Nutella Chia Pudding
Andrea S.

Ordered from moonbowls through doordash and wow! So amazing. I got the avocado bulgogi bowl and it was so delicious. The sweet potato really complimented the flavors of the kimchi! Would definitely order from here again. Also got the chia pudding - so tasty. Highly recommend this spot! The spicy mayo sauce was really amazing also.

Found a hair in one of the pineapples in the bowl sadly :(

Found this place via Door Dash and decided to give it a try. I like how they are trying to take Korean cuisine and put a health conscious spin on it. The menu is very modern and attractive to the eyes. I love the website layout and the pictures they provide; it's very helpful for one unfamiliar with Korean cuisine. That being said, we did order off DoorDash (I did check out the website prior to ordering!). It comes with very cute packaging and I can reuse the bag! However...couple things to note about the food. Please refer to the pictures for the following points of critique. My girlfriend did a create own bowl, while I went for the Chicken and Egg bowl. Thinking we would need more for our meal (usually bowls don't fill up my hungry self), I also ordered the KBBQ Cauliflower Wings. There is supposed to be a fried egg for my bowl? I mean, chicken and egg bowl right? Opened up my container and no egg to be found... Then my girlfriend found a hair in her pineapple. On top of this, both our bowls were underseasoned. There didn't seem to be much flavor and we thought it could use at least more pepper or salt. It was a bummer because the KBBQ Cauliflower Wings were seasoned very well and the flavor was delicious! We actually enjoyed this one. However, the former two needs some work. I might be late to the game, perhaps this place has opened up awhile back and I don't go to that location enough to realize it. It's a great healthy option and I like the idea. I'd take note on seasoning of the bowls and some sanitation, and I think this place will continue to take off. Portions were great and it was packaged very well (compostable bowls). Hence my 3 star rating. Considering another visit another time when I need something quick to eat in the San Mateo area!

Absolutely fabulous. I did DoorDash so not sure what the place looks like. It was a homerun. From the packaging and completeness of utensils and no leakage. The food was so flavorful. The bulgogi was so tasty. Tender and fresh. The avocado sliced perfectly. The brown rice was so good and fresh not clumped. The noodles were delicious. The sauce was perfect and I could have eaten it without. I'm full but longing for more. Lots of choices and you can create your own. Please come to Sacramento area.

Sweet Chicken Kimchi

I was so excited to see this place since I'm on a strict diet. Ordered chicken kimchi from doordash and it was pretty good. I think the flavor is perfect for what it is, I was expecting more chicken. And since I've ordered extra broccoli, the portion of the broccoli is a bit less than what I expected. But overall it's very delicious. And I would order again to try their other bowls.

Moonbowls are healthy Korean, gluten-free food bowls. This Moonbowls location is a ghost kitchen inside the San Mateo Food Hall. It's menu offers Bowls, Appetizers, Desserts, and Drinks. The other day, I ordered the $13 Build Your Own Bowl, with a brown rice base and chicken as my protein. My add-ons were corn, pineapple, seaweed, caramelized onion, and green onions. In general, the food was good. The fresh tasting ingredients, made the bowl a pleasure to eat. The only issue I had was the brown rice base was a little hard. So I wasn't sure if I was supposed to stir it up or eat it as is. I have ordered Moonbowls before (from a different location), but I had a kale base in that bowl. I think next time I'll opt for a veggie base. The food bowl weighed about 22-oz, including the bowl. Located inside the San Mateo Food Hall at 66 21st Ave, San Mateo. Street parking.

BBQ Chicken Bowl Sauteed Mushrooms Roasted Broccoli Brown Rice

Very good food, tasted fresh and healthy! I got the BBQ chicken bowl with brown rice, and with mushrooms and broccoli as my sides. Chicken was juicy and tasty. The broccoli had a little char on it, which was also good. The mushrooms were actually awesome - perfect texture and quite delicious. Great place for a healthy, well-portioned meal!

Ordered via Uber eats. I got the kimchi chicken bowls! Great for healthy clean lunch option. First time trying and will be trying the other options next time

Delivered meal in a cute bag

Ordered through Uber Eats and found this unique place with a Korean taste. They are more geared toward healthy eating which is what we were looking for. We opted for the Avocado Bulgogi and the Sweet Chicken Kimchi. The meal came in a very cute purple paper bag. The Avocado Bulgogi had "impossible" beef which was not heavy but yet tasty. The Sweet Chicken Kimchi had a but one get one deal, and was quite good. We would definitely try the other dishes next time.

Sweet chicken BOGO bowl and chia pudding.
Dane L.

I ordered a chia pudding, BOGO moon bowl sweet chicken and some fried chicken. It's not worth the money at all. The chicken was old and dry stale. Corn tastes half spoiled. Chia pudding with strawberry we couldn't find any strawberries. Stay away from this place.

