Ace Hardware is a fantastic store and an even better hard experience than anywhere else. It's very reminiscent of hardware stores in the 70s and 80s personalized service walk you right to what you need discuss your project with you all good the crew at the Ramona store is above standard. They go above and beyond the call of duty. The place is always well stocked organized, and the staff as a friendly can do attitude they're able to help you without rushing you or making you feel incompetent. Who would make the 1 hour round trip to go to a big box store down the hill to save a few cents? 2-3 gallons of gas, plus an hour (min) of your time, and you are sending money to Atlanta GA instead of keeping $ in the community. I went to the store to buy a power washer machine. I asked the sales manager there for the most powerful one they had. He told me the most powerful one was a 2000 psi. I'll ask him if he could get me a gas Power one. He said that in California it is not legal to sell Gas power tools. So, I trusted the person bought the machine and proceeded to use it to clean Hangar floor. Within 10 minutes of trying to clean the floor with this machine I realize that it was not powerful enough. So, I went back to the store and told him I needed to return the machine. First thing the manager told me is that the machine could not be returned because it was used. I have lived in this country for 28 years and that's the first time somebody tells me some something as ridiculous so I push back and I told him I wanted to either talk to a manager or he better give me my money back. After some back-and-forth, he returned the funds in full, and I told him a few things about my personal life. Leaving the store I went to costco where I not only found a more powerful machine, but that machine was also gas power. I don't recommend the store. I don't like people that lie and people that refuse to do they're supposed to do which is follow customer policy. read more

We shop here on occasions, it's clean, employees are helpful & knowledgeable. Recently on cyber Monday I tried ordering an item online through Ace hardwares main website. It said not available in this area, the 800 number was not helpful. I called this location, and the person who answered the phone said the manager was busy and would call me back ( these days it's rare a business calls back & requires a follow up call back to them) That wasn't the case here. Doug the manager called me back not once but four times trying to figure out how I could order it. He went above and beyond what I've experienced in customer service alone lately, and was more helpful than the main Ace hardware website. I will rely on this location more often. The middle aged female staff in this establishment has extremely poor customer service skills. Unfortunately, due to where we live, there is not much for variety in stores if you don't want to drive to Lowe's or Home Depot. For the past three years, one specific employee is always rude and condescending. She always appears to be bitter, and struggles to be genuinely kind and helpful. I suspect it due to her middle age, and poor training in customer service. I cringe and do my best to avoid her when I see her working. Today, she was at the register, and had a overwhelming bad attitude. There was a confusion as to a price on an item, and we questioned the final total. A price sign was placed over in a confusing spot. Instead of apologizing that there was a confusion (as proper customer service dictates), her and the other middle aged staff on the other register were exceedingly rude, being somewhat argumentative and condescending. We walked out without purchasing anything. We opted to go to a comp store, and found the same items for half the price. (Note to self that an extra 15 minute drive to be treated better is worth it.) Management should retrain their employees on customer service. Such a shame for such a nice store. (Yes. I called them out on their age being someone who is in her late 40s. I constantly have to 'check' myself, and so should they.) read more

All the employees here are miserable and rude. I hate going to this store because of how poorly they treat you. Tried to return something and they act you are literally robbing them. Attitudes are horrible. With online shopping widely available and a heck of a lot cheaper prices everywhere else, you'd at least think they'd have customer service to make up for their outrageously overpriced products. Nope. They make the DMV look like the best experience ever! I was interested in a Dewalt Table saw and BEFORE purchasing I asked an employee if 399 was the right price and she said " yes it is" I replied with great I'll take it. Go to ring it up and she says total is 542. What?!! Calls for help and the guy comes and says the best he can do is 479+tax. They took the tag off and tried to say it wasn't there even with the one employee saying it was right there on top of it. The dishonesty was the disappointing part. LOVE the Ransom Brothers True Value store! Yes, they are pricier than the big box stores but on most items, though at least for the most part, not ridiculously so. This store is clean, bright, well organized, and just has an overall nice vibe, thanks to the friendly, helpful, SMART folks that work here. I am almost always welcomed when I come in the store. There are usually two cashiers even during slow times, so there's rarely a long wait. I must reiterate that the employees have terrific customer service skills. If I look perplexed at all, someone comes up to help me. If that person can't, they quickly call on someone else. Even if I need to leave without buying anything, I still get a friendly good-bye. Shame on Ransom brothers for not protecting their employees nor their customers who are properly masked according to the state mandate. Ransom brothers allows non-masked customers to come and shop with their entire family unmasked! I walked in to shop, so many people without masks and did 180° out the door! Owner Gilcrest has the right to refuse service to anyone not in compliance and yet she shows by her actions, that employees nor customers matter to her. Her herd mentality is not desirable for common sense. So the mandate says all employees will wear masks and she complies with that. I guess the threat of having her closed down will keep her in compliance. But why not add some common sense to this and the same mandate says everyone should be masked. Why must there be a threat behind the mandate and not some logical thinking? read more

