I have had 2 wonderful experiences with Rack Attack - one 5 years ago when I bought my Thule kayak rack for my old Subaru and again, yesterday! Brian/Bryan was terrific in helping me retrofit my old kayak rack with new feet for my new Subaru, using much of my former rack components. I had purchased a new Drawtite hitch for my SUV and called Rack Attack to see if they would install it. It literally comes fully assembled and has three connection points on the frame, no drilling. He quoted my $550 for the install. I did it myself in thirty minutes. Does this mean they charge $1100 per hour for labor? They lost the install job and the Yakima hitch bike rack purchase. I bought the latter on Amazon. So much for patronizing the local businesses. read more

I stopped in here on a lark as I was passing. I had planned on going elsewhere for the bike rack I was looking for, but this was on my way to another errand. The fellow who helped me out was very friendly and helpful; I couldn't remember the exact model I wanted though I remembered a few of the numbers and letters and he looked it up easily in no time at all. On the downside, they were completely out of the rack I was looking for. Disappointed, I thought I was leaving empty handed until he offered me the next model up at the same price, an offer I was happy to take him up on. Of course, no transaction is completely without some sort of computer problems, but he found a work-around for even that and sold me the product using they on-line ordering system. Meh. They have a great selection and they know their stuff, but the customer service is really hit-or-miss. Doesn't seem to be anyone in charge either. I had a 12:00 appointment for an install that they said would take an hour. After an hour and a half they said they still had half an hour left to go. I had made another appointment later on in the afternoon based on what they told me and I had to scramble to change it. They really didn't seem to care either. I was literally told "well we can't rush it". THEN DON'T TELL ME IT'S GOING TO TAKE AN HOUR WHEN CLEARLY IT ISN'T. Either that or they just f*cked around after I got here, even though they knew I was waiting. I have other rack needs, but doubt I will be back again. read more

Ok, listen you little prick who was working this afternoon - your bad attitude and rude presence cost your boss hundreds of dollars (and i hope this review costs you your job). This was the SECOND trip I had made all the way to Framingham this week, and prick kid- you totally ruined it. On Sunday, during my FIRST trip to Rack Attack I had the most wonderful guy help me out. I was in the market for a new roof rack, hitch, and hitch-mounted bike rack for my new car. The guy on Sunday was incredibly helpful - I already knew my options and he helped me troubleshoot some issues I could run into with my sunroof. We chatted about function, installations, and he gave me his thoughts my best options given my sunroof issue. He even went out in the pouring rain to take a closer look at my car. Seriously, this guy deserves a raise. I would have bought the roof rack, hitch, and bike rack from this guy on Sunday but wanted to come back with an old Yakima rack to trade in. I also wanted to do some price checking, because they price match. I was so impressed with Sunday's guy, that even if the price was higher, I'd rather support a good business with good people. So... I went back today to seal the deal and drop a big chunk of change at Rack Attack. That is when I met you, Prick Kid. First, you tell me you're out of stock of the bike rack I want in the snottiest way I have ever heard - it's almost like i burdened you with wanting to buy something. Then you tell me that you won't price match a hitch (no where on the website is this mentioned at all.. so for all i know you're full of crap). You then look at me like an idiot and say "you will not find a lower price anywhere". I say "yes i can". I think you rolled your eyes at this point... and then I pulled out of my pocket printouts of two places where i found a lower price. The final straw was when I think you told me it was going to be 120 bucks to install a $150 hitch - to be fair, i had sort of stopped listening to you... so i'm not sure if that was the amount... either way, I told you that there was no way i would pay that much money for tightening 4 bolts. That is when you told me that installing a hitch is more than 4 bolts.... hey genius. it's four bolts - that's why it says it takes 15 minutes. AND i know that specifically for my car that nothing needs to be dropped or moved to do the install... so don't even play that game. I can easily install it myself, i just didn't want to do it in the rain. When I asked you what i was paying for I had to cut you off when you started with "well we need to lift the car... " I had had enough of your crap. I will take my business elsewhere. And you little prick, you really ruined it. I hope the Sunday guy gets your shift when you get fired. read more

