    Yam

Went here for an early dinner - food was pricy but good. The dishes were innovative and had interesting flavors. We especially liked the yam and squash with focaccia. They were severely understaffed when I was there, to the point that multiple people around us cancelled their dishes and opted to leave earlier. However, the manager came over to our table took our order and made sure we were taken care of in a timely manner. She was extremely kind and I greatly appreciated how she stepped in when they did not have a lot of servers. In large part because of their great staff, and also because of the interesting vegetarian options, I would go back.

Lovely space, everything can be veganized, and I love how the menu changes with the season. The carrot wontons and chestnut dessert were unreal! The service was also super, Adam was a great server and multiple employees checked in on our table throughout the night

Food was a little overpriced for the quantity and taste but the quality was good. The corn wontons were spicy and yummy. The hummus was fresh and yummy. The pasta was cooked perfectly but the walnut and mushroom sauce was fine. The chocolate cake was too sweet and not worth it. Vibe was beautiful service was overall good.

Delicious food. Great and friendly service. Super cool and swanky vibe. I left stuffed and happy and would come back to try more! Standouts for me were the dates and the whole roasted cauliflower.

My friend and I had a res on a busy weekend night. Cute spot, really kind servers. The food was OK, honestly not all of it was worth the price in my opinion. We started with the dosa and lettuce cups. They were both OK, nothing to write home about, and the lettuce cups had a really interesting kick. The bolognese was a standout - delicious! And then came dessert. Things went very right and very wrong. The ice cream sundae was delicious and unique - a generous portion that we could've shared. But the apple tart unfortunately did not live up to the same standard. It tasted of salt and water, with no real sweetness despite how delicious it looked (my friend and I both tried it and were unsure if this was how it was supposed to taste or if someone had swapped sugar for salt).

    Creamy Baked Artichoke

My meal was absolutely delicious, and I really enjoyed the creative vegetarian and vegan options. Artichoke - creamy as the name says, with breadcrumbs to provide a little crunch, and subtle tartness from lemon and freshness from the herbs. The sourdough it's served with has great developed flavor and nice open crumb. The server told me this is seasonal, so get it before it's gone. Steamed tofu - the tofu is just a bit firmer than a pudding, covered with a tart and savory tomato-ey broth. Mushrooms add a bit of textural variety and savoriness. The best parts are the crispy yuba and toasty fried peanuts, which add a crunch and nutty flavor. The cilantro helps brighten everything up as well. Mont Blanc - rich, fluffy, and nutty, without being too sweet. The whole thing kind of explodes after breaking into it because of the hard shell, but that's not a big deal. Easy to forget it's totally vegan. Three courses came out to $94 with tax and tip. While the cost was worth it, I think this would've worked out better coming with a larger group. Splitting four dishes between two people would've reduced the cost a bit and hit the right portion size.

    Chutneys for dosa
    Ash B.

Went back for their brunch and had the dosa with sambal, egg, cheddar cheese, mint, and dill. The dosa was tasty and the texture was good. It was very filling as well. However, it did lack flavor -- it should have been paired with chutney like dosa usually is or had more sambal / Asian spices and flavor. The honey ginger tonic was light and refreshing.

Heard good things about them and came for their vegetarian brunch with my vegan friend. The food was pretty good, especially for american vegetarian fare - nothing was mindblowing to me as someone who eats across the spectrum, but you could tell there were quality ingredients being used and care being taken into the dishes they offered. The cappuccino was just okay (admittedly, as a coffee snob) The pancakes were fluffy, but delicate, and fall apart easily but they tasted light and bright which was enjoyable. The lettuce cups were also tasty, and quite light. Definitely add this to your list if you're a vegetarian, and I hear they have a good dinner service too. For me, it's a place I would take my vegetarian friends. Keep up the good work!

    Beet tartare

abcV has a lovely atmosphere and on a Friday night it wasn't packed, you could likely get seated without a reservation. I tried the sparkling elixir beverage and it wasn't the strongest start. I'd prefer it a bit more sweet and with stronger elements of the fruit flavors. Like many others have mentioned, the price point is pretty steep for what you're getting. They're all small plates in the $20-$35 range with really just a few bites of vegetables. We tried the "crispy smoked chicken of the woods mushroom" which was essentially fried mushroom -- definitely the most "meaty" dish we had that evening. It was well fried with a seasoned crispy exterior, the sauces accompanying it were just fine. The market beets had some of my favorite flavors, they were refreshing and felt like a variety with each bite with the avocado puree and elements of tartare. The dosa was fine but would be superior at most Indian restaurants, it was just a plain dosa with chutneys on the side - no masala filling. The seared tofu was made with a very soft silken tofu and served with roasted mushroom and broccolini. The vegetables felt a bit dry but the tofu was nice. The roasted murasaki yam was delicious, it had savory elements of black and white sesame and was brightened by a squeeze of lime juice. It was a Japanese yam so it was dense, starchy, and slightly sweet; the dish could have maybe benefitted from some more variety in textures. Overall, abcV is one of the nicer vegan restaurants in Manhattan, maybe worth splurging occasionally when the menu rotates. I probably won't be back for a while as it's hard to justify the price point of the dishes, but there really were no bad bites.

Came here with high expectations. Don't go to many places at all that are purely plant based. Impressed for what we got in general. It was an assortment of many dishes. Flavors were good but not jumping out at me with full vibrancy. Staff and everyone was nice, as was the service. It was a bit chilly in the city so being inside the restaurant was a nice and cozy break. I don't think I'll go here again just because I'm not too much into plant based dining as this place presents itself and actually is. I feel like I could go elsewhere around the city and get very good dishes that are plant based without going to a strictly plant based restaurant. It was a good change from the types of places that I normally frequent. Company I was with was excellent which made the food that much more comforting.

