfectly cooked. It kind of was like a sticky rice but with Jasmine so I loved that I could use chopsticks while eating it. Kale salad and cucumber salads: the kale salad needed more of that delicious orange dressing. Was a little dry but the pieces of kale that had dressing on it was very yummy. The cucumber salad tasted like plain cucumber, tomato and red onion so I wish I had some fresh lime to squeeze on it. All in all, these guys nailed it. The super high overall star rating is not overhyped. They charge a decent price for a very good portion with excellent clean flavors so how could this not be a total win! Bravo. read more

I appreciated the flexibility with the bae, and as an fyi the chicken portions were more generous than the tofu (my friend ordered the chicken). This hole in the wall will surprise you in many ways. A "kati shop" but Thai, not Indian? Yes. Actual Thai style curries with a lot of flavor? Yes. Chipotle but actually good? Yes (I kid.) Anyway, this is an excellent food option in this area. I've gotten food from here twice; once there and once as a take-out order. They'll give a sample of their curries if you want to make sure you can tolerate their spice levels. I'd personally recommend it as I haven't had Thai curries with this much flavor and heat from most restaurants. The steak here is cut very thin and it absorbs flavor wonderfully. I am a big fan of their riceberry which is similar to black rice found in Chinese places or purple rice in Korea with a great nutty aftertaste. Their mushroom which is also a little spicy is a very good side though I found their egg nam phrik a bit boring by comparison. If you want something to help with the heat, the somtum slaw/cabbage is also good. Friendly staff and an excellent lunch/dinner option. I wish they were closer to my workplace. read more

A delicious and quick option for lunch! I couldn't decide what to get, everything looked so good! I ended up with a mix of berry grain and white rice, sesame tofu, grilled zucchini and spicy mushrooms. A great combination of flavors and I absolutely loved the sauces! The staff let me try a few so that I was sure I got the one I liked the best. It was so much food that I had leftovers for another meal. At $11 and change, it's one of the cheaper options for lunch in the area and a generous portion of food, well worth it! I'll be back for another meal! read more

My friend encouraged me to check out Kati Shop and I'm so glad I did. This comforting Thai lunch was the perfect thing to warm me up on a brisk day. Ordered: Lemongrass chicken: it came with tender strips of chicken breast (a generous portion, too), a choice of sauce (I chose massaman curry), jasmine rice, and a choice of two sides (I chose cucumber salad and sweet potatoes). The massaman curry was flavorful without being too spicy and was a little creamy. The cucumber salad was fresh tasting and complimented the chicken and curry nicely. I loved the sweet potatoes. Chipotle style fast casual Thai place. One of my favorite restaurants in the area. The food is surprisingly good for a casual place. The curry sauces are extremely flavorful. I typically get salmon over shredded cabbage with Penang curry, cucumber and mushroom sides, and extra fish sauce. Beware the spicy curries really pack a punch, not watered down to American level of spicy. Portions are perfectly sized. The choices are healthy, tasty, and low carb/paleo/vegetarian/pescatarian friendly. It's a little pricey for a walk in restaurant but honestly tastes better than any number of sit down Thai places in the neighborhood. Lines can be very long but also move fast. I love Kati Shop and their delicious, fast casual Thai food. I haven't been in the area for a bit, and I miss their curries, especially my favorite massaman curry. It's the one non-spicy curry they have on the menu (and some of the others can get really spicy), and it just tastes like comfort food with its rich, warming spices and seasonings. I really like it on top of their lemongrass chicken, but also as the "gravy" to their mashed potatoes, something I would have never thought about doing with curry. Everything I've had there has been good, and hopefully I'll be able to get some more curry soon! read more

A great fast casual Thai place. I've been coming to Kati Shop a few times in the past couple months when I'm feeling something a bit heavier. I really enjoy the riceberry base (like Korean purple rice) with tofu. I get the green and panang curries which I think are the perfect level of spice. I've tried a variety of sides and I like the cucumbers, green beans, and cauliflower the most. Kati has plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans which is amazing. Also, there is a very minimal wait when coming at around 1 PM. The servers are super friendly and nice. My friend and I stopped by the Kati Shop the other day for lunch and we were quite impressed with everything. I love the fact that they focus on authentic Thai curries and it was actually their family who was in kitchen making all the various curries. Personally, I see a lot of Pad Thai and other Thai noodle dishes that having a place that focused on the curries was appealing to me. So the way how this place works is that you pick a base which can be jasmine rice, riceberry or cabbage. Then you a pick a protein (salmon, tofu, etc.), a curry sauce (4 choices) and then two sides. For me, I got the riceberry which I find very comparable to the Korean purple rice. I thought that having this option was a great choice on their part. I also picked the salmon as my protein since I haven't had it in a while and was craving it. She also allowed us to mix two curries together so I opted for the Panang and the Massaman curries. Both were fantastic! Those were the two that I am more familiar with which is why I ended up picking those two. The Green curry would have also been a decent choice but their Kati signature curry was extremely spicy! Even for me, who absolutely loves all things spicy, did not feel comfortable choosing that. The two sides that I got was the larb mushroom and the healthy green beans. Personally, I liked the green beans more than the larb mushrooms. There was a hint of sourness in the mushrooms that I didn't particularly enjoyed. I'm just not a fan of sour things so if you are then definitely try the mushrooms! My friend got the chicken and riceberry with the same two curries that I had picked. For his sides, he got the mushrooms and the somtum slaw. Unlike me, he really enjoyed the mushrooms and didn't care much for the slaw. Lesson of the day: everyone has different tastes so while I didn't like the mushrooms at all, my friend basically inhaled that side down. We also opted for an additional side because we both wanted to check out the cucumber salad. This side was actually both of our favorites! The cucumbers were so refreshing once we paired it with our individual curry plates. And because it was so refreshing, it also allowed us to eat more of our main dishes. I also loved the fact that they serve genuine coconut water in a coconut there. It was so fresh and absolutely delicious. If you're there, definitely grab one of these to try! read more
