Great old-school breakfast spot in Moraga that's clearly been part of the community for a long time. We brought our dogs and sat at the outdoor tables, which made for a really nice, relaxed morning. The portions were big, the staff was friendly, and the place has a classic local diner vibe. That said, the price felt a bit steep -- about $55 for a classic breakfast for two and a single coffee. I personally love this place. This is one of my favorite places ever. We always come here for brunch when we can and I always get orange juice and the "two eggs, bacon and two pancakes" and they serve it with butter on the pancakes and maple syrup. I can even describe how good it is. And this morning we had the best service ever. Felicia (I hope I spelled it right - who said started working there yesterday) was the nicest waitress I've ever met. She made sure we had everything we needed and was super kind and available in case we needed something. I'm really happy I can't even describe it. This place deserves more than 5 stars. read more

I have lived in/out of Moraga for 30+ years and for whatever reason, did not try Ranch House Cafe until this past year. It's easy to miss, but once you find it, you'll be glad you did. It's a no frills diner breakfast and very easy to miss. It's in a cute little red looking barn and the inside feels like it hasn't been updated since it's been opened - but it kind of adds a charm to it. I always get the corned beef hash. I've searched the far and wide through East Bay for the best corned beef hash, and I keep coming back to Ranch House. It's not too greasy and uses hashbrowns - quite simple qualifications, but you'd be surprised how other places miss this mark. I've only ever seen two different women serving here and I've seen how packed this place can get, so I applaud them for always working with a smile on their face. They make each and every visit very pleasant. Especially with Millie's having changed last year, this is my go to diner style breakfast now. read more

All the booths were patched with duct tape, the prices were outrageous, and nearly everything we ordered was overcooked (english muffin, corned beef hash, hash browns, toast, and part of a chicken fried steak). The only thing good was the scrambled eggs and the gravy on the chicken fried steak. I really hope this place does better, but we're never eating there again. read more

My father enjoys breakfast food and we come here every once in a while. Today though was a sure miss! I like the setting this place has on an old ranch with tons of seating, even tables out front. But today's experience and food were just awful! The place was loaded, all seating areas were full, and of course just 1 server. She's sweet but gets too busy to tend all those tables, so my father and I had to wait a while to order. We had the time so I wasn't too upset. But then the food came and it was awful. My father ordered an omelette and I got the Biscuits and gravy. They served us small portions and the food was cold. The biscuits were very thin store bought kind, and I know their sausage gravy came in a can. Very disappointing. I won't be taking my father here ever again! "Good Food in a Rustic Setting.." This cafe does not look like much from the outside, because it's an old ranch house--hence the name of the restaurant. I visited on a warm Wednesday afternoon, and there was no waiting. The server was very helpful. I asked her what she recommended and she suggested the carnitas enchiladas, which were a special of the chef. It was a good choice. It's quite a large meal and I could only eat part of it. It comes with the usual rice and beans. I guess I could have done without those. They have a few beers to choose from. I chose the Negra Especial, which was great for a hot day. Ranch House Cafe, known to my family as Moraga Ranch Cafe, is on our "to go" list frequently. Do like to take advantage of the outdoor seating, so tend to head that way when the weather cooperates. Both the menu and the food very acceptable. The setting somewhat unique. Nothing in the neighborhood at all similar. Both indoor and outdoor areas rustic to say the least. Cute look and feel of the vibes here at this place, but was not impressed with our dining experience. Came in as a party of two (boyfriend and I) on a Sunday around noon. This place was busy; understandably so due to Father's Day holiday. Sad to see that we were not immediately greeted when we walked in. Waited maybe 10 mins to get seated. Waited another 15 minutes to get our order taken. We ordered 2 eggs over-easy with hash browns bacon and toast, and a crab avocado melt substituted bread for marble rye with French fries, a coffee and a soda. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time--but, without our beverages. We didn't get our beverages until after our food and AFTER we brought it to our waitress' attention. She asked us if we ordered drinks--to which I replied: Yes, we ordered drinks...? Our drinks eventually came out, but no one came to check on our table to see if we needed anything else or if our order came out okay. My sandwich bread was incorrect. It comes as sourdough, unless ordered otherwise. Don't get me wrong, I love a good sourdough, but today I was feeling like Rye. It's a bummer it didn't come out as I ordered it. Seeing as how busy they were, I decided not to bring the error to their attention. The crab on the sandwich looked like it was half-hazzardly put together. My boyfriend's side of toast was stale. Also, not the restaurant's fault, but we had a disturbance of a child in the booth behind us that kept kicking his feet against the back of our side of the booth. Not the most pleasant experience on top of an already negative one. I get it. It's busy. It's Father's Day during lunch rush. That being said, I'm sorry to say I don't think it's likely we will return. Edit: My boyfriend also witnessed across the room that our waitress physically recoiled as she was being reprimanded by what looked like the manager. Totally unique, authentic, country, time-warp kind of place. This is not a "theme," or some manufactured identity, it's just the way Ranch House is. I know of no other restaurant like it in the Bay Area. Its backstory is interesting, but I won't veer off topic and get into that. The food is really good. Good portions, reasonable, fresh and well prepared. They make one of the best BLTs around. It's typically thought of as a breakfast place, but I find their lunch dishes better than their breakfasts. Service used to be spotty a few years ago, but they've now got two really excellent waiters who run things like a well-oiled machine. Moraga wouldn't be the same without Ranch House. read more

