This is my favorite sushi spot close to home! All of the sushi and other non-sushi dishes I have had have been great. I really enjoy their crunchy spicy tuna roll and chicken pad Thai. There is indoor seating as well as outdoor, which is my personal favorite. The vibe is laid back, with lovely string lights that make it a perfect spot to go in the evening. I've also enjoyed their lunch special alone on work from home days with a good book plenty of times. The restaurant is BYOB, so make sure to bring a drink (or two!) to enjoy. The wait staff are great and service is always fast. Placing takeout orders on the phone is easy, and even on busy nights, it's max 15-20 minutes for pick-up. read more

This place was fine. Met up with a friend here for dinner and it was good. It's BYOB, which we didn't realize but that's on us. Mentioning it here in case it helps someone else! The ambiance is a little lacking-it's a pretty basic place. They do have the area where they make sushi so that was cool (though we weren't seated near it so we didn't see much). We got the bacon wontons, they were pretty good. Lots of cream cheese and a little bacon. My friend seemed to like her miso soup well enough. I got the Alaska roll. which was good! My friend got the sweet potato roll, which she said was good flavor but was hard to eat because it was so large. We shared the bacon fried rice. I loved this concept but was a little disappointed. I'm not sure if it was the melted mozzarella cheese on top (never seen cheese on fried rice before!) or the peanut sauce, but it wasn't my favorite. Also, it was freezing in there! We did go during the recent cold snap in Chicago so I get the weather wasn't great, but it was really cold inside which wasn't enjoyable. read more

The cutest spot for a sushi date! I love how quaint and cozy Fin is. We walked in without a reservation, which on a weeknight worked out totally fine for us. I wouldn't recommend coming here with a party greater than 4 people, because the space is on the smaller size and most tables cannot accommodate more. The staff working was so welcoming and attentive, it really elevated the entire dining experience! I started with the spicy miso soup. The kick is no joke, but on a cold winter night it was perfect! I was a little surprised it was so jam packed with vegetables as most miso soups are mainly broth, but I enjoyed it overall. The edamame was standard but delicious nonetheless! We ordered a few generic rolls like the California crunch and crunchy spicy tuna! Both tasted fresh and delicious. We also tried the honey walnut specialty roll. I had high hopes for this but the flavors let me down a bit. I would give the specialty rolls a try again in the future, but probably not this particular one. I've been wondering delivery and takeout from Fin for years. Really love some of their house rolls (for as messy as they can be). Different maki from our usual go-to of Gorilla so when we feel like splurging we'll order from here. I dined in for the first time ever maybe a month ago after coming home from a long trip and holy moly.. I wish I didn't because it honestly changed my mind about the place. The service was exceptionally horrible, which I am usually very empathetic and understanding about since I currently work in the service industry. However the two lady servers who were attending to us did every but. It took us forever to flag them down in a restaurant that only seats ~25 to actually put in an order. Trying to get the check was the worst - we not only tried to get their attention but I legitimately made eye contact with the one walking by and was still ignored. My partner who was also trying to flag them down laughed because one was head down doing silverware or something while looking miserable and like she didn't want to be there and completely ignoring everyone. We only intended to dine-in for maybe an hour since I was jet-lagged and exhausted but due to lack of attention we were there for TWO HOURS. We almost thought about walking out to see if anyone would actually notice, lol. The place is so cute and intimate and I'm heartbroken that we had this experience because it makes me never want to eat in ever again unless I have some serious time to kill and only want to chit chat and not eat. Rolls for delivery/take out are usually kind of loose but dining in it was kind of impossible to use chopsticks since none of the maki had any tightness to them so they would all immediately fall apart when trying to eat. Sigh. Damn it Fin. We love you (or used to?), but something is going on that is making it not live up to the potential that it could be. read more

