This place the best place ever I had been for nigiri sashimi. Best dish was blue fin tuna and blue fin tuna belly. Chef (Simon) finish and insight information about each fish was topping on it. Very very good place to have sashimi and highly recommended read more

Raisu - Best blue fin tuna and best chef in Chicago - Japanese Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Visited for Father's Day, selected the menu for the day and although they were out of the Miso soup and Creme brûlée's and we were given a tiny Mochi as replacement of the dessert I can tell it was the last flavors they had. With (2 dishes of the 7 not provided I still was charged full price but my Fiancé enjoyed the meal and was very impressed which is why I gave it more stars. read more

This was delicious! The seafood soup was amazing. I had two specialty nigiri. The fish was very fresh. We definitely want to go back and try the multi-course meals. Try this place. The service was wonderful and the food was great. read more

My first time eating here and so glad I finally was able to. The freshest fish I've had in Chicago so far. The presentation was beautiful. The dishes were perfect to canvas all of the food. Major attention to detail. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable of the fish and very informative with the specials. Nice touch with the photos of the items on the phone. For what you get, I was impressed with the price. Raisu definitely has a great opportunity to be a long time staple on Irving Park. This place will definitely be hurting the other sushi restaurants in the area. read more

Tonight we have the best sushi in Raisu since we lived in Chicago over 10years. We like their signature Toro nigiri, Jumbo sweet shrimp, Hamachi, tempura appetites, salad and desert. Good service and nice place. Strongly recommend this restaurant to everyone. Attached pictures for reference. read more

We went there to celebrate 2 birthdays with a group of friends. It was the first time we went as it was a little outside our regular beaten path which was prompted by a gift certificate. We were very thankful for this as it was definitely a nicer higher end experience but the price tag was still very affordable. The food is very inventive in things you don't expect so be adventurous because the flavor profiles are AMAZING and their sushi is most certainly not basic. We tried about 8 different rolls and nigiri. There was also a Grenade on the appetizer menu that was unbelievable. The white tuna nigiri compilation was also my fav melt in the mouth. The place is on the smaller side which made it nice and cozy but still spacious so make a rez especially on weekends but lovely ambiance and the service was fantastic. There were no items we didn't like and a few we ordered more of! Wonderful experience and we will be back!! read more

Absolutely one of the best sushi experiences we have had in Chicagoland area yet would highly recommend! P.S. try the 20 year old whiskey! read more

Ugh...save your time and money and pick up some better sushi at Jewel. They rationed the soy sauce, had no wasabi or ginger. They also had no sweetener for the tea. How do you not have sugar in a restaurant???? The service is slow too. read more

We ordered House Special Miso Soup, Raisu House Special Maki Roll, Inferno Dragon Maki Roll, Japanese Ramune. The miso soup was the best I've ever had, and the rest was very good. We ordered at 5pm on a Friday night and received our order within the estimated window. We will definitely order from Raisu again. read more

I came here finally after my soon to be wife got her hair and make up done. Loved everything. Sushi and service are all top notch. Next time we will do the chef's menu and go that route for a new experience. If you live in the area this is a must try. read more

Horrible customer service and food was below average. We waited about 15 mins after being seated at our reservation time before the server came to us and took our order then waited another hour before anyone came to check on us. After my boyfriend told the waitress that we been waiting for an hour she went to tell the chefs about our order. The place was not busy for them to say it was busy. The table that got seated after us got their food way before us too. The first two rolls we got were rushed and you can tell by the presentation. It took them another 30 mins to bring out our last roll. We order 5 in total and they were taking their sweet time. I understand that it takes time but not a whole hour and 30 mins. The first waiter Carlo never came back to check on us just to pick up the check. Horrible experience overall. The second waitress that checked on us was surprised when I said it was an okay experience and the sushi was okay. Also the sushi rice was undercooked on the last roll the brought us. You would expect it would be cooked since they took over an hour to bring it out. I've eaten sushi many times before and never have I had to wait over an hour to get our order even when it's busy. Not worth the money. read more

The best Japanese food I have had in a long time. The presentation, service and quality are beyond fabulous . So happy to have found this gem, will be going back often. When fish melts in your mouth and tastes this amazing it is a must to add to your favorites list. read more

A real gem in the neighborhood! Came in during the soft open and was amazed by the quality of the food! I'm not a sushi snob, but this place is one of my better experiences. The owner welcomed us in person and recommended the tuna. It was melt in your mouth sweet and delicious! We also ordered the signature maki and nigiri and could taste the creative blend of flavors bringing out the natural freshness of the fish. Raisu had a really nice atmosphere and we would definitely come back! Additionally I'm so glad we tried the fresh uni, which is a limited hidden item that you have to ask about. Finally learned the difference between Hokkaido and Californian uni, and Hokkaido's soft creamy sweetness without the bitter tang wins hands down! read more