He also informed me that, they might not honor my claim. I proceeded to inform him that I would just like to return, my purchase. Just bought a whole Thule rooftop system with a cargo box and I loved the whole experience. I came in the store and right away a salesperson was ready to help me. Marc was our salesperson and he walked me through all the steps and options of what I could put on the top of my SUV. He was honest about any flaws of the products and was able to get me all setup with my system in a matter of ten minutes. I was installing the bars myself in the parking lot since I didn't want to pay for installation. He saw me making a mistake and without me asking came outside to help out and finished up the installation for free since he didn't want anything to put on incorrectly. He and every employee there was extremely friendly and I will most certainly go back for other products. I was even offered a piece of pizza by one of the managers as I was waiting inside while my cargo box was being installed. Thats the kinda service I just could never find at REI. Just needed a simple 2-bike carrier to stick into a 1.25" hitch. The only reason we came out to their store was the $89.00 ProRack they had listed online. We got to the store, explained what we were looking for and for what type of car. The salesman showed us a ~$350 Thule model which is very similar, where you simply hang the bikes on by their frames. I asked if there were any other alternatives, and he showed us a $400 Thule model where the bikes sit on their wheels and have a spring-loaded rod go over the wheels to secure them. That seemed to be it, so I asked if they had some options online that were not in the store, and he said no. Then I said that I had seen a ProRack online, and he said they were of low quality and disrecommended customers from buying them. This felt like a really hard sell, so we went down the road to REI and ended up buying a $200 Thule model. If I'm going to overpay for what amounts to a Z-shaped hunk of metal with some hinges in it, I'd rather do it at a store where the sales staff at least feels comfortable showing customers all the available choices. read more

Ok so here goes..... Strike one: I call Rack Attack for the correct fit kit for my car. I am hastily informed it is not available and I should order it on line. I ordered it online and guess where it shipped from? Yup, Framingham. You clearly did have what I needed. Strike two: I visit the store on a Sunday afternoon. I know exactly what I need, and I would like it installed. First off, the salesperson was rude and was clearly annoyed I was taking time away from his Iced Coffee. I was informed I would need additional parts for this and that and that they are too busy to help me right now. The time was 12:06 PM. They opened at noon. The attitude of this guy was beyond annoying and I will stop right there. Strike three: I am informed it is a Sunday and they do not do installations on a Sunday anyway......excuse me but isn't this the whole point of this store, to be able to have installations done (at a time convenient for the customer?) WTF? I want to remind you that they do not take reservations at Rack Attack (?) I called LL Bean. Hey guess what? They had everything I needed and hey, they install racks on Sunday, and hey, its a FREE installation (not $40 which is what Rack Attack will charge you for the hassle). LL Bean has excellent customer service I took my $650 elsewhere. If I'm dropping that kind of money, I sure want to be treated with some respect. read more

I've purchased two racks from Rack Attack - the first one was a Thule 3 bike rack, based on their advice. I've had that rack for 2 years now, and it's been everything they said it would be. The second is a Yakima Quickback 3 for my wife, which I purchased today. What I like about Rack Attack is that the guys know the products and can advise you on the best options for your needs - good luck finding people as knowledgeable at other stores. We can't say enough about Rack Attack Boston and the service there. They are nice to deal with, know their business, give you clear options and pricing (which by the way is often the same as anywhere online so no need to shop around), have all items on display, and do a bang up job of installation if needed. They were competitive on price and did the installation quickly and securely. It's a great place to check out the racks in person. Not so great though for actually buying things there because the prices are frankly ridiculous. The same hitch they sell for $170 (+ shipping fees) costs $110 on amazon.com (ships free). The hitch involves screwing on 4 bolts to the frame of my car- youtube videos show how to do it, and the estimated install time for a newbie is 40 minutes. Rackattack guy says it'll take more than 1 hour and at their hourly rate, it'll cost ~$130. What's funny is that the rack I was looking to buy can be bought from any of a number of online vendors (popular gear stores) for $120 less. The guy offered to give me a 10% discount if I purchase right then, but even with that, I'd be paying $70 more. If this is not a total rip-off, I don't know what is. And I don't know why anyone with a little bit of patience to shop around (online or other physical stores) would want to shop at Rackattack. read more

