I've lived in the area for 3 years and I have struggled to find a nail place that is professional, clean, and actually does work that I leave extremely happy with every single time. Until I found this salon, Rainbow nails! I have never left unhappy, they always do an amazing job, Rosie is phenomenal and her staff is also great! I love the No chip manicures and pedicures! They wax eyebrows and my eyebrows are very difficult to work with and it was no issue at all for them! My eyebrows looked perfect when I left! I love the vibe of the salon! Gorgeous decor, always super clean, beautiful fish tank, and great energy! I would highly recommend rainbow nails to everyone and anyone I know because of how great I'm treated! So upon visiting Chicago for my nieces quinceanera I had to go to the nearest salon to get my nails done as quickly as possible because of the strict schedule of the day. I walked in on a Friday afternoon and it was empty, I was greeted and asked if I wanted to upgrade to a gel manicure after I told her I only wanted a regular manicure. I sat down on chair number nine and the manicure started, it wasn't anything special but she was very soft and didn't hurt me or pluck any blood which I'm OK with. Overall let's just say that I'm glad this isn't my go to salon! My nails chipped after three days and I already have cuticles growing back, and they didn't have that many color options for regular manicures either. I'm on the fence between a 3 and 4-star. My girl was a bit rough when she did my toes. She clipped my toenails and filed it and I could feel the emery board rubbing against my skin. It was almost painful but I sucked it up. Then she asked if I wanted to pay first so I grabbed my credit card but then she said she'll charged me later so I didn't see the point of that... I also asked if I could tip on my credit card and she said no, which I thought was strange. Luckily I had some cash on me that day. I did get the upsells that someone mentioned but it was brief. (Do you want eyebrows done today? and the Do you want No-Chip?). I did opt for the No-chip because I wanted my nails to be perfect that weekend for my birthday and because I wear Invisaligns at night and that means popping retainers out with my nails. I always get french so when I noticed she was making the tips a little too thin, I mentioned it and she re-did them to make it thicker (although said something quickly in Vietnamese to the lady next to her). All in all. The nails look good and they lasted. I'm on day 5 now and no chips yet so I'm pretty happy. Price: $60 for french pedi & no-chip french mani. I've been going to rainbow nails frequently now and almost always do I end up satisfied. Nikki does a really good job if I was to recommend a specific person. All you need to know is which shape suits your nail. Their were times where honestly I felt my nails being rushed. Other wise they are really nice girls who do a wonderful job. I had a surgery one of my pinkys and have always been uncomfortable about it. Nikki always works on my nail perfectly. **Update- I came a bit late today however not for something extremely time consuming. I came to get an acrylic fixed only on one nail because it was broken. They still accepted me to do my nails which I appreciate but it was very very rushed. My nail was cut by my nail tech and was not even apologized for. I understand it's not the biggest deal however it was quiet painful in the end. When I tried to mention it by blowing on it to dry she blowed on it herself and smirked. My nail color was quickly painted on but very sloppy. It was disappointing to see that I was a frequent customer and I was treated very poorly. I did not mention previously but I feel like I am always talked about when I am here. Honestly think I will stop coming here because of this experience. It's a shame that customer service does not matter when you are going rushing to close even before hand. I understand this working in customer service myself, but I do not try to give attitude to people that come late. I honestly love the service here normally besides that they always seem to be talking about the customer in front of them. More updates- I still enjoy some of the nail techs here, however I got disappointed because they charged me for removing the very little I had left of my acrylics. By removing I mean ripping off my nails with a different nail. Pretty much no mercy how much it hurt. I wasn't offered an acrylic soak, and when I brought it up it was neglected. Today was my first experience at Rainbow nails. I thought my nail technician did a really good job! I like my nails longer and that's what I asked for here with no problems. I wanted one of my nails a glittery blue green which turned out slightly more translucent than I would have liked but overall it was a job well done! She made sure I liked the color and style. For the price ($25), these are a really good deal for acrylic nails! A con would be that they do not do many special designs and things like that (at the moment). I have heard that this place is a hit or miss depending on the technician but I think mine was very good. Some people also have said that the technicians talk among themselves in the language they both speak and while I noticed this too, it didn't really bother me. They talked quietly and were still attentive and quick. The last time I got my nails done I did them at River Nails in River Grove (close to Cumberland/Belmont intersection) and they charged about $10 more for nearly the same result. Will have to see how long these last but I will probably be returning here. As previously mentioned, they could use an update on polishes but I found what I was looking for. I honestly liked the place so not sure what all the fuss is about. read more

