Poor customer experience provided by waiter and manager. I ordered coffee and my favorite omelette, asking for the meal prepared a certain way. When the waiter, Ariel, delivered my food, he did it practically running by my table. It was immediately apparent the food was not prepared the way I asked -- but there was no waiter to be found in the second it took me to look down at my plate. The waiter did not check on me, returning a few minutes after I finished my meal, save for the item that wasn't prepared right. He then denied it was incorrect. I politely explained why it was wrong, and he said, "well it takes the kitchen a lot of time to do it that way." The waiter did not offer to send the item back to be fixed, instead asking if I was done. At the register, the manager recognized me and said hello. He did not ask how my meal was. I told him what had happened, and that I did not finish my meal. By the time any wait staff were near me, I had been finished eating for a few minutes. He did apologize, but said it was my fault for not searching for waitstaff to send my food back. The manager did not even offer me a replacement or dessert, or even to knock the coffee off my bill. He did not seem concerned about my negative experience. I have noticed inconsistency with waitstaff service in the past, but this was the worst. This diner was always a handy standby, but the customer service is inconsistent. Even the price for the same meal I always order varies. I highly recommend the other, smaller diner a block eastbound on the avenue, for their friendliness, value, and service. read more

Everyone here is so friendly and caring. The service is always good and the prices are average diner fares. I love this place and come here all the time for a good breakfast or late night picking. The food here is delicious. I have to admit I usually come here for breakfast compared to dinner but always have good food. The service is quick and good. Lesson #1: The owner is always right. Now, I am not in the habit of writing bad reviews. Instead, I vote with my feet. However, this morning's extravaganza of poor judgement was worth noting. Yonkers has many great diners (Broadway, Mt. Olympus), all in the Classic Greek 'breakfast all day' style. Today, we thought we'd try the Raceway Diner having driven past the 'Voted Best ...' Sign many times. I ordered my usual test breakfast, eggs Benedict. My wife a spinach and feta omelet. The waitress was friendly and efficient. The food came hot and in a reasonable amount of time. It was pretty decent. Then the trouble started. Between my two poached eggs, there was only one yolk. Odd, but OK. My wife's food was hot and I was hungry, so we tucked in. The eggs were cooked correctly, the sauce was reasonable for a diner with at least some lemon. Texture was ok. Then I found a dark curly hair in my home fries. End of meal. The waitress came back and asked how everything was. I told her. She left for a long time and when she returned she said I should have sent the plate back. Since I had eaten most of the food, there was nothing she could do. One yolk, ok. Odd, but not worth waiting for a new plate while the rest got cold. A hair in my food discovered after eating a portion. Not ok. I went to pay the check and suggested to the cashier that this was not the right way to treat a first-time customer. The owner walked over and started to argue with me. He said it was not possible that I had been served two eggs and only one yolk. I told him I had no reason to say it if it was not true. He further refused to admit that there was hair in my home fries. He did not apologize or offer to correct the bill. He preferred to accuse me of lying in front of the rest of his customers. After a brief argument, he looked away in pain and said dismissively "take something off the bill". Still no apology. This time, I refused. The $10 was no longer the issue. I wanted to be shown a modicum of respect. Finally, and still without giving an inch, he put out his hand to shake as if this would make things better. It was patronizing and wildly unprofessional. Again, I refused and left. Not OK So, if you choose to patronize this iffy establishment, just know before hand, the owner is always right. read more

I didn't find the food to be good at this diner. I ordered pancakes, eggs and sausages. The pancakes did not taste good, the sausages were undercooked. My husbands food was not good either. His home fries did not have any onions or peppers and his eggs were dry . This place use to serve good food. I will not go back to this diner. read more

