"NY Style Pizza on MLK & University in Durham" I've actually been coming here on and off for 20 years, so I was surprised to see that I'd never reviewed it. It's solid NY-style pizza in a strip mall. You can order online or in the store at a counter, and they'll fix your pizza (or slices). I will say they always seem to overestimate how long it'll take to prepare, which is better than underestimating. Service is good and friendly. There's some seating inside, but not a lot, and not very inviting-- the place is definitely made for takeout. Quality is good. Some don't like the crust (it's a bit "tough"), but the advantage to it is it's easy to fold and eat without falling apart, like some other pizzas do. Toppings seem fresh. And prize is reasonable-- just under $20 before tax and tip for a 16-inch. They do have a vegan cheese option for a slightly higher price, too, but I've never tried it. Also a gluten-free option. Not the best pizza in the world, but solid if you are looking for some NY-style pizza, fast, easy, and relatively cheap. read more

The original Randy's in Durham. I remember when it first opened, and Randy himself made the fantastic pizzas and calzones. Oddly, this location has, over time, become the weakest of what is now a local chain of pizzerias. When I visited, a few years ago, it was extremely bad -- the dough was badly undercooked, and raw in places, among other issues. It's somewhat better than that, now, at least (all different employees -- all of whom were nice and also efficient). My slice was a bit under-reheated (a typical issue in the Carolinas). It was also under-seasoned and needed a lot of salt/pepper/parmesan help to get it to a passable state. For now, you're much better going to the other Randy's locations (the Miami Blvd one has been top notch for a few years). And, if you're really lucky, if you go to a location and Randy himself, or his son, is making the pizza (or has visited recently), it will be excellent. A little unfortunate that the original location is now a weak link. Still better than any national chains, though! read more

This is my go to spot near by now when I want a steak and cheese. Nice prices, good portion, and always tasty. We have ordered a white pizza here before as well and we enjoyed it, just your classic NY style pizza. I recommend ordering ahead to skip the wait. read more

Randy's on MLK Jr Blvd is the best of 3 Randy's I have frequented more than once. The Pizza's we ordered were one with Pepperoni & Cheese, the other was with peppers, onions & meat with olives, etc. The Pepperoni revealed a good sauce, not bitter, not sweet but real perfect for pizza. The pepperoni was fresh, the crust to the pizza tasted like real pizza crust not uncooked flour dough. The delivery service was on point & fast. The vegetable & meat pizza, I found the meat a little salty, & the vegetables made the pizza a little soggy, but still okay to eat. We also ordered a Steak & Cheese, which was very good. This had nice flavor, wasn't soggy with grease, you don't find this much. I do indeed intend to order from them again, and I do recommend trying them over the others. Favorite pizza spot in Durham since growing up so now every time I come home to see my family, we have to order Randy's at least once!! Always great customer service, can't beat the NY style pizza and the sauce is just right - not too heavy but tasty however not over powering the toppings even with a good ol' plain cheese pizza which is what we ordered tonight! This location is right in the shopping center on MLK with plenty of parking and easy access stop right after going to the grocery store or even the movie theater next door! May not look too fancy on the outside or inside but it's your local pizza place, what matters is the food, speed of readiness and the overall quality experience from the staff!! There are 6 entries in Yelp for Randy's Pizza. I am writing specifically about location on GUESS ROAD, on the edge of the defunct Northgate Mall. The Northgate store is a lot cleaner and cheerier than the last time I was there in 2021. The sit-down area is newish but still basic and boring. The menu board is electronic which means you have to wait for screens to flip in order to see the whole menu (or ask multiple questions of the cashier). Menu has expanded to include more pasta, salad, and dessert items. Sicilian thick crust is listed right up with the thin NY crust, no longer hidden as a footnote. True to online advertising, this location did serve the largest slices in town (photo). Crust was chewy but did not have that fine crackle that arises when coated generously with olive oil before baking. The sauce and cheese topping was rather bland for my taste, but at least it was low-salt and not excessively greasy. For the price, the slices were good value. Good neighborhood joint for bringing kids or coworkers for a quick bite. [ An employee there told me that 2 Durham locations are not part of the Randy's chain, even though they use the Randy's name (??). They have really big slices which I love and just a solid pizza slice. Nice crust nice flavor sauce isnt sweet and if you get your pizza hit you'll always have a cheese pull. I made the mistake of ordering a pie in one of the lower sizes and won't do that again. Unless it's a specialty pizza only order 16" and above so you can get those big slices. Love the overall standard pizza joint feel from this place and in being in NC for 2 years I only have 2 pizza restaurants menus and they are one of them. read more