I've come here a few times during my lunch break and not only do I have enough time to grab a coffee on the way back, but it's also close to a bunch of other shops in the plaza. They have a lot of colors to pick from and it's always a plus when they give you a mini hand massage! All the girls are super friendly and like to socialize with their customers. Terrible experience!!! Absolutely terrible!!! This woman put my acrylic nails on crooked and when I asked for her to fix them she told me "sorry no I'm busy." Then during putting the nails on I kept asking for her to cut them shorter and she just would not do it. The other ladies who have been there the longest have attitudes and the younger ones that are newer never get my $30 no chip to last more than a week... I have tried other salons, some nicer, some mediocre but have been left dissatisfied 95% of the time. Rosie is very detail oriented and takes pride in her work. The first time I went here, I didn't like it. It was really busy and the ladies in front seemed very rude. I was very loyal to my other nail place, but since it has become somewhat problematic, I decided to give this place a second try. Since then, I have come here regularly! I almost always go to Niki (sp?)! She is petite with short hair, at station 7. She is the sweetest, most humble girl I have come across. She's quiet but in a comforting way. When we do have a conversation, I could tell she's genuine and very sweet. Not to mention, she does my nails great and efficiently!!!! If you come here ask for her! Only once have I come here and have been treated professionally or had a good experience (by Mimi). Rainbow nails 2 is the way to go though, even they, also have their flaws as a nail salon. I walk in one day looking to just get a fill. They bluntly ask me what I want. I tell them, and they ask the lady next to me. They saw that they could make more money off of her, so they took her before me. I sit and wait patiently, mind you, as one nail tech finishes with her client and sits there eating sunflower seeds as we make eye contact. 20 min pass as I still wait for help and still am ignored. I walk up and ask if I'm going to be seen soon, and the lady says 45 minutes as they mingle in their language amongst themselves. I continue to ask her why she didn't tell me from the beginning. She goes on to tell me I could wait or come back "innocently" as if my time meant nothing. I left. I gave this place another shot being that my friends said it was a decent place. I come in to have my acrylics removed half an hour before close. She asks me to sit in her chair rudely; she could've just said it wasn't enough time. She doesn't soak my nails. She used a mini clipper to yank all of them off as my acrylics fly everywhere, and I'm in pain. She tries to achieve it quickly breaking one of my real nails and blaming it on me saying I walked in with it like this. I could've ripped them off myself like that . She later soaks them when she sees I'm in pain which burned like hell. She massages my hand and compliments my rings after she realized she f****d up. Not only did she find it humorous telling me it hurts, I paid full price for a half a** job. Save your time. Will never step foot in this place ever again. UNPROFESSIONAL. Mean. I only give 1 star because my tech was very pleasant and friendly. The pedicure however, was a mess. I had to ask her to scrub the heels of my feet, which obviously needed some serious attention. She never pushed back or cleaned my cuticles - uhm, wtf? That is the point of a pedicure. She cuts the nails SUPER short, and only did ONE coat of gloppy nail polish. She should have seen that it was gummy and treated it. I had fuzz stuck to the polish on TWO toes, there was polish on my skin, and it was sloppy as hell. I only went here because my place was closed early on a Sunday - next time, I will wait the extra week!! Would not go here, this was a total waste of time and my toes look terrible. read more

It may not be fair to write a review based on my experience here. My fiancé and I came here for pedicures. We both sat down together and they started with him first. While I was waiting I was taking a closer look around and realized just how filthy this nail salon is. There was some type of build-up in the crevices of the bath my feet were in and I had to politely get up and leave before they even started. I'm sure the staff here does a good job but I just couldn't get past how dirty everything was. Working in this industry I know first hand the hazards of tools and equipment not properly sanitized and cleaned. I have done manis-pedis here about three times and every time the work has been mediocre. I've had manicures and pedicures that last longer than the three days they last when I get them done here, but I return because I live a block away. On June 21, I was looking forward