Big Square is my favorite market for bread and flowers! If you love traditional Puri bread, this is the place! Made with quality flour and baked fresh hourly, they are usually served hot from the oven, and I can't resist eating 1/4 of it before I get home. The fresh cut flowers and plants welcome you into this Armenian market, with tall, vibrant roses unlike those found at most florists. Big Square also offers a solid selection of produce, meats, pastres, alcohol, and other goods. Specialty items like Armenian coffee, unique condiments, and hard to find deli products are always available. For meat products, they have frozen quail, which is usually difficult to find... however, I have never been a fan of their other meat items. The one time I purchased shank and liver, it wasn't as fresh and of quality I anticipated. Parking can at times be difficult and drivers are a bit aggressive. I suggest shopping here during slow hours vs. peak times. read more

Got some Zhingalov Hats as a treat today only to be disappointed. It was undercooked, overstuffed and over seasoned. Greens were in massive chunks including stems size of a quarter. Greens were not fully dried either prior to cooking so that resulted in just water pouring out with spicy seasoning. What was supposed to be a treat went in to trash in 2 seconds. At $6 / each it should at least have properly chopped greens. The line at the bakery area is ALWAYS an absolute chaos if you don't speak Armenian you are not a priority. read more

Just came home from this market. First time I've been there. After getting home, I weighed a tri-tip that I had purchased because it looked rather small. Turns out it was . I've had the chance to visit this store a good 5-6 times and I have always been impressed with their quality products and especially their bakery. Yesterday, I missed the turn into the parking lot and had to go around the block to come back. It's a tough street with traffic. As I pulled by the loading dock at the back of the store I was absolutely terrified and stunned at what I saw. I get it, space is tight for storage but that does not mean you store things outside! Especially not things for human consumption. Pallets of water bottles in the sun, uncovered. Pallets of all sorts of drinks stored outside in the sun all around their back dock. I'll definitely never buy a drink here again. With all the stories about microplastics and how chemicals are released from plastic into the liquids inside and this is how water and drinks are stored! Sorry big square. This is not how you show your customers you have their best interests in mind. I went by today and thought maybe I caught them in the middle of a delivery and it all got put away in a timely manner after I drove off. NOPE. Everything was still outside. Do not shop at this place no matter what. I have seen most of their items on their shelf at super king and other Armenian grocery stores and their prices are almost doubled the price. Want to feel unwelcome ? Come to this store. My husband and I enjoy learning about other cultures specially trying their parties and we landed upon Big Square while running errands in Glendale. At first we were excited to check it out until we walked in. Customer service was horrible from the start. From the girls at the flower department (right at the entrance) to the people stocking the shelf's consistent staring at us and watching what we were doing. I felt like I was doing something wrong by just trying to shop there. The cherry on top was the bakery though. After being passed up several times before we could order only to have a "young lady" roll her eyes at us and huff and puff away when we spoke English to her. She quickly called someone else over (who wasn't that' much more helpful) while she went to the side and gossiped with a customer. The whole time they were meaning mugging us, consistently looking at us up and down, with a disgust look on their faces, at time even giggling. Totally unprofessional. Such a disappointment in staff and environment. One nice this I could say was that our cashier (a male) was really nice. Other than that people outside of their culture are clearly not welcome here. The market itself is clean and nice. However, the flower department employees do not have people skills. They are rude and don't have the ustomer skills, to listen first, and understand what the customer wants. Instead, they push to sell what they have pre maid. Which is compared to other flower shops is expensive. I was in a hurry and I stopped by to buy some flowers, I picked the flowers and asked if they can add some other flowers to make the arrangement a little more presentable. She showed no interest in helping me, and the designer that was there also was very rude. I made a huge mistake purchasing the flowers there. How did I not write a review about their cheese puffs and lamajun (Armenian pizza). My son absolutely loves both and he won't eat from anywhere else, so we drive from Reseda to Glendale 3-4X a week to make sure he has a good lunch at school. We have also ordered cooked food from them Armenian bbq and fried chicken. Both plates were fresh and delicious. Their food is great and fresh. Service is great. I have been regularly coming to the store with many unpleasant experiences before and after. I do not think that it was a coincidence at this point that my credit card information was stolen after I have used it at this store. Additionally, you have to be very vigilant about the charges and the price tags and I am very disappointed. At this time I will take appropriate actions and ensure this gets investigated properly with authorities. There are many other stores that one can shop around this area. I have visited the store last week but next will be public health department and appropriate parties to get this investigated and resolved for good. This morning, I stocked up on cleaning products, air fresheners, beans, crackers, wafers, juice, baking foil and banana. They had toilet paper to stock, but only generic brands. So, I passed. Also, I picked up a bamboo board and pizza cutter. I took flowers too. And bought 2 vegetarian boreks (breakfast) and a berry creme brûlée (which I forgot about and somehow crushed) from the bakery. I spent less than anticipated, but they didn't have everything I had to get... This is the new market that took over from the old Korean one. Gah, I really miss that old market with their daily banchan bar and all my Asian needs. Needless to say, I took my time coming to the new one. It's still nice and clean, maybe even moreso than the old one. The bakery is still running, as is the small restaurant (now selling falafel and kabobs). I appreciate that their produce is relatively fresh and I can always swing by in a pinch. During the COVID-19 time, you will also find any paper product fully stocked - paper towels, toilet paper, tissues...with cleaning supplies as well. I'm lucky that I never ran out of supplies but it's great to know where to go when and if I need some. This place is using unethical pricing schemes. Picked up a packet of slices of basturma and sujukh, didn't really pay attention to the price. I discovered at home they are charging $29.99 per pound. Their own meat department will slice your choice of same product for $15-18. This is OUTRAGEOUS. They are clearly preying on the unsuspecting customers. It is a shame how an Armenian owned business is taking advantage of its customers. Go somewhere else unless you like wasting your money.
