I love coming here. Located on Fort St Mall a couple shops down from McD's, this place is connected to Vicky's Filipino Food restaurant. The piroscki and squid are both delicious!!! Squid is pungent but I don't care. hahaha Both are fried so you'll have to like fried foods. hahaha Sometimes I'll get a scoop of rice and a side of fried squid as a quick small lunch. Piroshkis do not taste like this and aren't supposed to be that big! Not only did the cheese cabbage and beef was too greasy there was a weird to it. The calamari seemed like it was recycled and they were too lazy to remove the innards from the head! Lastly, although the salad was fresh, the dill leaves in the vinegarette got to go! read more

Ever wondered what a hole-in-the-wall joint looks like? Well, walk into Vicky's Filipino Fast Food and look no further! As sad as I was to find out that the original Rada's Piroscki had closed down, I was elated to learn that Vicky's had "bought out Rada's Piroscki recipe" (or at least that's what my mom told me) and continues to sell them just as cheap as they were back in the day. But the best part is...it tastes exactly the same as I remember it! My favorite is the chicken and cheese piroscki and you gotta try the fried squid. Beware though, Vicky's does not sell pirosckis on Sundays :( I've seen many of my favorite foods and food joints come and go, but Rada's pirosckis are one of the things that I hope to be able to enjoy for a long time to come :D read more

I had my first piroshki in years, been craving it for awhile but been to lazy to make the trek downtown for one. Luckily my brother came to visit me at work and what did he bring? Yes, a nice hot meat filled Rada's Piroscki! It was just as I remembered it when I was young. The crunchy outside, the sweet doughy inside filled with juicy, peppery meaty goodness. I've read recent reviews which haven't been too flattering but well you just have to try it cause they aren't very expensive, close your eyes when you order cause the place isn't very pretty but guess what you're in Fort Street Mall for heaven's sake. read more

Why did they not stick with Rada's original recipe? Where's the cheese? I loved that wonderful babushka lady's creamy, cheesy filling in that crispy crust in the early 1970s, and was saddened to hear that she'd passed on. Ok..I read the good and bad reviews about this place before checking it out. I read that Rada's was filthy dirty, that the lady at the counter is rude, and that the meat in their piroscki's (is that how you are supposed to spell them??) is made out of cat. Well, upon arrival I noticed that the place isn't as dirty as I anticipated...but also not as clean as I would expect. Well I picked up two cheap pirosckies and went back to the office. When I opened up the grease stained paper bag I was immediately affronted by the smell of three-day old frying oil. Before I even bit into the doughy ball, I felt nauseous. I dissected this meat-doughnut from hell, revealing its innards. I could make out strands of cabbage (or something that resembled cabbage) and "the meat," or whatever it was. The disgusting smell and appearance was so off putting that I decided to throw the fried monstrosity into the garbage can. I'm glad I did..I have no regrets. I actually attempted to take a bite before I tossed my pirosckie...but I spit it out when I noticed that the old grease smell was exactly how Rada's Pirosckies tasted. Old. I've had good piroshkies in Seattle at the famous shop, "Piroshky Piroshky." This place was amazing. They had a million varieties, they were made fresh, and they were not greasy and disgusting. They were the standard. Rada's not only did not taste like an authentic piroshky...it shouldn't even be categorized as a "piroshky" or "pirozhki" (how it should be spelled when phonetically translated). Obviously, Rada's did not do the research on how to properly spell the Russian delicacy they are trying to mimic and have failed miserably on properly applying the ingredients and techniques for making them. Hopefully Rada's will soon be condemned by the Dept. of Health and permanently shut down. At least I will have no regrets about not eating that hideously vile, toxic greasy meat sack that was made in the pits of hell. I don't know if I would have survived long enough to write this review if I had. Eat at Rada's if you dare, but be forewarned. I hope you have good health insurance and have adequately prepared your last will and testament. read more

