The service was amazing and they were super accommodating for our large group (13 people). They had a variety of food to accommodate different dietary restrictions (gluten free, vegan, vegetarian). We had a giant spread of food, I was a huge fan of their samosas (packed with filling) and their chicken biryani. The decor was nice and it was cozy, I think it's worth stopping by for a bite to eat if you're in the area, everyone really enjoyed it It was a team dinner so couldn't take as many photos

Used to visit here often about 10 years ago. Went back with a buddy for lunch after a long hike. They are pretty efficient greeting us. This place hasn't changed much. Still nicely kept with a cozy and clean vibe. We shared their tea salad. I got their own noodle dish. Tea salad is solid. Their noodle dish is well seasoned and texture was really nice. It is still the good place that I remembered. Would like to revisit when I crave for some nice Burmese food

A branch of the other Burmese restaurant chain that has VERY large portions and good flavors! Recommend the tea lead salad and the Burmese pad thai, but we also tried the minted jalapeno chicken that was a good blend of flavors I never thought matched! We had mild spice for all of them and it wasn't too spicy at all, so if you can handle spice, try medium! The staff are very friendly and attentive, serving cucumber water and the interior is well-decorated and gives an air of sophistication while still being a more casual restaurant.

I ordered online for take out. Paid over 20 bucks for a full salad but received a side salad portion instead. This is my second time ordering and never again. Portions are always small for the price. No wonder I never see the restaurant full during lunch.

    Neat, clean and cozy ambiance.

Went for a Monday night dinner while visiting the city. Was not disappointed at all. The place was not busy for dinner (great for us !). The tables were all well arranged and the entire restaurant was very well kept with clean, cozy and somewhat colonial dining setup. The food was very flavorful and well balanced (not too oily or unnecessarily smothered with chili just to make it spicy). We ordered the tea salad (very unique, our first time experience), beef curry (Thai basil) - very tasty!, garlic noodles, samosa and semolina cake with mango ice cream (delicious!). Server can be a little more prescriptive though

Took out the Tea Leaf Salad and Monk Hingar (catfish chowder noodle soup). Soup was tasty but noodle provided was such a tiny portion that I cooked ramen to add to it. Tea leaf salad was good with a little tiny spicy kick to it.

Rangoon Ruby in San Carlos is one of those spots where you walk in and immediately know you're in for something different with a warm, stylish decor with a hint of elegance, and the aroma of garlic, spices, and coconut milk floating through the air. It's upscale but not uptight, perfect for date nights, group dinners, or anyone craving authentic Burmese food done right. Must-Try Dishes: * Tea Leaf Salad (Lahpet Thoke) This is the signature dish and it does not disappoint. Fermented tea leaves, crunchy nuts, seeds, tomatoes, garlic, and lime all come together in a tangy, umami-packed bite. Complex and addicting. * Samusa Soup A flavorful lentil-based soup with pieces of samusa (Burmese samosas) swimming inside. Spiced but not too spicy , cozy and comforting. * Pumpkin Pork Stew Tender pork belly in a mild pumpkin curry , rich, slightly sweet, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Definitely a sleeper hit on the menu. * Burmese Style Garlic Noodles Stir-fried noodles with crispy garlic, scallions, and your choice of protein. Simple, but seriously flavorful. A good "gateway dish" if you're new to Burmese cuisine. * Coconut Rice Order it as a side with anything , fluffy, fragrant, and the perfect match for the saucier curries. * Shan Noodles One of the most beloved street foods of Myanmar rice noodles with chicken or pork in a slightly tangy tomato-based sauce. Light but deeply satisfying. Drinks & Atmosphere: They've got a full bar with solid craft cocktails and Burmese beer. The vibe is classy but welcoming ,think white tablecloths with a laid-back neighborhood feel. Service is attentive, helpful, and happy to guide you if you're new to Burmese food. Price Point: It's on the higher side for casual dining , you're looking at ~$18-$28 for entrées. But the portions are fair, the quality is high, and the experience feels special. It's not cheap takeout, but it's worth it. Final Verdict: Rangoon Ruby delivers , bold flavors, beautiful presentation, and dishes that strike a perfect balance between comforting and adventurous. If you've never tried Burmese cuisine, this place makes a fantastic first impression. Just be ready to spend a little , and leave very full.

1 year later and 3rd time -- still meh. Tea salad was okay and pad Thai under spiced and overpriced. Place was fairly empty and service was poor. No need to revisit for the 4th time.

