Ralph's truly did meet every expectation. By far one of the best pizzas I've ever had. The sauce was perfection the flavor of the quality cheese they use. And that perfect crisp yet fluffy dough. Upon entry that old school pizzeria ambiance tells you the product they produce is going to be great. The staff was so very accommodating and nice. Even while he was cranking out pie after pie he stopped gave my daughter some bubbles and put in a show for her tossing pizza dough in the air. That's not on the menu but making a little girls day you can't out a price in that. This is a takeout review. A lot of street parking and personal lot in the back. Something about the dough in this plain pie. It's not too much dough, the flop is perfect. It's not a thin slice but it's not a thick one either. It's not heavy which makes this guilty pleasure even better. Wow! I came here after watching a One Bite Challenge video. Dave gave an 8.9 and I would agree completely and this was amazing pizza. I was on a mission to try some of the best rated pizzas in Northern NJ. Today was Ralph's and Star Tavern and a third was derailed by someone else that wanted to try a not so highly rated pizzeria, Cedar Grill. I'll review on their pages but if you try, like me, to try these other places, I'd say don't bother and stick with Ralph's, period, end of story! I got two slices, a cheese and a sausage. Both were exceptional and I may have enjoyed the cheese slice the best. The crust was thicker than I expected and had a great "undercarriage" and an unexpected but nice crunch. The flavor was amazing. It looks like they cook the pies in a pan and I'm not sure if it's fully cooked in a pan or partial. Regardless of that, the pizza had great flavor and I wouldn't hesitate to go back and get more, daily! Seems like it would get quite busy in the small pizza area and there was a sit down restaurant attached. I went early (1130am) and had no trouble getting my pizza quickly. Staff was friendly and seemed appreciative of the business. On to the next top rated pizza joint but will definitely be back to get more pizza at Ralph's! read more

Dear Dave Portnoy, I feel like you lead me down a bad path. You issued Ralph's a high rating. I don't understand. My pizza was lackluster. Nothing special. a solids standard 7 at best. For everyobody else: We got caught between the take out and dine in folks. One employee says sit in the dining area, the dining area employee told us we couldn't! WHAT'S THE DEAL??!! After a few minutes of confusion, we were seated in the dining area. (Just to give you all the details- there are only like 3 small tables in the take out area and they were all full. We were a party of 5 that would be ordering more than a slice or two.) We had the waiter who rejected us from the area and I constantly felt like there was a communication issue. He would not take our order in pieces, we had to order everything all al once! (Weird!) We ordered 2 pizzas, mozzarella sticks and a cesar salad. The salad arrived and I requested additional dressing. I think he gave me a side os mayonnaise! I am not kidding! Is he messing with me or does he not understand me?? The thing he dropped off had no Cesar flavor at all. I just kept moving on. Bottom line the dine in experience was not welcoming or easy. The pizza was not an 8.9. We won't be back Ralph. read more

Can't give it a fair review on the cheese since we got a margarita with fresh mozz. Alone, I'd give it 4 stars and I'd go back for a slice. My 3 stars comes from the fact that to be seated in the "restaurant" area, we had to order entrees along with our pizza that just didn't come out great. I got the truffle pasta and my friend got linguini with pesto sauce. He could not finish his pasta. My pasta was heavy on the truffle oil. Both were missing salt and featured overcooked pasta. I finally made it to Pizzeria C after hearing so many great things about Ralph's Pizzeria. It's one of my husband's favorite pizza spots, so I had to see what the hype was about -- and now I understand why! The pizza is really good, and you can clearly see why they've won so many awards. There's clearly a reason why Ralph's Pizzeria has been around for over 60 years. It's a neighborhood staple with great food and service. The dining area is small but says nothing compared to the great service you receive. It's a BYOB with a liquor store conveniently located across the street. There's ample parking in their parking lot. Jordan, our waiter was personable and very helpful with our food and dessert menu. Joe, assisted with taking our order of several trays for an upcoming family event. We look forward to coming back more frequently. Friendly service and delicious food deserve frequent visits. Very good thin pizza, just not as great as I was expecting. It wasn't cooked as much as it could have been so the bottom was a bit too blonde for my taste. This robbed it of some crispness. The cheese was very good but there wasn't enough sauce to make a call one way or the other. Not as much caramelized cheese around the edge as I was expecting. How did we end up here? Funny story, we have a fave spot in Livingston and the owner there has treated us so well the last year. I once asked him where HE goes if he is not eating his own pies and he told me of Ralph's and how it has been a staple for him for as long as he can remember. Say less. The family and I ordered a large thin cheese pie and our son ordered an extra marg slice while I had a corner Sicilian slice while we waited. The marg was a huge hit with our son and he devoured it! I loved the Sicilian's sauce and crunchy flavorful crust. I could eat the crust as is! Now the thin was exactly what I have come to love in NJ as a Carolina transplant- flavorful and plentiful sauce, cheese close to the edge and cooked slightly towards the well side of things. We ate until we barely made it to the car. We also came out the gates hot and this explains why you do not see the whole pie here. Will def be back when we are anywhere in the area. After a year on my radar, I finally made my way to Ralph's in Nutley. Inside is old school charm and more importantly everyone is very nice and helpful. Parking is a little rough but they have a private lot down the street. We went with our usual Buffalo Chicken pie and I went with the Ralph's Pie (The works). After seeing it in the case, I should've gotten the Margherita but I was feeling like an everything pie. Next time, I'll hit the Margherita. Both pies were phenomenol. Well done just like I like it. Nice and thin but little flop. Ingredients were fresh. Buffalo Chicken was just enough spice and not overpowering. Have a little ranch or blue cheese ready as it could use just a drizzle. I started with the mussels with medium sauce which may have been one of the best I've had from a Pizzeria. Sauce was very flavorful and chunks of tomatoes mixed in. My younger son got wings and he devoured them before I could steal one. Lastly, we added a meatball parm hero as leftovers are always good the good day. I highly recommend starting with the garlic knots and both the regular and Caesar salads, the Caesar salad was probably the best I've ever had. As for the pizzas, the white pie, pepperoni, and plain are a must. Their pizza is so good, it's spoiled other places for me. And for dessert, don't miss the cannolis they're amazing!