to a relaxing mani-pedi before my cousin's wedding, but it was everything but serene and calm, especially since it led to a pounding headache. A parent brought 11 screaming girls - who I'd guess may be incoming 3rd graders - to get manis and pedis. There were more children waiting for mani-pedis than technicians, and the salon was already full with adult customers all being serviced. No technician was free. Sure, from the business perspective, you are going to bring in a lot of profit from so many children, but the business should have done one of the following two things if they were planning on hosting such an event. a. refer the parent to a children spa/nail places whose specialty is to serve children clientele and do parties like this; they created these businesses for a reason! Didn't want to opt for that and wanted to serve the kids? Okay, at least tell the parents to calm the kids down. Screaming, yelling, whining, fighting over colors and who'll go first and second and third, running around, bumping into things...yada yada yada..all accompanied by a toddler son watching cartoons on the iPad at the highest volume ever. Option b. Close your business for an hour or however long required, notifying your customers in advance that you'll be closed due to a special event. I made an appointment that day a week in advance, had to wait about 5 minutes to get a chair, and was succumbed by all the noise and madness. Upon arriving home, I called the store and addressed my concerns to the owner, telling her everything I stated above. She was apologetic and offered a free mani-pedi the next time I need one. I called this week reminding her of our conversation and requesting an appointment on Friday. She said I could come anytime, no appointment necessary, but tried to argue that I only got a pedi, not a mani, so I could only get a pedi done for free. I told her I have the receipt for proof, and we ended at that. A few minutes later, she called me back and said that I can't come Friday because it will be busy and therefore too loud for me and she didn't want me to get a headache again - basically, she knew that that was the only day I could come in and was trying to get herself out of her promise. I went in Saturday, July 12 at 9 am, as soon as they opened, for my free mani-pedi. She said I made an appointment for Friday and didn't show up, and I told her, no, you told me I can come in whenever and that you didn't want me coming in on Friday. She again argued that I could only get a pedi because that's what I got on the day of the horrible service; I immediately pulled out the receipt and showed her that I indeed had a mani-pedi that day. She yelled out to one her technicians in her language, presumably that I was getting the service for free. While I was picking my nail polish color right in front of her station, she started talking about me to the client she had, telling her that I complained about the children's party. The client looked at me and rolled her eyes. The owner's attitude and demeanor was unprofessional. I know we're all looking to make extra money in this economy, but Rosi is not looking out for her clients; she is looking out for her business only and how to bring in extra money, even if that means a packed salon with 12 frustrated adult clients, all whose faces read "This is ridiculous" while surrounded by 11 impatient, loud, obnoxious children running outrageously around the salon. Satisfied clients will return, Rosi, but only if you are respectful of their time and money. A spa is for relaxation, not for a circus of children. Weigh your priorities and consider your clients' needs and satisfaction. read more

I was introduced to Rainbow by a friend and I'm glad to say that their service lived up to her recommendation. Top notch staff for both manicure and pedicure. They were fast, efficient, friendly, and reasonably priced. I should have gone with the no-chip (and they told me to do it) but that's on me. Don't patronize this business unless you want to deal with unprofessional and rude nail technicians. When I asked them what they use to disinfect their utensils/equipment I was given a dirty look as if though I had asked her "Do you have a criminal record?" I found this place to be very unprofessional (now I know why their prices are reasonable) and not very up-to-date with trendy colors. The selection of colors appeared to be left over from the late 1990's. They didn't seem to want to answer my questions.The red-flag for me should have been how very empty it was when I walked in, but now I know why. Customer-service really sucks here. This place could use an update or major overhaul renovation. Since they were not willing to answer my questions, I decided to leave and not have my pedicure done here. I am glad I opted to leave. I thought it was rude that they were speaking a foreign language in front of customers. For all I know, they could have been calling me a "bitch" for asking questions. As a consumer, and paying customer, I have the RIGHT to ask questions and they have an obligation to answer these questions. If they decide not to answer my questions, that is on them. If my questions are not answered I view it as "they are hiding something." I would not recommend this place, because of what I experienced (and it was my first time here).
