RAMON'S TACOS HAS MOVED!!!!!!…read more They are no longer in the parking lot of the El Campo Market on the side of 140. There is now a different (not nearly as good) truck in that spot. Ramon's is just about two blocks away, just a couple of turns down the road. The truck is actually still visible from the side of 140 if you look closely, but it is a little further from the road than it was before. Ramon's truck is now parked in what seems to be the driveway of Ramon's house. Maybe there was some sort of rent dispute with El Campo? (I don't know.) What I do know is that the best tacos in Planada, the greater Yosemite area, and the greater Central Valley are from Ramon's. So, having found this information in the comments on someone else's review, I recently headed out to Ramon's, and re-experienced the bliss. I ordered a carne asada burrito, and it was everything I'd been dreaming of and missing for months. The carne asada is so tender, so flavorful, and so on point. All grilled onions are good, but there is something extra special about these. The rice, the beans, the crema, all as fresh as can be. The value of the huge burrito with top tier ingredients for about $14 cannot be beat (unless you make it yourself and happen to be a pro). This is literally my favorite taco truck of all time outside of SoCal. If you are driving down the 140 to or from Yosemite, it is definitely worth the two block detour. Highest recommendations. Twelve stars.

This trip was no different except I'd begun in a different city than usual which changed the time and place that I stopped. While filling the gas tank at the Arco in Santa Nella I couldn't help but notice the taco truck (with shaded seating area) on the far edge of the property. Any plans for In-N-Out evaporated when I walked over and checked out the offerings. 6 tacos later ($2.86 each; 4 carne asada, 1 al pastor, 1 carnitas shared between two people) we'd both declared this place a winner. Had it not been so hot out I'd have also purchased a burrito for later. Or perhaps the 3 enchiladas for $7. Or maybe some quesabirrias. You see where I'm going. I thought the tacos here were declicious and was pretty certain I'd find the rest of the menu no different. Fresh and spicy salsas as well as a plop of grilled onions made these tacos as enticing as any In-N-Out burger and that's a compliment to both places. If you find yourself looking for very good Mexican fare in Santa Nella, look no further.

How did you know and why didn't you say so earlier? Avocado makes everything better. Also makes the value more palatable. Usually when I go to Taco Trucks, my way of evaluating how good the food is by seeing how they make Carnitas (is it a good mix of crunchy edges and warm juicy meat). I also like to try to Pastor since everyone makes that one a little bit different. I usually don't judge the Carne Asada, bc generally the kind of meat used is kind cheap and not as good. But... I think Carne Asada is my favorite here. It's different. not chunks or strips, but diced into almost ground beef size. Yes it doesn't sound good, but it just works bc it's crunchy. Call me crazy but somehow it works. I like it. Either way, the Avocado helps up the ante. You are... in my top 3 tacos in Merced. Not #1 tho :). Not gonna say who that is here... Oh get over it.
