I'm calling out the Ralphs in La Crescenta tonight. I don't think I've ever used social media for this purpose, but here it goes. Few things upset me as much as truly bad customer service. Several months ago, I went into Ralph's before work for a few lunch things. I was in a hurry and a little bit late. No one was open, and the one cashier that I saw tried to nudge me towards the self check-out. I remarked that I was in a hurry and I didn't want to mess with self check-out, and I was told that that's what the manager, Manny, wanted all customers to do. I started to leave my items and walk out, and the the cashier stopped me and opened. When I suggested to Manny that he might want to keep a line open when so many people were rushing through before work, he made it extremely clear that he had no interest in my opinion. When I told him that I'd be shopping at Von's from there on out, he gave me a shrug. He couldn't have cared less. Tonight, we needed a few things. Ralph's is close to us, so we went there. We also decided to take advantage of their special to get 30% off when you buy four six packs of beer or cider. When we got home, however, my husband noticed that we didn't get the substantial discount. He went back down there to fix the mistake. The first person that he spoke with said, 'Oh, yeah, sometimes our system does that with new items.' Then she shrugged. She didn't offer to help him or seem concerned. My husband then went to a check-out line. The cashier was trying to be helpful, but she was not authorized to help. Enter the manager; my friend Manny. Once again, he didn't seem concerned that the store had inconvenienced a customer. Rhett walked over to get four more six-packs so that they could be rescanned and Manny followed him. When he saw that we were correct, he said, 'Oh yeah, OK', but he did NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP MY HUSBAND! He sent him to stand in line, again, and gave the cashier permission to try to figure out the discount. In the end, when she couldn't get the discount to scan properly, the cashier handed my husband nine dollars in cash, far less than he should have gotten, just to get rid of him. At that point, my husband was mad enough that he thought it wise to leave before he did something to get himself in trouble. Whatever happened to businesses caring about their customers? Not one person apologized at ANY point during these exchanges...except for Manny; When my husband told him that he would never set foot in Ralph's again, his reply was, 'I'm sorry you feel that way.' Then he walked away.
P.S. - The produce here is horrible. We used to spend easily a thousand dollars a month here, and up until about a year ago, it was our favorite place to shop. What a difference a year makes. read more
