There were sooo many different kinds of tea on the shelf, and you are able to smell them in their dried form. The staff was welcoming and friendly as well. Always a joy coming in here for my tea. I had run out of a custom mix they made for me, and I picked up some of the fun holiday samples they have on display. For my custom mix: I had brought in a bag of rooibos blended into a wintery hug; a blend I had purchased from a shop in Chicago. After smelling the blend and reviewing the label, they mixed up a batch that they thought would be a good substitution. They were right and nailed it! I came in with my friend around 11:40 am looking for loose leaf tea because I wanted to avoid plastic tea bags. When we entered there was a woman stocking a shelf who did not greet us. I had to say good morning to her first. She continued stocking and then walked away. While my friend and I were looking for loose leaf green tea another employee came out and also did not greet us. After about three minutes no one offered help or assistance with the teas so we left and decided not to give this establishment our money. First established 25 years ago, Tea Cozy is now located in the Arthouse on R Street and offers unique tea-centric artisan gifts and treats along with over 125 different loose-leaf tea blends sold either by the ounce, or by the cup to-go. As an avid tea drinker, I knew I had to check out what Tea Cozy had to offer, and I was not surprised in the least when I walked out with a number of purchases. I selected a cat-themed Japanese teacup and spoon as a gift for a friend, along with 2 ounces each of their Ice Wine and Tropical Paradise tea blends. At first glance 2 ounces may not sound like a lot, but the staff members assured me that 2 ounces is plenty for at least 20 cups of tea. Since I'm a huge fan of fruit teas, the Tropical Paradise, which is a green tea with guava and mango flavors at the forefront, was a no-brainer for me; however, I was looking to walk home with another one, but wasn't too sure what to choose. The staff members were super helpful and advised me to give their Ice Wine blend a try as it's one that they consider a hidden gem that often gets overlooked, trusting in their tea expertise I went along with the recommendation. The Ice Wine blend is a mix of black and white tea with notes of pears, grapes, and berries. Although I didn't purchase these blends, I did want to mention if you're a fan of Avatar the Last Airbender, Tea Cozy has a whole selection of teas inspired by the animated series! I'll probably check out this collection in the future when I come back for more teas. Years ago when we were having dinner around the corner, I stopped in here and bought the most delicious jasmine tea. I was able to stop in again recently and they had an amazing selection of Japanese green teas and were really informative and helpful. Charming and cute shop in a pocket of the historic district on R st! Staff are very friendly. I asked about popular teas, which naturally included jasmine green. I also learned about where some of the tea was from. Unfortunately I could not sample teas at this time of COVID, but I was glad the shop was open. I decided to purchase some to sample and ordered 2oz of roobios with added chai by request. The tea was sourced from Africa. My tea was freshly blended and packed in a brown paper bag with resealable plastic zip and foil lining. Staff mixing the tea wrote the chai blend ingredients on the back. Brewing at home a few months later, the tea still has an apparent and overall fresh taste. My preference for not to spicy pretty much hit the mark. If I came back to try more tea though, ordering just tea leaves would be more worthwhile. Located in the art house on R street is tea cozy. It's to your left as you enter the art house building. I first tried this place during a Yelp event and I loved everything I got. My inventory had run low and the hubs and I had lunch near the area so I decided it would be the perfect time to restock. They were offering a hot cup of tea for $3 off of their New Years Favorites menu which is hanging on the wall to the left of the register. They also have an easel with menus which break down the tea options by type. They offer a wide range of sizing options and the staff is always so friendly and happy to answer any questions and assist you in finding your perfect cup. I got a hot cup of the Cupids Cup which was sweeter than i was expecting but in a good way and I really enjoyed it! I also went home with 2oz of Guava Oolong, a 2oz of one the green tea options and a 4 oz of the black pepper chai. For quite a small area they have so many teas to choose from and many little tea accessories through the floor as well. A lovely and quaint little spot that's definitely worth stopping in. read more

Great ice herbal teas to pick up on a warm day. Today we got an elderberry and a hibiscus cranberry. Wow full of bold flavors. Elderberry had a wine type of taste it was good. Tea Cozy has moved to a front and center location (in the same building) that allows for an easier, more spacious shopping experience, so they've hit the fifth star in my book. Of course, there's all things tea packed into this small but mighty shop. Recently I stopped in for some loose tea blends with seasonal ingredients and couldn't resist including an awesome stainless steel hydroflask with inside straining basket with my purchase. If you like tea on the go, it's a must. The store also carries fancy teapots and imports from England and the rest of the UK. Most of them are loose with some of the flavors I have not yet seen anywhere else but they do also sell a small selection of Tea Bags too. As well as the Tea's you can also find some British imports such as *Digestive Biscuits, Shortbread, Chocolate Bars, Sandwich sauces including Marmite and even Christmas Pudding! Some of the prices are pretty high, expected considering they are imported but be sure to check the dates! The place is small but there's a large variety of tea. I sniffed some tea leaves on the rack, and then asked if they had a listing of the tea leaves they sell. The woman was friendly and took tea canisters from behind the counter for me to smell the ones I inquired about. In the end, I decided to purchase the wild strawberry and chocolate black tea, which came pre-packaged in 1.5 ounce bags. Out of the two, wild strawberry is a must. I love this place so much. I have a strong preference for black tea and my first order with them included a variety of black teas. From that order they recommended another black tea (Wakoucha Japanese black tea) that has become one of my favorites. I also enjoy some of their custom herbal blends, and the uniqueness of the color-changing blue butterfly tea inspired me to get some seeds and grow this amazing vine myself. I really enjoyed the presentation and tea ceremony of Golden Feather Tea companies pre- and post- Camp fire offerings. It was an amazing experience to try a locally grown tea.
