These guys are awesome. Came in one night looking for a random set of 4 nuts that would fit my rhino rack. They dug through a few boxes, found a matching set of 4, and didn't even charge me for it! My other option was forage through a random hardware store, drill out a bolt pattern that fit my unique sized rack, and cross my fingers. Pretty simple, they did what they said they'd do faster than they quoted. I needed a trailer hitch for my old 91 Vanagon Westy. They had all the specs and a hitch in stock(!). I needed it in 3 days; they squeezed it in on a Saturday and finished it two hours faster that expected. The hitch and wiring harness were pretty basic but still, done in an hour? Cool! Price was steep for the simplicity of the whole operation, but I was in a rush and nobody within a reasonable range could get to it for over a week, even a custom shop. Best part was them fawning over my van though. ;) read more

The world's worst business for communicating (Bellevue Store) plus horrible parking. I placed an order 6 weeks ago with a deposit. I have called serval times to check on the order status. Not once has anyone ever picked up the phone or returned a message. I have driven 2 hours twice to check on the order. The last time I was there they said to email, they are too busy to answer calls. They have not returned my email request. That's great news, they are as good at customer response to email as they are on the phone I wish I had made my order someplace other than these guys. These guys have excellent customer service. For the handful of times I've went in, almost every one who has helped me goes the whole nine yards and are very friendly. They take the time to educate you on different equipment, the pros and cons, and what's really worth it. When I bought a ski rack, they didn't BS anything, understood my budget, and even offered me a cheaper alternative that was going to perform almost as good as the high end ski racks. That's the kind of service that makes me come back as a consumer. When the ski season was over, I tried to dismantle my ski rack. It wouldn't come off and I grew frustrated with it. I called and they told me to come down. Chris, the manager I think, came out to my car and took the rack off (albeit one of the pieces had to be broken off). Because of the defect, they offered me full credit back - and I bought another ski rack to replace it. EXCELLENT customer service and way of business. They recognize a frustrated customer and ensure their "rack" experience is good. I recommend stopping by if you're in the market. Two words: Customer service. Learn them. I did not want to do any work today. I'm on vacation. I had an incident with my bike rack last night and I came to this place today looking for a replacement and professional help. Bad mistake. I had to search for my own part because they didn't know their own inventory. I had to guess at what among their decrepit parts might still work. Nobody offered me a new part or bothered to explain to me the advantages of replacing the whole system vs. patching it up. It took 15 minutes to even get help. Eventually, after three failed tries on my own, someone finally helped me find a better part. He switched the locks out and charged me $50. All the while, his manager was yelling at him about spending time on me. The manager also made the decision that I could install everything myself, and that nobody even had to look at my car: "Just have him switch the parts out because it's not worth the time it takes to help him," was one comment he made in amidst other comments that made me feel like they had a lot better things to be doing than helping me. Not a great attitude to hear from the manager, for either one of us. Unfortunately the employee will go on thinking this is great service, and the manager will most likely run the business into the ground. An hour later, after struggling with the assembly, I've got a rack that I *think* will work. Nobody will come out to verify that I installed it correctly, because I'm not worth the time. Nobody even asked me if I wanted the parts installed. I'll tell you one thing, if this fails on the highway and kills someone I'm definitely going to join Rack and Road to the lawsuit for negligence. That will definitely be a lot more expensive than the $20 in labor you would have spent to help me. Don't ever tell a customer they're not worth your time, unless you are looking for a real long vacation. read more

I spent a frustrating 3 hours trying to find a cargo box compatible with my roof rack! After going through 5 different ones, the REI dude told me none of the boxes would fit my roof rack, but that not all was lost. I needed a customized box, and Rack N Road was the only place that could hook me up. I almost gave it up, because I figured it would cost my a fortune. Erick was awesome! He was very very helpful. I wanted the black Yakima 16 SkyBox, but the only one available was sold. SHIT, here we go again! Well, Erick hooked me up. He sold me the 18 for the price of the 16, and he was able to attach my cargo box without modifying it. That also kept my warranty intact, and saved me another 20 bucks. He made the experience smooth and got me back on the road. Definitely a place to check out if you're having a problem with your roof rack. read more

