Just today I walked into the Route 9 shop with a broken/jammed BOA dial on my shoe. I was looking for a repair kit, which I wasn't really expecting them to carry but I was taking a shot in the dark because ordering one from BOA would have taken about 10 days and I wanted to use the shoe this weekend, if it was possible. Landry's didn't carry the specific repair kit that I needed, which was fine because it's pretty obscure, so I resigned myself to not being able to use my shoe for a while. But the guy I was dealing with in the shop ended up fixing my shoe right in front of me himself using the world's smallest hex wrench in about 120 seconds. I asked him what I owed him and he said, "nothing." He even gave me the wrench! I was so stoked that my dial problem was solved that I forgot the guy's name. But he was a big dude, with long hair, glasses and he was wearing flip-flops lol. ‍ Anyway, thanks to him, my weekend is looking up!

Upon entering and walking through the store multiple sales associates made eye contact with me & did not engage or ask if I needed assistance. After asking for help, positioning myself in a place where I was easily accessible to any sales person, I watched as each salesperson helped another patron around me. It took persistently initiating a dialogue to gain some semblance of help that was quickly discontinued. As a young person of color, I will not be returning to this REI location, but will bring my business elsewhere. Really a same, I've enjoyed REI in the past but this experience has been discouraging.

We went because of low inventory in the area in an effort to find a first road bike for my partner. In the end, they persuaded us to purchase a bike which we learned was clearly the wrong fit (later independently confirmed by two different certified bike fitters within two minutes of seeing her on it), and which Papa Wheelies unsuccessfully and unsafely modified to try to fit her after we reported that she was experiencing extreme numbness in her hands and had difficulty reaching the brakes. (The bike couldn't be made to fit--the reach was just too long. Papa Wheelies used a stem that's incompatible with her bike and is a serious safety hazard to the rider, another shop later pointed out--as did the stem's own instruction manual.) Here's how it went: On May 27th, 2023, we showed up to check out the 2022 Liv Avail Advanced 1 that Mike (a manager) confirmed he had in stock before we drove an hour. It's a jade green color, and Mike said over the phone, "Yes, I'm looking at it right now--it's a beautiful color." When we arrived, Mike only had the 2021 model in a purple color, saying that the system had the bike entered wrong. (He also neglected to explicitly disclose that this was an older bike.) Mike watched my partner ride around the parking lot and insisted the size was right. We asked Harold (a manager) if a smaller size was necessary, and he said "absolutely not." On June 1st, 2023 we went back to the shop after one 15-mile ride because it was clear the fit was off. My partner's hands were quickly going completely numb and she had difficulty reaching the brakes. Mike swapped the stem for a shorter one, insisting that would do the trick, even though the reach still seemed much too long. Worse, he swapped the Giant stem for Dimension stem that, we later learned from another shop, specifically states in the instruction manual (see photo): "Warning: Dimension stems are not intended for use with carbon handlebars or carbon steerer tubes." (This bike has a carbon steerer tube). The other shop explained that this can damage the bike and compromise the rider's ability to steer the bike. Right after this, my partner was diagnosed with a complex meniscus tear and couldn't ride for a few weeks. In August, she was able to try the modified bike on an indoor trainer and still struggled with the same issue (extreme hand pain/numbness). We saw two certified fitters from different area shops. They said there was no point to a fitting and they'd "be mortified if they sold that bike to us." They said a bike shop had to be very uninformed, or willfully careless, to put that stem on a bike with a carbon steerer tube. When we called Papa Wheelies to explain and ask for a refund, they refused. Mike eventually made a half-hearted offer that we could possibly exchange it for store credit and said he'd research other bikes they have that may work. When I arrived to pick up the original Giant stem (since we can't in good conscience transfer the bike with a stem that's a safety hazard), it was clear that Mike's offer wasn't sincere. They told us there was nothing they could do. (Harold told us they could take it back for a $1600 restocking fee.) He was preoccupied with the fact that 3.5 months had elapsed since the purchase (my partner had a knee injury, and it took time to consult other bike shops to fully understand the extent of Papa Wheelies' errors), and he didn't seem to consider that: 1) we returned, citing serious fit issues within 5 days of purchase; 2) they made an egregious safety error in using an incompatible part; and 3) the bike is in brand-new condition. The upshot: We have a brand-new, $3200 bike that can't be ridden by my partner or returned, despite the fact that they undoubtedly knew they were selling a bike that didn't fit properly. There are a number of good bike shops in the area. Go anywhere else besides Papa Wheelies.