I visited the Raceway Diner with a large party (11) for breakfast. The service was a little slow but once we did order the food came quick. It was not all brought at once, which was reasonable being that so many people were eating. We all had breakfast plates, eggs, bacon, pancakes, waffles etc. They were all good. I used to enjoy breakfasts here. However, a recent visit spoiled it. A friend and I were visiting for breakfast. In the middle of the meal, something large from the ceiling fell on the table. It was a large piece of cardboard - recent water damage occurred and it was holding things up. I understand that things happen. However, I was completely surprised with the lack of a genuine apology. The manager came over and replaced the cardboard - while standing with his shoes on the seat. He said sorry. But no one volunteered to pick up the tab. So just left this place. Have been a regular breakfast stop for me for years. Ordered chicken kabobs with rice, came out like a breast and parts were pink very undercooked. I told the waitress she says let me tell the manager, as she walks away tells the other waitress I complained and got stink eye. The manager comes over and starts cutting chicken up and putting it in my wife's face saying no looks good.i say no it's not its pink and he starts moving it on plate I loose it and say I'm not here for you to cut it up. He waits as im leaving says no I checked it was a vein I looked in kitchen. That's not customer service and he shrugs shoulders saying I took off bill. Know I never asked to take off bill I did get heated when he started cutting up in front of other customers. Never step inside that place again read more

My sister and I went for a quick bite, but didn't know it would turn into a profoundly delectable experience. It started with typical indecisiveness- neither of us could decide what to order. We both knew we wanted a sandwich of some sort- either a panini or a traditional American sandwich. Having to choose between the two started to become very difficult- because both of us wanted a panini, but also a traditional American sandwich. Then it dawned on us that we could order both (one each) and then split each order. So my sister ordered a chicken cutlet panini, and I ordered a BLT (bacon lettuce tomato) sandwich. The food came quick. Once it arrived- I gave her half of my BLT (bacon lettuce tomato) sandwich and she gave me half of her panini. We started with the BLT (bacon lettuce tomato) sandwich- delicious. Then we ate the panini- delicious also. Afterward we both felt so satisfied- because if we had only the BLT (bacon lettuce tomato) sandwich we wouldn't have been full enough, and if we had only the panini we would have been too full. Which is why it was so perfect to have half of the BLT (bacon lettuce tomato) sandwich, and half of the panini. On the side we received sweet potato fries- which tasted like the combination of french fries, and sweet potatoes. The ketchup was Heinz. It was in a squirt bottle, which I really appreciated because the glass bottles often give you issues. It still came out a little watery at first squirt, which is to be expected, but ended up working out well. All in all, great dining experience. read more