I called to get pricing for a hitch for my Hyundai Santa Fe. I didn't need the wiring harness as I already had that so all I was looking for was having the hitch itself installed. It's work I could certainly do myself but I wanted to see if they would offer me a competitive price that would make it worth my while. They didn't. The price I was quoted (by Tim) was $362 and change, tax not included. If I used a popular online hitch e-tailer, I can get the hitch shipped to my door for about $200. The installation for this particular hitch requires removing no parts from the car and no fabrication. There are unobstructed mounting holes under the car and the only preparation required is to spray them with some lube and run a bolt through them to clear the threads. Once that's done, you hold the hitch in place, tighten four bolts and you're done. Even someone with limited mechanical ability should be able to handle this in under an hour. Assuming that they pay the same retail price for the hitch that I do (which they CERTAINLY don't), that's still charging me $162 to tighten a handful of bolts. That's just plain crazy. I understand that there are people who cringe at the thought of working on their own vehicles and feel like they have no choice but to go to a "professional" for things like this, but they end up paying through the nose for this "convenience" and have no idea just how much they're being taken for. Some people might not mind being soaked for a 100% profit, but I'm not one of them. I didn't even get around to asking for pricing for a bike rack after that, but I'm pretty sure I'll be shopping elsewhere for that as well if these prices are any indication. read more

We are now sporting a sweet Thule Force XL cargo box and Aeroblade Edge rails from R&R. We searched online and narrowed down our options, found the best prices (Amazon for course) and then went to R&R to give the local bricks and mortar concern our business. We mentioned we had found the box online for less and R&R gave us a discount. We still paid more, but having the local service is why I don't buy on-line anything I care about quality product and support. They offered to install the blades and box, but I (of course) wanted the challenge and did it myself. One and a half hours later, was wishing I had let them do it. I bought a hitch for my van and had it installed in June. The installer made some mistakes and when all was said and done the hitch did not work for my vehicle. The manager Chris is a great guy who owned up to everything and went out of his way to make sure I was happy. I was treated with respect. They owned the mistakes and made it right. Something I honesty did not expect to happen. When I asked for it, i was given a full refund with a positive attitude. My refund came from the corporate office when the regional manager asked for my file to be reviewed. It's very nice to know that there are still small businesses out there that are doing the right thing by their customers. They asked for the opportunity to earn my trust and return business Initially I said no. But after thinking about how they handled everything. I will go here again. Because I was treated with the highest level of respect and they told me the truth of what was happening through out our entire transaction. I have had questions about my roof rack and when I call the store they are always knowledgeable and helpful, even though I didn't buy my racks there. So when I needed to upgrade the feet for my Thule rack system (which turned out to be pretty expensive), I figured I would try to buy from them because they had a 'low-price guarantee'. I called Rack N Road, gave them the price and the website that I found online and asked if they would honor their guarantee. The employee looked up the price and then told me that the other online store was selling the parts at a price that was 'lower than what was allowed by Thule.' He went on to explain that authorized Thule retailers have a limit on how much they can mark down their merchandise so one retailer is not undercutting the others, which makes sense. But this is what really got me, the employee then told me he was going to call Thule and report the other retailer! The other retailer was actually a small independent bike store across the country. I just felt like their 'low-price guarantee' was a way to 'tattle' on the competition. I realize that a lot of small businesses are struggling against big retailers, but this was just lame. And Rack N Road didn't honor the lowest price guarantee. So I bought my parts from someone else. read more

Great service and help. I bought a bike rack for a car with some tricky fit issues, and they helped me pick out what I needed and then installed in on my car for a reasonable price. I then bought *another* car with another tricky fit issue and they helped sell me an adapter kit that would make the rack work there....when it still wouldn't fit perfectly, I stopped by the store and they helped me trouble shoot it until it worked, and they gave me a couple of fasteners that helped tie the whole thing together. Saved me a lot of headaches and hassle having to figure this out on my own. Good store; good name-brand products; good service. Carter Subaru referred me to Rack N Road to deal with bike rack options for my Subaru Outback. From my phone call to the store and on-site, Nick and the staff at Rack N Road, helped us get our bike rack needs met for our vehicle. We walked in the door at 1:00 and drove off at 2:30 with a complete three bike roof rack system installed. They answered all our questions, were patient, and also reviewed basic operating instructions (even though they are in the manual). Who would think that an outdoor enthusiasts car such as an Xterra would be incompatible with almost every car top cargo box. Eric stayed after closing to help customize the box to fit my car even after I offered to come back the next day. That level of customer service is rare and exhibits an actual enthusiasm for the job. Also, Rack n Road acts as the warranty center for both Yakima and Thule so if there are any problems with your rack system they are who you call to fix it. I went in on a busy Saturday with a broken rack that needed to be replaced but was rusted to the trailer hitch. The replacement rack was in the car, not purchased from them. Finally I called Rack N Road and the guy on the phone knew exactly what I needed and told me to come in. I had cross bars and a ski snowboard rack installed on the roof of my car. Overall, Rack N Road did a great job. Customer Service: Excellent. I worked with multiple personnel at the store and they were all very knowledgeable and helpful. Chris, the store manager, is especially friendly and focused on customer service. I had a pretty special job and he explained to me what was going on and had contingency plans all ready to go so that I would not suffer from plans falling through. I felt like everybody that I worked with took care of me. Install Work: Very good. My crossbars and rack were installed to my specs and the work looks tidy and solid. I was given a brief walk-through on how all the parts work. I did notice a very short, light scratch on a door that wasn't there before. I have a brand new car and have been watching it like a hawk as I've had work done. You do sign a waiver, and I guess this can happen. Pricing/Cost: Good. Not the least expensive option, but they are great consultants and the install work is very good as I stated. Overall, I'm pleased with the Rack N Road. If you want to talk to the pros and if you are not the do-it-yourself type, they're a great option for a rack job. read more

