Let me start by saying the food was very good. The issue here was the service. We were two women traveling from California to Florida avoiding I-10 due to Hurricane Harvey. My friend is moving to Florida and I volunteered to accompany her so she didn't have to travel alone with her two dogs and cat. We found this place close to our hotel. This was our last night on the road and we were ready to have a nice meal. We were sat at a booth near a table with about 8 people. We had the same server as they did. After a bit of a wait our server came over and asked about drinks. We ordered a beer and a wine. Someone else came over and asked, also and I said we had ordered but I would like a glass of water, LIGHT ice. The water arrived FULL of ice. When our drinks arrived I asked our server for another water, no ice this time. I just can't drink really cold water. We were nothing but polite. As we waited some to time order our meal it was becoming clear that she was far more interested in taking care of the large table. They were loud and boisterous. When she did finally arrive to take our order we explained that we would like to share an appetizer (crab cakes at 12.00 and the stuffed tilapia at 16.00) We ordered the two sides (salad and twice baked potato). The large table continued to get louder. Frankly, we expected a manager to come at any moment and ask them to contain it a bit. There were clearly others who were not pleased. We could not talk to each other at all. As other tables left that area of the restaurant we decided that we would ask if we could be moved to another section. There was a place near the front separated from the loud table. We thought the loud table would be leaving soon, but noticed one person was still eating and then they ordered more drinks and dessert, so we knew we had to leave. My theory??? The server ignored us because we were two (slightly older, LOL) women who she, MISTAKENLY, assumed she would receive a small tip from and she WOULD receive a large tip from the LOUD table. My friend and are past servers and know what a hard job it can be and will tip generously, It takes a lot for us to leave a minimal tip and we NEVER stiff a server even under the most egregious circumstances. When the salad arrived we asked if we could move. The runner said yes, and that they would help. We picked up our drinks and then realized the runner was gone! So, we picked up everything that we could and found a table in the more quiet section. I went back to pick up the remaining items and found the table completely cleared! I asked the busser about it and he said he thought we had left! I said, no we just moved and could we please have the basket of crackers, etc. brought. He brought them right away. We ate the salad. Then the crab cakes arrived. Notice that this is out of order. Crab cakes were to be the appetizer. No problem, though. Crab cakes were okay. My fiancé is a chef and no one makes a better crab cake so I am always measuring against his. Then the main course arrived. When it was delivered it was another server who brought it. The server who did bring it made a point of saying they had brought us a larger salad because we were "sharing". While appreciated, we did not ask for this. I don't know if they thought they were compensating for us having to move everything from the previous table...The main course and twice baked potato were quite good and we enjoyed our meal. Finally, our original server made an appearance and asked if we wanted anything else. As stated earlier we left the basic 15% tip due to the lackluster service from an disinterested server. While our bill would not been nearly as high as the LOUD table's we certainly deserved to be treated as the paying customers we were. read more