As soon as I came in I was welcomed as if I was a member of their family. My child was also greeted and treated like a princess. The service was amazing and the food was really good. Went here for breakfast a few weeks back when visiting a friend. This Diner was right across from a casino(only slots) and a race track. Very classic trolley shaped look. They do their all their own baking which I admire and a large choice of breads and pastries. What I like best is the 4 page menu that had a wide range of home made meals, basic breakfast, grill specials, and sandwiches. Some of the tables had their own jukebox which gave the old school feel. I don't know if it's just the Raceway Diner or most of the local diners in my area but whenever I order a tuna sandwich it's loaded with 'fillers' and a minimal amount of tuna. I've experienced this at other local diners as well so It's possible that the tuna salad in not made in-house as opposed to getting it from a food distributor. This used to be one of my favorite diners. Not so much anymore. Haven't been here in a while & this last experience reminded me why that is. The food and service used to be WAY better. My boyfriend & I decided to stop in for a very late breakfast on a Friday morning around 11:30ish. The place was busy but not overflowing with customers by any means. I don't know if they've reduced staff or what but the experience just seemed a bit... off. We weren't greeted quickly upon entering. We had to stand there & wait until a random waitress decided to acknowledge & seat us. Then we had to wait a bit before she re-appeared to take our drink orders, one hot tea & one coffee. Those came out pretty quickly but no one bought us any waters. I finally saw a busboy in our section & I had to flag him down to ask for some waters. After our food orders were placed, it seemed to take some time for the food to arrive. Let me back up a sec to when we placed the orders. I almost felt a bit rushed or like the waitress really didn't give a shit. When my boyfriend ordered his poached eggs he had to ask her what comes with the order instead of her saying "it comes with home fries. Is that okay"? He wanted fries instead. We also wanted an extra side but she was so in a rush or maybe more so disinterested, that we almost forgot to order. I really didn't think much of this until I heard her taking an order from the table behind us that she asked them specifically what they wanted & also if that was "everything" before wrapping up the order. And then the same with a customer seated across the way from us. I just looked at my boyfriend shaking my head! Another odd thing I found is that they were doing some maintenance in our section so there were tables moved out & at one point I had to squeeze past a large ladder blocking the way (in order to get to the ladies room). I felt like the maintenance could've been done at some other less busy time. I'm pretty certain this place is open 24 hours. This was basically right near the lunchtime rush. Now about the ladies room... that could use some maintenance... Ladies room: There are 2 small stalls. If you are a plus-sized lady... good luck! The bathrooms need some cleaning! There are water marks(?) or some kinda drippy stains on the inside stall doors & elsewhere. I glanced down to the side in one stall & the heat vent (I think it was) had caked on dirt!! No joke! If there's caked on dirt like that in the bathroom, should customers be worried about what's going on in the kitchen? Just a thought... There's a long vanity with only one sink (NOT an auto on/off) & one of those old style hand blowers which takes a year & a day to dry your hands, if ever!! I wanted to mention this because even though I'm not a germaphobe, I prefer paper towels to turn off faucets & grab door handles when leaving public restrooms cause ya never know who's doing what or not before ya... The ladies room is in need of some updating to say the least... Small, crampy,& kinda dirty kinda makes one wonder... Well, at least the waitress got the order correct! I'll give her that. The food was ok. Nothing to write home about! Our "extra "was old fashioned french toast that neither of us could really eat because it tasted weird! Pretty disappointing. The whole experience seemed a bit weird! The atmosphere is not welcoming or friendly like it used to be years back. This place just seems off now. Another reviewer stated this: Service quite lackluster. Shleppy workers... That sums it up alright! I would probably dine here in the future due to convenience but unfortunately, that would be the only reason. Oh, and the bill was pretty high for mediocre food! The last time I ate there I had to call the health department because we ordered dinner, and they gave us greek bread in a basket, and when I broke open the greek bread there was a giant dead cockroach as big as a water-bug with giant antennas staring at me. I got so sick I went out side of the diner and vomited. The Westchester County health department fined them for having cockroaches and mouse droppings in the kitchen. I never stepped foot in that place again, and every-time I drive by there I get sick to my stomach. The place is disgusting. read more

The service was outstanding. Our waitress was super friendly and on top of things. I wish I could give this diner more than 3 stars. The truth of the matter is...my food was lousy. I ordered the open faced turkey sandwich and I could have made it at home for much better and cheaper. For the love of God, my gravy was YELLOW! Maybe I need to stick to breakfast instead. I have been coming to this diner for more than 20 years. It is a great place for a family meal or a quiet meal for two. They make the best onion rings I have ever eaten. The fries are good, too. Classic fries. Not that new nonsense. There is a parking lot and it is conveniently located across from the Yonkers Raceway at Empire City. The service is good, too. read more

What happened to this place? I went here for an early morning breakfast and the food was just awful. I entered a virtually empty restaurant, and waited to be seated for about 3 minutes while waitresses and kitchen staff passed me by. Eventually the host emerged from the kitchen. I Ordered the Raceway Royal with Challah French toast. The French toasted tasted like they just dusted it with eggs. Bacon was so dry it was like beef jerky with a fishy undertone - like it was on its way out. And the sausages tasted soapy for some reason. Nice old diner by the racetrack. Very easy to get to from 87/Central Ave. Had a very friendly waitress and a good breakfast. The food was good! The bottle of Heinz ketchup was sour. So they must refill there own whole sale ketchup and not even rinse those bottles. There must have been a lot of bacteria in them, concision I had a bad stomach virus. How I know it came from there. Well it was my breakfast , home fries, scramble eggs, bacon.