I just got back from another trip to Rack Attack for to buy a new rack for a new car. As a triathlete I need a reliable rack that fits my bike without wrecking it and the guys at this place have helped out each time. This time I wanted a fork mount rack to ride on top of my Honda Pilot so I went in and got a Thule rack to install myself at home. After getting home and installing the rack I discovered that it was too long and my rear hatch would not open no matter how I adjusted the cross beams. I figured that since I had opened the box that I owned it. After a return trip with a quick explanation Dave set me up with a trailer hitch rack that could hold my bike. Whenever my next car comes I am sure I will go back. read more

These guys are great. I had been thinking about buying a Yakima roof rack to carry bikes and skis for some time based on a friend's recommendation and I finally pulled the trigger...on a used one on eBay. The rack arrived and I thought that all I needed to do was buy the correct clips for my car at Rack Attack and install it, so I took all the pieces out to Framingham. Turns out, the rack that I bought on eBay was totally messed up: the Q towers were missing a crucial part that cannot be replaced. Basically, it looked like someone had stolen the rack off of another person's car! The guys at Rack Attack said that they had never seen anything like that before. Needless to say, I was pretty pissed off about having spent more than $100 on complete junk. After delivering the bad news, the sales rep I worked with priced out new components for me and gave me a great deal on everything. This stuff isn't cheap, but being helped by someone who knows what they're talking about was really great. I know there are a lot of people out there who buy stuff on the internet because they'll get a better deal (like my eBay attempt), but sometimes you need the expertise and service level of a brick and mortar store. The store was relatively busy and there were a couple of other installations going on simultaneously to mine, but all of the other customers seemed like they were being taken care of in a timely fashion. I only worked with one guy, so I can't speak to everyone on the staff, but he was friendly, knew his stuff and had the rack on my car in about 20 minutes. I would recommend them to anyone I know who is looking for a car roof rack. read more

We had custom rack put on our Car a few years ago and they did a great job. My daughter lost the keys to the rack and the tools too ... we stopped by today to replace them and Bryan hooked us up with everything we needed - no charge to boot. TERRIBLE!! Do the math! I went there looking for a rack for my BMW. They recommended a hitch ($300) and labor ($400) and an APEX4 (approx 400). However, they did not have the hitch at the time so if I wanted it the same week, I would have to pay $300 extra for delivery. It sounded fishy, so I went to Autozone and ordered the hitch (same brand) for $175 with next day delivery (free of charge). An excellent mechanic in Cochituate road installed it for $200. When I called Rack Attack to get the rack from them, they said they had sold out! Really??? Do the math: $1000 vs. $375 for the hitch. Now I just need to find a rack. read more

