Vegan Chorizo Tacos (without cheese and sour cream)
Max H.

This place never disappoints! Had to post a second review with pictures this time for my fellow vegans. 11/10 would always recommend!

I got the nachos because I didn't see a picture of the nacho online I probably wouldn't buy the nachos again. I took the pico off. I was expecting it to be queso not regular cheese shredded but I won't get it again. The service is always nice. I shop here most days for lunch. They just wasn't my top favorite.

Headed to Comelones before dropping off a friend at BART - I've been nursing a mild quesabirria addiction & was lured in by their taco plate. My friend had 1 Asada Taco ($4) and 1 Birria Taco ($4). I ordered the $15 Quesabirria plate & an Ube Horchata ($3.50 for 24 oz ). I'm biased, but I think I made the better call. I was smiling from the second the Quesabirria arrived. The consomme accompanying the quesabirria was perfect - the onions & cilantro were finely diced, to be added to both the tacos & the consomme. The Salsa Verde paired perfectly with everything, and their free chips & salsa were also great. The Ube Horchata was undoubtedly a sugar bomb, but a uniquely delicious one. I used an iPad kiosk to order, which will send a text when your food is ready & an emailed receipt. The lag on the texts were about 20 minutes, and the lag on the receipt was a few hours. Np if you're not depending on the notifications, but I can see where that could get dicey if you weren't sitting & waiting near the counter. The guys cooking the awesome, 5-star food are also running the front counter, with immemorable interactions. If you're looking for anything other than a to-go experience, you may be disappointed. I also found the metal chairs a fitting accompaniment to a pretty chilly dining room. Not super cozy; eating in your car or taking food to-go may prove most comfortable. In all, I did not leave disappointed, and if I lived in Orinda I'd certainly be here more frequently. A return trip for a Shrimp Torta may be in order. See you around!

Hands down, the best quesabirria tacos I've had, excluding a renowned spot in Oakland. The tacos here are a culinary masterpiece, bursting with flavor. The meat is tender and juicy, marinated to perfection, soaking up all the delicious spices. Each taco is served with a side of rich consomé, perfect for dipping. The tortillas are fresh, soft, and slightly crispy around the edges, adding just the right texture. The balance of flavors, from the savory meat to the fresh cilantro and onions, makes every bite a delight. Highly recommend trying these tacos if you're in the area! Plus the customer service is exceptional!!!!!

100 tacos in 2024!!! That is how much I love being a Comelone!!! The Asada and the Al Pastor are amazing, and the Carnitas is so so lovely!

I've been wanting to check this place out for a while now and I'm so glad I did! The staff were so friendly and so patient with me while I decided what to get. I ended up getting small nacho fries with Carne Asada, three quesabirrias, and a ube horchata. I feel like you can never go wrong with nacho fries it had the perfect amount of fries, cheese, meat, and it even came with guac. Quesabirrias are typically too heavy for me, so I don't know who I was ordering three of them. One or two would have been perfectly fine for me on this day. The birria was very tender and the consome was very flavorful and delicious. The ube horchata had my heart, it was so dang good. I really enjoyed the flavor and how sweet it was. I do wish their hot sauces were spicy, but I can also understand considering the demographics they're typically feeding in Orinda. Can't wait to come back!

Still as good as the first time two weeks ago. Huge portions, great taste, and reasonable prices. Ordered torta, burrito, and quesadillas. Yum! Check it out :-)

I honestly was too skeptical to hear a taco place in Orinda was good so I had to try it out. I am pretty picky with my tacos but I have to say the ones I got (carne, shrimp, al pastor, birria, carnitas), these were all so good. If I had to choose my ultimate favorite one, it's the shrimp taco. I had such a great shrimp taco in San Diego that it inspired me to find something similar to that taste and I'm glad I can say this place is my SD shrimp taco dupe. I came during a busy time but service was excellent and on point. The food came out hot so I had to be careful to not burn my tongue! I also got chorizo nacho fries. It definitely reminds me of steak fries (would definitely want to try to the steak fries to compare the one near my house one day) and I really liked the toppings combined. I also hate horchata but I somewhat got convinced to try their ube horchata and actually changed my mind about hating horchata. What people describe horchata as a cinnamon toast crunch was what I tasted in the ube one. Sweet but not too sweet. Cinnamon-y but not too overpowering. There's not much indoor seating in the restaurant. There's honestly 2 tables and the rest is outdoor seating but when I meant I came at a busy time, literally all the seats were taken and lots of people did to-go orders. They were also not wrong about the restaurant playing Bad Bunny but I honestly enjoy that! Being honest, prices are pretty comparable to any taco joint during this economy but I am glad that parking is not an issue here! P.S. The co-owner of this spot is also the owner of El Trompudo in El Sobrante so I def knew this was going to be good before eating it!

