We started with takoyaki which was very much improved and amazing. It was flavorful, tasty and a great starter. The dashi flakes and sauce on top was a great starter. Holy moly they definitely perfected what they offer. I never thought I would be a fan of dipping cold noodles in hot broth but here we are. The umami flavor of this dish was out of this world. The creamy broth, the flavorful sides and the noodles made this a quite enjoyable experience. Our party ordered shoyu, miso, and shio tonkotsu ramen. The waitress was very generous with the appetizers. She gave us a complimentary fried gyoza and shumai. We the broth was on the lighter side, but the egg was cooked well and was marinated. Noodles were on the thick side. The location and counter and tables seating. I was asked to leave just for having my child with me. My child is 9 years old, not a toddler. We only said we were two people when we entered and waited politely at the door. We did nothing rude, but an older woman kept saying the place wasn't suitable for kids because people drink here and repeatedly suggested we go to another restaurant. It was only 5 PM, and the bar was completely empty. There were plenty of open seats, including reserved ones that stayed empty while I stepped out. This was very uncomfortable and unwelcoming. A couple of my friends and I came here for lunch on Sunday after running a marathon earlier in the morning. The weather had turned quite cold, so it was a perfect day for a bowl of ramen. We were there right when they opened at noon. Good thing as the place was packed in a hurry. Had we shown up just a few minutes later, we would have to wait for a table. We all ordered some hot tea. As for ramen, I got their Uchi Kuro ramen. It was a soy sauce based broth with fried garlic, wood-ear mushroom, chashu, ajitama, spinach, and scallion. Loved this place. We went there for dinner today and loved everything that we tried. We ordered the Takoyaki and they were perfect crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. For the main course, we ordered two Ramen- the Jigoku Special with spice level 2 and it was the perfect spice level for us. The noodles were firm and the broth was flavourful. The second Ramen that we ordered for Uchi Kuro and it had lots of garlic in it (which I loved) . The broth was salty and flavourful. We also asked for fried garlic and chilli oil for the table. For drinks we had water and a Coke. The best part about this whole experience was the server- she was the sweetest!! She gave 2 Japanese drinks and a diet coke on the house. Came back again recently and I still think this is the best ramen in town! While Ramen 4 Real doesn't seem to be hurting for business, I think there's an easy opportunity to elevate the vibe inside. The one thing that is giving the interior a hole-in-the-wall look is the mismatched wall paint. My first visit here, came right at 12 when they opened up. So let's break it down, I've had ramen in both San Francisco and Chicago, some of which is direct transplant straight from Japan. For Reno, this is cool to come check out if you are craving ramen. But to me, this just doesn't hit it for authentic ramen if you have ventured around a bit to truly experience what it is supposed to taste like. Service was great, food came really fast, and our server was very friendly. Noodles were decent, broth was fine, but absolutely lacking depth. Thing for me is, I've had some really great ramen, and I even make ramen at home to fill the void of Reno not having anything that compares to true ramen. This definitely will not keep me from making ramen at home. True ramen eggs should be marinated and brown on the outside, these were not. I could almost overlook that, but the Chashu really disappointed me. I'm not sure if it's because I came right when they opened or what but ours doesn't even look like everyone's else's pictures. I was really looking forward to the Chashu itself because it does take a long time to make and I'd love to find somewhere in town up to my standard. Ours came cut almost paper thing like lunch meat and did not really taste like anything other then plain pork slapped on a flattop. Total bummer for me, consistency is everything, and the second the Chashu hit the table my mind went, "hey what gives?" This is hands down the best ramen spot in Reno! It's a small, intimate setting so just keep that in mind cause it can get very busy, but they turn tables very quickly. The menu is small and simple but don't be fooled, all items pack a flavorful punch! My favorite is the Uchi Kuro. So garlicky and rich. Perfect for the rainy day that we had today. Ramen 4 Real is such a cute little spot. The location is super cozy and a little small, but honestly that added to the whole authentic feel for me. We did have to wait about 10 to 15 minutes, but it was just one lady working her butt off serving and bussing tables so we really did not mind. And it was absolutely worth the wait. I ordered the shoyu ramen with extra chashu and potstickers. Everything was amazing. The broth had so much flavor, the noodles were perfect, and the extra chashu was the right call. Everyone knows that our family loves Ramen. This was my son' s choice for a small celebration dinner, and it didn't hurt that it is close to the house. We were gifted some gyozas on the house, which were great but the star of the show was definitely the ramen. I had the Spicy Miso, it was unctuous and flavorful with good umami and a nice kick from the chilies. The pork was cooked well and went perfectly with the miso. My wife and son also really enjoyed their ramen, all of which were quite large and very filling. The restaurant itself is comfortable and inviting. The lanterns and neon add a nice touch of Japan to the building. I came here on a weekday for lunch--lots of parking spaces here. The inside is very spacious, and there's a lot of seating. The waiter is very nice and friendly. I ordered their shoyu ramen. I love their Chashu. They roast/fried it before putting it into the soup. It's very tender and melts in your mouth. The soup was a good balance, I would say it's a little salty on my end. When it comes to ramen, I must say that I'm a sucker to try a ramen shop whenever I'm in a new city. While staying at the Silver Legacy for Christmas week, I looked on Yelp to see what we can have for lunch on Christmas Eve that was not only open but close to our hotel. I chose Ramen 4 real based on its high rating but more so that it was just a 6 minute walk from Silver Legacy. Mind you regarding the location, it's easy to miss since they don't have a large sign compared to two other Asian establishments in the same building. In fact when looking for the place and using google map, we saw we arrived but didn't see where it says Ramen 4 Real . We almost accidentally assume they were not there /or closed/ or taken over because of the lack of signage. But lucky we walked past the other 2 Asian restaurants to see this was at the far end corner of the building. So the ramen, I ordered the Jigoku Special spicy level 2 (1-3). And my wife ordered the Shoyu ramen (can't spice that up) The bowl the ramen came in I would consider Small and was the only option size. Despite its size, there was enough ramen for me to be content and full. We got lucky that we didn't have to wait since after we got seated, there was a steady stream of people coming in that we saw since we sat on the window seats. Our waitress/owner shared that the lines can be out the door on other times so we got lucky we came on a slow day. I definitely enjoyed my bowl of ramen. I almost regretted getting spicy level 2 since it made me cough a few times because of the spiciness but I think I handled it well and didn't deter my enjoyment of my ramen. Overall, one of the top 5 ramen places I've been to in my life and would say it's the best in Reno. Would I go back? Oh for sure.