I am a short course triathlete who rides a Cannondale F300 Mountain Bike in the off season for cross-training. I race triathlon and time trials on a Felt B12 and also ride a Cannondale 626 road bike. These two bikes I've maintained meticulously, not so much my mountain bike which has see rain, snow, mud etc. I got a flat this week and needed it repaired. I found Cisco Cycle and took a chance calling to see what the backup was for service. I was happy to hear that I could stop by and the flat would be fixed "while I wait:.....I thought "wow"! I was greeted as I entered the store with a smile. The bike mechanic ( I later learned was Francisco) stopped what he was doing and went straight to work on my bike. He showed me the piece of metal that punctured my tire. I asked if I need a new tire, he said I could get by, but then showed me dry rot on the side wall. He offered me a like-new used tire to replace mine. This blew me away that someone would offer me a way to save some money, yet get good quality. He replaced the tube and tire and then noticed I had no break pads left to speak of. Not much at all, so I had him replace those too. I was then somewhat embarrassed when he noticed that my front derailleur and front shift were completely frozen. I'd be riding this bike like a single speed for a while and was ignoring this problem, But now I figured was a good time to actually fix this, so he opened up the shift, cleaned and oiled it, and did the same to the front derailleur. Then he pulled out the old cable which was completely rusted when he showed it to me. Finally, after checking the chain it was determined that it was about to snap, so I got replaced as well as the cassette. All of these replaced parts were original on the bike which is about 10 years old, with some really hard riding and no maintenance, none. So now, I've got a bike that rides like brand new ! I took it for a ride at lunch today and it was sweet!. Francisco provided great service at at really fair price ! read more

