I was looking to eat some roughage, so I ordered the steak salad from Moonbowls through DoorDash. It was hard to tell if what I ordered, was what I received. The steak tasted very much like Bulgogi beef instead. It was fine since they're the same price. That said, the toppings were fresh and flavorful, and the meal overall was pretty healthy. I do wish there had been more dressing/sauce, because the container they included wasn't quite enough to cover everything. The lemon wedge was a nice touch, though, and added some extra flavor. Overall, not a bad meal, but the sauce portions could use some improvement. read more

Well, I liked the food, but if you are picking up food yourself or thinking you will go try this place out to eat and have never been here before - I am about to save you some confusion. There is nothing on the website that says the location is pick-up only. I did not place my order from the website, as I planned to order it in person. NOTE: There is NO RESTAURANT here. In fact, I drove around the block twice because where gps said it was had NOTHING to tell you what was in the building on the outside of the building!! It was just a completely random bland building. Only because I was super hungry and it's difficult to find vegan places and I didn't feel like hitting the Whole Foods salad bar again for dinner did I still make the effort to park and get out. Oh, and also only because I lucked out and there was one parking spot available that said 20 minute parking. Otherwise, I straight up would've left. So I cautiously step inside this non-descriptive building and I see some people placing an order on a order screen. I asked them if this is Moonbowls? And they say "yeah, it's one of them...There's a lot of food places here." And they walk out. And I'm like really? Where? All I see is a waiting room. How strange is this. So I'm sitting here thinking is this like only for people who are working for DoorDash or something? There's absolutely no signs anywhere to explain to you what is going on! As someone who is from out of the area, it was very confusing to me. I don't know if this is a normal new thing now, with all of the "do it yourself" ordering nowadays, but I had never seen it before. There's nobody around to ask as far as any kind of staff member. So I felt very cautious about placing an order since I didn't really know what was gonna happen or how I would get my order. But I saw that on the screen it had a bunch of different restaurants and I could choose this as one of them to order from. So I decided just to order some crispy cauliflower and just keep it to one item and see what happens. Lol After I placed the order, I saw a guy standing over by a gate to the back area...where apparently all of the cooking for the mysterious restaurants that shall not be named on the front door of the building was apparently happening. So I asked him if he had been here before, and if this is where we just stand? Or does somebody bring the food out to you in the waiting room or what? Like I don't understand what's happening here. But then I did see they had a screen up on the wall behind the gate that showed your name and that the order has been received. So that was at least comforting. He didn't really have any answers either. So, eventually, I get a text on my phone and it tells me that my food will be in a specific locker, and I can pick it up there! At this point, it's feeling a little bit like I am on a spy mission or something in a movie. So that's when I looked and noticed lo and behold there are lockers in the area back by the gate! How funny! I have to ask the gentleman to move out of the way since he's in front of the locker that I apparently have to get my secret food out of. God forbid you talk to a person or they see you, as it could ruin the whole spy mission! I get my food and I'm looking around wondering what do you do if it was the wrong thing? Like there's nobody around? And then I see a little spot over on the wall that has different restaurant names and like a doorbell button for each one. Ha ha. So I guess that's what you would do if you were having a problem with your order? I mean, this is beyond ridiculous that there is literally no explanation given of how things work. Why is it so secretive? They have this whole waiting room when you walk in with the ordering screens and they could easily have put up a sign at least giving instructions to place your order for any of the restaurants and then you will receive a text when it's ready and then you will retrieve it from a locker behind you and if you have a problem there is a doorbell on the wall by the lockers. I mean, how hard is that? Just make life easier for those of us who are new and who decided to venture into a random