Moonbowls is in San Mateo!! So excited to have it close. 100% gluten free places are so tough to find for people with gluten intolerance or celiac disease and Korean style food is often harder to find gluten free. I would pick moonbowls up in the SF location but now have it minutes from home. So easy to order on the app and the food is all very good. Can't go wrong with any of the items. I like the spicy chicken dish and the fried cauliflower the best. Will be a regular here!

We came by at around 8:30 on a weeknight, and we were sat right away. The small restaurant is designed like your typical loungey club-like Korean drinking spot, with dark walls, simple decor, and vibey music. Bar food and Korean staples are the name of the game here at Chingu, so that's exactly what we got. I got a dolsot bibimbap, which is the hot stone pot mixed rice, and my friend got the Korean Fried Chicken, opting for a combination one with two flavors. I think Korean Fried Chicken has been solved, because the average chicken I have at these places is pretty stellar in general. Great thing to get if you want something tried and true. I also really liked my bibimbap. Pretty standard stuff, with bean sprouts, mushrooms, bulgogi, carrots, etc. Something super familiar that I think most folks would be totally cool with! We're not huge drinkers, but that would be THE thing to do here too, so if you're hankering, this is the spot for you!

I went around 8pm on a weekday and place was packedddd, but the service was impressive. All of our dishes came out all at one, within 5-10 minutes after ordering. What I had: Yuk hwe (beef tartare with pears and egg yolk): If you're hesitant about raw beef, please don't be. It's honestly just like eating sashimi. Wagyu meat was incredibly tender, sweet, and melted in my mouth. It was mixed with some kind of seasoning sauce and egg yolk, so savory and addictive I couldn't stop. Highly recommend you should try it if you can eat raw food Bossam: Great but I found it a bit too fatty (meat-to-fat ratio was like 50:50 ). My favorite way to eat was wrapping it in lettuce with garlic (extraaa), jalapeno, kimchi, and ssamjang. It also went well with rice. Big bite was super satisfying Galbi tang: Something we ordered to balance things out (2 previous dishes was just heavy), and it was a perfect decision. The soup was light, clean, and deeply comforting. Beef short ribs were super tender. I like to eat with a big spoon, ribs, rice, kimchi then dipped in the warm soup, perfect!!! I also appreciate that they serve complimentary warm tea, which was perfect for a cold day like today. Portions are generous, we had plenty of leftovers. Would definitely come back.

The hubs ordered their soon tofu soup and I order the bibimbap. The food was that flavor wise, it was decent. The bad, and reason for low rating, is due to the portions and lack of ingredients. For $25 per dish, you would expect the same amount of protein, veggies, etc as other restaurants. We were shocked seeing how little beef and other ingredients were in our meals. Literally, the skirt of beef in my bibimbap was less than one spoonful. It was made up by increase amount of veggies either. I know inflation is causing everything to be more expensive, but this feels a bit ridiculous. We'll probably not return, at least not for those items. Perfects the noodle dishes and soups still have hearty portions?

Strongly recommended to everyone.

Since the food was catered, unfortunately I was unable to see the robots cooking in action, but fortunately was able to taste the final products. I was able to try the Wagyu galbi (short ribs), dak galbi (marinated chicken), Seoul food bowl (stir-fried pork belly and shrimp), and japchae, served with their corn salad, kimchi, and white rice. The Wagyu galbi was very flavorful with a good amount of vegetables; though I enjoyed the inclusion of lotus root, the veggies seemed like borderline filler to skimp out on meat. The dak galbi was also flavorful though spicy, and again the inclusion of rice cakes seemed like filler. The pork belly and shrimp were delicious, and I liked that the pieces of pork belly I had didn't have an overpowering amount of fat. The japchae was pretty standard and was nice to balance out the meat. I enjoyed the corn salad because it added a creamy component to my meal. The kimchi got lost in the mixture of food in my bowl and the rice was cooked perfectly by the robot. Overall, I enjoyed the food prepared by OLHSO Truck. Unfortunately, since the food was catered and already prepared when I arrived, I cannot comment on the service or wait times provided by the staff. I would consider ordering food from the truck if I am craving Korean fusion type of food and am too lazy to dine in at a local Korean restaurant. I have been to Kajiken twice now, and it has been absolutely delicious each time. It is located in downtown San Mateo, so it does not have its own dedicated parking lot. If you come on the weekend, it can be harder to find parking, and the likelihood of a wait is high. When it gets busy, there is a section outside for you to line up. The servers typically come out to the folks closest to the front of the line and hand them menus so they can decide what they want before being seated. When it is not as busy, you can walk in directly and request a table. The shop itself actually has a lot of seating, but there is always an influx of people, so it fills up quickly. The interior gives off a nice modern Japanese chic vibe. :) They also offer outdoor patio seating, which is great if you are trying to enjoy a nice day outside. I have tried both their Wagyu Roast Beef Aburasoba and their Soboro Aburasoba. The roast beef is tender and adds a nice chew against the silky noodles, while the soboro chicken is juicy and coats your mouth with a savory soy flavor. Additionally, I've had their karaage on both occasions I visited, and it was succulent! I love how the juice from the chicken balances with the generous amount of grated ginger and green onion.
