I stopped here on a busy graduation night last week, just before closing. With so many people packed into the area, I was shocked at how empty this place was. Their drinks are at a fair price for the amount you get, so the fact that there were very few people there should have been a clue. My drink was pretty terrible. I got a simple milk tea and it tasted very watery and mostly like synthetic sweeteners. Does the "Rare Tea" mean it's rare if you get any actual tea in your drink? Stopped by RareTea on my lunch break and grabbed a Mango Dragon Fruit with no lychee. Man, this hit the spot on a hot day like today. The mango and dragon fruit were a really good combo. super refreshing and not too heavy. I'm usually not the biggest boba person, but this drink was actually really good and I'll definitely be getting it again. Katrina helped me out and was really nice. service was quick my drink came out fast. The shop itself was really nice and cute too. They have a seating area where you can sit down and enjoy your drink or one of their snacks. On my next visit, I'm definitely trying the egg puffs. They looked really good, and you can add toppings like chocolate or strawberries. I also noticed they have a lunch special from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with select drinks at a discounted price, which is always a plus when you're grabbing something on your break. It's been years since I've been to this RareTea, located in DoCo, but was in the area and stopped by late on a weekend night. It's not a big space. There's a handful of places to sit (three tables and some counter seating). Service was excellent, both helpful and friendly. I'll note the Rose Matcha didn't have much of a rose taste. Stumbled upon this place while walking around Golden 1 Center. I was hooked by all the appealing pictures of their drinks on the walls, so I decided to order their Mango Coconut + noodle. I have not been to RareTea in a while, and it was my first time at the DOCO location. The location is great, as it's right near the arena with plenty of other food, drink, and shopping options as well. I will say however I was a bit disappointed in my drink. I ordered the Kiwi Fruit Tea w/ Aiyu jelly and felt that it was too tea-forward for my liking even when I mixed it. The sips with the kiwi and jelly together made it better, however, it was difficult to get everything together, so I got the bitter tea taste many sips. read more

Delicious drink options! We stopped by after a massage, it's in the Chinatown Mall by the Golden 1 Center and it was Soo lively, lots of restaurants and stores around. Chill vibe! They have some good milk tea, fruit teas, smoothies and Yakut drink options along with all of the usual toppings. I'm not a boba topping type of person, it's too chewy for me, but my sisinlaw ordered her drink with boba and she said it was the perfect texture - not too hard or soft! Anyhow, I ordered a tarp milk tea with grass jelly and it was delicious! At age 10, my son is at a stage where he is trying to figure out his desired style (appearance), hobbies, and foods. A few months ago, he and I were at an event where they were distributing free samples of bubble tea. Although I found it to be overbearingly sweet, he absolutely loved it (no surprise)! Therefore, after returning an item to the nearby Macy's, I figured that I would treat him to some bubble at RareTea. When we walked in we were immediately greeted by all three employees working behind the counter. Since this was my son's first time ordering bubble and there was a plethora of options on the menu, my son asked one of the employees for a recommendation. The employee pleasantly suggested the Okinawa Milk Tea, which was one of the employee's personal favorites and an overall popular drink choice. After placing the order, the employee immediately began making the drink and my son had his order in hand less than a minute later. My son found the drink + boba balls to be delicious; so delicious that he consumed it over a two day span to ensure that he had it to look forward to the next day. It's funny how a simple item like bubble, brought so much joy to my son (much cheaper than the newest video game or shoes). This place is located in the Golden 1 Center, and to be fair they are not attentive at all. They do not give off a friendly service. I had two teas here and they were both very good: -Caramelized Brown Sugar Boba Tea - a sweet, rich and creamy milk tea that was perfect as an after-meal treat. I loved the whole milk that made the drink very satisfying. -Roasted Oolong Tea - this was nice since it was a straightforward milk tea. I opted for very low sugar and I enjoyed it since the whole milk made it filling, yet the tea made it refreshing. Most of their teas use a non-dairy creamer, but the teas I had were all made with whole milk, which I really enjoyed. I like the fact that one can customize the level of sweetness and ice for most menu items. I received friendly and warm service at this spot and it made the experience better. In our quest to try every boba spot, Rate Tea has definitely been on our list. It wasn't until today when we finally got to try it and it was definitely worth it. We came in at around 8pm (Macy Parking ftw) and ordered two drinks. I got a jasmine tea with snow cream and boba, while my bf got a high mountain oolong with boba. As we waited for our drinks the atmosphere was warm and friendly, I'm glad there is a family friendly/ non alcoholic spot in the DOCO area this late. It was a little unsettling with the lack of music but luckily the outside noise was enough. We had to wait a tiny bit for the oolong to finish brewing but when we got our drinks they were amazing. My snow cream was very cheesy and not as salty as I expected, but it paired well with the strong, floral jasmine tea. I got it regular sweetness but it wasn't super sweet. My bf's oolong milk tea was also not super sweet and the tea tasted very very strong and fresh. It's clear here the teas used here are very high quality and taste great. We both got boba and it was the perfect texture, soft and chewy. The regular boba is less sweet than other spots but still great. Overall if you're in the area give the place a try! read more