building with no sign on the outside. That is still the strangest part of all to me. Like, do you actually want people to find the place? Or again, is some kind of secret mission going on there? It was the most bizarre experience I've ever had ordering food. I can definitely say that! However, the crispy cauliflower with the avocado sauce was really good! I might be back, but I don't know. I like to be able to see the kitchen where my food is being cooked and people that work at the place and talk to a person. Tried the avocado bulgogi bowl and it was absolutely delicious - the roasted sweet potatoes paired perfectly with the kimchi and the avocado slices. The bulgogi was tender and fresh, the avocados sliced and placed nicely, and the brown rice was fluffy and not clumped. I went with the gochujang spicy sauce, which is not very spicy and complemented everything in the bowl pretty well. Ordered a crispy rice bar for the dessert, but what arrived was a chewy marshmallow bar with brown butter and sea salt. It wasn't what I expected. Not sure if that was a mix up or just how the menu was listed. Found this place via Door Dash and decided to give it a try. I like how they are trying to take Korean cuisine and put a health conscious spin on it. The menu is very modern and attractive to the eyes. I love the website layout and the pictures they provide; it's very helpful for one unfamiliar with Korean cuisine. That being said, we did order off DoorDash (I did check out the website prior to ordering!). It comes with very cute packaging and I can reuse the bag! However...couple things to note about the food. Please refer to the pictures for the following points of critique. My girlfriend did a create own bowl, while I went for the Chicken and Egg bowl. Thinking we would need more for our meal (usually bowls don't fill up my hungry self), I also ordered the KBBQ Cauliflower Wings. There is supposed to be a fried egg for my bowl? I mean, chicken and egg bowl right? Opened up my container and no egg to be found... Then my girlfriend found a hair in her pineapple. On top of this, both our bowls were underseasoned. There didn't seem to be much flavor and we thought it could use at least more pepper or salt. It was a bummer because the KBBQ Cauliflower Wings were seasoned very well and the flavor was delicious! We actually enjoyed this one. However, the former two needs some work. I might be late to the game, perhaps this place has opened up awhile back and I don't go to that location enough to realize it. It's a great healthy option and I like the idea. I'd take note on seasoning of the bowls and some sanitation, and I think this place will continue to take off. Absolutely fabulous. I did DoorDash so not sure what the place looks like. It was a homerun. From the packaging and completeness of utensils and no leakage. The food was so flavorful. The bulgogi was so tasty. Tender and fresh. The avocado sliced perfectly. The brown rice was so good and fresh not clumped. The noodles were delicious. I was so excited to see this place since I'm on a strict diet. Ordered chicken kimchi from doordash and it was pretty good. I think the flavor is perfect for what it is, I was expecting more chicken. So I wasn't sure if I was supposed to stir it up or eat it as is. I have ordered Moonbowls before (from a different location), but I had a kale base in that bowl. Ordered through Uber Eats and found this unique place with a Korean taste. They are more geared toward healthy eating which is what we were looking for. We opted for the Avocado Bulgogi and the Sweet Chicken Kimchi. The meal came in a very cute purple paper bag. The Avocado Bulgogi had "impossible" beef which was not heavy but yet tasty. After reviewing the menu I was pretty excited to try this place. Unfortunately for me it was not great. Avocado Bulgogi: 2/5. For me it was a bowlful of meh. Not much flavor in spite of the promise of the ingredients (sliced avocado, kimchi, charred peppers, citrus-marinated kale, caramelized onions, green onions, seasoned seaweed, sesame seeds, and our ginger garlic soy sauce). So excited to have it close. 