Best costumer service! Would definitely do business again. We were traveling in the Boston area when our only key to our Thule carrier broke off in the lock. We were unable to access the carrier. We searched for Thule dealers with in the area. EMS (Eastern Mountain Sports) were little of no help. I just want to say these guys are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful! I purchased a Yakima track system for my older minivan, and the install went smoothly. The rack was secure, was very adjustable, and looked great. After several ski trips, I felt that the setup needed to be tweaked from the default setup (I had trouble getting at the back of the cargo box). Fortunately, Dave and crew were able to come up with a solution that looked good, was secure, and they made sure I was happy! I wanted a hitch for a bike rack added to my Mercedes E350 Sport. Multiple vendors said that no hitch was made to fit my car, or did not return my call. Rack Attack installed the hitch flawlessly. I have spent a lot of money on racks for two different cars at this store, but after my last experience I will never go back. To be fair, the experience I am about to recount, was not my only one. The first couple where more positive. I think if you go in a on slow and speak to the write kid behind the counter, you can do OK by these guys. Some of the people who work there do know their stuff and have better attitudes than others. However, it is a really popular place and it usually busy. When it is busy forget about getting any kind of decent service. The experience that has prompted me to write this negative review follows. I usually don't write reviews, but after getting so jerked around by these guys and since they really didn't seem to care, I really felt compelled to do so. I needed an outlet. Maybe if enough people post similar experiences (like at least one other has) these guys where get less haughty. I ordered a rack accessory and was told that I could have it mounted. When I called to make sure it was in stock, they had lost it, and they could not install it if they did have it. Then a few minutes later they called me back (a different person this time) and said they had it in stock and that they would make sure it fit on my existing rack system (bought there). I verified their business hours and told them I planned to come in on Sunday. On that day, there where busy. I was told they don't do installs on Sundays, despite the fact that several customers where obviously waiting while their cars where being worked on and you could see the installs happening in the service bay. It took a couple hours of my Sunday to make the trip, only be told they would be happy to sell me the accessory, but not help me make sure it fit on to the (high end) rack they had already sold me. This completely contradicted what they had told me they could do on the phone. I told the service person this, and he just shrugged and said the person who told me that on the phone was "new". I asked to speak to him, but he had the day off. When I left, I called the store, wishing to speak to manager (I should have done that in the store when I was there, but I was too annoyed). I got their answering machine and left a message for the manager to please call me back.I never got a return call. I will never shop here again. I will tell my friends not to either. There are just too many better choices close by. For example REI is a a few miles away. They offer a lifetime satisfaction guarantee and the sales people are low pressure and usually really polite and helpful. Definitely, not too busy to treat their customers like customers. read more

I live in Maryland now and occationally get stopped at intersections with people wondering where I got the rack from. I had a great experience purchasing a hitch and bike rack here recently. I had done some online research about installing a bike rack on my new SUV and I went to Rack Attack not necessarily ready to buy. Patrick was behind the cash register when I arrived and immediately began assisting me. He proved quickly how knowledgeable he was and earned huge brownie points by not trying to sell me the most expensive things in the store. He asked a lot about what I needed the rack for and how much I planned on using it. Since I'm only a casual cyclist, he actually recommended a less expensive rack than I was looking at online. He also gave me the pros and cons of the different brands in the store, which helped me to pick a midrange Thule for my needs. His knowledge and the competitive prices (only slightly more than Amazon's lowest prices and Amazon didn't have the customer service) led me to buy that day. For a hitch, 2 bike Thule rack, and total installation, it was about $500. A good chunk of change, but significantly cheaper than the dealership. Installation of the hitch and rack occurred two days later (they order each hitch individually from manufacturer). It took about an hour and looks fantastic! Patrick also installed the hitch and rack himself. He was great to work with and he took the time to explain everything thoroughly. I will definitely be back if I need a future rack! read more

This is not a customer-oriented business - do not patronize them. I struggled my way through dense rush hour traffic from Waltham to get to their doorstep on the recommendation of a guy at the Waltham AutoZone. I arrived at 6:01PM and as I passed though their wide-open doors, they said "we're closed." In spite of the fact that I explained to the salesman that they could make a sale in 5 minutes since I knew exactly what I needed, he said "Sorry, we've had a long day are really grouchy." His compatriot happily closed out the cash register rather than make one last sale. If I were their boss I would fire them in second - they have no concept of customer service, not to mention any kind of bottom line mentality. Went in on a Sunday, just one guy working there, but he was extremely helpful. Helped us figure out exactly what we needed and explained everything thoroughly. Install price seemed high, so, we bought the rack and installed it in the parking lot. Got stuck on a few things, but the guy in the store was happy to answer our questions and he even threw in a hand when we got stuck in a few places. Prices seem competitive, although, racks in general seem to be pretty overpriced in my opinion. I mean come on, there really isn't much too these things, but I guess supply in demand... I'd probably give them 4.5 stars as I think rack pricing is too high, but in the end I was really happy with everything, if I were to get another, I would definitely go back to Rack Attack. read more