About a week ago, my wife and I traveled to Framingham to pick up a lovely Motobecane that I purchased on eBay. The bicycle was fantastic; however, going into the shop (which is also an amazing museum) and meeting Cisco (the extremely gracious and knowledgeable manager of N+1) was the real highlight of our trip. We showed up planning a quick in and out deal. I ran in to pick up the bike, and was immediately overwhelmed with the amazing array of very high quality and rare bicycles Cisco has collected for his museum/bicycle shop. Bianchi, Zeus, even a Hetchins (!) were displayed from the '50s-70s golden era of bicycles. Beyond that there are many extremely rare components artistically displayed. The crown jewel is one of Major Taylor's race bikes in the center of the shop. Immediately I realized this was no normal bicycle shop and I knew I had to explore this treasure trove or I'd regret it. I mentioned that my wife was waiting in the car and Cisco thoughtfully asked if she liked coffee: of course! So he made us some very nice coffee which we drank while he expertly answered our (my) extensive questions about his museum. Cisco is a real gem; he is very friendly, knowledgeable, fun to talk to, full of stories (he raced the Tour, has ridden in Asia, Europe, fixed Porsches, etc) and even knew were to send us nearby for good beer (Exhibit 'A' across the street). Anyway, I really didn't mean to go so in depth about N+1, however, I was really blown away. It was one of the most exciting bicycle shop experiences (and I go to every one I can) I have ever had. Cisco and N+1 will definitely see us again and I cannot wait to see the evolution of the fantastic museum in the shop! I like to think about the future. These reviews will be here, maybe, to remind ourselves of times... of the "now" here, that is long gone again. How grateful we will be for all the good times we may have taken for granted, or appreciated even more from the aging that comes with time, with experience. How is this relevant to a bike shop in Framingham? Simply put, Cisco (the owner) is a racing champion, a musuem curator, a mindfully present kind and compassionate soul, who happens to also be a polymath. Authentic! Diligent and hard-working. A true pleasure to work with... AND! My prediction is: if we don't support him with his bigger dreams (the reality of local politics, yes the local voting kind, or other powerful engaged champions) he will simply leave one day to a new community that values him correctly and supports him better. This is no sweat for Cisco, because he *creates* this commuinity, attracts it with his positive energy. I know, we do try: continuous improvement. But, will we ever regret not trying harder, by simply saying YES to him? We don't get too many opportunities in life to connect with brilliant, well-rounded artists like Cisco, so please do act NOW to support him... go visit his bike shop to see for yourself! I'm very happy to support a business in downtown Framingham, and this one is a gem! It was my birthday, and I had decided to buy myself a bike. Last summer, after my old faithful mountain bike was stolen, I found a second-hand Bianchi road bike. It is still a dream, but with a long commute to a job far, far away, I didn't have time to ride it as often as I wanted, and it has mostly sat on the trainer for winter and night pedaling. In these commute-less corona times, I finally had more time, but wanted something easier to ride around town and on trails. N+1 has been on my radar for quite a while, largely because of my small Bianchi obsession, but also because I have driven by so many times telling myself to stop in... It was time. I was incredibly lucky right now to get the one remaining hybrid in the store at a great price. It was in the box, but Francisco put it together within a couple of days, attached a super-duper lock, reminded me I have free service for year, snapped a lovely picture of me with my new Bianchi, and I rode it home. I have ridden this beauty every single day since, no regrets. My snap decision (maybe 2 minutes before I said YES) was based on trust, and N+1 was fantastic! I recently had an excellent experience at N+1 Cyclery. I'd had a BMX bike slowly rusting in my garage for years. I took it to Cisco to see if there was anything he could do to bring it back to life. When I brought my Mongoose Menace into the shop, Cisco was super-helpful, and had lots of great advice on how to restore my ride. He spent time with me to go through the different options, and he knew exactly where to source the hard to find parts like original stickers, bar ends, and saddle. He also found a company that could remove all the rust re-chrome the bike, inside and out. The result was amazing. The bike looks better than it did when I bought it in 1998. Not only did Cisco make the bike look like new, he also added some surprises and style of his own. Cisco was also great about communicating with me throughout the process. He confirmed the costs for the chroming, and he sent me pictures to show me the progress. Cisco has an incredible passion for bikes, and he is a true artist. I didn't enjoy riding my old bicycle because it had some mechanical problems and was also the wrong size. Deciding to buy a new one, I began shopping at some of the larger bike stores in the area, only to become frustrated at the poor customer service. I was then lucky to discover N+1 Cyclery, a smaller local bike shop in Framingham. After the inattentive service at the previous businesses, I was especially pleased with the friendly atmosphere I encountered there. Cisco, the manager, with a long history as a competitive cyclist, listened carefully to my requirements as a biker who rides on both paved and gravel roads. He took the necessary time to fit me to an excellent bike from a top manufacturer, that is within my price range and comes with one year of free maintenance. I was ready to hit the bike trails after he sold me a great bike rack, installing it free of charge. Thanks to N +1 Cyclery, I have more confidence and speed on the road as I ride a beautiful bike that is perfectly suited to me. read more

I only trust Cisco with my "vintage" bikes (a mid-70's Motobecane Mixte 10 speed touring bike named Gigi) as well as a more recent Giant (whom I call Bikey McBikeface) that is my "around town" bike. He really does what he can to find the proper parts for the older bikes, does a great job making sure they are safe and reliable. We had an incident in our family with one of my sons and a big-box store bike that was improperly assembled and resulted in a, thankfully, non-serious injury. We learned our lesson and now buy value, not price. I encourage people to take their big-box bikes to him for safety checks ever since... or better yet, see if he can find a better quality used one for them. Like all things in life, you get what you pay for and I pay for Cisco's knowledge, skills, and time - hard things to commoditize, but well worth it and really quite the value when I think about the peace of mind I have when I take my bikes out for a ride. read more