Had me some piroscki while strolling down Fort Street looking to grind. I had some Filipino food at the same place, which was not the greatest. The piroscki is delicious and $2!!!. The fried squid is a nice snack for walking back to the car. The strays abound in the area, but they do not bother. I remember this place at another spot across the mall, but the taste is still good. read more

Cuz this place is winnahs! the piroscki has been a fort street staple for who knows how long. Even though they arent the original owners the food taste the same! So for $2 bucks really its worth it. Awesome hole in the wall in Chinatown. Rada's, which is Russian, is connected to a filipino plate lunch place and you would never see it unless you knew it was there. I love trying unique places that you don't see very often and Rada's is one of them. Fried dough stuffed with meat? Uh, yes please. Ordered the lunch special of a piroscki, fried squid and a salad. Soooo much food and it was only $5 and some change. The piroscki was completely stuffed with the good stuff; mine chicken, mushroom and cheese. The fried squid was really fantastic. I'm not really a fan of calamari, but was by far one of the best I have ever had. Not chewy, nor fishy tasting. The salad was a nice touch to tone down the fried goodness. read more

I've been eating Rada's Pirosckis for as long as I rememeber. It is a childhood favorite of mine and I'm glad it's still around. But alas it doesn't taste like how I remembered and it's too bad because made right it is SO GOOD. It is located in a Filipino restaurant I forgot the name but you can't miss the big banner with Rada's Piroscki in red letters. There is a window you order from and next to the window the menu and prices are posted. I personally don't like the beef and I always get the chicken,cheese, and mushroom piroscki. I also like to get their Fried Squid. I know that to a lot of people they are turned off by the smell of squid but I love this stuff. I don't know what this was, but it was not a pierogi. Or pieroski. It was more like a heavy, greasy donut stuffed with hamburger-helper. I ordered two, ate half of one, fed the other half to the birds, and threw the second one out. It's been an hour, and my mouth is still coated with stale grease. Absolutely disgusting. Too bad. I'm from the Great Lakes region and the thought of a real pierogi, stuffed with potatoes and topped with sour cream and chives, makes my mouth water. read more

I had the beef n mushroom in lunch combo a. I wish it was a like hotter. The squid could have been more crispy...but the flavor is good. The piroscki could have been hotter but tasted good. Salad a little brown for my liking but I liked their dressing. May try them during the lunch rush to see of there is a difference in the crispy or hotness. read more

My dad would park his Datsun 510 on a small fort street mall side streets outside a Korean bar, he would send me it with 5 dollars enough for 2 piroshkis and a couple of canned sodas. I've read all the reviews and I guess no one remembers the originator, the REAL Rada, who made those little 'meat footballs' back in the early 80's. She was a salty character who had big arms, a soiled apron, and a little bandana wrapped around the top of her head with thinning light-colored hair poking out. She had a thick Russian accent and was friendly enough but brusk -- doesn't anyone remember her? (When asked why she charged 2-cents for a packet of catsup when it was free at McDonald's, she retorted, "Well, he's a millionnaire." She served the same trio of fillings in her piroscki's and they were totally addicting because of the unique seasoning. What the Filipino ladies do now is a weak version of the originals that Rada made and sold in her little Fort St. mall shop. It's too bad they fiddled with the original recipe. Rada once appeared on a local cooking show (International Kitchen (maybe?), hosted by an Italian guy (deceased), and she supposedly shared her recipe. I tried it, but she must have held back her 'secrets'. I understand Rada sold it to her helpers (a Filipino man and his wife), and it seemed for several years they were true to the recipe. Whenever I returned to Honolulu and would try Rada's, it became clear that the recipe has been modified and is no longer anywhere as good as the original. Too bad. read more

