I'm a little confused why El Jarro doesn't have better reviews. The food and service are excellent. The decor, especially in the back room, is charming. Prices are very reasonable. Tortilla chips are served hot, thin and crispy with a fresh and spicy salsa. We added guacamole which was addictive enough that I ate some with a spoon at the end of the meal. For a main, I ordered the Oaxaca Tilapia with Coconut Rice, Asparagus, Zucchini and Mango Salsa which felt like a light, healthy meal but was absolutely delicious. I would order again. Overall, this is probably the best value Mexican restaurant in Lafayette. read more

Staff are always welcoming, friendly, and the quaint decor makes you feel right at home. I've been to El Jarro a few times, with a friend and local business owner. She is a regular and I can see why. The staff is so friendly and the food fresh and delicious. I've had carnitas tacos, the Al pastor torta, enchiladas and chilaquiles. All were outstanding. One time they had a chili verde special that my friend ordered. It was so good, but sold out the next visit. If you don't find parking on the street, there is free parking behind the restaurant, down a very tight alley. Definitely worth checking this place out. One of my favorite spots in the area, I've been coming here for 5 years. The burritos, tacos poblanos, and tortas are some of my favorites. The service is always quick, even when it's busy, it's reasonable time. My only thing is that in the summer it can be a bit warm but I'm there for the food. El Jarro is a great local Taqueria. The staff is very friendly and the food is good. For Lafayette, it's very cost effective. We got two super burritos, one steak, and one chicken and street tacos. I just had their Mexican Caesar salad with prawns for lunch. OMG there is cilantro. Salad dressing is just amazing very mild and perfect. They have the best chile rellenos I've ever had, and I love Mexican food. Chicken tortilla soup: Cheesy, topped with fresh tortilla strips. A little too salty though. Burritos: Can't really go wrong with these. We got the chicken and pork burritos, and both tasted pretty good. Only complaint is wish there was less rice and more cheese + tomatoes and lettuce. Also, if you plan on sharing one burrito, just know that the fillings are not very evenly distributed (one half probably has more meat than the other, etc.) Overall, pretty decent place with very generous portion sizes! read more

More than once gone here well before closing time to be told by staff that refusing to serve as had decided to close early as not that busy, even when can see full staff there hanging around with each other. food is ok, but not worth the bad night time service. Stopped here for lunch after a run with a friend. We got seated at one of the few tables outside. I had a carnitas taco and a fish taco. They were both delicious. Fish taco was fresh and authentic and came with a slice of lime. Carnitas was tender and full of flavor.