Have a 1996 MercedesMB4 mountain bike. Front hydraulic AMP custom caliper needed to be repaired. Took 6 yrs to actually find someone knowledgeable and skilled enough to even attempt the repair: Cisco. ( everyone else wanted to create a new mount for entirely new brake set -up) Find a distributor for parts after 22 yrs? No problem- he found one in Germany! Read a technical spec document on how to deconstruct/ reconstruct the caliper? No problem! Cisco did all this because he loves what he does, he enjoys challenging technical problems and because he was technically certified in Europe where he still maintains a network (and where he previously raced bikes) LOVE Working with people who love what they do and pride themselves on getting things done right. if you're a fan of classic racing bicycles, this shop & museum should be on your bucket list. I've been a professional mechanic for a dozen years and a serious fan of the sport for a couple decades before that, and saw bicycles, parts and tools that I'd only seen in photos - and I mean the best of the best. it's one thing to even see a complete 1948 Campagnolo Cambio Corsa derailleur set; it's another to find one with hubs that were factory engraved for Bianchi Bicycles. If you know racing, you've heard of Major Taylor (if you don't, you should look up his name). One of his bikes is hanging on the wall. I could spend a week there, and there would still be more to discover. The owner, Cisco, raced with one of top pro teams of the early 90's, and is as nice a guy as you'll ever meet, and he may well be the best mechanic I've ever met. read more

My left brake cover [ combined shifter/brake] was broken off after an organized ride requiring volunteers to turn handlebars perpendicular on the transport truck. Cisco managed to retrofit a brake handle cover even though the parts for my 23 year old Bianchi are no longer available. Cisco's skill set and ability to maintain older bikes as well as new is phenomenal. I asked Cisco to build me a custom titanium bike and he did so by finding a gently used Lynskey frame in Colorado. Cisco's love of cycling and skill in maintaining bikes of many centuries is unbeatable. N + 1's traveling bicycle museum demonstrates Cisco's love of bicycles. This business centers on customer service, loyalty, and satisfaction. I am a happy repeat customer. Unlike other bike shops, this one can help pair people with used bikes as well. read more

I recently bought a bike and accessories from N+1 Cyclery in Framingham MA. I'm a mom and the bike is for my teenage daughter, who recently got inerested in biking. It is a fantastic bike and I got excellent service. Cisco is very kind and knowledgable about bikes. He was super easy to work with and able to answer all questions I had. I don't know much about bikes so I really appreciated that Cisco was willing to help and make sure that we got the best bike for my young adult. Not only is Cisco an expert on bikes, he has integrity. Because there is a national bike shortage, he could have raised his prices. But he didn't. Yesterday, my husband & I stopped by N+1 Cyclery. We had no idea where to even start when buying a bike but from the minute we walked into the door it was a complete learning experience. Cisco, the owner, is so knowledgeable and it was a great feeling having someone drop what they were doing when we walked in to give us his undivided attention the entire time. He listened to us and what our needs/wants were and didn't just try to sell us something he had on the floor. My husband loved a bike he had there for himself, but I preferred a cruiser so Cisco searched online and found one in NY and ordered it for me. 1973, that's when my mom gave me this "Made in Paris" bicycle. It's been to Ireland and back, but hanging in my garage for 30 years b/c someone put in the wrong brake pads ages ago. Every time I went to a bike shop they only wanted to sell me a new bike. I hung it back up in the garage. Last week I said, "OK, get this fixed or get rid of it!" I chanced N+1 in Framingham. OMG! I got a lump in my throat when Francisco said, "That's a 1973 "Belle du Paris." He knew it! He knew my bike! It was thrilling! He knew the right brake pads, right derailleur, the right stainless steel brake handles. When I brought my "belle" home, it was like bringing my baby back from the hospital! I have inquired about specialized items twice now in the past month and Cisco has miraculously been able to pull through for me with fulfilled orders for both requests. The first item I wanted was a simple T-shirt that I believe was out of print and the second was a specific color and size of cycling shoes; both were located over in Europe. N+1 is fantastic. I had an ongoing issue with my bike and Cisco worked on it until we were both satisfied that it was perfect. Because the issue only occurred intermittently, this involved me repeatedly coming back for him to make adjustments. He helped me immediately whenever I showed up, stopping what he was doing, and even working on my bike while the store was closed and he was supposed to be taking time off. Cisco is a true professional and because N+1 is basically a one-man operation, you get personalized service from an expert. This makes working with N+1 a much different experience from going to the larger bike stores or chains where your bike is being worked on by random college kids with minimal training. 100% recommend! read more