Very delicious foods! We did the 7 course meal and order a lot of sides. The fresh list are all very tasty. Wagyu beef is extremely tender and soft, mealt in your mouth. We tried the Wagyu taster and the stone grill Wagyu were we grill ourselves, the smell of the Wagyu on the hot stone is amazing. Uni is very good. The sauce for the sushi is a bit sweet and is very good, plus the wasabi itself tasted a bit sweet. overall the meal is amazing. We will be back. read more

Raisu - Stone grill A5 Wagyu - Japanese Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

I tried Raisu again even though I had a terrible first experience because the manager informed me that the rude waitress had been fired and explained they are working on the kinks. To be completely honest, Raisu most definitely was the best sushi I have ever had. Hands down. I would go down the menu to list my favorites but it's just not possible because everything truly is so good. I admit the prices are a bit higher than some other places but it was very much worth it. My fiance and I actually realized it is very reminiscent of Momotaro........but better. The owner?/manager? Jack truly is a visionary and I'm so glad that I am able to re-write this review. I was actually really worried that I would never be able to go back there because I was so traumatized the first time even though the food was amazing. There is really nothing more I can say other than if you truly love sushi, you should come here. It is an amazing experience but make sure you don't go there for a quick bite. This will take a bit longer because of the experience they try to create. My recommendations are to go on off hours, make a reservation, don't be in a hurry (don't make plans for afterwards), and try everything. You really won't regret it. read more

My wife and I have eaten here several times before the COVID restrictions and the meal and service has always been great. When normalcy returns try doing the omakase it's wonderful. Now they are offering platters To-go which we tried last week It was easily the best sushi we've had this year. read more

Worst food in my life. I will never go back. Do not recomend. The fish is not fresh and the price is too high

If you want unique and delicious sushi- this is the place. The menu is on the pricier side, but the quality and service is worth it. So excited to have this in the neighborhood! read more

Read previous reviews about this place because I live in the neighborhood. So many positive reviews--I thought we should try it. Made plans for a birthday celebration last Saturday evening. But still really wondered if it was as good as they all said. Happy to say--This restaurant is outstanding! Better than I could have ever expected. Cannot wait to go back! Super authentic, super fresh, amazing fish, great menu, excellent and friendly service!! Every dish, every bite--we all loved it! Even the bottle of sake was terrific. Do not be discouraged by the odd or "non-glamorous" location of this restaurant. It's easily as good as any river north sushi spot. It's a gem. Try it. read more

First of all, bring a hefty amount of cash with you as this place ain't cheap. The sushi is good, don't get me wrong, but for the prices they're charging it should be more plentiful AND better than it is. I'm guessing their sushi chef doesn't come cheap which would explain the high prices on the menu. Saki bottles start, yes start, at $45.00 and head north from there. We dropped $60 a person and we didn't go nuts. Meh - is what I say. read more

So the night starts off with my brother n law ordering sushi. THE NIGHT ENDED WITH THE WORLDS BEST SUSHI. This restaurant has such great quality fish. read more

After my trip to Japan, I couldn't find good quality sushi back to Chicago. Thankfully, I found this new sushi spot that only serves fresh sashimi grade fish. It is hard to find in Chicago and today, they have limited fresh Uni all the way from Hokkaido, Japan. This place is a gem!!! read more

Food was amazing when we were there in February. I especially LOVED the plating of our food. The dishes were beautiful looking in presentation and tasted really good in flavors. The creativity was great, from a simple dish even like edamame to more complex ones like the scallops one that had a whole lot of other ingredients and good mix of flavors. The service was great too. The only down side was the price--overall I always thought the restaurant was great but might be in the wrong neighborhood for that higher price level. It's not my business but I hope the business sustains/does well as most of the time we drove by it looked pretty empty. read more

The worst ever manager and hostess , we were 8 people , 4 adults and 4 kids , because of the kids under age 3 they didn't really want us there kept saying that waiting list is 1,5 hour when there was free table ! So much regret it that I drove 1,5 hour to get there from suburbs read more

So glad I tried this place. It's only been open for about a month, and the sushi quality is some of the best you'll find around the whole Chicagoland area. I had two pieces of traditional nigiri (hamachi and madai), one piece of their signature nigiri (suzuki), and the Snow White maki roll. Everything was delicious, fresh, and stood out from other places I've gone to eat sushi. The manager was also very friendly and attentive. I will definitely be returning here. If you're looking for a nice new sushi place, I highly recommend coming here. read more

Stopped in during their soft opening, and had an amazing meal. The tuna tartare was a perfect appetizer, and the maki and sashimi we had were both delicious. The service was great, and the place looks beautiful. Great ambience, and overall a great addition to the community! We will be back multiple times. read more