While visiting my aunt in Durahm/Duke, NC, my aunt brought us to this cute, little, pizza restaurant. She wanted to share one of her favorite pizza spots, that come close enough to remind her of home (NY). She says (It's the closest thing to NY style pizza out here). After devouring a large slice of the cheesy, pepperoni, and sausage, I agree. It comes remarkay close to the famous NY pizza's. All the ingredients including the spices are freshly cut, and never frozen. The freshness of the ingredients really does make a big difference, on how delicious the pizza turns out. I'm saddened that we only bought one, because after we got back to her place, the three of us ate the entire box in about thirty minutes. read more

Local chain - this store seems to be well-loved in the neighborhood. People entering were sometimes greeted by name. I ordered a calzone and two pies for a family event. Found the crust to be very limp and the sauce to be almost nonexistent. Toppings were mostly clumped in the center, so there was a full inch or more of crust with no cheese or sauce around the outer rim. Meh. read more

I am originally from NY, and nothing comes close to authentic NY Style pizza like Randy's! The food is excellent-- my go-to order is an 18 inch (yes, 18 inch!!) Elia's Classic Greek pizza, garlic knots, and a Caesar salad with grilled chicken! I've been coming to this Randys since they opened and the consistency of the food and familiarity of the staff says a lot about Randy as the owner. Randy's is the best pizza I've found done here that even resembles North pizza. (I'm from PA) I would give it 5 stars, but I'm not a fan of their gluten free pizza. I've recently been gluten free and was happy they had that option, but the crust just isn't where it's at. It has a weird grit like texture to it when you get pieces that aren't crispy. Additionally, their website was a little misleading. It had shown a pizza that looked similar to regular pizza but obviously smaller, and that is not what I got. I stop in here every year or so, and most recently a month or so ago. A lot of folks from the area love this place, and I agree that it's definitely best fresh - like in the shop fresh. I normally get carry-out, and it's a solid pizza but not amazing. Lasagna pizza is good, with the meatballs and ricotta being quite tasty. Often grab some pepperoni (really recommend doing a double as single is pretty scant) and kalamata olive pizza as well, which is also a winner here. The garlic knots are a bit variable quality-wise. Sometimes super flavorful, sometimes rather dry and tasteless. When they're good, they're incredible, but I think I've given up on these after my last trip in. read more

Charged me for a salad I didn't get. I saw receipt in email. When I tried to tell them what happened when I called, they first hung up on me 'by accident', then the guy who never gave me his name or position kept interrupting me when I tried to tell them. They said they couldn't see the charge in their system and wouldn't accept my offer to email the proof of the receipt that I had been charged. They said the receipt I got by email was just a mistake--I have NEVER received a 'mistaken' receipt for a 'nonexistent' charge that when I checked was also showing up on my credit card. The manager kept interrupting me and wouldn't let me finish my explanations. I will definitely use a different Randy's moving forward because these people are rude and unhelpful. I hope I can get my money back disputing the charge with my credit card company because otherwise I paid $45 for an 18" pizza. So ridiculous. Especially considering too that the pizza was given to me 10 minutes after the pick up time when it was supposed to be ready. Such poor customer service. read more

Very average pizza. Crust and cheese were too chewy and was not flavorful. Not a friendly staff. They seem like they hate their jobs. I love going to places with a little enthusiasm because it's contagious. Prices were reasonable but still a bit too much given the quality. Most places are $2 or $2.50 a slice but this place is $3+ a slice for very mediocre pizza. Now, I'm a ranch with my pizza kind of person and so I really appreciate a place that will give you ranch with your pizza upon request free of charge so it really rubbed me the wrong way when I asked for ranch and they told it would be a $.50 charge for a little cup of ranch...after I had already paid. At that point, just satisfy the customer and give them what they want instead of making them go through the haste of swiping their card for fifty cents...no thanks. I would avoid this place. Their prices are unreasonable and the quality of the food is not very good. I have been here a few times previously and have had mixed experiences. I tried to order a large two-topping pizza last year. They had to repeat my order multiple times over the phone before getting it correct. They hung up the phone before I could ask the total price. When I went to pick up, they wanted $38 (after a discount). I ended up walking out of the store. The quality of their pizza is not worth near $40. This year: I thought I would give them a second shot and ordered wings and a Gyro. The chicken wings clearly had freezer burn on them and they were soaked in runny hot sauce. The Great: The food is always delivered on time by very friendly people. Would give 3.5 stars. We picked up takeout from here but they also deliver. We got the meat lovers pizza, garlic knots, and chicken Parmesan. Food was great and reasonably priced.