These guys have been amazing ever since I first went here in 2012 for my first Thule box and rail system. Now I'm doing a car tent (goes on the Thule rack) and I had a ton of question for them. Again, they took the time to go outside, look things over, answer all my questions with solid answers (not just marketing hype) and I left knowing that I got what I needed. Stellar service. I had two different sets of Yakima SKS lock cores and for some reason, the master key from my other set couldn't pull the cores from the lock housing of another (even when the locks were unlocked, per instructions) like it was supposed to. I went there on a whim and they tried one of their blank master keys and it worked! Turns out my key was a little off to be usable in different locks. To my surprise, they let me keep the key for my own personal use! I know those keys are cheap and are probably like pens to them, but to even offer like that helped tremendously. That's great customer service, and from the looks of it from the reviews, I'm not alone in feeling that way. I wouldn't hesitate to give them my business in the future. read more

I'd been shopping for a rack on Craigslist off and on for MONTHS when I got fed up and went in to Rack n Road. I explained I was looking for something used and still good quality. I arrived at 10am. I drove off at 10.15am with the rack installed. Its exactly the same rack I was trying to get on Craigslist (drive to North Bend? Oh, sorry, its gone? Oh, not sure if it will fit that model) and cost only $20 more. I wish I had gone here months ago and will certainly be returning when I need components. Pros: Knowledgeable and friendly staff that are willing to take the time to get all your questions answered and help you out. Cons: It may take a few minutes to get someone to help you I recently went to rent a trailer from Uhaul but found that my indicator lights were not working and something was up with the wiring. The guys at Rack N Road had installed my trailer hitch a little over a year ago and so I took my vehicle to them to diagnose the problem. It was in the middle of a weekday, so they were able to get my car in the back ASAP and determined it was a converter box that was the culprit. The bad news was that it would take a week to get a new replacement, my box was out of warranty and I was moving out of state in 2-days! This was something I should have had checked sooner and I'm not one to huff and puff, whine, cry or yell to get my way. I was definitely in a bind, though. The very next minute they're on the phone with the distribution facility to get me the part delivered next day and at zero cost to me. I felt a bit guilty having them go that extra mile, but they just said, "this part shouldn't have crapped out in the time it has, so you shouldn't have to pay for a replacement. We'll work out the RMA with the manufacturer." Fuckin' solid! The next day I brought my car in, had things fixed in an hour and only at the cost of the minimal labor it took to change out the unit. I was still on schedule for my move and confident that everything was going to work just fine. read more

Realized last week that I lost part of my hitch-mount bike rack, part of the bit that tightens it in the hitch receiver so it doesn't' flop around. Kept meaning to email Yakima and ask if they'd sell me just that part, and was kind of dreading the work. Passed Rack n Road while going to Seattle Fabrics, a few blocks up on Aurora. Doubled back, stopped in, showed them what I lost... and they had a spare one, so they just gave it to me. I was in and out in two minutes, and holy crap, that was amazing. Hitch install under par, especially for what they charge. They did not rust-proof paint the holes on my car's frame that needed to be enlarged to install the hitch. I inherited a Yakima LoadWarrior that I was going to use for a move that fits a Forester older than mine by 4 years, didn't think it would not fit. Boy was I wrong. Fortunately Yakima makes an adapter for my car and it's free of charge, but I needed it for a big move after the weekend and to ship it overnight would cost $40. REI didn't stock the part, but suggested Rack N Road, and sure enough they had set I could have. I bought some SKS locks and the guy at the counter helped how to install them and I was good to go in no time! These guys have everything and I will for sure return if I ever need some rack related stuff! read more