This bike shop is fantastic. I have been dealing with the shop for many years, and it has been recently taken over by new management. At first I was sad to see the previous owner retire, as we had become "friends" over the years. The shop is completely different now in many ways, and stocks quality equipment, and the staff is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of bicycling, from the equipment, to methods and techniques of year-round cycling. Although I am not in any way monetarily connected to this shop, I do feel somewhat of a strong connection to it in other ways. I am the type of person who strives to patronize local businesses, and I feel very fortunate to live somewhat close to this shop. read more

We bought bikes here this spring for our two teenage boys. One of the bikes ended up in an unexplained collision while he was out biking. We brought it in for repair to the derailer and gear assembly along with the promised 3-month tune up (included with bike purchase). Within an hour Cisco took care of the bike and got it back on track including talking to my son about proper bike use and care. We have loved supporting this local business and the service has been much more personal than at other bike shops in the area. Of course, I did know of Cisco before he got into the bike business but he is really good at it and has an excellent customer service attitude, which we love. read more

Cisco was giving me an estimate on my old bike when I mentioned that I think I might want to buy a new one. He noted that my old bike's frame was too small for me (it was), and that he would suggest buying a bike that fit my frame. He offered me a high quality new bike and gave me a tour of the used ones. I bike to work, so I thought it would be a good idea to get something trustworthy. After some chatting I went home to think about it and decided to buy the new bike with a few accessories. I have checked out a few other bike shops in other towns around Framingham, but none compare to n+1. I recommend him to everyone who has any bike questions. read more

Excellent Service, Fast turn-around! We were in a pinch to get our bikes tuned up before Memorial Day weekend. I called several places and no one could get our bikes done within the week. We usually go to REI, but they were fully booked. Out of desperation I called a friend who cycles and she referred me to Cisco Cycles. They got our bikes done within a day! The job they did was SUPERB. They did not cut corners. The bike felt excellent - almost new. I do not know how they did it, or want to make a habit of last minute tune-ups, but this place is amazing. They are nice people, too. No snobbery or elitism. We are definitely coming back. read more