As a frequent visitor at RareTea in Berkeley, I was so excited to see that there was a RareTea in Sac! The drinks were just as good as I remember. My go to drink here is the kiwi fruit tea with aiyu jelly. I would recommend adjusting sweetness to 80% tho! The workers were very nice and friendly. The service was quick and my drink was out within 5 minutes of ordering. It was a bit hard to find this place, but I ended up parking at the DOCO lot and having my parking validated here! I've been to this RareTea about a dozen times or so now, usually with my daughter, but sometimes alone. I'd say it's been hit or miss, but, honestly, there have only been a couple of hits. The first few times I came here with my daughter, I thought it was fantastic, but none of my recent experiences have been good. This afternoon, for example, I stopped by to order a Golden Pineapple. Due to Prom (or something like that), the place was absolutely packed with sequin-coated teens. Anyway, I've ordered a Golden Pineapple before, but, couldn't remember if it came with a cream top. So, I asked the cashier, and she said, no, it's extra. I said okay, because, if it's extra, it's extra, right? The thing is, it's not supposed to be extra. If you search "golden pineapple" on their Instagram or Yelp photos, they all have a cream top. Also, it was listed on the menu under "snow cream tea." I was charged $7.50, which was higher than the menu price for snow cream tea, which was $6 on one menu, and $6.50 on another. Confusing. Someone call Weights and Measures, and ask them if they're thirsty. Additionally, this chick was wearing pedicure sandals instead of shoes. Not only is this unsafe for her and unsanitary for everyone else, but it's also a health code violation. Gross. But, it was really hot outside, and I was really thirsty, and I had been craving a golden pineapple for over a mile of walking, so, whatever. I paid the $7.50, and waited for my drink. The snow cream was rancid. I had already drank a lot of the overly sweet pineapple portion before getting to the cream, and realizing it tasted sour, and gross. I couldn't drink it. Since I had already walked all the way back to the train station before noticing, I ended up just throwing the rest away. I've had some questionable experiences here before in the past, but this was really bad. After today's experience, I would have to be really desperate to come back to this location again. read more

Sacramento is really really hot, so this really helped me cool down and enjoy the strip mall I was walking through. LOCATION: Somewhat hard to find, it is located on the second story of the mall so you will have to take an escalator up. Overall, it is in a pretty interesting shopping complex with a bad food to store ratio. This means there is more food than there is browsing / shopping. TASTE: The Oreo Milkshake was really good! It tasted like a less sweet, milk tea blended milkshake that had really subtle hints of tea. I also like my drinks icy so it was the perfect blend for me. Customer Service: Really fast, really smooth. The interior is somewhat small but it took about 5 - 10 minutes to receive this drink. Overall, really good try. RareTea Sacramento is located in DOCO This was my first time visiting RareTea because I rarely come to downtown (pun intended). An event brought us here to DOCO and extended a generous complimentary drink of our choice in which I chose the Oreo Smoothie w/ brown sugar boba. I mentioned that I wanted just the regular sweetness but as it turned out it was still a bit too sweet for me... not sure if it was the brown sugar boba that elevated the sweetness but I'll need to adjust the sucrose level next time. I purchased three more drinks to go: Mango Passion Fruit Green Tea, Caramelized Brown Sugar Boba Fresh Milk, and Rose Spring Tea to bring home. All drinks got a thumbs up from my adult kids. The staff are friendly and helpful... I got all three of my drinks in no time. They are fast! Parking in downtown can be a challenge and rarely are there "free" parking anymore. Park at the DOCO parking garage for easy access to the shops and restaurants. They are located on the second level by the Golden 1 Center and next to Macy's. It's a pretty small spot upstairs at DOCO, but they're pretty quick so even if it's busy you won't have to wait too long. You can also order online, which makes things even easier. My second time visiting here was as great as my first (which was just last week)! I received the email regarding their BOGO Free today since they're celebrating their 3 year anniversary and decided to stop by since I had business nearby today. I initially tried the High Mountain Teapresso and today I went with a simple Coffee Milk Tea (regular sugar) for myself and a Signature Matcha Latte (30% sugar) for my boyfriend. Service was a little quick so I only uttered out that much and completely forgot about the Brown Sugar Boba part of the order because I didn't realize there was a Signature Matcha Latte without it (crying on the inside) so I guess we must come by again for that one! Both drinks were delicious although the Signature Matcha Latte tasted a bit grainy even when shaken to mix it. The Coffee Milk Tea tastes very good, but definitely substitute the dairy if you're deathly lactose intolerant! (It was a tough fight between the Coffee Milk Tea and I but dairy tastes soo good) Proper social distancing and requirement of wearing a mask were enforced, orders were promptly taken once we entered even though they were extremely busy, and my drinks came out perfectly without too much waiting. I also ordered the mango passionfruit green tea with lite ice and 50% sweetness, with no toppings. It was also tasty, but I think 75% sweet would've been better.