Rada's Piroscki is so good! It's strange to me that there would be a Russian food place in Fort Street Mall, but despite the oddity, it's so good. The piroshkies here are huge, heavenly, fried balls of dough stuffed with meaty goodness. They're so cheap and SO HUGE. I honestly don't even know what they're actually called, I just know that I like the #1 (a beefy filling) and my husband likes the #2 (a beefy, tomato, cabbage filling). Rada's is our favorite plane food because it's just one solid ball of food for an easy, portable meal. I recommend calling ahead to make sure they're not sold out because they WILL sell out by the afternoon. read more

My mom used to call them sputniks, these deep fried, football shaped, biscuit wrapped balls of meat. I think the shop was started by Russians and I'm pretty sure that's the origin of their specialty. These are not supposed to be delicate potato pierogies people. The beef and mushroom is my favorite. It's like a spicy cheeseburger fried in the most delicious, crispy dough. And don't forget the fried squid. It will outclass the calamari appetizer at any restaurant at all at a bargain price. read more

Loved their PIroscki. Ate since I was a kid. I do prefer the original crust from way back in the 1980's. Now that I have returned home, crust texture is not the same, but who cares. I still love it! Back in the late 70s and early 80s, when I was a young'un and an adolescent, Rada served up some OMIGOD HOT and `ONO piroskis. There were several different flavors--I remember the chicken mushroom and beef curry varieties being my favorite. The savory filling was surrounded by breading which was crunchy on the outside and sold in little white paper packages placed into brown paper bags--careful! It's hot! Rada (she was either from Poland or Russia--I forget the exact conversation...well, it has been decades) served 'em up hot and fresh, made when you order. That's why they were so good. There was ample filling such that once in a while, after sufficient time had passed for the piroskis to cool, filling might drip out onto your clothes or hand if you weren't careful (or sloppy like I was). Yeah, it was a sorta greasy joint. But these are deep fried--what microorganism could survive such an onslaught? Alas...Rada eventually retired and sold the business. Several years ago, when I finally made my way back to Fort Street Mall and Rada's original location, I was shocked to see that she wasn't there! I wasn't too shocked to see the staff were Filipino, amongst the recent immigrant entrepreneurs in Hawai`i. (They serve up great Japanese, Korean, and of course Filipino food in other eateries.) Somehow they brought the price back to less than $2/per piroski--namely via serving size shrinkage (as with so many items these days--"it's the economy, stupid"). But I was shocked that the filling had decreased and the dough had increased...and the variety of filling options also decreased. Oh well. Now that my metabolism is older, I'm not supposed to eat that stuff anyway. But once in a great, great while (maybe once every 2 years), I'll grab a piroski for old time's sake, but lamenting the demise of the original savory and delectable treat. read more

I remember Rada in the 1970's, at a then bustling Fort Street Mall. A kind, robust woman making this savory fried buns of meats and cheeses. They were tender, kind of greasy but oh so tasty. On a recent visit to the islands, I had a crave for Piroscki. It must have been a bad day for Piroscki. My beef and cheese was very dark, greasy and the dough was tough. The filling was just okay and I chose not to finish it. My chicken and cheese was better. The filling was spot on but the dough was the same tough dough I experienced with the beef, just not cooked so long. I was happy in some ways and sad in others that a childhood memory should have been left alone. read more

I was living and working in Hono in the 1980's. Living on a budget I used to go to Patty's Kitchen and Rada's. In the beginning, Rada started with one of those stainless steel push carts and eventually got the shop on Fort Street. I have always been under the impression that Rada was Ukranian and not Russian or Polish. Anyway, when she got the shop on Fort Street, she worked it with her two daughters. All these years later I still think about and long for Rada's piroscki's. They were some of the best eating in Hono along with Patty's and the manapua stand at Holiday Mart, It sounds like Rada has passed on and her daughters have sold the shop to some Filipino ladies. Too bad. You should have known it back in the day. I could never make up my mind whether to have a Chicken Cheese or Beef Mushroom... so I always got one of each and over ate! Was never a fan of Zippy's but you could try Kapahulu Chop Suey for plenty food (one, two, three finger poi) or Horatio's for some uptown eats. :D I will always miss Rada's piroscki's! read more