Not tiny, but "huge" is playing fast and loose with the adjectives.

Salmon wasn't available and neither was any other fish. Servings were on the small side. I just didn't care for it.

It isn't cheap, but worth it. I had the shrimp burrito and beau had the asada burrito. Both were the best we've ever had. Delicioso!

Really tasty food. Has gotten better the longer they've been open with additional food items. Good for delivery or to eat downtown Orinda

The place is spotless, super clean, and you can tell they take pride in how they run things. The customer service is top notch, the owner personally greeted us and made sure everything was good, which made the experience even better. The menu has an amazing selection, and the flavor profiles are incredible across the board. We actually spent a few days in Walnut Creek and didn't mind making the drive to Orinda just to get some authentic Mexican food. Long story short, we ended up moving out of state, and now every time we visit California, this is a must-stop spot for us. (come on we all know the best Mexican food is in CA - Bay Area). If you like beer, they also have a solid selection, including a refreshing hazy IPA. Thank you for that, Mauro! We've been here on three different occasions and made it a point to try something new each time. We went through all the tacos, my girlfriend's favorites were the lengua and chorizo. And let me tell you, chorizo is hard to get right, but Mauro nailed it, perfect texture and amazing flavor. The lengua tacos are not for everyone, but Baja Cali nailed the preparation of this meat, because they were amazing, you actually get the desired flavor. And the asada tacos are a must, meat quality is there. The chicken enchiladas? You can't go wrong, great cheese balance and flavor. The super burritos are top notch too. Some places skimp on the meat, but not here, everything is well portioned and perfectly balanced. And the salsas... they have it all, from mild to spicy, each with its own unique flavor and they're all My personal favorite was the aguachiles. The freshness of the seafood and the layers of flavor were incredible. I had it twice, first day was the way the house serves it (nice and spicy), and the second day I asked for it to be mild and both were amazing. Thank you chef. And if you are not sure what you want, ask the staff, they do know their menu. Andrea kindly advised to try the quesabirrias, and they deserves its own shoutout crispy, cheesy, packed with flavor, and served with that rich consommé that takes it to another level. You can taste the depth in the broth, and every bite is juicy and satisfying. Easily one of the best we've had. Once again, that broth man! (unfortunately we didn't get a photo of that since we were eager to try them) We're already looking forward to coming back to California, and as soon as we land, we'll be coming in hot for some real Mexican food. Thank you, Baja Cali Taqueria & Grill family, we love you guys. EDIT: The prices are very fair for the quality you're getting. Good, authentic food is worth it, and here you truly get what you pay for fresh ingredients, generous portions, and flavors that hit every time.

Hit it on a Sunday late afternoon, which turned out to be the move if you want a quiet early dinner. We ordered the grilled fish tacos, the beet salad, and the mushroom pizza, and everything was tasty. The fish was cooked right on, flaky and clean, with fresh pico on top. Plenty of food for the three dishes between us. Service was good and the staff was friendly without hovering. The space has a cool wood and corrugated metal look, with sports gear and brewery signs on the walls. There's a full bar with a solid beer list, a decent wine selection, and indoor or patio seating depending on your mood. Valet parking out front is a nice touch. Our server said Friday and Saturday nights get packed, with live music and good people watching, so the vibe shifts depending on when you go. Sunday afternoon was mellow and easy. If you want the energy, hit it on a weekend. If you want to actually hear the person across from you, go when we did. Going back to check out the live music for myself.

We asked for sugar and condiments finally had to leave the table and go to a work station to obtain the items. Our food server dripped attitude probably because he was so busy, and it was evident given his shorts and footwear enabled him to run from table to table. The food runners and bussers were difficult to understand. The 4th Bore is there primarily for the local Orinda people who are fawned over. If you're not a local don't waste your time. I'm sure the evening service is better but our lunch wasn't very enjoyable.