I was looking for basic products to update some bikes for my kids. Saw that Simple Living Bicycles is now under new ownership as Cisco Cycles and gave it a try. So glad I did! Cisco had everything I needed(replacement pedals, seats, handlebar tape) at very reasonable prices, but even did better than just having a good variety. Instead of me going home to labor over this the rest of the weekend, Cisco did all of the updates for me , without a wait and at a price not to be matched anywhere near here. I had trouble locating this bike at any bike shops in Massachusetts but BW had three of them in stock (M, L, and XL) so I was psyched to check the bike out in person. I bought the bike (well over $10K with tax) when I went to their Trapelo Road location to look the bike over and bought several biking-related items (Garmin bike computer, headlight, shoes, tool bag, bike fitting, seat, etc.). The bike purchasing experience was great. I worked with Scott, who was very friendly and patient and knew tons about the model I was purchasing as well as about e-bikes. I spent $100 for a fitting appointment and Jack handled that and ensured I got fitted to the new bike with the new shoes I had purchased. I had an issue with the bike I purchased being put on sale by Specialized for $750 less - I called BW to ask if they would refund me the difference (this was 2-3 weeks after I purchased the bike) and the person I spoke with was aghast that anyone would ask for a refund like this. Less than a week later Clint from Belmont Wheelworks left me vmail apologizing for the confusion about getting the $750 sale price difference refunded and stated that he would be issuing a credit to my credit card for the $750 plus tax. I was very happy to hear this! I was so thrilled that I returned to BW to purchase tire repair tools + sealant for the tires on my new Creo (and spent another $87). Clint was not available during my last visit so I was unable to thank him in person but hopefully he sees this and knows that I greatly appreciate him working with me on this issue. I also want to mention that there is a H-U-G-E selection of bikes at BW - the biggest I've seen since International Bike had a store in Allston in the nineties so if you are looking for a new bike, I would recommend you stopping at BW. I love the Specialized brand and to me they have the best and biggest selection of Specialized bikes I have ever seen. I went to Landry Bikes in Braintree before I purchased my Turbo Creo from BW and they worked very hard to sell me a Trek bike at a similar price point but my research and personal experience showed that the Specialized is a MUCH better bike. BW also has an excellent selection of shoes, seats, helmets, tubes, tires, repair kits, headlights, Garmin computers and tons of other gear for bikers of all descriptions. Some of the clothes I saw were very expensive ($200 for a pair of biking shorts???) but the selection is quite large and I would venture to guess that you can find anything you need for your biking workouts/excursions/commutes/whatever during one visit to BW. I will be taking my bike there as soon as I get ~150 miles on it for a free tune-up and I am looking forward to seeing how their service department is (I am sure they are top notch).

They said the estimated time for this would be around 5 days. After 10 days of them not contacting me, I called them. They said the write up was ready so I went to shop only for them to tell me it is not ready and to come back in a couple days. When I went back, the person who did the write up lost the paper and we had to go back AGAIN for a new paper. A 5 day simple write up turned into a 3 week back and fourth with this shop (and 3 weeks with no bike which is my main form of transportation). Story #2: I asked for 2 tubes for my bike and they gave me 2 different sized tubes BOTH OF WHICH WERE NOT THE CORRECT TUBE. Story #3: I asked for a tube for my bike and I gave them the model (which they sold to me). The person asked me what size it is which I forgot. So he replied "well I don't know that bike go figure that out yourself" (while he was at a functioning computer in which he could have looked it up for me). Story #4: I also had a kick stand repair after it fell off (my bike has a specialize built in kickstand) and it fell off again after 2 rides.

I booked a service for Monday June 1, the soonest they had available. It didn't occur to me to look at their days/hours, because I had been sent a booking link, and those typically only allow booking when the business is open and has availability. On June 1 I took the afternoon off, biked over from Roxbury, and the place was closed. E-mailed and texted. Received a reply confirming they were closed and blaming the booking company. No real apology, no offer of a discount or anything to make it right, not even an offer to get me in as soon as possible. This is not anything like how I was taught to provide customer service when the business royally screws up and wastes someone's time. EDIT: The owner has now offered me 20% off, though is maintaining that they are confused as to why "the booking company" allowed that booking. The booking link still shows openings every day of the week. Why are you using software that requires contact with a company to make changes rather than the industry standard that lets you make changes to your own availability in your portal any time you want?

We also looked at bike racks, and the gentleman helping me was very patient and helpful, showing me all the differences in sizes and features. When I finally made up my mind on which seat to get, he quickly installed it for me and I was able to write off on my new cushiony seat! We also purchased a patch repair kit to keep with my bike. As we were leaving, someone else came in the store that was a regular and commented on how great the service was. This might become my new go to bike shop!