This place is not bad, but I had higher expectations based on other reviews. Food quality: 4/5 Atmosphere: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Value/price: 3/5 Food quality: My girlfriend and I came here for dinner and ordered omakase. We were served some kind of soup (pumpkin-based maybe?) first, then a salad with marinated sashimi, then a chawanmushi. All tasted pretty good, but my girlfriend's sashimi salad thing had 2 bones in them (1.5-inch ish long and thick ones, not the kind you can just chew through and swallow) which was a bad start to the course. All of the following dishes were sushi, often served in pairs of the same fish presented differently (like one soy marinated salmon, and one salmon with a pineapple piece on top). Sushi was great; I have not eaten better fish in Chicago so far, and is comparable in quality to what I'd eat in Japan (and no bones this time!). The portions were also Japan-sized, so it may not be filling for many people (my girlfriend was satisfied but I could fit a few more sushi in my stomach). No dessert was included in the omakase, and we didn't order any dessert. My only major food complaint is the bones early on, but increasing portions may be better too. Atmosphere: I was hoping for a nice atmosphere, but the candle on the tables just wouldn't stay lit. The server tried lighting 3 different candles taken from 3 different tables, but they all died within a minute; they need to get candles that stay lit. Additionally, the big windows looking out into the busy traffic ruins the nice decor of the restaurant. Service: Our waitress was super polite and helpful; after all, we asked her to light candles three times and she tried different candles for us every time. She also came often to make sure we had enough tea. My complaint is not with the service of the waitress, but something more fundamental. When the first few dishes were finished and it was time to eat sushi for the rest of the meal, we were offered hot hand wipes to clean our hands (I guess they want us to eat with our hands). This was good, but the wipes were taken away from us, and we had no good option to wipe our fishy-smelling hands in (short of going to the restroom). Additionally, I would like to have some ginger to cleanse my mouth after eating each fish, before eating a different type of fish. This way, I can enjoy the flavor of the new fish without the lingering taste of the previous one getting in the way. This is quite basic in restaurants that serve sushi. However, no ginger was offered to us, and I was quite disappointed. Value/price: Overall, I did enjoy the taste of the food, but considering the mishap with the bones, non-optimal atmosphere, no ginger and going home with fishy smelling hands, the $196 ish I paid (tax and gratuity included) for the two of us was too much. Perhaps it may be better to not do omakase if I come back again (it tasted pretty good so I probably will return). read more

They fly fish in from Japan every Wednesday. We ordered the omakase and it's the finest of its kind. Highly recommended for foodies. You don't have to visit Tokyo to experience the artful work of sushi anymore - trust me, I've been there, done that! From now on, I'll stick with Raisu in my lovely city of Chicago. read more

Amazing food, presentation, and awesome staff ! Simon is a great chef! Amazingly fresh seafood from Japan!

Fresh and delicious sushi! The Snow White Maki Roll is phenomenal! The service was prompt and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant!

This is one of the best sushi spots in Chicago. The maki, seared tuna, and salmon rolls are an absolute hit. All the locals love Raisu, but I would also recommend making the trip here from other neighborhoods. The service is always great and they have done a fantastic job of pivoting to a mainly takeout model during the craziness of 2020. Highly reccomend! read more

We had the best date night here. The staff and manager were so pleasant and helpful in selecting dishes to try. The ambiance was lovely, and we felt very welcome (we stayed for 3 hours)! Holy shmoke!!! This sushi at this place is straight up shmacking good. Now this is some of the most fancy and delicious food I've had in a while. Plus the portions are pretty big, considering it is a fancy restaurant, the portions aren't like two bites with one drop of sauce. So I rate it eight out of eight, would recommend to one of my mates because this place has some of the best plate of sushi. read more

Another amazing meal ! I attempted to dine here a few weeks ago and was turned away due to the restaurant being full. Friday evening at 5 worked this time. This is the best sushi in Chicago. There is a reason not soy sauce is on the table. None is needed. The sushi is perfect the way it is prepared. Tonight's special was a sea urchin imported from Japan. It melted in my mouth like warm butter. The shrimp and grenades were outstanding as always. I can't waitto return. read more

Delicious. The signature nigiri is especially great, but I usually also order whatever is on special and it's always amazing.

Came here tonight to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and could not be happier! The food was outstanding! Based on a prior review I went for the $75 omakase as well as an app or two and was absolutely stuffed! Everything was fresh and delicious. I'm not sure who wrote the "one star" reviews but the staff could not have been more pleasant or accommodating. Everyone from the servers to the sushi chef took great pride in the restaurant and offerings. I can't wait to go again! Side note the toro which was a special was heavenly! read more