    California Dates
    Aarushi K.

Extremely slow service and way too overpriced! Similar priced restaurants offer much better quality and quantity of food with better service. Whole roasted cauliflower and California dates were good but came in very little quantity given the price, and campanelle was passable, again very small portion size. Ambience could have been better too - this place is extremely noisy.

Made a last minute weekday dinner reservation as we have been curious about a vegetarian restaurant and was seated right away upon entering. Service was nice (I made a mistake in my order and the lady was understanding). Though it took quite a while for things to come out. Given this place is tapas style, we would eat a lil and then would have to wait some time before the next dish came out which impacted the flow a bit. Food itself was alright - Perhaps my expectations were not right but thankfully our waitress did let us know this is tapas style and recommended 5-6 plates for two. Everything did taste fresh and healthy though just found everything to be a tad underwhelming given the price point. Vibe was generally cute. It does get loud at peak hours so something to note. It may be that vegetarian dishes are not for me but do think it's worth a try for those who enjoy or are interested in vegetation cuisines.

Beautiful vegetarian restaurant by Chef Jean-Georges. The dishes were unique and yummy, but we didn't quite think they were good enough for the fine dining price and portions. Still, a great place to splurge for special occasions especially if you have strictly vegetarian friends!! They recommend family style and ordering 2-3 dishes per person, with each dish being around $30. **old review from summer 2023**

Can the dinner menu items be prepared onion and garlic free?

    Yes

Do they have a menu that shows what is vegan or can be made vegan? The online menu I see on the website just says "vegan options available".

The menu is all vegetarian, not all vegan. I'd say a good 80% of the menu is vegan already and many items can be made vegan.

Does the restaurant take brunch reservations?

    Yes they do!

Is there a place for a stroller?

Yes. The hostess takes your stroller to the back. (Like a coat check). Once I had a folding stroller. Another time I had a large (bugaboo) and they took them and returned once we left.

Is your menu heart healthy or low sodium?

Very healthy menu. Ask waitstaff for lower sodium options. Also on the table they have a Minerals (sea salt). Healthier than processed salt.

    Does this place offer takeout?

Yes! Head to the back, or ask the staff in the front, who are seating diners where to order takeout. A nice option, since it's hard to get reservations here.

Any dress code we should be aware of (for lunch service)? Specifically can I get away with wearing shorts?…

No dress code. Shorts are just fine.

This sandwich is usually not something that is available vegetarian so i was curious to see the flavors and textures. The steak is chewy and meaty so if you are not a fan of faux meat then i would proceed with caution. I enjoy the cheeses here as they are unique and different from each other. The sandwich overall was okay though not my favorite sandwich ever. - smoked Mac and cheese (7/10): macaroni with smoked goat cheese, cheddar, mozzarella baked in a cast iron skillet and topped with vegan pancetta and breadcrumbs. This was a cozy appetizer especially on a cold day. The flavors of the cheese are rich and smoky with a hint of saltiness from the pancetta and breadcrumbs. I would have liked it to be a larger portion and offered as an entree. WOULD I GO BACK? Maybe. I liked the ambiance and the option to try dishes that are usually meat heavy but the cuisine is not my personal favorite.

Funny enough, we met our only other vegan friend there. So, from the vegan perspective, this is a popular and tasty place. We started with drinks, being lunchtime, we opted for non alcoholic drinks, the matcha colada and the salty maple macchiato. The matcha colada had a nice color but tasted mostly like coconut and pineapple which was still yummy. Friends ordered 3 different kinds of sushi and dan dan noodles with tofu. I was confused with the sushi as I thought vegans didn't eat fish...so yes I asked and was told that they probably made the "fish" with tapioca. I did try a bite of each roll (I was still full from the fest) and I was surprised that it tasted pretty good. They did a nice job with the roll and presentation. The matcha cheesecake was nice and creamy. I would not have known it was vegan. I don't normally like food that pretends to be something else because it usually doesn't live up to the real thing. The idea is that it is not pretending to be something but rather substituting with vegan options, I do think from a health perspective, I am more open to trying more vegan foods. Ambiance felt upscale and wait staff were helpful and congenial. I hear dinner time gets packed here. I may have to try again when I have not eaten already.

I loved the fact that their chicken is gf. It's a simple salad with just the romaine lettuce, red onion, and sauce (comes with tomato too but I omitted them), but it's a hearty portion and I figured the grape leaves (which are supposed to come with it) would make it worth the near $20 price point. Well, they didn't give me any dolmas at all, and I totally forgot about them until later. I checked before writing this and their online menu definitely still says the salad comes with grape leaves, so they can't (shouldn't) say that it has changed. I LOVE dolmas, so their omission has left me a tad vexed. Aside from grape-gate, the salad itself was tasty. The jerk chicken didn't taste like real island jerk, but it had some spice and it was very good. I did feel that the salad was missing something. I went back and asked if I could buy some avocado, but they didn't have any. I guess it just needed those M.I.A. dolmas. 6/10 That Pineapple Ginger juice was the truth!! No canned or packaged pineapple or ginger, judging by the taste. 10/10 My habibi ordered the Impossible Chopped Cheese. Sadly, I didn't get a shake this time (as much as I wanted to - I have instant regret), but I did notice that they're now using the big boba straws - perfect for their delicious thick shakes!! Big UPS to them for listening to their customers! (In my previous review, I expressed the inadequacy of the eco-friendly paper straws.) FYI - no bathrooms, even for their customers. That sucks. I'll be back again for another meal. Striving for that top notch experience, which I believe they can and will deliver. Third time's the charm, right?