Met my husband here for dinner after a class he takes in the area. Neither of us recalled being here in the past (separately), but recognized it as soon as we arrived. We made a reservation, but you probably could've walked in. I'm not sure if this is the norm or it was the unseasonably warm day with folks still enjoying the patio. You have to call, there's no option to book on their website. We started out with the spicy edamame, which was simple but good. I like when they don't just season the top layer, every bite had a little kick. We ordered three rolls Chilis, Snow Burn, and Green Turtle. Of the three my favorite was the one we were most skeptical about - Chilis. The chili soy paper was good! My next favorite was the Green Turtle. All were good, but these two were standouts. The place is BYOB, so we brought a bottle of wine. The soy sauce on the tables isn't low sodium, but they have it on request. Overall, solid little sushi joint tucked in the neighborhood. There aren't many spots open for lunch in our neighborhood and we've driven past Fin many times and wanted to give it a try. All I can say is wrong decision. First we got there soon after they opened. We tried several tables before realizing they were all sticky. Like permanently sticky. The miso was literally hot water. Zero flavor. They made up for it by bringing our edamame with salt poured over it making even the ones on the bottom inedible. My wife had the teriyaki bento box. The chicken was flavorless as was the sauce. Also the chicken looked and tasted like the frozen chicken breasts you buy in a huge bag at Costco. I guess I can say my three nigiri had pretty fresh fish but the roll was horrible. I had chicken pad Thai, pork gyoza, spring rolls, steak salad, Thai ice tea, Thai ice coffee, and for dessert, fried chocolate ice cream. Pad Thai and Thai ice tea/coffee was absolutely fantastic and why I'm giving 3 stars...If I had just this, I would be giving 5 star review. Spring Rolls were the worst spring rolls I've ever had in my entire life...Why are beets in this? A total misfire of flavors which is a shame since it's hard to find these types of spring rolls at Thai restaurants nowadays...bummer Steak salad was nicely cooked but the lemon grass dressing was pretty terrible tasting...And more earthy dirt tasting beets on top of salad...Why? Pork gyoza was serviceable but nothing special. The fried chocolate ice cream was pretty awful...How do you mess up fried ice cream? Try using too much batter...Way to doughy. They had heaters and there was only one other party so we had no problem sitting outside. The food was so good we kept on ordering more and we never really order so much, so that says something. My friend and I dined here and were extremely disappointed. Calamari was like eating rubber dipped in sand / gravel - poorly cooked with no flavor. Waitress's customer service skills were terrible and she couldn't be bothered to open a bottle of wine nor bring wine glasses - both a must at a BYOB place. We had maybe one dish out of four that was okay with the rest being bland, not fresh tasting (at a Sushi place!!!) and substandard. Pretty nice location in good ol' Ravenswood. They have a pretty nice outdoor patio, and inside the venue has a modern vibe. The server was super nice and friendly. Water was refilled consistently and timely. I had the chicken terriyaki and it was really good. Chicken was cooked perfectly, and the rice was soft and sticky... the way I like it. There's just so much on the menu -- from sushi (of course) to thai food, to chinese food. This place is worth taking several repeated trips to. Definitely will be going back. BATHROOM REVIEW: The bathrooms are single person, for men and women, respectively. Bathroom consisted of an always-running toilet (hate to see their water bill) and a sink. Overall, bathroom was decently clean, excluding the dead-for-who-knows-how-long spider, by the picture frame (I took a picture of it). Sink was in working order. Sit or squat? Squat... I love this place for its lunch specials and decently priced sushi! I am glad I can walk to here because it's such a great option for a quick and filling lunch. I usually stick to the three roll sushi lunch special. This also comes with soup. The miso soup is delicious-the stock in the soup is so much more rich and flavorful than many of the other miso soups I've tried from other restaurants. The rolls are well made and the portions of fish-to-rice are great. I feel like you get more than a decent amount of fish in each roll. Some of my favorites include the spicy tuna roll (because it isn't caked in mayo, but I believe tossed in a bit of chili oil, instead), the Atlantic roll (salmon), and the Una-Q (eel) roll. Service is always fine, but I'm usually in there during lunch on the weekdays. There usually aren't many people dining at this time. Also, in the summer they have the cutest little patio! It's a very comfy place to eat and relax for a bit. I prefer to order from here when it comes to getting sushi in the local area. I know there are slightly closer spots to me, but for the price, portion, and taste, Fin Sushi wins! read more