So what made the experience for me is the waiter. He was super friendly and very great at giving us advice on which dish is great to choose. Although i know what is good i usually ask to see if the staff is knowledgable of the menu. We ordered the food and of course it was delicious! We sat outside on a nice warm day and it was a great to sit there and chat. Great place for a date and to catch up with friends.

Not good at all. Ordered Hot and didn't taste one spice. Paid for delivery too and left a tip. Don't do it. Sure this we be hidden.

Burma Spice hosted our daughter's high school graduation luncheon on May 23rd and we couldn't have been happier! We had about 30 guests in a separate area in the back of the restaurant. Kham and Raymond were so nice and helpful in planning the menu for our gathering. Everything was served family style. We ordered - Tea Leaf Salad- the perfect ratio of fermented tea leaves and ingrediants. - Samosas- light, crispy, and so flavorful - Nan Gyi Thoke- the noodles were perfectly cooked, not mushy, and the curry was creamy and delightful. - Basil Lemongrass Chicken- fresh basil, and lemongrass really made this dish a popular topic. - Pumpkin Veggie- Nice ratio of pumpkin and other veggies, very hearty. - Kebat Lamb- savory, packed full of rich spices, the onions add so much texture and flavor as well. - Jasmine Rice Plus plenty of yummy tropical cocktails for the adults. They set up a little table for the cake, and some graduation items that we brought. They really went out of their way to make our celebration comfortable. Everything was in generous portions, fresh and expertly prepared. My guests raved about the food and service. Some of my guests had never tried Burmese food before and now in their meal rotation. We didn't realize that we had stretched into their rest period between lunch and dinner because they were so gracious about not rushing us. I highly recommend Burma Spice in Redwood City for any meal or occasion. The restaurant is such a gem in our neighborhood and the service is friendly.

I'd rank their flavors ever slightly better than other Burmese restaurants I've been to in the Bay Area. But their salad portion size felt like 1/8 of other places'. For hot dishes, about 1/2-1/3. Just cannot justify the price. What I liked: both aforementioned salads, samosa soup, curries. What I didn't like: house special noodles. Extremely bland. The service was lacking too. Also it felt like they wanted us to leave as soon as we finished. I was considering ordering a few more dishes (because, duh, I was still hungry due to the surprisingly small portions). Parking for this location was very difficult, especially when you visit on a busy day. The atmosphere is moody and dark which is perfect for a date night. I ordered - Burma Chicken Mint - Nan Pia Dok - Tea leaf salad We started off with the tea salad since it was highly suggested by our waiter. I love the amount of toppings they add onto the salad and having it served table side is even better. For the salad, it was more savory and the flavor was light which helped bring out the salad more; which is a positive. The Nan Pia Dok noodles were also served table side and honestly, this was good but not quite extraordinary. Eventually halfway, the noodles lost its flavor and just felt like stir fried noodles with toppings. This was also more of a savory dish. The Burma Chicken Mint dish was also somewhat delicious but fell short towards the end as it tasted exactly what it looks like. It's not bad but does get boring fast. If you love spicy food then I highly recommend getting this; otherwise it's not really for me. The service is honestly top notch, can't really complain when the person serving you the salad is extremely friendly which breaks the awkward silence every now and then. Overall, I would definitely come back to try some of the other dishes as I'm venturing into newer territory, and honestly that's okay. The service and food was decent enough for me to give it another chance. The salad was honestly the best thing to get here.

The filling on the lettuce wraps was a little on the wet side (meaning it stuck together versus being crumbly/separated), that's neither good or bad, and the taste was good. The pork belly was crisp and I think purposely cooked crispy, and the sweet and sour type sauce added some moisture- went together well. For the entrees, we had tea leaf salad - really good with a lot of textures via the seeds to go along with the greens and other vegetables. Both noodles (House Noodles with Shrimp and Curry Noodles with Chicken) were also great, with the House Noodles being almost Pad Thai like in seasoning and the curry one being rich and lots of umami. Generous amounts of chicken, cooked well so it was easy to shred apart. Finally, the honey walnut shrimp was done really well. Plenty of walnuts, not overly sweet or goopy - one of the best versions I've had. Service was great, attentive, polite/friendly, and they filled our water glasses frequently. Decor was pretty typical - but on the nicer/classier end of the level of this type of restaurant. So nothing really to criticize! We'd happily come back here again.