Nice, simple, no frills cafe. Solid 4 stars. In terms of basic breakfast food only, 5 stars. Odd building, you wouldn't think it was a restaurant from the outside. Older building that has some serious wear and tear. Old wrinkly carpet Blair chips. 70's artwork, slight Western theme. They had 4 tables when I came in for a late breakfast on a summer Tuesday. Not a large restaurant, but they still had a lot of open tables. I ate alone. They sat me in a table in the middle even though they had a booth open. I should have said something but didn't. They really should assume everyone wants a booth. First come first serve, even singles. Service was fast and efficient. Menu was basic and hand written. I've waiting longer at McDonalds for a breakfast sandwich. My food was out in like 4 minutes. It's like they knew what I was going to have and started making it even before I ordered. Psychics! $10.75 for a build your own bacon cheddar omelette. Has browns and sourdough. I loved everything. So much cheese. Lots of flavour. Perfectly cooked bacon in good quantities inside of the omelette and also some up top. Nice buttery and crispy hash browns. Decent sourdough. They offer Smucker's jelly/jam. I've never seen their Apple jelly, but wouldn't recommend it. I'd certainly eat here again next time I play a morning round of disc golf at the nearby course. read more

This is a cute little joint which will make you feel like you are on vacation. It has a small town family style restaurant feel to it making it very cosy. We were in the area and wanted to grab lunch but the options here are limited. We actually found this place on yelp with the search word 'food' and tried it since it looked very quaint. It was a good choice. It's rightfully called ranch house and has a small lawn in the front with picnic benches and the iconic checked white and red covering. The restaurant has indoor seating as well but we opted for the outdoor seating. It's a small establishment and it seemed to be a local favourite as everyone knew everyone there, almost like a family. That was nice to experience. We tried tuna cheese sandwich with side salad, the crab eggs benedict and the fried fish. The food was pretty good and very fresh. It had a homemade feel to it and wasn't meant to be a gourmet meal but a comforting one. The sandwich and salad was delicious 7/10. The salad was very fresh and is served with a dressing of your choice. My friends liked their dishes too. The food is very well priced $ and service is fairly quick. Note : They have specials of the day on a white board inside so do check that or ask the server. They close at 1: 30 pm approximately so do check the hours before planning a visit. They also have a unisex bathroom inside the restaurant. The staff was also very friendly and extremely helpful. It was overall a very enjoyable meal and I recommend this place to anyone in the area wanting a different meal experience. read more

Went here for breakfast with my boss before work. I got the crab eggs Benedict and he got scrambled eggs with hash browns and toast. I get that it doesn't look as fun and new as some places but the food is always good! Crab Bennie was seriously so good, fresh Dungeness crab and a tasty hollandaise sauce. Heard a dog barking and looked over across the street and here were people sitting at picnic tables having breakfast. Didn't even know this was a cafe. Old ranch house with what looks like stables in the back. Very bucolic. Looked it up on Yelp and decided to try it. Had a great lunch there today. Tasty Reuben sandwich and fries, my guest had a philly steak sandwich and a salad. The server brought the dressing on the side even though we didn't ask. So thoughtful. Huevos Rancheros---my wife swears by this, the salsa is incredible Huge Pancakes--some of the best, kids love them! Deviled Egg Sandwich--currently my favorite lunch. Their fries are yum! Chilaquiles--my goto brunch! big portion, be ready! Tuna Salad--delicious tuna, salad surprisingly fresh! Hashbrown--BEST I ever had. This place is not for the tourists. Then again, there really aren't any tourists in Moraga. Took me nearly twenty years to know the town existed. Curiously it has this rich history and even once had a train station. Much of the area was pear orchards or ranch land. And this place is The Ranch. It's perfectly frozen in time between the old past and a renovation never quite complete. It's gorgeous, and if you're a country boy you'll eat well. Don't bring your pretentious self here. Us locals don't want nothin to do with ya. And yes, it's the Bay Area so they have crab cake Benedict. The menu is simple, and the staff are sweet as the maple syrup. This has always been our go to weekend breakfast spot, even during Covid with take out and outdoor dining! Yesterday, however, both our omelette were almost inedible; thin over cooked eggs, very little cheese in a corner and all other ingredients thrown in clumps. It felt like the cook was out and someone who doesn't have any idea how to make omelettes was giving it a go. We're hoping this was a fluke and not a new cook. Realistically at a 3.5 stars. I recently discovered this place despite having lived in Moraga for several years. My friends and I came here for a quick local breakfast to catch up. It is a quaint little restaurant with homey decor. There was no wait when we showed up about 9:30 AM on a week day during the winter holiday. Plenty of street parking and the parking lot in Safeway. Breakfast menu is your standard fare - they got your eggs cooked any style with pancakes and choice of protein, they got your benedict, they got your huevos rancheros, etc. They have a few breakfast combination meals that are fairly cheap, which I have not seen lately in the bay area. read more