They usually have what I need but they are not very welcoming or friendly. I have been there numerous times and always have the same experience. Need to improve customer service. Good place to find some tools that ranges from affordability to GOOD LORD do i really a need $50+ hammer. Lots of variety from simple everyday tools to gardening tools to automotive tools. I should have posted this a long time ago. This is one of the very best companies in Ramona, with an EXCELLENT team. I remember when this shop opened up this location, right during a hard economic time when everyone was closing shops, and they were hiring - it was the only ray of sunshine during a time when this town was very worried about losing small businesses. And since that time they have consistently delivered more value to the customers in town, myself included. I use them as my hardware/household everything source. I use them for my gardening and gotta-feed-the-birds stop. I use them for lighting/plumbing/storage/painting - you name it. And they are my mailbox service in their back Postal Annex area - also staffed by very knowledgeable and friendly faces from Lindsay and the whole crew back there. Their management up front also is very attentive to their customers. This store is ALWAYS spotless. They take great care of every shelf and every floor, and it is obvious the pride they take in providing a very nice shopping experience, and the team in the main store is full of advice and recommendations. Unlike Home Depot where you have to pray to God to hope someone might help you out, the Ransom Brothers team actually WANTS to help you - they seek you out to make sure you have no questions or needs. This is a place where they welcome you at the door, and you always feel that you are valued. I wish I was a handier person because I would happily buy even more from them than I do, so I drag my boyfriend in with me in case he needs more tools and supplies. This is a store I hope is around a very long time, and they are one of the examples of the BEST that Ramona has to offer. read more

The cashiers do nothing but ring people up. I asked for assistance in paint and they didn't even call anyone- just said they couldn't help me. I had to hunt down a person on the floor to help me with a hardware item I was looking for, and the surly man showed me the wrong thing. So I described it rather than calling it by name, and Surly very pedantically told me that's not what I asked for. He takes me to my item, and low and behold, it's called exactly what I called it in the first place. Last winter I used their packing department in back to send a box to Washington--- half an hour after I left they called me to inform me that they undercharged me, and said if I didn't return, the package (containing perishables) would sit in the store for as long as it took. I went to ransoms today for a part to repair a toilet, I met an older dude in the aisle that worked there called Dave, this guy was amazing and totally helpful. If you ever need anything at Ransoms ask for this guy he is just the coolest and super attentive. I will be contacting management to sing his praises as well. read more

Having moved to Ramona in October and addressing years of deferred maintenance in a house that was little more than ten years old, but of which we were the fifth occupants, I almost felt like I should take a cot to Ransom Brothers, I was there that frequently. They have a large, knowledgable and helpful staff. As soon as you walk in the store, the cashiers go out of their way to say hello. The sales staff are very knowledgable and eager to address your needs -- even if those needs are a handful of 15 cent parts. They led me to check a water pressure regulator that had failed, after a replacement shower valve lasted less than two weeks (and credited me the cost of that valve against the pricier one. They have a wide range of tools and parts. They don't match Home Depot on price, but the quality of the assistance provided more than makes up for the small savings you might capture with an hour's roundtrip drive to that box of a store. read more