100% gluten free places are so tough to find for people with gluten intolerance or celiac disease and Korean style food is often harder to find gluten free. I would pick moonbowls up in the SF location but now have it minutes from home. So easy to order on the app and the food is all very good. Can't go wrong with any of the items. This is probably more like a 3.5 stars. Got the BOGO sweet chicken bowls. Minor annoyance is that you have to get the same exact bowl (at least on the doordash app, it wouldnt let me change anything without applying to both bowls). Would be nice if i could've gotten a different base at least (or a different bowl that is under the bogo options) for one to try more variety and also in case we didnt like something - which in this case was the sesame and scallion rice. I'll get to that. Individually each piece tasted pretty good. But once i mixed it together it felt a tad underseasoned. And then unfortunately about half of our rice in each bowl felt undercooked and was crunchy. So it was a bit unpleasant and why i put it at 3 stars. I rarely eat out these days because most vegan options at omni restaurants are expensive, boring, and "healthy" (unseasoned veggies over rice), so I was super excited to see a new place with a ton of good vegan food. I ordered a big Friday night feast for myself and my husband. I ordered directly through the Moonbowls website, but unfortunately the DoorDash delivery person dropped off the wrong order. I replied to the confirmation text I had gotten from Moonbowls and worked with the representative to fix it. They offered to cancel the order entirely, but I opted to wait for a remake, and they comp'd one of my appetizers for the inconvenience. The food itself was well-cooked but consistently underseasoned. The Gochujang Cauliflower Wings were perfectly soft-yet-firm, but had barely any sauce, which was more sweet than spicy. The Impossible Potstickers seemed to only contain bland impossible meat. The Spicy Avocado Bulgogi over brown rice was nice in composition, but the impossible meat and rice tasted completely unseasoned. However, the Sesame Surprise over the citrus-marinated kale, was fantastic and flavorful and we fought over finishing it. It would have been cool to have half rice, half kale as the base so I'm not forced to choose between feeling full and getting my greens in. I also just looked back at my order and noticed none of the bowls are labeled as vegan. I'm not sure if that's a labeling mistake or if they were actually non-vegan, but I guess it's my mistake for not checking closely. Overall, I really like the concept of Moonbowls, but parts of the execution were lacking. However, they're still pretty new and seem receptive to feedback, so I bet they will get better with time. read more

I was hesitant about getting lunch here because of some reviews about how bland the food is. I like my food very strong in flavor. We ordered the sweet chicken with brown rice (to my surprise it also came with kale!) and spicy chicken with kale. They were both delicious! Both types of chicken were nicely flavored and juicy. The combo of the corn, kale, rice, onions, kimchi and peppers came together very nicely. We really enjoyed the bowls and will definitely return to try the other items! One thing I wish is that we could choose the toppings for the bowls. I would've loved to have the option to add kimchi and corn to the spicy chicken bowl. read more

I got a to-go order of the Korean Hot Chicken bowl. The chicken itself was pretty cold, hard, and under seasoned which brought the entirety of the bowl down in quality because it's the main element of the bowl. It's pretty bland and what's supposed to give it the flavor is the hot sauce that's given with it. I know this was a pick up meal hence it's cold but the chicken itself was cold and hard (kind of stale/frozen chicken that was bought preprepared) so I microwaved it and it was still hard to eat. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing and curious to see if the bulgogi is better, may consider ordering/trying out next time! This was a very intriguing place I happened upon. Turns out you order online and then you pick up from a kind of food hall collective looking place. There are some tables and chairs in there but looks to be pretty much geared to take out mostly. Once I figured out to check-in for my pick-up on the tablet, was just a matter of waiting for someone staffing the pick-up area to arrive. I ordered the pre-selected Sesame tofu bowl with roasted corn, sauteed mushrooms, charred peppers, citrus-marinated kale, seasoned seaweed, caramelized onions, green onions, sesame seeds, and our creamy sesame sauce. Served with a lemon wedge on the base of my choice which I chose Citrus kale. I also ordered the appetizer of vegan cauliflower wings tossed in Korean BBQ sauce and served with housemade vegan ranch dressing. Both of these items were GF AND Vegan....I am neither but I just like healthy eating options! The Cauliflower was delicious, flavors were stand out and the cauliflower was cooked perfectly. The tofu bowl tasted fresh but I would have like a bit more of a flavor punch from any of the included items like the sesame sauce or the kale. It was pretty mellow. All in all though, I felt good eating it and I am looking forward to trying one of their other bowls with chicken or different bases! read more
